I was surprised when I saw the bad reviews for the MUSC dental clinic. I've gone here for years. Sure, the wait time is longer but the cost is also half of what it is in the private practice. Moreover, the students are extremely attentive. I couldn't wait for a crown after a root canal so I went to a private practice dentist who said that the notes he received from my MUSC endodontist resident(?) were the most extensive he'd seen in a long time. read more

Attending student and doctor saw infections in my sinus cavity on tooth that had to be removed. Verbally said to me what it was and would not give an antibiotic to clear the infection. They scheduled a bone exam instead for more money. I hope God close them down for greed!!! Handle everyone involved God as you said they are your children so please handle ALL THE DECEPTION PERMENTALY!!! SO SAD THE SONG!!! read more

it took a very longtime to get my implants. some appointments to just look and see how things were going. The max plus time between each procedure. the school is closed for holidays, just like all schools. if your student isn't there, you are out of luck. read more

January 2026: Over the past two years, I have had many procedures done at the Faculty Dental Practice. A few went well but the two bridges have caused issues. The upper bridge has a click when chewing and the bottom one feels large in the mouth and rubs my tongue causing soreness. Sadly, the follow up at the Faculty clinic is unacceptable. It is next to impossible to follow up with your dentist in a timely manner. You will wait months dealing with issues and then when seen you feel rushed and will feel that the dentist does not listen and has little concern for your discomfort. Prices at the Faculty Clinic are in line with most dental practices so save yourself a great deal of pain, discomfort, and frustration. Find yourself a good dentist in the community. read more

I've been a patient a MUSC's Dental Faculty Practice for years. I've had a good experience and feel that because the dentists in the practice are also on the faculty of a medical university that they are clinically on top of their game. I have never had to wait long and all of the hygienists I have worked with have been very pleasant and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this practice. read more

I agree with other reviewers ....they charge without warning. This is a big business. They make big money on consultations and x-rays and so many people get screened and approved. If you decline treatments when you find out how much it will be you still get charged for the consultation and won't even get your x-rays that you already paid for on the first visit. I recently switched into this practice as mine originally closed down, plus being a graduate student it's so close and convenient. The staff are very friendly and easy to schedule with, they make sure you're reminded multIple times of your appointment. Sometimes if you get lucky they'll call you to get you in earlier! I had a great experience having my cleaning done, the hygienist and dentist were both very friendly and considerate. Unfortunately, I had to get a crown done at the adventure to "you need to floss more world," but I now have a fancy piece of gold in my mouth and can probably pay off a significant chunk of loan debt in the distant future with it. 10/10 would return again, mostly because I have to get a filling done... read more

I am scheduled for heart surgery on December 30. I need some dental work done so called MUSC Dental Clinic since that way everything would be in house. I called several times and they hung up on me each time. So frustrating. I wish I could give them ZERO stars, their service is that terrible. read more

Not worth going to. Periodontics is small and less then helpful. Only God can help them when they get to the real world.

They are slow, and charge without warning. My initial routine visit, while very thorough, took over 2 hours and I had to come back to finish, 3 hours total!! Admittedly I had tartar buildup (like everyone), but the same thing done at other places I have been finished for initial visit in 1 hour. I have pretty good teeth with minimal work done (1 small cavity in 4 decades, besides routine cleanings), so it's not like they were falling out. Then, to make it worse, they inform me that I owe $57. I was explicitly told the visit would be entirely covered by insurance. That is why I pay a ridiculous amount for dental insurance. I am told it was for extra work to break up tartar. That is fine, but I believe they should ask me for consent for the additional charge on this elective work. On the positive side, the facilities are very nice, hygienist was friendly (dentist was present for 30 seconds of those 3 hrs), and conveniently located, for me at least.
