Breathtaking waterfall located near the Columbia river gorge. A must stop when visiting near Portland. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day you need a timed entrance ticket which is $2 per car. We didn't know this and had to make the reservation to come back later in the afternoon. Definitely worth it and climbing up the bridge is a short with a moderate incline walk.
This was my second time visiting the falls and it's always such a stunning spot. Be mindful that it can get really crowded and the later you wait in the day the harder it is to find parking. While it is free to see the falls, it's not free to park. Parking right in front of them is $20 for the full day. There are trails that can take you to the top if you're in the mood for a fun hike. When we went they had several porta potties for restrooms. It's best to go early in the morning to avoid crowds. You can see the falls from different levels. I find the first view with the bridge in it is one of the prettiest, but it's also really cool to cross the bridge. The path is clear and easy to navigate. It's worth checking this beautiful spot out.
The falls were beautiful but the chaos of parking and getting around it's wild. You can literally spend over an hour back and forth for parking for 15 mins of views and gift shop. You see it online and you think magical, but instead you have over frustrated tourists being pushy and all in the photos so be prepared with patience and understanding that it's a zoo out there
I've visited Multnomah Falls several times over the years, and it's always been so gorgeous. It's so popular that at peak season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) permits are needed to park at the parking lot so that its not overrun with queuing cars into the highway. However, this system still has drawbacks since a timed use permit reservation does not guarantee parking as visitors can stay as long as they would like (even the entire day) and take up a parking spot. Anyway, once you park, there's an underground tunnel walkway that takes you under the highway to the side with the falls. There are a lot of fish in the river so be sure to take your time and watch out for them. The information center has good information about the geology, flora and fauna of the area. It also gives information about trail closures. There's also a small gift shop and restaurant nearby, as well as a small coffee stand outside. The washrooms are under renovation, so there's a huge group of port-a-potties out in front. I did the hike all the way up to the falls, although I think the viewpoints from the bottom are actually the best. The trail is a bit washed out in some areas, so practice some caution walking up.
Fabulous waterfalls!! You should definitely drive the historic route 30 up and down so you can see all the other water falls and sights along the way. It's amazing!!
Wow, absolutely beautiful two-tier drop waterfall. When you arrive parking can be a bit tricky but there is a lot right off the highway. As soon as you pass an open spot I would park to avoid circling around the parking lot. There are car break-ins that have been reported in the parking lot, just a reminder to hide any valuables or cords. Once parked you'll walk over to the falls underneath the highway. It's about a 3-5 min walk. From there you'll arrive at the falls and admire a 620 foot drop of the double tiered waterfall. You can hear the roar of the falls and feel the mist from the water. It is a beautiful sight as you are also surrounded by nature. There's a hiking path to the upper falls which we ended up completely. Probably can skip going to the upper falls as the main viewpoint is right when you walk in. If you are in the Portland area, you'll definitely want to stop here.
Hint: Put Multnomah Falls parking in Google Maps for free parking. There's underpass for a short walk to the fall. The parking lot adjacent to the lodge charges $20. Multnomah falls each the second largest all year round waterfall in the country. It's so tall, has a stunning view of the water, the mist and the surrounding greenery. There's a deck at the base and a trail to the famous Multnomah Falls bridge (approximately 5 minutes walk up hill). The trail continues after the bridge to the top of the fall. The bridge has another gorgeous closer view of the fall. At the base, there's a lodge with a restaurant and gift shop. A cafe station was also available for hot drinks and small bites. The walk through the underpass is really nice, as you get to see the clear crystal water streaming away from the fall. We took some sips of the fresh water, it was so tasty, better than the bottled waters :p. This is where the historic Columbia River highway drive ends. It gets crowded by noon. So I'd suggest starting your excursion from this fall and drive thru the rest. Bring warm gears as it gets windy and cold closer to the fall (based on April weather) I love waterfalls and this was a fantastic family experience for us.
Multnomah Falls is one of the tallest year-round waterfalls. There are trails to walk up and be closer to the water falls. Benson bridge makes it so poetic from far. The trail to the bridge is not terrible but it's an incline for sure. Amazing view from the lower section and from the bridge. The cafe at the entrance is great. Got a hot chocolate to warm myself up. Gift shop is cool to check it out. There's a paid parking ($20?) and a free parking. Free parking is across the highway, further down walk less than 10mins. There's a tunnel walkway so you don't need to walk through traffic.
Easy to get to and GORGEOUS! They have accessible pathways so no one misses out. Dont park right across the street, it's $20 whereas you can still park close to the falls if you park in the lot just over the railroad.
If you're rolling out of Portland like I was half convinced you're headed toward ghosts in Baker City and the other half getting talked into a round of golf you're gonna run straight into one of Oregon's crown jewels: Multnomah Falls. Now let me tell you... this ain't one of those "pull over if you've got time" kind of spots. This is a pull over whether you planned it or not situation. Towering at about 620 feet, it's the tallest waterfall in Oregon, and it drops in two big dramatic stages like it's putting on a show for anybody smart enough to stop the car. Been a destination since the early 1900s, back when folks wore suits to go look at water falling off a cliff--which, honestly, feels about right. And yeah, times have changed you'll need a reservation now depending on the season, so don't just go flying in there like you own the place. This isn't 1975. But once you've got that squared away? Smooth sailing. Right there at the base you've got the historic Multnomah Falls Lodge built in 1925, all stone and timber like it was carved straight outta the mountain. You can grab a bite, sit down, and stare out at something that looks like God just showing off. Service? Friendly. Cleanliness? Spotless. Value? Well, considering the view is basically priceless, I'd say you're doing alright. You walk up a bit and hit the bridge yeah, that bridge you've seen in pictures and suddenly you're in the middle of it. Mist in the air, roar of the falls, people trying to take photos without dropping their phones into eternity. It's the kind of place that makes you pause whether you meant to or not. Perfect way to kick off a road trip. Sets the tone. Says, "Hey, whatever weird haunted hotel or golf game you've got planned... you're doing it in style."
Highly recommend checking out the falls if in the Portland area! Be sure to have at least an hour if you want to hike to the top. It's pretty steep and we only had time to make it about half way up. Lots of good photo ops.
Sometimes you just have to reset life. It's a nice drive to get here but and even better view when you get out and take in all the beauty. First thing: wear comfortable shoes. And I'm not talking basketball sneakers or flip flops or raised heel shoes. I'm talking nice hiking shoes or shoes with spikes. I personally used my work steel toes because of the thick grove soles. I saw some people with walking poles. Second: wear appropriate clothing. Bring a light jacket with hoodie. I watched a couple of older ladies wear a dress. And some young teens wearing skirts. I thought the EMO phase was done with. Third: bring something to drink. There is a cafe at the bottom of the trail but nothing after that. Fourth: stay on the trail. I didn't see anyone deviate but there are patches of mud and slippery wood steps and slick bridge sections. There are portions along the trials that don't have guard rails or safety lines. Fifth: don't be an idiot. Running past people or yelling out loud between your friends and family. Help people capture memories by offering to take pictures (with their camera not yours). Lastly: Take in all the scenery. Appreciate the beauty of nature and your fellow human. There were dogs on the trail also. Overall five stars. Enjoy a stress free life, even if it's for a couple of hours. M
Multnomah Falls is located in Portland. If your every in the area this is a must see . It's not really open to the public. You have to reserve to get in. But after 6pm it's open to the public. I guess they don't want to over crowded the place. Anyways this place is so nice and relaxing. I would definitely come back when I go to Portland again.

