The paint was pre-provided for us which was really nice and our instructor was also super friendly and attentive. I will say that you only get 2 hours per session which was enough for this simple painting but I could definitely see not being enough time for more complex landscape paintings. So, if finishing your painting here is important I would keep that in mind. Visited Muse Paint Bar in Assembly Row on a weekday night to create the lighthouse masterpiece. It is conveniently located next to a free 3-hour parking garage, which was a plus. They suggest arriving 30 mins early; personally, I didn't find it necessary. Went for a platter while waiting for the class to start, decent but not exceptional. I also got a glass of the sangria which was too sweet and lacked the desired strength - more like grape juice. While the food wasn't a highlight, the painting event was enjoyable. The instructor was nice and gave good instructions. In the past, for a corporate event with my company, we had a couple of instructors (one teaching and the other walking around and helping out). I could have used the additional support. However, not even VanGogh could have saved my painting due to my lack of artistic ability. I'm always looking for activities to do in Boston and Muse Paintbar was fantastic! I went for a double-date night and it was so fun because they have painting sessions for solo paintings and partner paintings! We spent the time doing two paintings side by side and they connected into a beautiful Starry Night. The teacher was great and took it slow enough for people of all paces to do. Abby and Connie were so supportive and walked us through every step, while giving us creative freedom to paint as we wished. They also had the most amazing throwback playlist so between the energy, the paint, the drinks, and the music, we had the most wonderful time. We had a great time. I would definitely recommend this experience if you're looking for a creative activity to do with friends or a significant other. I saw a family, people coming on their own, couples, and groups of friends there. I would say that it can add up, if you also choose to get snacks and drinks. Somebody got a fruity looking pitcher of an alcoholic beverage that looked good. I had prosecco and my bf had a cup of bottled sangria (a little sweet for him). Overall, the experience is run in an organized fashion that breaks down the paint mixing, and the painting process into manageable steps. Staff there were extremely friendly. I feel a little self conscious sharing the photo of us with our paintings, but just know there are nice photo opportunities if you're into that. My friend and I came here for our first paint bar experience. Staff was friendly and attentive. We were given exactly what we needed and no more but could ask if needed. Instructor was nice but difficult to understand at times given the mask and music. Instructions were good with a fair amount of time to chit chat in between. Drinks could only be served with food so we shared a charcuterie which included salami, nuts, cheese and olives. It was enough to hold us over for dinner afterwards. So I'm not very artistic - I can manage stick figures but the last time I attempted a landscape or still life was in grade school and my squirrel looked half-deformed. An utterly misshapen blob. The memory of it still haunts me. But I think I'm going to start dabbling in art, given how much fun and encouraging the class I took here was. It's extremely low-key and open to all levels of artistic talent/experience. Our instructor, Lucy, had the patience of a saint, and broke down the process of painting three pumpkins into totally manageable steps. She also gave us plenty of opportunity to roam about on our own. I have to say, not to toot my own horn, but my painting turned out pretty neat in the end, even though I was kind of nervous in the middle and ended up frantically painting every which way to cover up some mistakes. It was really cool to walk around and see other people's paintings at the end, loved the different color schemes and interpretations. One area for improvement is that I wished they made more of the individual paint colors more available as the class went on. I ran out of the white color quickly and had to steal some of my friend's. I think they may have mentioned it once, super fast, at the start of class where you could get more paint. For a non-painter, the brushes and paint seemed more than up for the job. They also provide aprons to protect your clothes. I didn't try any of the food (though it looked like your standard pub fare) but did get the spiced apple cider, which was kind of a fail. I sprang for the sugar crusted rim but it came in a paper cup and the sugar just melted down the sides, making it hard to pick up. Oh well. First world problems. read more

