Unfortunately, my experience with dental care by Dr. Rogers at Munster Distinctive Dentistry was very disappointing. I went in to fix a small chipped filling and had no pain or sensitivity at that time. After the filling was replaced, I started having pain when chewing. I returned for bite adjustments, but the pain continued. I was then advised to get an onlay. Looking back, I wish I had gotten a second opinion at that point, but I trusted the recommendation and proceeded. After the onlay, my symptoms became significantly worse, including cold sensitivity, severe pain when chewing, and jaw pain that lasted for over a month. I ultimately sought a second opinion and was told I now need a root canal, and that the work was very close to the nerve and became inflamed. When I contacted the clinic to discuss my experience, I was told the issue may be related to pulp stones. This was frustrating to hear only after going through multiple treatments on the same tooth within a few months. This possibility was not raised earlier, despite several visits and X-rays, and the tooth had no prior nerve issues. I was also very disappointed with the billing. I was initially quoted around $475 after insurance for the onlay, but my total out-of-pocket ended up being $1,050. I was told this was due to insurance paying less than expected, even though the clinic is in-network with my insurance. A difference of this size is not what I would expect from an in-network estimate. Overall, this was a very frustrating experience. I do not recommend coming here for dental care and would not trust their estimates. read more

I have been a proud patient of this practice for 13 years and have told friends and family far and wide how great MDD is. However, I would not recommend this practice to anyone for a pediatric exam, especially less than 5 years old or for a child's first dental exams. My 2 year old son had his very first exam today and it was a NOTHING like a toddlers first dental experience should be. We have been prepping for this, talking about it, getting him prepared, and he was very very excited. The hygienist did not engage with him, teach him about how to brush his teeth or why it's important, show him his teeth in a mirror, or make it a fun or enjoyable experience for my son in any way. Instead she was pushy, short, and made us feel forced into doing things we didn't feel comfortable with. I was clear from the time I made the appointment, when I checked in, and when we sat down in the room that this was his FIRST dental experience and I wanted it to just be a casual fun, meet and greet type exam where he learned about how to take care of his teeth and we could come back another time for the cleaning. Instead she insisted we do x-rays and the full cleaning, including holding my son down to use instruments (HES 2 YEARS OLD). We then waited 20 minutes for the doctor to come... absolutely terrible, awful experience. Do not bring young children here, they are not equip for toddler and/or first dental visits. My son will never be back and truthfully I'm not sure myself or my husband will be either. read more

The dentists are wonderful, but not the staff. I do NOT recommend this office! So many problems. My family and I had been going there for a few years without incident until the pandemic. All of a sudden they would not accept my insurance (Aetna) for some services even though they had before. They told me they don't get reimbursed enough. I called my insurance and all services (per contract) at that office with all dentists are covered. I held off on getting work done for almost a year so I could switch insurance companies. They accepted my new insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield) but again not all services. They told me I had to go somewhere else. I needed a few crowns per their care plan. For an office so big that can do so much they are sending people away? . They have now lost the business of a family. read more

I'm so disappointed with this place. I paid an extra $400 for a PERMANENT retainer for my daughter. It's come off TWICE in a year. My daughter wasn't eating anything she wasn't supposed to when this happened. Obviously they don't know how to permanently bond this to her teeth. They told me it would be $600 now to replace. She has had MULTIPLE problems with brackets breaking off and a wire completely came off at one point as well. I am a middle school teacher and I will be recommending to all the parents I come in contact to NEVER give this place their business. read more

The staff are very nice, the doctors are sufficient for standard dental fare such as cleanings and cavity fillings. Their tech seems fairly up-to-date. However, I CANNOT recommend this dentist office at all. If something is not covered by your insurance, you will soon find out just how absurd their prices are. They overcharge for just about EVERYTHING. To make it worse, though, they tack on as many services as possible before you even have a chance to blink. I have not only heard numerous stories from friends, family, and even strangers of MDD conducting services or tacking on charges for specific things that they never asked for and, worse, were NOT NOTIFIED OF ahead of time. They also are way, way to eager to conduct much more invasive, and costly, procedures when not necessary. As an example: During my latest deep cleaning, which was over $100 out of pocket, one of my old fillings fell out in a tooth that the doctor was slightly concerned MIGHT need a root canal based on X-rays over 8 months old. Without taking new X-rays or even LOOKING AT MY TOOTH the doctor told the hygienist that it "definitely" needed a root canal and they estimated it to be around ***$2800*** out of pocket for the whole kit and kaboodle and went straight into scheduling the appointment just over a week out. Thankfully, I decided to go to another dentist who doesn't take my insurance but still estimates the same procedure at *HALF* the cost with *BETTER* technology and a much better reputation and track record. After his prelimary, where he actually took fresh X-rays and examined the tooth himself, he said it was a 50/50 chance at most that I might actually need a root canal and scheduled me for an emergency filling on even shorter notice and for a fraction of the price (again, with much better technology). Long story short, MDD was VERY quick to jump the gun straight to a "definite" root canal at an absurd price while the real likelihood if it actually being necessary is a coinflip at most. To make it worse, the other doc said IF it requires a root canal he will send me to an endodontist. Never trust a doc who will jump straight to a procedure without even looking at you, but a doc who's willing to admit when something is not within their expertise and a specialist is more appropriate is far more trustworthy! Oh, but this isn't even what made me decide to end my tenure as a patient at MDD. That was the salt they threw in the wound after giving me that absurd estimate. They gave me another estimate for my next normal visit, a standard cleaning, where a mysterious $45 out-of-pocket charge settled itself upon the page. Asking the hygienist what it was, she explained it was a "new office policy" that they're "pushing," a MANDATORY oral cancer screening. Mandatory, as in you cannot decline this service. I have never smoked any kind of substance, never chewed tobacco, and never even drank alcohol. I have never taken part in any other major risky behaviors for oral cancer. I am under 30 years of age with absolutely NO family history of oral cancer. When I inquired as to what the realistic risk for someone like me, the hygienist completely danced around the answer and never provided it for me while simply stating it's an "office policy." Which conveniently is not covered by insurance, and they are forcing upon every single patient. It's not about the money at that point. $45 is a pittance compared to the *$2800* root canal. It's the principle of being strong-armed into a service I do not feel necessary for my particular circumstances. That is an insult to every patient, every customer, by viewing us as nothing more than bags of money to shove their hands into and rip whatever they want out of. Shameful. Despicable. "But you only have to do it once a year!" How about this? I don't do it once a year, or at all in your office, because I'm going to another dentist across town! If MDD is the only office that takes your insurance nearby, give them a try, but watch your bill like a hawk and expect to be treated like a bag of money to them! read more