What a beautiful place to get married! Multnomah Falls next to Multnomah Falls Lodge offers a gorgeous setting for wedding ceremonies, right next to the waterfall. There is a designated area for wedding ceremonies with an incredible view of the falls. I was absolutely amazed! Multnomah Falls is a place I usually visit locally, and I always enjoy spending time here but I never knew you could actually have a wedding ceremony right at Multnomah Falls! I was recently invited to perform live violin music for a wedding ceremony here, and it was absolutely magical.l'm attaching a few pictures from this beautiful day.From my understanding, if you're interested in getting married here, you'll need to check the Multnomah Falls Lodge website for the current wedding requirements, availability, and details. A Very popular waterfall! Expect large crowds especially in the summer. We visited late July, early August. There a small parking right across the waterfall and Multnomah Falls lodge. They charge $20 per vehicle, we had to drive around and wait until a vacant slot, but it was totally worth it. There's also a small convenient store and a coffee shop with limited menu options. read more
I come here every time I visit Portland. This time. I was able to do a 5-mile loop hike from Wahkeena falls. That's where you can find free parking, although the spots are limited. There were so many waterfalls along the way. It's nice views from the top of the fall. The parking at Multnomah could be a nightmare during business hours. That's why I visited this place either early morning or later in the afternoon. I visited the store and got a few items right before closing. It's a typical souvenir shop. read more

