During the design process he worked hard to accommodate my "wish lists" that I kept adding to (yikes!). At the same time, he advised me on things I should consider in order to keep costs down. I always felt he had my interests at heart, while at the same time he was doing what was necessary to meet codes, so we could avoid problems during construction and inspections. While engineers and architects seem to be really busy these days, SF Bay's turnaround time is reasonable, and when you need something in a hurry, they try their best to accommodate. This is a top notch engineering company that charges modest and fair pricing for doing excellent work. If you are lucky enough to come across them, don't hesitate, just hire them and you will be glad you did.

After the plans were released and payment was made Lokesh remained very responsive to requests as they come up. It's possible that they'd been there for a long time, but I uploaded the photos to Claude and it strongly recommended getting a structural engineer to assess the damage. I put out several inquiries and ProStruct responded very quickly. I had a free phone consultation with Irvin Chua of ProStruct and he said that he could have an engineer assess the cracked beam and to look for any other sources of damage. Note, that one will need to pay upfront ($875 is their standard fee), which gave me some pause but moved forward as there didn't look to be many structural engineers with a Yelp presence. Irvin arranged for their engineer, Francis, to make a site visit. Francis was professional and confirmed that the foundation and support beams all were in good shape aside from the crack. He went over his recommended repairs and noted that a handyman could handle it and we didn't need a contractor, which saved us money. The report provided was clear and detailed and the handyman had no problems following the recommendations. Repairs are now complete and we have peace of mind that our housing support is solid again.

I recently hired Wei Hong Yang as a structural engineer for a home renovation project. Communication: His email turnaround time is about 12-24 hours after you sign the contract. As a busy professional with many clients and cases, he never answer the phone promptly when urgent matters arose. While I understand that he is a highly sought-after professional, I believe that being busy should not be used as an excuse for poor communication. Competence: While I found his technical skills to be impressive, I had some concerns about the design of the interior spaces. In particular, I found that the floor plan was not very convenient for daily use, and some aspects of the design did not take into account practical considerations. As a first-time home owner, I found that his fees added up quickly, and I felt that he was primarily focused on getting the project done quickly and obtaining the necessary permits rather than prioritizing my overall satisfaction as a customer. While I appreciate Mr. Yang's structure expertise in obtaining permits, I would have preferred a more customer-centric approach, with greater attention paid to my needs and preferences. Overall, I would NOT recommend Mr. Yang to others. If you read till here, I would advise you to carefully consider the costs (time + problems left on home owner + money) and to communicate your needs and concerns clearly throughout the process.

What was going on and what was happening if I had any concerns, he addressed them immediately and make sure that they met my expectations. I would use Wise Builders again and I would request Marc to be my project manager again on any future jobs that I had. He worked really well with our designer Jocelyn, I appreciated having a designer. Having a designer to bounce ideas off have her expertise on fixtures and toilets was amazing. Jocelyn did an excellent job working with me and when my daughter had some changes to this design, she was very receptive to those changes and helped me update the changes in our design The only thing that could have been better is, if the tile supplier had communicated with Marc that the tile for the guest shower floor was backlogged. Marc worked really hard to expedite the tile and was in communication with me along that process. In order to give us options besides waiting for the tile, Jocelyn, our designer gave us an alternative tile. Looking at the tile floor now I like it better than what I had originally chosen. I have done other remodeling projects and I would have to say that working with Marc has probably been one of the easiest remodeling projects that I have done. I appreciated that I did not have to be so hands-on in the project because I trusted that Marc would get it done.

Jocelyn spent time in our home, drafted plans, took me shopping, and sourced all the fixtures. From her spreadsheet I was able to find less expensive options for some items. I appreciated the input and control I had on these expenses. Since we needed to move out, I had a tight timeline for the project -- mid October until Thanksgiving. Marc and the team did their best despite City of San Jose delays with inspections. We were able to move back in before the final inspection. Every member of the team was kind and courteous. Marc also did a great job working with the window vendor that specializes in older homes. I'm rating the experience a 4.5 out of 5 for two reasons. I was disappointed that the medicine cabinet, switch plates, and hooks were initially installed unevenly (it was corrected). I expected more attention to detail. And I was disappointed in the wear & tear that happened on my wood floors as well as the overall dust in my dining room. I was warned that things would get dusty -- but didn't understand the extent and would have packed away more things. WISE offers lots of support with design -- they could also offer as part of their package a full cleaning! I offer this feedback to help others calibrate their expectations. Overall it was a positive experience. I waited several months to post this review until I returned from travel and could see how things were settling after regular use.
