I took mi hermana here yesterday for her birthday and we loved it. It was an impromptu booking for the 7pm so they allowed us to book in person when the website portal closed. Our instructor was Kirsten and she did a phenomenal job. She was funny, taught at a good pace and assisted us when needed. TJ/Tah was also great she was mending the food station at first and helped me pick out the mozzarella sticks, curly fries, fruit punch and strawberry ginger lemonade-everything was good. The pricing was a bit higher for portion size on some things chicken and you can make subs on the sampler which i wanted but we kept it moving. It was only a few us of us in there ( maybe because it's a Monday?) but I liked it that way it was a good vibe. read more

Thank you Keya and the rest of the staff at Muse Paintbar. They were warm and welcoming. I was looking for an activity that my granddaughter's and I would enjoy. They are both very artistic and I thought that Muse Paintbar would be the perfect activity. Keya took us step by step: mixing colors, painting one section at a time, adding details to the painting. This process assured that each of us could be successful at our project. She circled the room to give us individual advice on our painting. She was the sweetest and a fabulous artist. I did take off one star, because we were not allowed to use their bathroom. If you are paying $40 a ticket, there should be a bathroom on the premises. Secondly, I had attended an evening event a year ago and you got one drink ticket and some snacks with your ticket. Today, you had to pay for any beverages or snacks, even a soda or water. So, the teachers were warm, friendly, and knowledgeable. The space was well set up and you were given plenty of brushes and paints. Took my mom painting for her birthday! We had came here before and were happy with the outcome of the first time being here. This experience was a little more tougher to paint but we had an amazing time as usual here! The atmosphere is artistic and clean! Love the small bar they have for snack and such! The lemonade was a bit too sweet for my taste but it was good! The chips and guacamole were pretty good as well. Overall being here is fun and is well worth it! The pandemic has brought out my artistic side. I draw and paint more than ever. So when I saw online their classes, i signed up for the Starry Eiffel tower. Their website has a lot of classes with a photo of what painting the class will be doing. The price at first was $39. The day of the class price dropped to $25. I suggest getting their early like 30 minutes. To unwind, get some bites etc. I loved that they allowed me to bring in my poke bowl. They do offer wine , but I was already fueling up on water. The place is spacious and has a cute set up. Marjan was our instructor and was great. She explained things slowly and encouraged us every step of the way. I thought this would be a fast art class , but no. It took 2 hours. No rush. Im definitely coming back, and this place is a great idea for a date night. I had a really good time at my first paint party. My party of nine were seated near each other at two tables, everything was set up for our painting experience, and we didn't have to do any clean up at the end! I'm giving four stars over five because for all that the instructor was energetic, descriptive, and obviously talented, I couldn't see her painting. The painting class set up each reserved party before we got there. We were placed in a corner. I had expected the instructor to turn her easel or painting to us frequently so we could all see what she was describing. She did that a little, but I often had to stand up and walk ten feet away to follow along. Many in my party struggled and our birthday girl called out to the instructor for some clarifications. Again, a good instructor, but the room had corners and mostly, I was watching the inteuctor's back. I would do it again, but request to be placed in a better location in the studio. The food was and the drinks were fine (not gourmet or anything, but solid enough nibbles for sharing and libations for drinking). My painting came out okay, and I liked mixing acrylic colors and using different brushes. read more

I have been to Muse 3x and enjoyed all sessions. The instructors are GREAT, patient, and fun. One of them sang along with the DJ. They make good use of their time and ensure, no one is lagging. The only cons are: tables are small so you are crammed in tight spaces and the brushes are dated. Please keep in mind, parking at Gaithersburg Rio is a scarcity therefore, plan ahead and allow ample time for stalking departing customers. LOL! Muse offers some "bar food" but it's average; after all, you don't come here for the food. Overall, I highly recommend and the prices are on point. Hint: wait till the last minute to book, as prices decrease as it's nearing your session. read more

Have the pleasure of attending a paint and sip this past Friday with my girlfriends. We were lucky to be the only ones there. It was an amazing experience. The instructor, Erica, was amazing and patient with us. I unfortunately don't remember the bartenders name, but she was amazing and the prices for drinks and snacks were definitely reasonable. Had a really good time would definitely recommend ! I can't wait to go back again. One thing to note, however is the paint does not come out of your clothes if you don't get it out as soon as it happens, so you may want to keep that in mind. read more