Multnomah Falls is Oregon's tallest waterfall in the Columbia River Gorge. This waterfall is amazing, especially in the winter. This waterfall is located about 30 miles East of Portland. The location and the paved pathway to the falls makes this an ideal location to visit year-round. The winter offers heavy flows of water whereas summertime provides drier hiking paths past paved route and more crowds. This location also provides a historic lodge with a restaurant to grab some food or a coffee for the cooler months. No overnight lodging at this location. Beyond the paved path, you can continue to hike up. The total distance to the top of the falls and back is 2.4 miles and around 600 feet of elevation. Make sure you have proper hiking shoes for this part of the trail. Given how busy this fall has become to be- between May 23rd and September 1st- the falls require timed use permits for parking. Around this time, you should check to see if this requirement still exists. There is a reservation fee. There are two areas to park- you can find out more on the website. In the summertime, I would suggest coming super early or very late in the day as this is a very popular destination. Note this spot does stay full as it is a good connector to other hikes. read more
This is my Second time that I've tried to come here. The First time it was raining when I made the drive out so I didn't get to explore much this time the lot was so full! Get here early! It gets so busy. The parking attendant said it was $20 for parking but it was so busy even on a Thursday mid day. read more

Absolutely stunning and 100% worth the stop. Multnomah Falls is one of those places that looks unreal in person--even if you've seen a million photos. The waterfall is massive, loud, and beautiful, and the views from the bridge are incredible. We lucked out and went on a day with no crowds, and parking was easy with no stress at all, which made the experience even better. The trail is well maintained and easy to walk, and even just going up to the main viewing area feels special. This has been a bucket list trip for me, and I'm so glad we finally did it. Amazing views, peaceful vibes, and a perfect Oregon experience. Definitely a must-see. read more

The popular waterfall that many have said to come and check out. So we went up here to see the scenery and climb the stairs up to the fun bridge! Overall we had a fun time doing this and exploring the nature side of Oregon. It is kind of cool to be able to drive away from the city and then you are in complete nature. Awesome and amazing experience! read more
Absolutely gorgeous and easy stop! Not far off the highway and with ample free parking. We didn't do the hiking loop. The falls are visible from below with a well-designed viewing area. The gift shop is very well stocked and full of fun knickknacks. There's also a cute free museum, very small but interesting. The staff there are knowledgeable and helpful. Overall an excellent stop. read more
Came in to town for a concert and because my flight landed super early I had to make a trip out to Multnomah. I took a shuttle in so didn't have to worry about parking. It was busy but mostly at the base of the waterfall where everyone is taking photos. Once you start climbing it's less and less people. The fall is gorgeous as is all the scenery around the area. Definitely a great way to kill a few hours. read more
Per our tour guide, Shannon, the Multnomah Falls is one of the most iconic landmarks in Columbia River Gorge. We joined a tour (yeah, I'm that nerd and tourist) so we can see and understand the history behind this amazing place. I think our guide said there were over a 70+ waterfalls in this area alone (various sizes, so some are small)! The weather, during Labor Day weekend, was mid-80s and sunny with a slight breeze, ideal for hiking and exploring the area. I cannot add anything new -- but this waterfall is breathtaking and is ranked 3rd (after Alaska and Yosemite) -- of being most beautiful non-stop flowing and most visited site per year. I also suggest visiting the gift shop...or like me get a soft-serve. It tastes so good after a hike! :) read more

I knew that our trip to Portland was going to include many "Firsts" for both Ben and me but some are just more substantial than others, different for each person of course. Seeing the Multnomah Falls was what I would consider my first waterfall. By that I mean, not just a small stream of water coming down like you can see while driving through Tennessee, etc. and one that you can get up close and see/feel/touch. This was something I wanted out of this trip as Ben isn't into these types of things like I am plus I knew it was the largest in Oregon and is in top of the charts for the US, not to mention it appeared in the 1st Twilight movie. We do love to visit filming locations, as we planned to also go to Astoria to see the Goonies house (no yelp page for that as it is a private residential home). The falls are 620 ft so it is a sight to see and very cool with it having two drops. We walked up the trail far enough to get to the bridge that crosses in front of the 2nd drop and though we would have been fine to go all the way to the top decided not to trek to the top based on time and how we had so much we wanted to do during our trip. Maybe we will return again during another visit when we are trying to cram so much into a short amount of time. We were there during a pretty windy day so we did get a little damp from the falls blowing on us so much but no big deal. Nature can be so beautiful. It isn't too far outside of Portland and the drive is scenic with lots of places to stop on both sides to venture out and take more pictures. read more
Absolutely stunning and beautiful views!! I knew that I needed to see this attraction in person when I saw that my brother went here years ago. I used Wildwood Tours to come here on their 2:30 PM (half a day waterfalls tour). The waterfall is on the Columbia River Gorge side of OR and along the Columbia River Highway. The upper falls is 542 feet and the lower falls is 69 feet with a gradual 9 foot drop in elevation. It is the second tallest waterfall after Yosemite. It can get very crowded and a lot of people tend to block the bridge taking millions of pictures. It is better to take a picture at the ground level. Just a hint because it isn't as crowded. The hike up to the bridge is kinda steep, but is wheelchair accessible as the path is concrete smooth. I loved my time here! I'd suggest using a tour company to avoid dealing with the hassle of parking. I'd also suggest wearing a windbreaker since you can get a little wet while trying to walk on the bridge, if you get that opportunity to cross it. read more

