Nice to have a few choices within walking distance of many of the local hotels. First time in so this is either a newer place or strangely overlooked. The reviews had me questioning it but then I read the complaints and gave it a try. Glad I did. The cooking style of the seafood is not my style so that was not an option but the Asian items on the menu caught my eye. The Captial is located in a strip mall and plenty of parking is available if you drive. Once entering the decor is very neat and interesting. Sort of beach cross with modern cross with Asian influences. Interesting. I eat at the bar so I don't tie up a table s they were busy. Good flow and the bar was wide open. I had the black garlic what ever. This was my second try of this style. The host was very informative and gave very sound advice on the menu. The item was delicious. Very filling and one's unable to eat it all. I also had a delicious Old Fashion to go with it. Maybe not a common pairing but delicious nonetheless. Cute atmosphere but pricy and the food was so salty it was almost inedible. Server was sweet but not as attentive as I'd like, but to each their own. Super strange, but the water was AWFUL. I stayed close by and was pleasantly surprised when this place came up on my search results. I ordered the shrimp pho which had lots of noodles and shrimp included. They brought the spice rack which I definitely took advantage of. The broth had a nice flavor and almost made me fill up sipping on it before finishing my pho but I was persistent and had a little juice leftover. We arrived at Capital Seafood & Noodle Bar in Smithfield shortly before 7:30 PM and were able to choose our own table since the restaurant wasn't busy. After sitting down, it took about 10 minutes for our server to acknowledge us and take our drink order, two Dr Peppers and a strawberry margarita with sugar on the rim. We also placed our food order at that time, each of us selecting a different combo from the "Your Catch Combo" seafood boil menu. Drinks arrived around 15 minutes later, the sodas first, and then my margarita, which unfortunately came with salt instead of sugar on the rim. I didn't send it back but avoided the rim altogether. It took nearly 30 minutes for our food to come out, and I had already noticed our three seafood boil orders sitting on the counter for about 7 minutes before they were finally brought over. When our food arrived, the server asked if I wanted water, noting that people who drink alcohol usually do, I said yes, but the water didn't come until 20 minutes later. The boils were okay, though I was surprised the potato and corn weren't cut, just large whole pieces. I asked for a knife, which came as part of a plastic cutlery set 10 minutes later, still wrapped, and with my hands messy from eating, I just bit into the potato. The overall experience was underwhelming due to the lack of attentiveness from our server, especially given the slow pace and how empty the restaurant was. It even took another 15 minutes to receive our check. While the spice level was as requested, the boil itself lacked flavor, and we ended up spending two hours there for what felt like an unnecessarily drawn-out experience. read more

We went to Smithfield for an event at the local college auditorium. Being raised in North Myrtle Beach, SC , I know my seafood. The menu was extensive. I would advise diners to research it before going because there are lots of possible decisions to be made in order to assure you get the dining experience that will make you happy. It was a cute place with a comfortable atmosphere. The background music provided a cool vibe; and despite the crowd, it wasn't too loud. Our adorable waiter was attentive and not put off by our many questions. The first one was involving the slaw. We asked whether they made it in house. He came back with the answer that it was. Then we asked whether it was chopped or shredded, which is important to us. He came back with the answer that it was shredded, which is what we would have preferred. Unfortunately, it was chopped but we carried on. The ONLY negative was the slaw. It didn't taste bad, but we were charged an additional $3.50 for a 4oz container of it. Slaw should be included with seafood baskets/dishes with patrons having the opportunity to turn it down, in this patron's opinion. My partner had a shrimp, flounder, oyster basket. The flounder was okay, the oysters didn't surprise us with their small size, but the shrimp impressed. We know how to sense that bit of freshness that comes from the sea and it was there. I had the Gumbo. Although it states on the menu that this was a cup, this was a full on bowl. I hope they made it there! It had what appeared to be fresh okra, celery, tomato, onions, sausage and shrimp and a Bay Leaf. Again, the shrimp was outstanding. Quality was there! Every bit worth the price paid which I think was $11.99. The fries that came with hubbies basket were 7/10 and were labeled Cajun on the menu. Perhaps they forgot to shake that onto them on this occasion. No biggie to us. I'm hoping to enjoy them again in the air fryer tonight with my own seasoning. I can't say enough wonderful things about our server. I'm remiss for not remembering his name. He was on time, on point, and treated us like beloved regulars. Just for his employers, he was young, perhaps Of Latino descent, and I believe his first name started with the silent J, but I don't think it was Juan. If and when we are back in Smithfield for dinner, I would like to try one of their Steam Pot Meals. They looked delicious and everyone around us seemed to be enjoying themselves. I was served rotten food. It was expired or something. I've never tasted something so horrible. I asked the waitress to take it back. She did and offered to bring me something new. But then came back to the table and pointed at the menu were it said "all food and drink sales are final. No refunds." Now I get that if I didn't "like it" but it wasn't that. It was ROTTEN!!! At last there is a restaurant serving Vietnamese noodles in this small town Smithfield! I tried their House special beef Pho (noodle soup) last night and it was pretty authentically savory and tasty. My daughter had their appetizer Capital Bun and surprisingly it was very tasty delicious! Today I went back and tried their spicy noodle soup (Bun Bo Hue). Do not go to this place if you have any allergies!!Called this restaurant to see if they could accommodate my allergy to red meat and dairy thanks to alpha gal. The girl who answered the phone didn't know but while she asked the manager they were both laughing and making fun of my allergy. And there is nothing fun about anaphylaxis and you're throat closing. They then told me I could order the chicken pho and be fine but after I asked more questions I found out they use beef broth... which is red meat.