This dental provider started off stellar, 8 years ago. Since, there are new dentists and unethical business practices. I was refused service because they now mandate services, that are optional, and not covered under my dental coverage (cancer screening and fluoride). It was confirmed that no notice was sent out, verbally nor written, by the staff. I was in the chair when they told me of this new practice. Although the staff is so friendly and helpful, it's a shame what management is doing with this dentist office. Also, be cautious with their orthodontics. I was told in 2020 that 50% would be covered by insurance, however they never sent the correct paperwork in and I ended up paying the full balance out of pocket. I filled a complaint with my insurance provider and encourage anyone else that is mandated treatment that is not covered to do the same! Shame on you! read more

My 4 year had an appointment and they wouldn't let me go back with her (post Covid). It was her fourth visit at this office and she never gave them any issues cleaning her teeth. This fourth visit she came to get one very tiny cavity filled. The assistant convinced her everything would be ok since she sat so nice and cooperated for her other visits. To convince us even further they said they wouldn't needed to use the Papoose board or any restraints since she has been such a easy patient. Long story short I've been coming here for years and trusted that my daughter was in good hands but I was wrong. My older daughter comes out of her visit first upset saying how sad she was for her little sister. She told me she can here her crying and screaming back there. Right before I can knock on the door the assistant comes out with a paper needing a signature for a charge because they ended up using the papoose on my 4 year old. I was furious. Not once did anyone notify me that she was having a hard time back there. As a parent we decided whether or not they use that damn thing. Oh and they charge a couple hundred dollars to use this torture device!!! This experience ruined the dentist for my little one. She's now terrified of the dentist. Thank God I found South Shores Dental in Saint John. They let me go back with my daughter no matter what and they're showing her not all dentist are the same. They are slowly gaining her trust back. The staff suggested I get extra cleanings and I can pay out of pocket. I did that on the first extra cleaning. I paid for the service. The office cashed my check that day and filed a claim to the insurance for the same amount that I paid. That is double dipping, possibly fraudulent. The point of paying the amount is to not have to file a claim nor do you have to because the service was paid for. In the meantime, I was also waiting on a check of reconciliation for over paying for a crown. Their office staff could not manage to get that resolved in a timely manner but I was the one that got it resolved. I finally got a refund but no break down of the reconciliations. I called today and Julie their claims person said that the second cleaning (which was to be an extra cleaning) was refunded. Okay that fixes the double dipping but in her next response to me, she claims all visits must have a claim filed. That is an out right lie! if the service was paid in full and for the correct amount a claim does not have to be filed If the patient doesn't want it filed! This office has some serious business practices that need address! read more

I called here for an emergency exam for my daughter they were able to get me in the next day early morning. Getting there it was so clean the staff was very helpful and super friendly to my daughter. This has to be the most unprofessional office I've ever been to. They show how racist they can be right after you sign the payment agreement with them. When a request to speak with the main dentist is presented they give every reason as to why I cannot speak to one. I wish I would have read the reviews from Google before going into the office. As someone who is very anxious about going to the dentist, I can honestly say my experience with the MDD practice was excellent. I visited Dr. Miller for the first time for a crown, a procedure I was very nervous about and immediately felt comfortable and at ease. Her ability to explain the process and her constant care and attention was top notch. Eliu assisted and was so knowledgeable and extremely personable that I felt as if I had been a long term patient of theirs. I got my wisdom teeth pulled yesterday and I can remember the dentists name who performed the surgery but her and her assistants were so kind to me. They seen I was nervous for the surgery and gave me a blanket and made sure i was calm before starting. If I made a noise or raised my hand they stopped everything to make sure I was okay. 10/10 totally recommend !! read more
