The night before the job, I asked Elias if they could complete the difficult job by noon on the day of, and he obliged. His crew showed up at 7:30am and worked non-stop until noon, finishing a very difficult job on time. It was an exceptionally hot day (sunny and 90 F but with the humidity felt warmer), but they kept going. Overall, they were very courteous, respectful, and competent. A part of a tree fell in my back yard, fortunately not damaging my or my neighbors' houses, but filling the back yard with pieces of tree. I called Ax Tree Services, and Elias called me back right away. He gave me an estimate the same day and sent out a crew out the next day. They cleaned up the fallen branch, trimmed that tree back, cut off the dead part of another tree on the property, and trimmed a third tree that had been damaged by falling limbs. I had a tall poplar tree with a thick base. The branches were really extended and sometimes falling very close to the house. I reached out to Ax Tree Services to assess the tree and provide a quote. Elias the owner responded back immediately and was over to my place very quickly. I also wanted to trim the branches of a large maple tree (see pictures) and remove a medium sized line tree. The price provided was very competitive and they were able to get started on the project the same week. I could not be happier with the work done by this company. They came over with lots of equipment and close to ten workers. Every task was performed with care and proficiency with safety in mind. The workers were incredible and did an amazing job. They got rid of all the debris and ground down the stump. The wood chips were spread out as mulch. They even lay grass seeds in the areas where the grass was a bit disturbed due to the tree removal. Elias and his team were wonderful. He was responsive to our original inquiry and then, kept in close touch as we navigated a permit requirement with the city of Alexandria. Background-- this was our third try to get a large maple tree removed from our townhouse backyard. In order to get a permit, we needed to pay the city, and have Elias update his insurance to include the city. Elias was wonderful at each turn. On the day of the tree removal, the team was a little late, but it didn't matter. They got the tree out without issue and did such a great with grinding it out and cleaning it up after. Beyond that, their team cleaned up the neighboring yards as well. The team also trimmed two neighbor's trees as well. I couldn't recommend Elias and Ax Tree more. read more

Found ax tree services on yelp. Got multiple quotes from different companies. Ax tree services replied first and came to my house that first day to give me and estimate. They were the more affordable company to help get my y'all tree down. They also provided their license and insurance upon request. I was worried about how they were going to get there tree down which was on the corner of my house. Also it was close to the power line going to the house. They came assessed and was able to handle the job with no problems. After the tree was down they cleaned up any debris that was left and took the tree away. We had a giant, very dead oak tree in a very difficult to access location in our backyard. Ax Tree Services was extremely prompt in coming to our property to assess, provided a very reasonable quote, and had very good reviews, so we went with them. Those reviews were spot on. The entire team was friendly, considerate and extremely professional. They did a really, really good job taking that massive tree down and getting it off our property without damaging anything. For example, where flower garden rock borders were in the way of equipment that needed to come through, they carefully and meticulously moved the rocks and then replaced them once they were done. Honestly, the yard looked way better after they left. I can't say enough nice things and will definitely use them in the future (we have a LOT of trees). read more

Ax Tree Services butchered my 100 year-old elm tree. An arborist who inspected the damage said it was the worst work he'd seen in his 24 year career, he couldn't believe Ax was licensed, and the tree may die as a result. My neighbor hired Ax to cut the branches from my tree that overhung his yard. Ax did the work without my permission. They cut over my property line, and hacked off so many large, thick branches that the tree may not survive. They didn't cut the branches close to the trunk of the tree, as any competent tree surgeon would. They also left a limb cut down the middle, exposing it to rot. It's going to cost me $900 just to have the cuts redone properly, but even then, Ax may have killed my tree. Ax also broke my fence when they dropped one of the branches by accident. I asked them repeatedly to fix it, and they never did. These people are clowns. Do NOT hire, unless you want them to kill your tree. read more

The job was to remove a very large old tree in my backyard. The owner gave me a quote of $3800 which he changed to $4500 when they got there. He told me it was because they had to get a crane. As they were working, I heard a large crash on my roof. I asked for a photo of the damage and he sent me a picture of a tiny little hole. The owner then asked me if I would pay for half of what it cost to repair my roof! I said that was crazy. They quickly got to work and patched it up. Fast forward several months later, I'm having a home inspection and the inspector discovers that two large beams that frame my roof are dangerously splitting. I contacted Elias and he ignored my texts and phone calls. I contacted their insurance company who offered a pittance to me. I would give Ax 6 stars if I could. To be honest I was a little nervous because their price to remove my large oak tree was lower than everyone else's, but I could not be more happy with the quality of work and the level of service. I got 5 bids on the job and theirs was by far the lowest. Elias was super responsive, he showed up the same day I called to give me an estimate, and he was able to get the job done a few days later (other companies were 30+ days out). The crew was amazing, the tree was entangled with 6 of my neighbors' power lines and they managed the whole thing without a hitch. They ground the stump completely (while other companies said they couldn't grind too close to a metal post that was stuck in the tree) and cleaned up thoroughly afterward. They even cut some of the logs to fit my fire pit! Seriously if you want to save money and get exemplary service don't even bother looking anywhere else. read more

After looking at part of my yard for a year and trying to decide what to do, I started calling landscaping companies. Ax Tree and Landscaping Services, of course, was one of the companies I called based on their high ratings. Mr. Ortega came on a Saturday morning provided an estimate and I hired him based on the price and his attitude which is very important to me. He was polite and professional. His team arrived yesterday and quickly got to work. They removed the landscaping material, salvaged rubber mulch and placed it on another garden near the house, removed pieces of lumber that had been placed in the ground with rebar over 15 years ago, dig up the hostas and replanted where I had asked. His team proceeded to dig up and remove roots from a garden that was a mess before we moved into the home over 15 years ago. Then they laid topsoil, sod and watered the area. (See before and after photos) I am more than pleased as his team went above and beyond by repairing a place in the lawn that had roots above ground where a tree had been removed last year.