My husband and I had a date night here recently and had Joe as our artist. His laugh/giggle made my night! Fast forward and I later saw his art for sale and he's very talented. The canvas were organized when we arrived with our names displayed at our seats. The explanation of how things worked was thorough and we really enjoyed ourselves. My husband had zero painting experience and easily followed along. My only criticism was the amount of time we had for breaks. It made the painting go longer than it had to, but I also completely understand that not everyone moved as fast as we did. All and all a great experience. Would recommend to others! read more

We were here for my niece's birthday party. I was impressed the moment we walked in and had to pause to soak it all in. The place was full of dazzling art work; and the vast array of easels alone would be enough to impress. The ambiance felt so out of ordinary and artsy, certainly very conducive to "musing"! The big public painting area is at the front, with 2 smaller private painting rooms adjacent to it. The rooms are partitioned using glass panels, so the entire place felt very big and open. In the back is the bar that serves wine and beer which obviously we did not get to utilize for the birthday party. It's been decades since I painted, but that's not an issue at all because we were given all kinds of help. The subject was already chosen by my niece and we were provided step by step group instructions from start to finish. There's also optional LED light ($5 fee) behind the canvas to help project the outline of the intended painting, There were multiple breaks during the session to allow for the paint to dry before applying another layer. We used these breaks to celebrate my niece's birthday party with food, drink and cake. BTW, it appeared it was not part of the deal for Muse Paintbar to orchestrate birthday parties, but the place does provide a table where we can place the food and drink. I could also observe that the instructor did not factor in the birthday festivities in his plan. But that wasn't an issue at all, he simply extended the break so we could finish our food. All in all, it was a very refreshing and enjoyable outside-of-the-box experience for me. It was my first time ever with acrylic paint. Everyone had a great time, and each brought home a very personalized souvenir!! read more

I decided to take my daughter on a little outing to do something fun. She decided she wanted to go painting so, I thought this would be a great idea. We arrived on a Wednesday evening and were greeting by our painting instructor. She was a very nice young lady who mentioned she was saving up to by her girlfriend a wedding ring! But we were advised of the room we were going to be paiting in and shown to our designated area. At this time, there were an optional mask mandate, but we kept ours on. We were in a room with bout 10 other couples. Before we got started, we ordered a couple of appetizers, truffle french fries with siracha ketchup and mozzarella sticks and a bottle of Sprite. To me the food was a bit pricey. So I advised the kiddo, this is just a snack, not dinner! Our food didn't take very long to arrive, but we both enjoyed our small bites! Our instructor began the class and we were off to to the races. I loved how energetic she was and how she would assist whenever you needed it. She was very helpful in describing how to make certain shapes and to help with your painting to come out well! You are allowed to deviate from the original painting as far as color choices as well. There are blow dryers to assist with drying the paintings fast to move on to next steps. Overall, this was a wonderful experience for myself and the kid! She enjoyed herself and asked to go back. I had so much fun, I would like to do this with my girlfriends as well as my "friend." Great date night option or even fun event for family and friends. And what better than to take home a piece of art to show for it. This was a fun experience!! read more

A group of colleagues that belong to my employer's association came out on a Friday night for a social outing. There was a total of 9 of us. Our session was scheduled for 7:30-10:00. Our painting was titled, "Jewel Sunset." When I first arrived, I was greeted by the friendly, Michelle. She told me the set up for our session. There is seating up to 6 per table. I liked that they had different size aprons. A bar is available to purchase appetizers, beer, or wine. Before I go further, let me make a disclaimer that I have type A personality. Before our event, I had read previous reviews and looked at photos and saw outlines imprinted on the canvas. I felt comfort in knowing that since I am a perfectionist and not very artistic. Of course, for our session this was not the case. Our session was free style. In addition, another challenge was mixing the colors. I would have preferred if that was pre-done. I was somewhat frustrated when I couldn't get a shade to turn out how I wanted. Also, the small plates that we used as a palette to mix the paint wasn't big enough. I had to use three. I'm not sure how everyone else was able to use only one small plate. Additionally, we had five brushes and a dipping cup to clean our brushes. We also had paper towels to wipe off excess paint at each of our station. I was constantly going to the sink to wash off my brushes because the paint was still on the brushes as I mixed new colors. What should have been fun experience was a bit stressful given that I am Type A. Throughout our session, I wanted to throw in the towel and give up, but I stuck with it. Occasionally I got help from Michelle. She made the experience better. She was helpful and outgoing. She also took orders at the bar. Our instructor (I forgot her name) who led the class had a sense of humor, was social, and knowledgeable in explaining each step. I will say I thought my painting turned out pretty nice, all things considered. Because of my OCD, I am not sure if I would return again, but that's just me. If the paint was pre-mixed, and the outline was imprinted on the canvas that would have made my experience more enjoyable. read more

