I booked an appt online. My kiddo and I showed up for our appt, and were greeted by Julia. I gave her my name and she proceeded to go on and on about how long my name was and she couldn't pronounce it, blah, blah. blah . . . all with my child present, who shares the same last name. Including cultural competency in your business approach, especially when you live in the most diverse city in the nation should be a given. But Julia didn't get the memo. Needless to say, this is not the vibe we wanted to start our art session with. I noticed she was abrasive in her communication with one of the employees, a woman of color. As a fellow woman of color, I was saddened to see this. Meg, another employee, had a rude tone when she responded to my inquiry about a ceramic animal. Odd, as this is quite literally her job. I also witnessed Meredith being short and dry with a Latino family. They appeared to be kind and accommodating with other families, none of which were people of color. I waited to give Julia feedback until the end of our session. She defended her actions despite me explaining that it's not about intent, but impact. She never apologized. I explained how damaging it can be to treat someone's name as she did ours, which is tied to both identity and heritage, and pointed out how damaging this can be to a small child during their formative years (such as my daughter). She still didn't apologize. Please do better. I will not be returning. read more

There are a ton of pottery pieces to choose from, it's hard to choose just one. You choose your type of paint--one you can take home the same day or you can get it glazed fired; that option takes a few days or longer. We've opted for the take-home-same-day but definitely want to try the glazed at some point. There are sodas and juices for purchase and they give you complimentary popcorn, which my son loves. We've walked in both times, once with three others, and we were seated right away. The second time was a rainy day and it was pretty full, but they were able to seat us. Both times we went were when MCPS schools were closed and I imagine it gets even more crowded on the weekends, so it's probably a good idea to make a reservation. We will definitely visit again and I highly recommend this place! read more

My 6yr old daughter and I had a great time painting pottery for a few hours not held her attention and she did a great job on the pieces. Was it inexpensive? Nope. But it was a fun date with her where we could chat and enjoy something together and that made it worth it. The staff was so nice and they have a good array of options to paint. They offer popcorn to munch which was a nice perk. They didn't seem to care how long we were there. They do take reservations so if you don't want to find yourself waiting for a table... make a reservation. We will be back. read more

Came here a few times with the kiddos and now I want to come by myself.. LOL Pro's -The kids had a great time and we spent about 1.5 hours painting and decorating our pottery pieces -Great rainy day option for the kiddos -Space is fun and clean! -I personally like the paint guide for how much to squirt out for a background or detail. No paint wasted. :-) -Lot's of pottery pieces to choose from. i.e. piggybanks, cups, plates, animals, trinkets, mugs etc. -Lively kid friendly music playing while you paint/decorate -Lot's of stencils and tools to use. I got a few ideas from the sample art around the room -Other types of art also available: fused glass, canvas painting, wood art -Offers summer camps for the kids, classes, events, and parties -Staff is always friendly and informative -Quick turn around time for firing the pottery pieces up (1 week or less depending how busy they are). You get a text notification when it is ready for pick up Con's -A bit expensive, all pottery pieces that I saw were at least $30+. I didn't know they had a sale section until I overheard someone else being shown the small section. -Would love if they offer a wine night with art. The service at the Amazing Art Studio is always top notch! I cannot recommend this business highly enough. The manager clearly cares deeply about the customer experience. On one occasion I brought my dog who sat quietly beneath my table the entire time and when I visited again they remembered her name and asked about her and the bowl that I'd made for her. Additionally the staff is knowledgeable and will readily help you to make a plan to achieve your creative vision. Please give this hidden gem a try. read more

I would've given this place five stars Because the associates that work there were so great and very attentive BUT THEN THE BOSS/ SUPERVISOR Julie/Judy came and started yelling at one of the lovely ladies. Totally changing the ambience of the entire studio. Thank God it was a light day and only two or three families were there at the time. She was insisting that the place was not clean up well before they left the night before and this poor girl was trying to explain that She did, and everything was immaculate when she left but boss lady was not having it. She started pointing to things and acting totally out of control and getting louder. Kudos to the young lady for holding it together. Shame on boss. Anger management class would do her well. Took my niece here for a fun activity and it was a great experience. I thought the prices were kinda expensive but considering that you're merely paying for the "canvas"/item and everything else is embedded in the price, it's actually not a bad deal. They don't give you a time limit. They are quick to provide extra materials if needed and unlimited popcorn. One thing I did wish was that the workers would provide some guidance on how/what to paint on the items. For a child or beginner, it would be pretty overwhelming. Luckily my niece was content just drawing rainbows on her letter A so that was fine but a little q&a before would be extremely helpful. Fun place to make ceramics but awful abusive management. The manager Julia takes a portion of the tips from employees even though it is illegal for the manager to take tips. I attempted to tip an employee and she told me to slide it under the table or else management (Julia) will take most of it. Last time I went to the studio, she was nasty, passive aggressive and complained to the other staff about customers. I asked why anyone would like to work there and I was informed a good portion of the staff was related to Julia. Would not recommend working there or going there with your family. read more

