This was such a fun museum connected to the Art of Hip Hop Gallery. The admission fee was reasonable. Expect to spend about an hour, maybe less, depending on how many of the captions you read and how much time you spend enjoying the art. This place is very stylish and a fascinating look into the world of graffiti for the aficionado but is sadly on the smallish side and won't seem like a good value for the money unless you're a hardcore fan. You do get a better deal if you buy a twofer admission which also includes the Art of Hip Hop Museum which is a short walk around the corner. The spray painted b boy figures outside the front door let you know you're in the right place as does the Os Gemeos wall painting on the inside. The subway turnstiles are a brilliant touch and the bathroom is appropriately tagger user friendly with just about every square inch layered deep with graffiti. I'm guessing they buff the whole thing every once in a while just to create a new tabula rasa that quickly fills right back up. There are some great nods to history with the giant shelving unit with hundreds of cans of vintage spraypaint and the room dedicated to the pioneers like Cornbread and Taki 183 but the museum is pretty lacking in permanent exhibits tracing the history and evolution of graffiti. Most of the modest square footage in here is dedicated to rotating exhibits featuring great graffiti artists they choose to highlight. The Konqr exhibit was great featuring blackbook source material as was the exhibit dedicated to a pixicao artist, Eneri. Pixicao is a certain style specific to Brazil. Other stuff from Distort and especially OG Slick felt overly commercial, straying from graffiti's outlaw roots into too much marketing, just a giant subliminal arrow pointed at the museum's inevitable gift shop. Me, I passed by all the expensive toys of tchotchkes to buy one single fat paint marker - the real essence of graffiti. It's hard to believe this is the world's first and only graffiti museum and I should hope it's not the last. New York, Philly, São Paulo, Tokyo, why are you sleeping and how did you let Miami beat you out? I sincerely hope this isn't even the last iteration of Miami's Museum of Graffiti - they badly need a space with a significantly larger footprint, someplace with lots of permanent exhibits and not just flavors of the month, someplace with space for live painting, hip hop shows, breakdancing, an expansive canvas for the culture to flourish. If you love graffiti this is a fun and funky seed but it could be so much more. read more

Museum of Graffiti was good yet preferred the Art of Hip Hop Museum. I am from NYC originally. I was in NYC in the 90s so experienced Hip Hop culture in the form of when Big Pun became the first Latino rapper to go platinum, seeing giant handball court walls become graffiti murals, break dancing, and of course 5 pointz in Queens with amazing graffiti. I have seen many original Keith Haring murals in NYC including the famous "Crack is Wack" mural in Harlem that I saw again last year and is still in amazing condition despite being done in the 1980s. Crack is wack and stay away from hard drugs is word to the wise. Interesting that they spoke about the first graffiti artist and the history from artwork to vandalism. I loved that they had an original piece of Keith Haring and mention of him yet felt that they should have mentioned Jean-Michel Basquiat for he started as a graffiti artist before becoming a famous painter linked with Andy Warhol. I have seen Jean Michel originals and he is incredible edgy and on another level whose work like Haring and Warhol leaves an important legacy. Jean-Michel's graffiti tag name was SAMO. I still think that folks who visit the Museum of Graffiti should go to the The Art of Hip Hop museum. Both are available to see for $22. Carolyn at the front desk is very knowledgable about graffiti which is one of the elements of Hip Hop. She is a talented graffiti artist herself with a unique style. She did mention that Jean-Michel didn't consider himself a graffiti artist and a street artist yet in my mind he did do graffiti and think he deserves to be mentioned here next to Keith Haring. My favorite thing of this museum was the special feature of the metaphysical surrealism by artist Mear One. While I didn't vibe with all of it I must say some of it I connected with and absolutely loved. The special feature section rotates so call to see what is on display. Check it out! read more

It brought back many memories of when I lived in NY and graffiti was booming. It's a small museum but has lots to read. The history of graffiti is very interesting and they present it very nicely. Interesting (if a bit self righteous/indulgent) display of art that plays with the boundary of vandalism while celebrating anarchy. Then there was the roped off piece with the DO NOT CROSS THIS LINE guidance, just before exiting through the gift shop. I had family in town for a long weekend and was looking to take them to some cool places that weren't just food and drinks. The Museum of Graffiti was the PERFECT place to appeal to the adult art and music lovers, and it was also ideal for the kids in the group because the bright colors and different rooms and exhibits were enough to capture their attention as well. The entry way to the museum is this super cool bodega looking storefront that leads into a gift store with lots of very cool pieces of art and novelty items. After we spent an hour here we went right around the corner of the block to The Art of HipHop museum which was also a very cool eclectic homage to all of the music I grew up on. It was both fun and funny to share that with my cousins who grew up on that music as well as now my nieces and nephews. I followed both museums on social media now and see they do a lot of different events which I will absolutely be checking out. Apparently they change the format and exhibits often. read more

