Since long lead times and occasional delays are part of dealing with in-demand craftspeople, my expectations and preparation were such that this issue weights somewhat lightly on my judgement of the business.

Well, after getting there and looking at my statement I realized that I was not given an ultrasonic and instead a Chem clean. This completely ruined the way the horn looked and they didn't bother to remove the streaking. I also noticed that the fin was coming apart which I would have assumed would be a part of the general repair. Overall just really disappointed with what I got because it's going to be a lot of work to get the horn looking good. It plays well but it just wasn't what I had asked for

To branch out and try to learn a few things with instruments that I have never played. One of those such instruments is the drums. And I am starting relatively from scratch, I've never played drums in my life. I already had found a vintage Ken 1602 wood/rubber practice drum pad that I remembered friends using in the past. It's great. Picked up some sticks online, but Columbus Precussion has a huge selection too if you need some. So, all I was looking for at this point was an instructional book to start me along the way of learning rudiments of rhythms, how to hold sticks properly, and some other basic skills. Things that I can work on on my own as a self-starter musician project. I found just what I needed and more at this great store. It is well-stocked with full drum kits, snares, and other specialty drums. They also have other handheld percussion instruments. Plenty of general drumming supplies, including the instructional books I needed. Once I told the friendly & knowledgeable staff what I was looking for, they were able to narrow down my choices to a couple that suited my needs. They specialize in drums and related supplies, appears to be staffed with actual drummer musicians, so they can really focus on just those needs. It was a great shopping experience.

I was disappointed to find that the store actually only sells saxophones and other woodwind instruments. As I understand it, though, the shop deals mostly in vintage saxophones. That makes this place hard to beat if you're into that sort of thing. The owner told me that folks like me stop in all of the time -- people looking for stringed instruments. So just for us guitar geeks, Junkdude carries a small selection of guitar strings. No guitars, just strings. I felt embarrassed and bought some.

Closer inspection shows that the guitars are mostly Daisy Rock brand -- a brand known mainly for their guitars aimed for teenage girls. Not that there's anything wrong with that...guitar geeks just might be a little disappointed. The remainder of the store is filled with lots of junk (ugh) and some music accessories. A small selection of sheet music (Jonas Brothers and Hanna Montana -- teens still the focus), guitar strings, reeds and the like can be found. All-in-all, Pontones is an a-ok music shop. I like the way how they bill tuitions too. You will be only charged for the lessons you go to. We'd been to other schools before. Some of schools will still charge the same tuition for the long holidays when you miss 1 or 2 lessons but here it never happens. If your lessons fall on Mondays and you miss it for holiday shutdown, you won't be charged for that.

Our house is full of music, they learn new pieces each week and work on recital pieces for months. The approach to learning at Musicologie is developmentally appropriate and very engaging. Lessons are half an hour each, which makes it affordable and easy to fit into busy schedules. We've met many of the other instructors at recital and free events (Guitar Happy Hour and various concerts), and they're all friendly, fun and knowledgable. The waiting room is comfortable, with a funky vibe, or you can stroll half a block to Grandview Avenue. We've referred friends here for voice, piano and other instruments, it's a great place! Their website is full of helpful information as well, especially about getting started in lessons.
