We attended Chef Harold's Sushi 101 course. This was a small group session that was held at Long Live Beerworks 152 Hampden Street Boston, MA 02119. Chef Harold was extremely informative and a great instructor. We really appreciated his time and attention to all of our questions. The only downside was initially. The music was pretty loud in the venue and it was hard to hear what the chef was saying. Eventually it was turned down and everything was so fun. I would recommend this to anyone. I prepaid for a class of 17 for a "Chocolate Truffle Making Class" in Atlanta, GA 6-8 weeks prior to the date of the class. I sent out invitations to some of my best customers. The night before the class was to take place, I received notification that there was a "time" change...to the next week. That is not a time change, that is a DATE change - which is something else entirely. Oh, and I don't live in Atlanta...I flew in for this event. I purchased and paid for the experience. 1 month later I receive a text that says my experience was canceled and to check my email for details. No email. Call classpop to find out they have not sent an email and once I called will process my refund, unsure how long it will take to get my $150 back. We were given a Classpop! Signature Cooking Class Groupon for $198. My husband and I participated in the Green Curry Thai class that was $50 per person, leaving a balance of $98. Classpop!'s response is: "Groupon vouchers may only be redeemed once. The value of the Groupon voucher is not a dollar amount but rather an exchange for the number of seats for signature classes." The person who gave this to us was extremely embarrassed. This debacle reminded me why I stopped using Groupon several years ago. A rip off if not false advertising. read more

Awful experience from the start (Classpop NY/ NJ). In December 2024 I bought $250 in gift cards for a specific at home private chef sushi making class. As a promotion I got a $25 gift card bonus which is why I bought the certificates. I specifically chose that amount as the class was going to be $275 so I could use all the gift cards and $25 of it was free. I booked the class, and three days later the chef said no it was too far away. This was the only class I wanted to do, specifically sushi making. I told the chef she was putting me in an awkward spot because I had already bought the gift cards, and now couldnt use them. She basically said oh well, take it up with Classpop. I contacted Classpop and asked if I could get my money back as it wasnt my fault the chef cancelled on me. And they said gift cards are not refundable tough luck. So....I booked a second choice Thai private chef class in my own home which was $225. All the in person classes they had were in the city which is like 1.5 hours from me and I didnt want to go there. She accepted the booking back in December 2024 having seen my address as I had to send my address for her to deny or accept the booking (this is when the first chef denied so I thought I was all set and in the clear at this point.) She, chef Mary, communicated with me a couple times between December and the date of the class February 27th 2025. She confirmed booking and participants, another asking food allergies etc and a final confirmation of see you tomorrow type thing. THEN 10:00 am the MORNING OF THE CLASS, Chef Mary sends me a message requesting another $30 fee for transportation. No other message, no sorry I just realized Im an hour away etc. Just send $30 for transportation fee. I was livid, she had 2 months she could have sent this and she waits until the day of the class!!!??? (Which by the way was my boyfriends birthday so not like I can just cancel at this point.) By now the promotional $25 gift card I had had expired last week on 2/15/25 so I couldnt even use that. I called Classpop, and they were like well she should have asked sooner, but yeh tough luck. I said had she asked sooner I could have used the additional certificate, because god knows Im NEVER booking with these people again, but now it expired. Angelica said shes ask her manager and get back to me. After 2 hours, she hadnt so I called again and I said look.... Im not against the additional fee, Im against the fact she asked for it today, 2 months after I booked it, and the day of the class, basically making it impossible for me to make a different choice. And now this certificate is expired. Take the $25 expired certificate amount, Ill give you an additional $5 from the original gift card balance and I never want to deal with your company ever again! I had also messaged chef Mary back explaining I was upset she was asking for additional money the day of the class, versus anytime during the last 2 months and that I wasnt getting any help from customer service. Her reply was, "well none of my other clients ever had a problem with me requesting an additional transportation fee." I told her, it wasnt the fee perse it was the fact she asked the day of the class!!! Ridiculous process from start to finish. So now Im out another $30. I still have $20 of the original certificate left which I WILL NEVER USE!!!! read more