I have been to this studio a few times for the glazed pottery painting. The overall experience was great! This is also a family run business, which I love to support. The staff so far have been very friendly and helpful with running us through how to paint and answering our questions. They offer a variety of potential projects, but I have stuck to the glazed painting each time. I think the price is very reasonable assuming the piece, use of the studio, paints, and the firing that has to take place. The price includes you staying there all day if you want to just paint the whole day, which is great if working on a slower project. The firing for the glazed items takes up to a week, which they let you know about once ready to pick up. I look forward to coming back again soon! read more

Unpleasant customer service! I was going to use a GroupOn that was expiring soon. I called to schedule an appointment but the owner was out of town. I was told to email her to request an appointment and she would extend my voucher. I did as requested. In return I get an email from the owner Julya stating that there's some misunderstanding on my part and the extension was for one week. Nope, that's not what I was told. Really irritating for someone to tell you that when the message wasn't personally delivered by them!! She did suggest dates for me to come in this week. The Amazing Art Studio is a place to paint pottery and try glass fusion pieces. This is a great little find. First, let me rave about the owners. Julya and her husband are such lovely, friendly people. They are very warm, inviting, and patient. They also have a lot of passion for their store. They very lovingly pick out new art pieces for the studio and are big fans of Disney for your cartoon obsessed kid. Painting is a lot of fun and they will offer you assistance when asked. They also are constantly updating the store and trying to innovate with new pieces and activities. They will offer discounts during the summer breaks and school holidays. As a bonus, they are super dog friendly if your pup is tired on your walk around the lake, he can drop by for a treat and drink! Plus, it's located in up and coming Crowne so you will not get charged for parking nonsense. Recommended! read more

They have a variety of projects, not just a chain painting pottery place. You can do glass fusion, make candles, paint canvas, do mosaics and of course paint pottery. They even offer free popcorn and have snacks for purchase. You can come back multiple times to finish a project if needed for a low sitting fee. My daughter begs to go here every weekend. It is expensive, but no more than any other place that has pottery to paint. read more

I really enjoy coming in to paint the pottery with my kids, the staff is really helpful. They have a large selection with lots of options for both kids and adults My only complaint is the last couple times I have been there I have had to listen to somebody talk loud on the phone the entire time. We are there to paint and talk to each other, and not listen to personal phone calls the entire time. read more

We had a birthday party this morning at the Amazing Art Studio for our son. Attending were a a group of about 25 kindergarteners and their parents. The kids enjoyed painting, the parents had time to chat, and all in all everybody had a great time. The party room is nice, and the staff are friendly, well organized and knowledgeable. I had a good time when I was there with my co-workers for a team bonding night. The staff was knowledgeable and helped us to make good selections that suited our interests. However, when I went to pick up my piece today, I didn't receive any sort of friendly welcome. When receiving my piece, of which I am very proud and like very much, my work was criticized and I was told that I didn't do things right and that could do better next time. Been coming here for years and am so happy that I found out they moved and hadn't closed! Even better? They've added more adult-only hours so now you can either reserve time on Thursday or just come in on Friday night and paint in a totally kid-free environment. As per usual, they have a great, friendly staff who are so helpful. I recently found out about their silk screen stencils and am hooked! I also really like that there aren't any studio fees. While the prices look higher than other paint your own places up-front, I like knowing how much I'm going to be spending before I get to the register and not getting surprised with fees when I get there. This is our favorite place to go for a relaxing and fun outing!! They offer so many options for creating your own artwork that it's hard to decide what to do. The staff are helpful and the owners are really nice! She'll give you great tips and tricks while you work on your piece.
