Hmmm...it ain't Munich, but the bier is cold and aplenty. This location in The Rocks provided a cool place to hangout at Sunset as it is nestled between buildings. You can order from the table and the beer and food will be served shortly afterwards. The beer was tasty and the company I had kept it a good time. I didn't think it was so crowded at 5:30pm, but I also might have been expecting more of the Aussies to engage in Oktoberfest activities and spirit...not so much. It was a good set up and I had a good experience. I would come back.
I love the atmosphere at the Brauhaus. It gives the feeling of being in a tavern. I came with my family on a Saturday afternoon. Most people sat outside, leaving the inside open. We were served by a waitress with a German accent. I knew that this will be good eating. I went to Germany in college, so I looked forward to reliving some of those memories. My uncle and I shared a liter of beer. It was plenty for two of us. My mom and aunt got their own drinks. Our meal of choice was a steak with the sausage platter. You have four different varieties to try out. I liked the steak and three of the four sausage varieties. The four of us finished our plates. That was no easy feat. I'm happy I got to come here after a splendid morning on the harbour.
We bumped into this place on late Sunday night after wrapping up an all weekend work event and needed to relax. The place was not too crowded since it was Sunday evening. They had a band playing and then they started inviting people to participate in various games. First was ringing the bell game, next was the yodeling contest (which my friend won) and finally a beer chugging challenge. You get a pretzel necklace if you win. The food was mediocre. We ordered the sausage platter which was enormous, a few pretzels and spicy squid. We also got the 2L beer tube which was exciting. It was a good experience overall. Come here if you want to relax and have some fun with friends or colleagues.
We were waiting for our Harbour Bridge Tour time, so on the recommendation of the staff at the Bridge office we ran down the hill to grab a salad before our hike. Our first mistake was asking for still water....we've both traveled enough to know to order 'tap water', which was apparent when the $9.50 bottle of labeled water showed up...oh well, live and learn. There are ordering forms on the table to customize your salad, and there are lots of choices available for toppings, dressings, etc. We each crafted our selection for a salad and awaited its arrival. Each salad comes with a pretzel bun and very fresh and flavorful ingredients. The price is about what you'd expect in this setting, and there was plenty of food to satisfy almost any appetite. Service was irregular, slow, and a bit baffling. We were sitting close to the host stand, but that didn't help the attentiveness or speed of service. While everyone was cordial enough, it wasn't all that busy and there were a number of servers, but they didn't seem to be well coordinated. Overall I'd go again for the food, but if you have time constraints, it can be a bit frustrating.
I think this place is a bit too touristy and hyped. We came here for the famous pork knuckle but they ran out, and they didn't have sausages either, so we had a very limited menu to choose from. The beer is ok. The bbq chicken wings are too dry, and I would not recommend them. The schnitzel chicken with ham and cheese on top tasters good and the portion is huge. The pork belly is ok as well: the skin is very crispy and the meat is super soft, but I'm not a big fan of the marinated purple vegetable on the side.
I feel like I could've enjoyed this place had the waiter not tried every way possible to take advantage of us as tourists. It seemed like it'd be fun at first, there was a machine to request music, super Munich themed decor, and giant beer servings like das boot and the two liter tube. My friends and I sat down after a day of sight seeing and all ordered das boot, because honestly who wouldn't. Then, the waiter was really pushy about ordering pretzels and we figured it couldn't hurt and if we did and thought maybe he'd be less in our faces. But we were wrong. He next told us about some $80 special that none of us were interested so we said thanks for telling us about it, but we weren't sure we'd want to order it. A but later he came back for food orders and upon hearing that the 8 of us weren't ordering $80 specials each but rather a couple appetizers to share, he was very upset, claiming we told him we were going to order the specials. We decided we weren't enjoying the customer service we were getting, so we finished our beers and asked to pay our tabs. This was when I felt most taken advantage of. You tip in the US, that's a well known fact, and since we were in town visiting friends who live in Australia, we knew not to tip. But this waiter went out of his way to make us feel guilty that we weren't tipping and really made a show of it. Over all it was a very disappointing experience. The worst part is that I know of people who live in Sydney who love it, so it really misses the mark in terms of my expectations.
What a great place, authentic German food, beer, and band. Walk in off of the bustling streets of Sydney into a quaint setting with high top tables, long tables with checkered blue tablecloths, big steins, big pretzels, ambiance, and festive music. We came on a rainy day. It's a big place and it's very crowded. They sat us right away to share a table with another party. We ordered a tasting platter and a pretzel to share. The pretzel was good but small. The platter had different items but my favorite was the crackling pork. The skin was too hard (not crunchy) but the meat was tasty and juicy. The rest of stuff was ok. I liked my Hefeweizen Radler. read more

This is on a fun street and is great for people watching. Portions are huge and the chicken schnitzel was really great. The one thing I didn't like was seeing a waitress use the restroom and not wash her hands afterwards. Really NOT great seeing that after I ate the food. read more

