Other than the prices and Wilber Shirley's absence, it really hadn't changed much in the past 20 years. The decor is "1960s eastern NC BBQ restaurant", which adds to the appeal. Service was friendly and attentive. Our drinks never went empty during our meal. The owner also stopped by to check on us as well. Our server brought us a small basket of hushpuppies, clearly just out of the fryer. While hot, the recipe had not changed over the years and were just as bland as always. Accompanying the hushpuppies was a small serving of some sort of sauce; it didn't had much flavor but I think it was supposed to be butter or at least buttery. My dining companion got the quarter-rack rib special. The ribs were meaty, very flavorful, and tender. They were good enough that the accompanying barbecue sauce really detracted from the ribs. The potato salad was as good as ever. The serving included 4 ribs for $12.50, which I thought was a very good value. I had my standard, the Pork Plate with slaw and potato salad. The serving of chopped pork was generous, but was too dry and over seasoned for my taste. The slaw was fine but unexceptional. The $12.56 price on the menu was a reasonable value, however after we paid we found out that we were charged $13.50. It turns out that the printed menus Wilber's provides in the restaurant don't reflect their latest prices on Toast. Our server did not mention anything about price discrepancies. The difference in prices doesn't seem like they are just rolling in the sales tax to the orders either. This is absolutely unacceptable and reflects a huge failure in judgement by the management and owner. Shame on you. All in all, our experience rates a four-star review. However, when taking the price discrepancies into account, Wilber's earns a 3-star review and that is generous. Restaurants need to accurately advertise their prices to their Customers, whether dining in or getting take out.

His wife and cofounder Gerri has kept the business cooking (pun intended). It's still among the best whole hog BBQ I've ever eaten - and I've eaten a lot. Grady's pork is amazing, especially topped with slaw and their Eastern NC sauce. The sides are incredible. The desserts look wonderful (have never been able to find room, but one of these days...). Prices are reasonable (but be warned: this is a cash-only place). If you're on the way to the beach, go to Grady's. If you're coming back from the beach, go to Grady's. If you're within 100 miles, go to Grady's. Heck, if you're anywhere on the East Coast, go to Grady's. It's that good!

I usually make it my business to graciously tip the chef and graciously tip the server. I did not tip the chef anything because he took his own tip today. Not sure how they generally tip in Goldsboro NC but the waitress/server was super shocked by receiving a 25% gratuity. I've never had two strong Mai Tai for $9.00 each. Never have I been to a Hibachi place, and I have been to a ton, and seen so much teriyaki sauce used on literally everything. Again, who douses the veggies in teriyaki sauce. I've never had such bad food at a hibachi restaurant. I mean the cook could have asked if we wanted teriyaki sauce. Nothing we ordered was teriyaki. Service, young waiter, took our drink order, brought them out and the soup and salad. Had I not asked about dressings I would have got ginger, which I'm not a fan of. When all was done and the waiter asked us how everything was. We told him that everything was covered in teriyaki and we didn't order any teriyaki. Anyways, basically two full plates taken home, mainly because we paid for them, but never again. Seriously, who covers the veggies (zucchini, onions, mushrooms) in 100% teriyaki sauce. Overall everything was just teriyaki flavored and no where close to the other hibachi restaurants we go to.
