Mothman stands in all his glory at 12', his red eyes piercing through your soul. He was constructed from stainless steel that has a mirror effect. Paying homage to Mothman is one of the biggest draws during the annual Mothman Festival. Folks have been drawn to the mysterious human/creature since 1966. It's said to have been at that time when several witnesses spied the creature at the West Virginia Ordinance Works (an abandoned TNT area). Go to Point Pleasant for the Mothman...if you dare!

Mothman is so fun and freakishly wild and just about the only thing that puts this sleepy West Virginia town on the map. If you're within twenty or thirty miles and at all susceptible to kitsch how can you not swing by and snap a pic or three and maybe a couple dozen selfies with ol' red eyes here in all his anthropomorphic glory? And not only is your time with the statue free but you might actually make money if you choose to snatch the funds people have stuck into Mothy's bunghole. I don't know the story on that custom and pilfering butt money might be bad luck, though. As much as it pains this Detroiter to admit it I must say the Mothman statue is cooler than the Robocop statue.

It wasn't…read moreplanned the night before, so I got a lot of grumbling [not under their breathes either] BUT, they were moving and that's all that mattered so I turned a deaf ear to the remarks...Noel asked if her boyfriend could go if she could wake him up and he could be ready..I had no issues, so she called him, he readily agreed...my kind of trooper...no complaints to the chief!!! Good man!! We were on the road by 530am, stopped for gas and drove the 1.5 hrs over into Zaleski State Forest to go hiking. We stopped at Lake Hope State Park roadside area to check out the Historical Hope Iron Furnace. It is FREE to explore and plenty of signage to learn about the history. There are 69 Charcoal Iron Furnace in the Hanging Rock Region which stretches over 100 miles from Logan, OH to My Savage, KY. Great area to picnic. There are tables, grills and bathroom area. There are several marked trails to hike. Tony, Noel, Adam and I had a nice afternoon and a great way to kill an hour and for FREE..and historical...WIN WIN all the way around!!!

The venue is always in such a beautiful condition and incredibly clean. All our guests loved it just as much as we did. We had our wedding in the courtyard where the pool used to be, along with reserving the gym area and carriage house. They had plenty of parking for everyone and more than enough space for 160 guests. I just can't say enough nice things about the venue and staff. Everything turned out so wonderfully that day. I'll always recommend this venue anytime I'm asked about local places to look at for weddings or even other events.

General William Tecumseh Sherman grew up here and then lived in the home with his family. It has been lovingly restored with many of the families own belongings. Each tour is guided and narrated by a local knowledgeable docent. Furnishings are beautiful with pieces dating back to the 1800's. This is a must do when you visit.

Being that I live so closed, I've looked into its background and it's pretty cool. It's history is long and rather weird, starting way back in 1895 when circus owner Peter Sells asked a well known Columbus architect to build a home for his wife. This architect was Frank Packard and he designed the one-of-a-kind home with gothic, tudor, chateauesque styles mixed with his own personal flare, even adding circus-like touches throughout. Fun fact - This same architect build the Ohio Governor's Mansion, the Jeffrey Mansion, and at least one other in the city. The Sells mansion was on the market for quite some and it started to go a little down hill. However, it was finally purchased in 2020 and I've noticed the new owners are doing what they can to renovate and bring it back to life.

They shook substantially when people walked and were very noisy. The gentleman behind me was a toe tapper (no shame! Totally normal) but the floors made it seem like Godzilla was wrecking a city behind me -Volunteers served as ushers and they were... Confused. We were taken to the wrong seats (even side instead of odd) and the guys taking tickets were similarly befuddled -The layout of the plastic chairs in the back of the bottom section felt haphazard. If you've been following my reviews for a while then you know I absolutely adore covered bridges…read more So it should be no surprise that I have decided to visit a few while on our summer family vacation passing through Ohio. Zeller-Smith was on my radar because of it's proximity to our hotel. I found the drive to this bridge to be very enjoyable. Ohio is full of farmland and most all the fields have only recently been planted. Since the Springtime vegetation is so low, you can see for miles and miles. I truly loved how subdivisions and single family homes were integrated into the farmland landscape. Sort of made me feel like Marty McFly in Back to the Future when he went back in time and discovered the "coming soon" sign for the sudivision his family home would eventually be located in. BRIDGE FACTS Year Built: 1905 Builder: J.W.Buchanan Length: 79 feet Relocated to current location: 1986 Truss type: Multiple Kingpost Location: Sycamore Creek Park over Sycamore Creek in Pickerington, Ohio. FINAL THOUGHTS The park area is nice and has two playgrounds. On both sides of the bridge are large expansive fields. On the parking side there is a huge soccer field while on the other is an Arboretum with a lovely sitting area and beautiful meadow. The walk to the bridge from the parking area is paved and a small gravel path leads you to the creek where you can get a side view of this historic structure. I didn't find the paint color scheme chosen for this bridge to be attractive, but I do applaud the communities effort to integrate this bridge into the landscape. It is obvious someone (or a group of someone's) is caring for this bridge. Thank you for preserving it for our generation and many generations to come.