Came here on a date night with spouse. The class started over 30 minutes late, and the kitchen was closed, so we were starving from 7pm-10pm. We had a babysitter, so we had to leave at 9:45pm, *before* the class ended. Others customers also left before it ended. Our paintings are so ugly, I wouldn't hang them in my bathroom. The teacher was good, funny sense of humor and personable. The stools are very uncomfortable, after 2 1/2 hours they become painful. One customer went rogue and painted a peace sign in the first 5 minutes then just hung out with her friends. It was very hard to hear the teacher as her microphone was broke. There's music playing which doesn't help you hear instructions. Someone asked the teacher to turn off the music and the teacher was offended and made a comment about the awkward silence, and turned it back on. Someone reached out to me regarding my concerns and offered a $10 voucher towards our next visit, but since this barely covers the cost of 1 drink, I won't be using it. Had a wonderful Galentines Day! While no great painter myself, it is such a relaxed atmosphere and the staff very helpful/supportive as you try to make art. I appreciated the set up - you have everything you need right at your station and the staff come around to ensure you're having a good time/answer questions on ensuring you get the artwork you want. I was concerned we'd be stuck in a strict class setting only painting i.e. no talking with your friends - but there's plenty of downtime in between phases of the painting to chat and see how your friends are faring. Would also recommend going on a off peak night if you want a chiller atmosphere. The final portrait I wouldn't say is something I plan to keep, but again I was there for friends, socializing and a way to have fun that didn't involve a screen. Where to start! I never really had any interest in art or anything creative growing up. I was skeptical when coming here to surprise my wife with a fun activity for a date night, especially when it was stated that it would take 2.5 hours or so. In my mind, I was thinking, "how could I sit and paint for 2.5 hours when I could barely sit 15 minutes for a meal?" However, I really enjoyed my time here! We went here and were immediately greeted with bright smiles and laughter. Jonathan was bubbly and bright and he was very personable, which made the whole process very relaxing as if we had been there for quite some time and got to know the staff. He also walked around during the public class and helped anyone who needed help in the process. In my case, I didn't know how to hold a paint brush. That goes to show you how much of a newbie I was. As for the class, we had Nicole as our teacher and she was awesome! She was so entertaining and full of energy and provided a lot of side comments that made the time go by really quickly. It was like having an art teacher doing stand up comedy. Not only was I able to sit through the class, but before I knew it, the class was over and the painting was done. I was a bit sad for it to all end because I was a having fun just being there. I really thought I was going to be the first ever failure in the history of painting, but I am proud of the outcome of my painting. Even though my painting looked different from everyone else's - for better or for worse - the process of coming here and trying this definitely was worth the money. I had fun here. Very spacious and nice inside. A kid party was taking place in the room next door, which was separated by see-through windows and a glass door. My group did an elephant painting, and everyone's paintings came out nice, but a handful of us felt like the instructor went too quickly for us to follow along. Luckily, a couple of employees were walking around to help us. I prefer this place over Merlot's in DC because it's more spacious, and there are employees walking around to help you. However, I prefer Merlot's over this place when it comes to the instructor's easy-to-follow tempo. Last but not least, the snacks were below average. The bruschetta and chicken Parmesan were both a bit salty. The bruschetta was also kind of vinegar-y. The beer selection was ok. The wine list on the wall was very short. I initially gave them full stars, but now that I think of it, the food wasn't great and my friend struggled to see the instructor due to the placement of our of the chairs and tables. I really should give this 3 stars. The air was off on a warm day, the menu was expensive and limited. BUT - covid, indoor classes AND I like to think we are supporting local artists in the process. (Some of the works on display were amazing and for sale!) I came in July with friends, we laughed, we drank, we painted! We got a late start so it was our fault when we were tiny bit rushed at the end. Having never really ever attempted anything other than some home stenciling it was fun and I learned a lot. The best part was seeing so many different versions of the same painting! (And the inspiration to try more at home!) As always I wish I had taken more photos of the interior to share, but I'm not a social media person so I often forget to do that. The price is reasonable overall, since the food and drink is optional and possibly not that far above market for the venue type and the central location (the Rio)! I would give one star, but the last time we were here we had Vanessa as an instructor and it was a pleasant time. Look, this place costs 45$ a person. With that, I expect to be instructed properly. I'm sitting in my class now still as I write this review because how terrible my instructor is. She is literally talking to herself and not giving us any guidance at all. I'm not going to name any names on who the instructor was, but our class was on 5/5/18 at 7:30 pm for anyone who wants to do any "constructive criticism" in mgmt at Muse. She babbled off on tangents for so long the first half of the class, that it was OBVIOUS that she was on super speed overdrive at the end to try to make the time. Literally no one could follow her. She was calling out different colors that weren't even on the list of colors, different brushes that what we needed to use, I could go on and on. The worst part was, we could barely here her to begin with !! I will NOT be returning to Muse, and will steer everyone that asks about my experience away. Bring a painting with a Twist store to the area !! P.S. TURN THE HEAT OFF. It was almost 80 outside and everyone at my table was on fire. Just to top off this terrible night. read more