Beautiful place to visit. I didn't go all the way up to the top but I went to the middle bridge and it is breathtaking. It doesn't take too long to get up there. Lots of places to take pictures with the falls and all the beautiful greenery. There's a restaurant right by the falls, gift shop and a stand for snacks. Parking is $20 closer to the falls and free parking underneath the bridge. read more

This is a must-see when visiting the Portland area. It gets really busy but in 2025 they instituted a permit system to control traffic and number of people. I usually am for free access but in this case, the permit system works. There are not so many people at the falls at once. Parking is busy but doable. The falls themselves are wonderful. I've been visiting them since the 1970s. They never get old. A true wonder for the Northwest. The gift shop is great too. You can buy the permit online. In 2025 it was only $2 per car. We wanted to show the kid the falls because she had never seen such falls and such beauty. She is getting to the age where it is not "cool" to like anything, but I think she liked the falls. Put it on your agenda and if your time is constrained yes sure to buy your permit a day or two in advance. read more
Breathtakingly beautiful waterfalls! The short hike to the bridge is about a quarter mile, and it's roughly a mile to reach the top of the falls. Totally worth the effort for the stunning views. Make sure to reserve your timed entry pass in advance--we were lucky to have ours, as they were sold out when we arrived and many visitors were turned away. Plan ahead to make the most of your visit! read more

Finally checked this one off of my bucket list! MULTNOMAH FALLS was everything I imagined and more! We visited on June 21, 2025, and the weather called for 100% rain and 51degF. But, that didn't stop us! We wore our rain jackets and ball caps, and made the quick trek from the lodge to the base of the falls, and then another 5 minutes up to get to the bridge. The rain made for a glorious roar of the falls! We arrived at 8am and parked directly in front of the lodge for $20. There is more parking on the other side of the train tracks, which I believe is for free. Arriving early allowed us to dine-in without waiting at the historic Multnomah Falls Lodge (order the grilled cheese & tomato bisque!). It also wasn't as busy when taking photos at the base of the mountain. But, by the time we made it to the bridge, it was pretty hectic. You can hike for another ~1mile, further up from the bridge. We opted not to since it was raining. But spent time in the information center, where I stamped my passport, and the gift shop where we purchased a t-shirt since they're celebrating 100 years in 2025! read more

Best part of my trip to Oregon by a landslide. The hike to the top of the falls was a lot of uphill, but worth it if you're healthy. The view from the bottom is more stunning, but cool to go to the top. $2 to enter and free parking. Not bad at all. Bring a rain jacket! read more

We've been here for the third time and if you're a nature lover, you will truly enjoy Multnomah Falls. The waterfall is easy to get to, parking is packed so I recommend to come early. The hike up to the bridge is not bad at all. Lots of good photo ops too! There is also a coffee and ice cream shop plus a cute gift shop. We have friends who travelled across the other side of the globe and we brought them here, they absolutely loved the view and the falls. Multnomah is something you have to experience, I highly recommend. read more

What's it like visiting on a weekday--hoping it isn't crazy crowded? Is there an admission fee for parking and the park itself? And is benson bridge open now?
Weekdays are definitely less crowded but when it’s a sunny day, it’s crowded any day. My recommendation is to go early. Arrive before 10am for easy parking and to avoid the larger crowds mid you are hiking to the top, you will encounter more people…
I read that the falls have reopened as of Aug 12th. It says that you can only enter the parking lot eastbound. We will be going westbound. Is there any way to turn around other than to go all the way to basically Portland? This seem insane

Online it says it temporarily closed I'm assuming from covid does that mean the trail/bridge is blocked off? Or is it just the gift shop?
It’s completely closed!! The roads around it are blocked/closed.
What's the earliest you can hike?
I got there around 6am and there was only 3 other people around. I don't think there's a set time but it's probably sunrise. It's not much of a "hike", just an easy walk.
Is there a motel or cabin we can stay at? And when are the falls flowing?
Motel/cabin - not really... just Yelp it ;-) Flowing - always. Multnomah Falls is North America's 2nd tallest year-round waterfall.
Is there a parking lot?
Across the way.. but plan accordingly it's tiny and gets super packed weekends.
Taking my grandma, how far is the walk to see the bridge from either the gift shop or parking lot?
Hey Crystal, it's a really short walk from the parking lot and the giftshop! If anything you can see it directly from the parking lot. But up close is even better. No more than a 5 minutes walk at most.
I read the highway to the falls is closed due to wildfire/rockfall..anyone has any updates on this?would be visiting Portland around mid November.
The highway is open, but Mutnomah Falls and most of the trails are closed indefinitely due to dangerous rockfall, etc. from the fire.
Can we take a stroller?