So happy I decided to pop by. The Museum of Graffiti is such a unique spot. People think graffiti is for derelicts but its actually a huge movement. It is so cool to learn about the different styles and techniques of each vandal. Their different collections of artist from around the world is the most impressive. As well as their gift shop. There is metered street parking and paid garage parking nearby. The museum is located ed in an area that has wonderful graffiti all over. The museum is kind of pricey for what you get in my opinion. The museum is very small and will take around 30 minutes to go through. The staff there is very friendly. They have exhibits showing the history of graffiti art, famous artist, graffiti font types, box cars, graffiti organizations and examples of graffiti. I really like the bathroom which was decorated with graffiti all over. There is also a little nook with graffiti painted where you can sit and it serves as the backdrop for some cool pics. This place is very unique and is the first graffiti museum that I have seen. Your self guided tour ends at the, you guessed it, gift shop. You have to walk through it to exit. They have stickers, hats, post cards, posters and figurines for purchase there. this museum is more of a 3.5 rating, but closer to a 3 and not quite a 4. It is cool, but not much to it though. If you are going to visit I recommend making it part of a larger itinerary including the Wynwood Walls and walking around checking out all the art of the buildings. I would also recommend trying to find some kind of discount like a Groupon, or other discount. read more

Now this was awesome! It was blocks on blocks of graffiti, food trucks, scooters and just good vibes. I love museums... we walked til it was dark looking at artwork and taking pictures. The actual museum sits inside the middle of the street work. I don't like that you have to pay for parking lord... On the street parking at that!!! Of all the art galleries and museums we visited in the Wynwood area, this has been, by far, our favorite. Although not very big, the museum provides such interesting insight into the history of graffiti and its role in the Miami scene as well. We appreciated the friendly staff, the beautiful and bright artwork displayed and the audio tour, which is self guided and allows you plenty of time to learn about the various artists and styles. Although I was never a graffiti fan, I found this visit to be extremely enlightening, and gave me a new appreciation for the history behind this art. Total time spent was a little less than an hour, but we felt in that short period of time, we learned a lot. It's a very interesting museum and one well worth visiting if you plan on walking Wynwood. If you are coming here to learn about the history of Wynwood; you are going to be disappointed. This is a nice display of graffiti around the world. Does it give the due flowers to the POCs who were the founders of the movement ( the ones subjected to the most punishment and the LEAST profit). There was a great display about the work of Keith Haring. The man who took "14 yr old Latin kid under his wing. The child help Keith establish street creed" . I ask the reader to read between those lines and see how it was bio was written. Definitely take the presentation with a hand full of salt. There is a display about Wynwood's history; it is light in my opinion. It is a good display and take a walk through to support the arts. I would definitely suggest taking the map any really explore all the beauty murals, restaurants, cafés, and shops throughout Wynwood. read more

This was such a fun thing to do on our mother/daughter trip to Miami ! I'm such an artsy person and seen that you can book a graffiti class before you actually tour the museum. We learned a lot about the history of graffiti and even some graffiti etiquette. Our teacher was awesome and encouraged our creative juices to flow. The gift shop had some cool items for purchase and everyone was super nice .I would definitely recommend visiting and taking the class before hand if you can (or they still offer it ) read more

I really enjoyed the museum, there is a lot of visual history about the graffiti movement in the USA. Walls are full of pictures from older graffiti pieces in other cities, mainly SF and NY, and there are some rooms that have been dedicated to display graffiti, although the art in these rooms is nowhere near the pictorial collection of subway cars and wall art. There is also a nice sculpture and a lot of notebooks with pencil/pen art. The gift shop is also a cool place, they have books, t-shirts, supplies, and lots of decorations and gifts. This museum is one of the first of its kind and I was excited to hear that as a Floridian, it was in my backyard. And my visit did not disappoint. I'm not one to review museums, even though I like to visit them, but since this one is so unique and it would probably appeal to more than your typical museum visitor, I felt that I should share. If you are a fan of art you will appreciate this establishment. First and foremost, I must mention that this place is provides written history/information along with all the pieces of art; which makes for an interesting experience especially if you're not that familiar with graffiti. There is a large variety of art from photos of graffiti to actual graffiti and other articles that feature graffiti on them. They also have it a small gift shop in the museum that has some really cool items. The establishment is not at all large, but big enough for you to get some proper perusing done. One of the things that I appreciate about this establishment is that not only is it Insta-worth (great for Instagram photos) it is safe for kids; great place for a field trip. If you're looking for a change of pace from your regular weekend activities, definitely give this place a shot. read more

Our school lined up a week of field trips for our students to immerse themselves in art and culture. One of my favorite field trip spots that we went to was the Museum of Graffiti in the Wynwood art district. When we walked in, we were greeted by the friendly hosts that took our groups throughout the museum. Everyone was very friendly and informative of all the beautiful artwork of graffiti that was around. Our group was split into to two. One group did the tour of the museum first, and the second group did the graffiti design class. The instructor for the graffiti design class was very interactive with the students, and taught us how to create pieces of graffiti artwork. I was surprised that I did well for myself lol. When it was time for us to do the tour, the tour guide was very engaging and informative of every artwork that was throughout the museum. He gave a plethora of background information to where we can understand the pieces much better. Being able to see how something that was once considered illegal street artwork, is now being appreciated throughout the world is phenomenal. read more

I've waited for a while and today decided to see the Museum of Graffiti. I was very skeptical, but so pleased and engaged. The staff is very welcoming and shared information. The exhibits are well laid out, clear, and thoughtful. You cannot leave without gaining an appreciation for the graffiti and murals covering so many walls in Wynwood. If you're going to Wynwood, I'd put this attraction on your must-visit list. The gift shop has interesting stuff, too. They have moved recently, so make sure the address is correct - it's just around the corner. The ticket might be pricey, but it's worth it.