This was such a fun class. The chef was so personable. He took his time and made sure we were doing everything well. The food came out tasting amazing. I can't wait to make this dish again. I would definitely take another one of these classes. It was a great couple's activity. The key is to do all the recommended prep work (they email this to you). we signed up for the Wagyu Spread class with traveling Chef Harold. He arrived at our home with everything needed to prepare a variety of dishes, all featuring the Japanese Wagyu beef. Chef Harold directed us in how to prepare Egg Drop Soup, hand-rolled sushi, delicious sandwiches, and a soba noodle stir fry. I purchased the Savory Nepalese Menu as a gift to my children. They were both a bit skeptic but had a truly lovely time. The instructor, Chef Shallini is incredibly warm and deeply knowledgeable and it quickly feels like cooking with your beautiful worldly aunt. The food was incredibly tasty and it was great to see the process and learn about the dishes and the culinary tradition of Nepal. Not happy in Phoenix. I decided a cooking class 3 months in advance would be a nice gift for my girlfriend whose idea of spending time together is more important than any physical gift. Well I get an email saying our class is cancelled please respond to this email with your choice of another class. Fine except when I emailed back I've gotten no response 24 hours later. Oh BTW my girl had to request in advance the day off another reason I chose a class so far out. I've asked for my $98.00 back let's see how long this takes. I'm willing to be more understanding if I could get some customer service in a timely manner. My husband and I took a sushi making class in Dallas. I guess I just didn't understand the classes are held wherever, whenever, regardless of what else may be happening in the space or if there is access to clean running water without having to go into a bar bathroom. Let me be clear, I think Chef Chris did fine for the situation, but the class was WEIRD. We made sushi. In a bar. On high top tables. While other events were going on. It felt unsanitary and awkward to be there. No one had to wash their hands, things were just being passed around and left on tables, and nothing looked prepared. I watched chef Chris take the fish out of packing, so at least I know that was fresh and safe, but I was expecting a much more polished experience. When I say other events were going on, I mean there was an engagement party going on in the bar and it was so loud I could not hear what Chris had to say unless he was speaking directly to me and my husband. That led to a lot of disjointed conversation. He began the class by saying he was tired and that he worked a lot. He did not ask us to introduce ourselves or encourage any "group class" experience, though to be fair that would have been difficult because of the noise level. Every couple was at their own table doing their own thing. Over all, I took a cooking class to have a fun date night where I felt like I learned something in an interactive way, but sadly I did not experience that. Chef Harold arrived and begin with a short story of how he became a Sushi Chef!! My son and I loved hearing about his journey and when he started with the lesson it showed his love of he does. We began with a miso soup (best I ever had, honestly) followed with a lesson on a simple shrimp tempura roll - things taste so much better when they are fresh and made to order (get it). Chef Harold followed up with very clear directions and an example to make a California Roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll - oh wait I almost forgot about the Sushi Taco with spicy mango salsa. While it was simple - the flavor bursting through was not. I would HIGHLY recommend you booking Chef Harold if you want to learn to make Sushi and as he said - eat everything you make!! I look forward to expanding my Sushi making skills after this lesson and attempting to make the Sushi Taco. I was really excited for this, but it was a very disappointing experience. I did a pasta class with Chef Antonio in Cambridge last night. He was a really nice and charismatic guy, but the structure of the class was a disaster. There were easily 25 people there with one 2x5' table so we had to stand around waiting for an hour until we could make a couple pieces of pasta, with no instruction. We didn't get to cook or eat them because it was so crowded. We ended up leaving early because we did more watching of the Celtics game than cooking of ravioli - I mean, we were lucky the Celtics game was on otherwise we would've been staring at the floor. Maybe this is worth $10, but $50?!? Seriously?!?! That didn't even include a drink. This was a sham. Do not recommend!! read more