~Facility~ Location: A Cleanliness: B+ Spaciousness:A Somerville is an amazing location in general and Muse is located in a fairly easy part of town to get to. There is plenty of parking (even on a Friday night) and there are a good number of restaurants and other bars around. The facility itself is well kept. Obviously when talking about cleanliness I'm not going to talk about the paint room, because obviously there is going to be paint all around, but everything around the paint area seemed to be well kept. The bathrooms could have used a little attention but they weren't gross or anything. Overall it was a large, nice space that is kept well maintained and makes for a comfortable experience. ~Food &Beverage~ They have a decent selection of soft drinks, ciders, beers and wine. Its not a full service bar, but you shouldn't have any problem finding something you like. As for the food....eat before you come. Obviously its a bar you don't expect five star dinning, but the food should be edible. Their chicken fingers were so dry that I thought I was going to choke on them. The chicken wings weren't much better. The only thing somewhat decent was there spinach and feta pastry, which wasn't amazing, but it tasted good enough that if I came again I'd order it. ~The Painting Process~~ Instructor: A Supplies: B I do not have an artistic bone in my body so I have to contribute the fact I walked out the door with a gorgeous painting to the amazing step by step instructions but our instructor. Emily and her assistant (Amanda) were super sweet and made sure that we felt confident in what we were doing. They frequently came around to take care of any minor touches up we needed done. The only negative is towards the very end she started going a bit too fast. I'm not sure if that was a timing issue or what, but several people started messing up when she rushed through the last few steps. Like I said, it might have just been that we were running out of time. As for the supplies; the canvas we used were really nice and easy to work with but some of the paint brushes were used beyond functionality. I understand they are paint brushes, they are going to get dirty and most of them were fine, but someone had truly out lived their usefulness and needed to be replaced. I really enjoyed my time here. It was my first time here last night (12/31/19) and upon entering, I liked how tables were set up with seat assignments so I just found my spot and got seated. The assistant painter was really nice and showed me where to hang my coat and let me know about the free drink ticket, which I had no clue was even included in the cost. That was a pleasant surprise because it is not often that you get a complimentary drink. We started the painting a little after 5 as people were trickling in after the start time. This was fine by me so long as the painting finished on time because I had tight plans after. On the surface the painting looks very complicated. My boyfriend was very skeptical and didn't think he could complete it. Since I've done a few paint nights before, I know that it's very guided and step by step. However, since I've never been to Muse before, I didn't know how it'd go but, our instructor, Matt was great and really held it together to guide everyone through the painting which I honestly love. Despite his skepticism and lack of artistic experience, my boyfriend's painting came out great as well. Only drawback is the painting ran quite overtime and I'm not sure how to problem solve around this, but we left as soon as we finished our painting. Overall, it was good. However, it was not perfect. The girl who taught the class did not pay a lot of attention to everyone who was attending the class. I was in kind of the same place but back in Florida and the instructor was amazing, she came in and helped you to draw if you cannot do it by yourself. Unfortunately, here no one cares. She came to me and just said "You do not have to draw it if you are scared to do it. No one forcing you to do it." But what if I wanted to have those clouds on my drawing, I just needed I little help. I was a little disappointed by that answer. read more

Enjoyed my birthday here with friends. We painted a New England Lighthouse scene. The class was full. We started out with our 1 complimentary drink (wine- beer - or soda). After everyone found an apron and was seat we got started. The instructor started out very patient and slow. As time went on she went faster- almost to the point some people couldn't keep up. Paint was frequently replenished and another person walked around giving help as needed. It is a fun adult activity for even the most artistically challenged person. Everyone's painting is different and colors are mixed differently. This is a nice paint bar with friendly instructors. It's a great date night- girls night out or birthday celebration. read more

this is a great activity to do w/ friends or family, no matter the painting experience/expertise! essentially, you sign-up for a particular painting and someone will guide you step-by-step through the painting process. the instructions are very simple and helpful, so even if you have never painted before, you will be able do it. you are also allowed to use your creative freedom if you are a bit more skilled in painting. it's always fun to see how everyone's painting turns out at the end! you can also get food + drinks during the session. the staff here were super sweet and made our experience very comfortable. our group arrived a few minutes after the start of a class, but the staff helped us get situated and caught us up on the steps in no time. they also offered great tips, encouragement, and offered to take our photos. the only thing is that the painting choices are more on the cartoonish/animated style. from the big collection of paintings that they offered, i personally would've only chosen 2-3 to paint. this is just a note in case you are particular about your paintings. overall, i would recommend going here for a group activity. it's affordable, and you get a new painting afterwards! read more

I went with four of my friends to the Somerville location. The night we were there we were there to draw Santa's face with his beard and his hat. Our brushes were filthy and old. They were just stuck in water. They were just probably rinsed in water from the last session. So when you put the paint on them and went to rinse them, what happened with all the paint that was on the brush itself on the wooden part just kind of drained into the paintbrush, so yeah, colors would be muddy. the instructor was absolutely terrible. Everything she did was not what she was telling us to do her page. It looked completely different than everybody else's that were sitting around us. She wasn't specific with her instruction. She didn't walk around and try to like guide people .it was just a terrible experience we would none of us would ever go back again, and we certainly wouldn't recommend it read more

