My hubby's aunt brought us here since it was my first trip and his kids' trip to Switzerland and she thought it would be a fun way to learn about the country and what life used to be like....she was right! Absolutely fantastic day, we lucked out with having nice weather, especially since this is a place that you walk around...
So many building and things to see, think we tried to cover the main points and were there for at least 3-4 hrs without ever running out of things to see and experience. The buildings where you could do things like wood cutting, etc were neat. We had fun trying on some old clothes and trying to imagine what it was like to live in the houses, which were all very nice and well maintained. Of course, the younger son and I were caught up with all the animals we got to see and pet, etc. The goats were very funny, trying to eat my hair and nibble on my jackets and the young pigs were so cute! Love that they have so many animals running around and available to pet. Of course, when we took a break and had our picnic lunch, the chickens were all hovering around begging for food,,,,so naturally we reinforced their begging by tossing them bits of bread!
There was a horse and cart available and they even stopped during one of their travels to pick up a family that seemed weary of walking, but we thoroughly enjoyed walking through the beautiful museum area....
The section where the water wheels move the wood cutting machine and pound the bone into meal was really cool to see...and apparently they do things like outdoor theatre/plays there as well.
Very nice visit, highly recommend for folks to visit! read more
