Recently did a DIY farm stand tour of South Jersey…read more Heard Maugeri's heirloom tomatoes were awesome... um yes, for sure, SFG!!!! Prices were higher than some of the other farm stands I tried, but my main purchase was the tomatoes and they were pretty reasonable, as were some mini peppers I also got. Everything was great quality and very fresh. The tomatoes were like tomato candy. I had them with just a little feta on top and they needed nothing else. I felt like I'd just eaten a fudge cake, they were that amazingly decadent in flavor. YUM! There is a cold case section too, for dairy items. Novelty ice cream treats in the freezer and Bassetts Ice Cream. They also carry nitrate/nitrite-free bacon for a better deal than my normal organic farm, here in PA. It was too far of a drive for me to stock up, but for those of you who are local, it's a deal! Staff is friendly, and you can see the farm fields surrounding this place, going on forever, off into the distance. Very picturesque! Will be back next year for those crazy-bomb tomatoes!

My wife shops at Maugeris regularly in season to get our produce. Farm fresh is best! We went for their fall celebration around Halloween and it was a blast. They had a nice long hay ride, a great pumpkin patch, and lots of family friendly activities for both of my kids who are a toddler and tween.

For the latte flight that I had my favorite was beekeeper, but also liked the birthday themed one that even came with a lit up candle. My husband and I shared a cinnamon bun style waffle. Most everything that we had was a delicious treat! The one thing I will say is that it can be quite crowded in the shop. It's safe to say that you should get a seat before you order any food or a flight. The food menu was not posted on the main board and we only found it on one of the tables. I have to say because it was so crowded. This would be a one and done due to the lack of seating. It's a little too unpredictable for the drive that we did to not have a seat although we did find something eventually regardless I still really enjoyed what I did have and would give it a suggestion.

Today, I got the all American iced latte flight which had 4 yummy flavors and one was better than the next. My husband being a plain eater got a plain toasted bagel with butter and a hot coffee. I ordered the egg salad on a croissant which came with an amazing salad of spring mix and berries and boy was it delicious. I ate all the salad but couldn't make a dent in the egg salad. I also ordered the flatbread with strawberries, Brie , basil and honey and omg it was delicious. They have so many yummy menu items and now serving dirty sodas so looking forward to my next visit!

The conversation in the car had turned to JERSEY TOMATOES. If there is anything that New Jersey…read moredoes right with consistency it truly is the JERSEY TOMATO!!! You can toss in Jersey White Corn too as an after thought plus the freshest clams in the world come from the waters off the Jersey shore. That's about it ... otherwise speed down the Parkway to the next state. Perhaps there was something magical about the car because right after talking about those tomatoes what appears along Kings Highway... a big roadside sign for JOAN's MARKET. And, what is forcing the redirection of the car .... JERSEY TOMOATOS. Ok, so the sign poster can't spell but we aren't about to enlist the owner in the National Spelling Bee ... we want TOMATOES!!!! From a New Jersey farm field not the Florida bouncy ball tomatoes that fill grocery store shelves. Entering this rather dingy market we spot the tomatoes and out from behind the "curtain" steps Joan. Yes, she is really Joan and has been running this stand since she married into the farm family back in the 1970's. Her mother-in-law not only gave her a husband she gave her the family farm stand; Joan didn't indicate which was the better reward but did say that her husband had promised to put her name up in lights when they were dating and then she pointed to the market's sign. I would not call this a fully stocked market. The options are few but the options are farm fresh! While filling a bag with tomatoes one of Joan's neighbors came in. He said 'it's so great to be able to get farm fresh almost at the end of my driveway." I watched as Joan tried to refuse his payment but she relented. Now please note ... Joan is a farmer. She has two relatively small fields to grow crops. The tomatoes, the cantaloupes, the corn are hers ... also grown in New Jersey were some peaches (I don't think these were hers.) and blueberries. You will pay more for farm fresh then you might get with your coupon at the corporate grocers but your first bite will reward you with great taste. Joan provided a sampling of a peach ... increasing the purchase to include some. The real treat ... the disappearing reality is that Joan offers customers a slice of Americana that once was but is quickly fading. This stand has been in operation since the 1930's. She has run it since the 1970's. She will talk with you, share stories, smile and even complain. What an awesome gift that Joan offers if you are traveling down the highway of South Jersey thinking about a really good tomato, some mozzarella and maybe a dash of balsamic with a little fresh basil. MMMMMMMM