Not being much of an artist I was hesitant to come here and make some painting happen. If you have any doubts whatsoever- don't. The teacher guiding the lesson is super helpful and goes step by step showing what colors, brushes and strokes to use while painting. This makes the experience super easy and enjoyable and actually makes you feel like more of an artist :) Keep in mind you never have to completely copy step by step everything the teacher does, feel free to make your canvas as unique as possible, in the end of the lesson none of the paintings in the room will look the same and that's the best part! At the front they have a full food menu, with options for beer and wine. You can also bring this in with you while you paint! The prices are all very reasonable. Prices for paintings vary depending on which one you pick. Best bet is to look online, scroll from there and book. Certain events are sometimes discounted. Painting is fun, and you need not be a perfectionist to enjoy it. Not at all. Muse Paintbar is quite the place. I've come here twice now, once with my sister and then again for a Yelp Elite event (that review is separate from this). The gist: You reserve a spot online (be sure to watch out for events that are discounted or offer free drinks!), come in, find your easel, grab an apron, then grab a drink/bite! Then the lesson begins. The lesson is super informative, and you're free to incorporate your creativity as much as you want to. My first painting, Winter Evergreens, was not my favorite, but I still love it. The instructor, Brian, goes over everything with you, and I mean everything. He discusses the different brushes, how to mix your paints, and most importantly, how to create your Muse Masterpiece step by step. This is a fun event for all. :) I highly recommend it. read more

My wife and I went to the Muse Paintbar in Marlboro, MA and we had an exceptionally good time. The instructor, Kayla, was very nice, very skilled both as a painter and painting instructor, was patient and yet kept the group moving at an appropriate pace. I have absolutely no painting talent whatsoever and screwed up frequently (wife is clearly better at listening to instructions) but it was still fun and everyone just laughed at themselves and and moved on. We weren't the only ones who thought going to Muse Paint Bar on a rainy day would be a great idea! The atmosphere was very happy and lively as everyone was buying their drinks! Wine is a pretty standard 8-11 dollars per glass and beer is also around 7-9 dollars a can. That is not included in the price! We registered before hand as a party of four. It is four to a table and they have everything set up for you when you get there and your name on the easel! Our instructor was very nice and easy to follow! Great music too! I really enjoy my experience at Muse when we were there celebrating a friend's birthday! It was a week night and the place was not crowded at all. There were around 10 people including our group that night. Our tickets were actually with a 30% discount and include a drink. The bar area is small and you can also order some food items from there. I like the place since it doesn't give a bar feeling and very kid friendly. Most of the other paint night places are actual bars and you have to be 21+ to get in. Not that it matters to my group but I have a younger brother and cousin who are under 21 so if I ever want to take them out for painting, this would be the place. I saw a mother and young son painting together and it looked very fun. Anyone can do this regardless of age or gender. The instructor was really nice and encouraging. She came around and checked on everyone to make sure that everyone was able to follow and she would help fix the painting if anyone needed it. The pace was good in my opinion. We also had a break in between. We got some food from the bar. It's nothing too special. The other nice and lovely thing was that they gave my friends brownies with a candle in the bowl for her birthday and also a note wishing her a happy birthday. read more

My friend had a private party here for her birthday. The instructor was so friendly and patient. I've been to another paint company where the instructor sweared the whole time and ended up making a painting that was nothing like the original. I appreciated the instructor here at Muse Paintbar because of her patience in teaching us techniques and helping us when we got stuck. She made the night fun but also educational. I really appreciated her tips. She gave us all time to munch on some appetizers while the paint dried and also chatted with some of us. I liked that it never felt rushed and she still made sure everyone was done before moving on to the next step. The paintings all came out awesome and everyone was able to finish in the allotted time. This place is definitely better than the other paint company that I won't mention. Muse is professional and very friendly. I'll definitely be coming back. Just a side note-the parking here on the weekends is horrendous. The parking garages were all full and tow trucks were baiting parking lots to remove any car that seemed like they had been around for too long. I saw several cars being towed here. I was coming from a long distance and Uber or the public T wasn't really my first option. I would advise getting here super early and just making it a whole day type of thing. If your planning on coming at night, I would Uber, take the T, or carpool. I know Muse isn't in charge of all that so I didn't give them a lower rating for something that's out of their control, but just be aware of the parking situation. read more

This place is great! All of the instructors are very cool and a little funny. The pace is a little quick but we managed eventually. We stayed an extra like 10 minutes after everyone left and they let us stay for a bit to finish our painting. They're more than welcome to help you out if you just ask nicely and patiently. There's only so much they can help you though. Variety of pretty cheap drinks so would recommend. I'm garbage at painting and I think I did pretty well! read more

I don't like to leave bad reviews, however I am highly upset. We had a Family emergency with my 10 years old grandson. I notified Muse Paintbar as soon as I knew I would not be able to attend my purchased date/time. Unfortunately, there is no ability to foresee that there would be a family emergency. The fact that there is no availability in their policy to reschedule for this type of situation is not cool. It's not like people have money to just throw around, for absolutely nothing.
