New to the area and stumbled on this business. Tailor is elderly and barely uttered a word, not sure if it was a language barrier or he was hearing impaired. That absolutely not being the issue, however. The place absolutely has an overbearing smell of smoke to the point that both I and my clothes did too after leaving them there for a week. Decent job at a cheaper price, however add back in the dry cleaning for the ashtray smell - not so cheap. Don't recommend will never go back. read more

I annually need a tailor to shorten my grandsons uniform pants. I called around and found out the prices were crazy. I found Sal Prizio owner of Oakwood Tailors and found the real deal as far as tailors go. Quality work for a reasonable price. The altered items are pressed and on a hangers. He even took into consideration the 13 year old would grow ...leaving length in the hem. He takes pride in his work. I am so glad our family found him. He is a 5 Star artisan in our community. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CLOTHES HERE. I brought pants in to be hemmed. They LOST them, and gave me the biggest run around on replacing them. I had to go in 5x, confront them and put up with phone calls from the "son in law" telling me I'd have to take them to small claims court to resolve it.. seriously, worst service I've EVER dealt with. read more

This tailor shop has been here 25 years. I just popped a picture up of these two tailors. Nice guys and they do a nice job. In my case I had 5 suits that were only a year old, but they came with cuffs on the pants. I just did not like the look, it seems dated. I dropped off the 5 pairs and a week later I have a much sleeker nice look. I hope they make it 25 more years! That would mean they would be centurions by that time... : ) read more

First tailor I tried since moving to West Hartford in July and hopefully the last! So far I've been extremely happy with the alterations Oakwood Tailor has completed on my clothes, all @ v reasonable, fair prices. I had a huge elbow rip repaired [$8], hole in a blazer pocket sewn [$5], torn hem repaired on a pair of pants [$5], unfinished hem on a sweater hemmed [$10], buttons resewn on a shirt [$5]. I needed a shirt altered same day for an event. Tailor was able to do adjustments in 4 hours for $15. Tailor is a smoker. Shirt smelled like an ashtray. I couldn't wear the shirt to the event because I had to air it out. I also noticed the stitching was sloppy and didn't lay flat. When I got home I saw they caused minor damage to my shirt by using a sewing needle too thick for the fabric. read more

I recently brought a pair of pants with cuffs to be hemmed. When I picked them up the cuffs were GONE! This ruined my pants. The tailor started yelling at me telling me that I should have noticed the low price! I will never never go back there. What a disappointment to be verbally abused and to lose a brand new pair of pants. read more

I took my winter coat out of storage and discovered it would no longer zip up. Took it to Oakwood Tailor expecting the whole zipper would need to be replaced. Instead they spent less than 5 minutes with it, and then handed it back to me good as new--and at no charge! I will be back when I need something tailored. read more

Sal does good work but is very old school. I also found him to be a bit stubborn as he wanted to tailor my suits to how he thought they should look vs. how I wanted them to look. A week's time frame turned into 2 weeks as a result. He's a heavy smoker as well so expect your garments to come back with the smell of cigarettes. The actual tailoring is decent but my experience was average to poor at best. Only accepts cash as well. read more
