They showed up at her house late in the evening (~8:30 or so), uninvited and unexpected. They told her that they were sent to clear her driveway. Only after they had shoveled it did they tell her that she owed them more than $1000. They didn't even shovel the whole driveway. Should she have asked about the cost beforehand? Yes, of course. But she's very elderly, and didn't think to. In past storms, neighbors have come to shovel her drive without being asked and refused to take any payment. She was afraid not to pay them, because no one else was there at the time and there were two big, young guys demanding money. I called several times to try to talk to them / get them to reduce the amount, but no one would return my call. Avoid these folks like the plague.