I visited Muse for a friend's birthday and it didn't disappoint. It was my first time doing a paint and sip and I was a little nervous about my painting skills. Vanessa and Claire, our instructors, were very helpful and came around to help as we painted. Vanessa gave step by step, easy to follow directions and I think my painting turned out well. They were both very encouraging and gently offered suggestions without being judgmental. The service was great! They had a good selection of small bites and drinks, and water was provided for free. The class itself was $40 and it would've been nice if a complimentary drink was included in that because I ended up spending $20 on only two drinks. I attended a class that included LED lights so maybe that's why it was on the pricier side. All in all, Muse is a great place to bond with friends and have a few good laughs. I went here a few days ago with a small group of friends. The place is really aesthetically pleasing on the Inside. I was in awe of all of the paintings and how beautiful, grungy, yet put together everything was. We had our own table and were able to safely social distance from other groups. They had a bar and small bites but we had just came from dinner so we didn't order anything. The teacher was very experienced and organized, she walked us through all of the steps and what colors and brushes to use. She also encouraged us to embrace our creative sides and put our own spin on our paintings which I liked. I was able to create a painting that I was pleased with and looked wayyy better than I could've imagined with my little-to-no artistic skills. The music was very modern with a good mix for everyone. I came here with a friend to attend an evening class. This is a large place and I like that they have assigned seating so if you book with a big group, you know you'll all be sitting together. I don't think there are any bad seats because the instructor will hold his/her painting up for everyone to see. In addition, if there is a detailed part they take a fresh canvas and paint it large so you can see it "zoomed in." Our instructor was Anne and she was truly great. She basically put on a show for three hours in addition to carefully teaching the painting at a nice slow pace. Two reasons for docking a star: 1) This was an evening session with adults, the majority of whom were drinking and trying to have adult fun. However, one couple paid for two seats but brought their two small children along with them. When the kids weren't crying, running around, bumping into me, and generally being a nuisance, the parents were trying to actively engage them in "helping" with the painting. They weren't the only people who brought small children. Muse offers afternoon, kid-friendly sessions so I wish they could ban kids from the evening classes, or at least gently suggest evening painters get a babysitter. 2) The refreshments are a bit overpriced - we had two snacks, two glasses of wine, and a bottle of wine, and the total was over $80 with tip. I have tried several other "paint and sip" places and this is by far the best. I will definitely return when I have family in town. read more

I had a lot of fun here on a date. Naturally, I was hyper focused on painting and should have been talking more with my date. However, a great place with friendly staff. The food is pricier but this is a place you need to plan to go to. You do need to keep your mask on while painting but it was nicely spaced out, easy to hear/see the instructor, and they were attentive to your work and, importantly, supportive of you and your improvisations in my case. it was a full house so you do need to book ahead.