For a late night snack this place served a great burger: the Jojo Jodel - jalapeño chili burger. Chipotle sauce. Tomato sauce. Pickled jalapeño. grilled burger patty. On a soft brioche bread. Pounded this one pretty quickly. For you beer lovers, on a lighter side, the Hop Dock Wheat beer did well with its notes of spic, toffee and banana. This is a mild Australian beer to enjoy on holiday. Server was nice. Also, for you ranch sauce lovers they do have this as well but on the lighter side of taste. TVs available on outside the patio seating. Another indoor/outdoor patio. 2% surcharge on any debit/ credit card. Bring cash. read more
This place used to be called Lowenbrau, I haven't been in 6 years but on my visit back to Sydney from LA, had to stop by. Quite disappointed really. The service wasn't great at all, took forever to seat us when the place was empty, we sat down and got our drinks fairly quickly, they took forever to ask for our food order and bringing it out took forever too. We were in a rush to catch a ferry and told the lady we needed to pay for our check, she took her sweet time coming to collect it. The only thing great was the beverages, which you can get elsewhere. Sad that our experience wasn't great at all. read more

Probably one of the best food experiences I've had in Sydney. If you like good rich German cuisine and large cold German biers, it'd be hard to do better. Particularly recommended is the bravarian taste platter, which was also offered in an all you can eat option the night I was there. Even without that though bring your appetite or some friends because it is one large plate of meaty deliciousness. read more

This was a bit of a letdown. The service was VERY slow and our order had a small mistake, but it wasn't a big deal. We also ordered a large pretzel but they didn't bring it out as a starter, they brought it out with our main meal. The service issues weren't isolated to us: 2 tables right next to us had major service issues. One table never received a side item and the other never received one of their meals. As for the food, it was decent. The schnitzel could've definitely been pounded out thinner. The breading was good and it was cooked well, but it didn't have a true German schnitzel feel/flavor to it. read more
Had a fantastic pork knuckle as good as any I have had in Germany! In fact it was better than most. Service was a bit slow as other reviewers have mentioned. However it was a beautiful day outside and I sat outside and it was glorious. Recommended if you are at a leisurely pace. read more

Decent food, OK beer. My wife got a giant pork knuckle with crispy skin. I got the wiener schnitzel, my older son got the fish & chips, and younger son a giant pretzel. Food was good, fried but not greasy. My older son, who has been to Munich, thought that it was an authentic representation of an actual brauhaus. read more
I've always been a sucker for a fun German brew house anywhere I travel. Munich Brauhaus did not disappoint. The beer selection and food was great and the decor and vibe were a lot of fun. I'm pretty sure we will be spending a few more nights enjoying beer and food here as we enjoy our stay in Sydney. read more

We stopped by for our last dinner in Australia. The porch was loud so we took a seat inside. It is seated family style so we had to sit two on each side of large table. It was a little uncomfortable getting behind people to sit down. We ordered a Radler( pale ale and lemonade) and soft drinks which come out in hug mugs. Dinner was Mac n cheese balls (fair), onion rings (excellent), fish and chips(fair), ribs full rack ( pretty good), make your own veggie wrap (good)and schnitzel (good). They had a band playing sets of music, pretty good but was a bit loud for our taste. Waitress was a little scattered and took a bit to get our bill. Not a place of you are in a hurry read more

I choosed this restaurant for my birthday. I like pork and sausage and my friend recommend this place for me. Maybe for me it's a little bit expensive due to I am still student and have no job.I really like the food it provided. It's really a lovely night for me. read more

This Old world German eatery was always here .... under a few different names over the years has served as a popular spot for delicious food & well crafted beers in every size you may crave. I popped in early on the last night of Vivid light festival ..... was just after a tasty meal and a couple of refreshing get beers before pounding the beat around the harbor. I enjoyed the food (as pictured) ...... enjoyed the smooth tasting beers ..... yet heavy on the punch !! The staff were quick, friendly & efficient. I feel because I was there early that the food rolled out quick so keep that in mind if you enter at a time when it's packed to the max. Joey D recommends this eatery .... bring your appetite and ear plugs if you want to hear yourself chew. read more
With so many good cooks and family in Sydney we hardly find reason to dine out, but Munich was an experience I'll never forget! The underground vibe of the place was really cool. It was my first time at a German pub and not being a meat eater I was expecting to go for the fun. But they actually had some vegetarian options for me, and my family was raving about the sausages and schnitzels. I was surprised we got a table with the rush of Friday night but we did and boy it was fun. There was so much action and entertainment all around it was loud but so lively and enjoyable. We all had a blast I can't wait to go back. read more

First stop in Sydney. My pops is not a fan of food other than Asian dish, but this knuckle and Munich's platter taste awesome! He liked it. The waitress did a good job on serving the table. Since we had the outside table, we got to listen to some performers. It was fun! read more
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Sydney. We visited during Oktoberfest. The food, the beer, the music, and the ambiance made it for a pretty amazing evening. We were a group of 9 people and were squeezed into a fairly small table, but we were near the bar and the band, which is where we wanted to be. It was loud, it was busy, and it was awesome. The guys went to the bar to get their pints of beer, which was faster than asking the waiter. We ordered pretzels, which came out warm and were the perfect appetizer. Then came the platter for two and OMG it was amazing...the pork knuckle is a must! Perfectly crispy on the outside while juicy and flavorful. The crunch when you break into that outer layer of crispy goodness is out worth all the calories you're about to consume. The platter easily feeds 4. The sausages, schnitzel, pork belly, mashed potatoes and sauerkraut are all delicious. We had so much fun eating, drinking beer, and singing along with the band. Highly recommend this place. read more
