I was looking for a tailor that was in the southern section of Simsbury or right over the Avon line. I went online and found Murat's and thought I would give him a try. I brought in a shirt that the hem came undone. He was able to fit it without even being able to notice it. A few months later my daughter needed her prom dress hemmed. He did a wonderful job on her dress too. Over the past few weeks I brought in several shirts that needed to be made smaller. Once again Murat did a wonderful job. I have been a customer for the last three years. The man who worked there was awesome. A few weeks ago I dropped off a brand new $200.00 pair of jeans with a woman. I asked for a non-original hem to 29 inches. $20.00 later I received an original hem @ 29.5 inches. I brought the pants back. The woman gave me attitude when I asked for it to be fixed. Said the best she could do fixing it would be 28.5 inches. Fine. I sent my husband to pick them up as I just didn't even want to deal with her, especially if the jeans were not correct again. He picked them up. Another $10.00 later - the jeans are 27.5 inches - far too short for me to even wear. Ruined. Unwearable. $230.00 down the drain. There is no way I will ever bring anything back to this woman. She will NEVER touch my clothing again. read more

Murat's Tailoring did an AMAZING job at altering my off-the-rack wedding dress from a Size 12 to a Size 6. The dress was a Watters silk organza ball gown with at least seven layers of tulle underneath. The tailor was able to take in the bodice as well as shorten the gown. The owner was responsive in understanding what I wanted done to the dress and the tailor did so with great skill and efficiency. The owner was also understanding and flexible when I ended up losing additional weight in the last couple weeks before my wedding. It wasn't a cheap tailoring job, but for what I paid received safe and proper handling of my expensive designer dress, which fit to a tee. read more

Tailoring is a difficult business it seems. Bodies are all shaped differently and making something fit perfectly just seems to be so hard to do. It seems antiquated (like at this point we'd have an Iphone sewing for us or something), but it's such a necessary profession--we all need a skilled tailor like Murat for those clothes that just need a little tweaking! I bought a beautiful pink tweed skirt from J Crew and thought it was going to fit just right. But after a few days of wearing it, and it became a whole two sizes bigger. So, I brought it to Murat (read the Yelp reviews for him, which encouraged me to go!) At first, when I came to pick it up (a week after dropping it off), the skirt was too small. Then, I decided I wanted them to try again (and they didn't charge me more for this), and they made it a little bigger. Then, it took me nearly 3 weeks to come and pick it up (they close at 6 pm, and I work late nearly every night and am away most weekends, so this was very difficult for me!). BUT, finally, I got the chance to get over there (calling 10 minutes before close while frantically going over Avon Mountain, calling 411 for their number. Talk about antiquated) and tried on the skirt. Again, too small in the butt, but I decided that the reason why I brought it in the first place was because it's tweed, and tweed apparently stretches out a lot. I just couldn't see this pink tweed skirt as unwearable, especially after spending $30 on tailoring. I wasn't going to make them bring it back to the size it was again, instead, I became more determined to lose 5 pounds. Thanks Murat, for encouraging me to stick to yoga and running. Unintended consequence of a tailoring job, I bet. Now, two days after wearing it (it just needed to stretch out a bit!), it fits perfectly! I bought a lehnga for an Indian wedding I was asked to be a part of for a friend. The lehnga was beautiful but poorly made and hugged my curves a little too tightly in all the wrong places, making me look falsely pregnant and feel really uncomfortable wearing it. I brought it to Murat's and he showed me how little extra fabric there was to work with. I asked him to do the best he could, that letting it out whatever amount he could would help me feel more comfortable. I returned a week later and I can honestly say he is a miracle worker. It fit the way I had hoped, no longer hugged my curves in the wrong places and I can now wear it with confidence and enjoy the day celebrating a dear friend. I have to say I had the worst experience here. I would give this NO stars if that was an option. I decided to come here because a friend has her wedding dress fixed here and loved it. I paid $150 which I was okay paying more for something I couldn't afford to have screwed up. It was $30 per layer of the dress so that was $90. Another $60 for the shortening of straps and taking it in the side. When I got the dress back, the back of the dress flopped over. He told me he couldn't fix it and that's how the dress is. I am not a tailor so I can't tell the tailor how to fix it but that is not how a dress should look. He stitched a little in the inside to hold it up but it still looked miserable. I was fighting back tears and didn't know what to do so I left. I took it somewhere less and it was an easy fix. I called for a refund and asked if it was okay to come. The tailor said no problem. I came and he did not remember me and we went back and forth. I wasted time coming here to argue with him. The way he handled it was unprofessional and made me feel like I was in the wrong. He also told me that I should have come back for him to fix. I had no trust in his ability to fix the problem so I was not going to come back. I was extremely hopeful from what I saw on yelp and what my friend said but my experience says quite the opposite. read more

I had a satin bridesmaids dress that I needed hemmed. I went in, put the dress on and he marked how high it needed to go. While I had it on he made some observations that there was too much excess material making it flow too far away from my body. I told him to go ahead and fix that as well as I took his word for it. I had my husband pick the dress up for me and later tried it on. It looks wonderful, as if no one had touched it. His suggestions made a huge difference and I am so pleased. I just moved here and needed a tailor pronto. I had a suit that needed altering just to wear it since it was brand new. Let's get some of the things out of the way. No credit cards. I used checks Business hours are 9-6 everyday and closed Sunday It's the shop on the first floor in the corner. The shop is not extravagant, but it's not what the store looks like, but how well the service is. I had the pants hemmed, and my jacket was under the surgeons table. I had the jacket taken in on the sides, the sleeves shortened, the sleeves trimmed, the back altered. I also needed this in 3 business days. I dropped it off Monday and picked it up Thursday. It came out to be 90 dollars. Not so bad since my old tailor in MD charged me 45 just to take in the sides. When I dropped off my item, I was pleased that he suggested some things for me, but I knew what I wanted and how I wanted it to look. He gave some pointers for me and some suggestions, and we did a mixture of both of our ideals. When I picked up my item, he helped me try on my jacket, observed how I looked in it, and commented. I was pleased with the service. My suggestion is to know what you want when you walk through the door. It makes it easier for everyone. read more

I brought in my wedding dress that was far too big in the bust as well as far too long and in just a few days he made it fit like a glove.
