I'm not sure why the ratings for Music & Arts are low--learning an instrument takes years unless you're some kind of prodigy, and we're in it for the long haul. Our daughter has been taking 30-minute weekly piano lessons here, and while progress is naturally slow, it's steady and meaningful. Her teacher, Ms. Helen, is phenomenal. She has endless patience and a thoughtful approach that makes each lesson productive, even when we struggle to keep up with all aspects of the practice plan at home. Knowing that this is a skill our daughter can continue to build over the next decade while she's still under our roof gives us confidence in the investment. The school also hosts recitals every six months, which are wonderful opportunities for students to perform and for families to see the range of talent across different age groups. It's inspiring for our daughter to watch others play and sing, and it motivates her to keep improving. Beyond lessons, the shop staff are kind and helpful, and the store itself is well-stocked with everything from bass guitars to full drum sets. It's convenient to have supplies right there, and I've even found myself keeping up with my own piano practice now that my daughter is enrolled. Music & Arts has been a positive, encouraging environment for our family, and we're excited to continue this journey. I called back, another hour wait without the option of a " call back" and I still have not gotten an answer and this was Day 2. My 8 year old daughter was taking guitar lessons with this company. We just had our second no-show. From what we understand, it sounds the communication is poor between front desk scheduling and the instructor. The instructor did not seem aware of the updated schedule from the front desk (twice). Front desk seems very unorganized every time with payment and scheduling. We have no complaints with guitar teacher. We have requested a refund for the two lessons from Kelly, the manager. She said the lessons are only able to be rescheduled, not refunded. If the lessons are refunded, I will take this post down. read more

(This was an entire day of an ordeal) I was sent to so many people on the phone because of their online rental system (which needs some major TLC) that wouldn't allow me to purchase my rental online. After being told to call 3 other stores that supposedly had a piccolo on site for rental (which upon discovering they did not), I was sent to Kelly's location @ 5pm where in less than 30 minutes I was able to see both piccolos, test them out in their playing rooms and get my rental started and walked out with a piccolo for my performance coming up this weekend. I don't write many reviews, but Kelly went above and beyond for me and was apologetic for the previous reps who handled me poorly! Thank you again! I will be back soon! :) read more

Horrible Customer Service experience. Kept me on hold for 45 minutes, then hung up on me, 10 minutes into the conversation, 6 TIMES, after seeking resolution on a return. I was told I was "in a queue" to have a supervisor call me back to resolve the issue, but no one every called. One customer service representative flat lied to me and said "all Music & Arts shipments require a signature for delivery." Not only did that not happen, but other customer service representatives told me that it was completely untrue. After an automated system hung up on me the 6th time, I quit trying to call. They got what they wanted: my money and the expulsion of stock they didn't want. The hassle caused the product to become worthless to me, so I can't even speak to the value this vendor offers. This company should be ashamed and someone should take this place to the mat and sort them out. It's the most unprofessional experience I've ever encountered in professional music. read more

I placed an order online, paid for expedited shipping, and was left hanging with zero communication on a back order that was shown in stock when I placed my order. I had to spend 1 hour and 9 minutes on the phone to find out that it was back ordered and subsequently cancel my order. They took the order under the pretense that the materials were in stock, they took my money for faster shipping, and then completely left me hanging. Customer service does not reply to emails. Why would I pay for fast shipping just so they can sit on the order indefinitely?! Basic communication is too much I suppose but that's fine I'll just go elsewhere and figure out who in the school system is recommending this place so that they can stop recommending it. I returned an instrument and 6 months later I got notification that I was sent to collections for not returning it. You renew through a national line, which is the 7th circle of hell. Long wait times. Refuse to show you the contract until you put a credit card down. Music and arts sells musical instruments and accessories for entry level and experienced musicians. They carry more guitars in stock than any other item, which makes sense considering I know 10 different people who have purchased one aspiring to play; unfortunately, the outcome of their musical career is almost always a guitar sitting in the corner of the bedroom accumulating dust. This location is actually fairly small, so you can expect to do some maneuvering around all of the instruments to get around the store. There was an individual getting piano lessons in the back room of the store though. Apparently they give lessons at the store for a small fee. The main reason I did not give this place a great rating because of my experience with the manager. When I walked in he greeted me nicely, and then like a predator in the African jungle he crept towards me asking me if I needed any help. When I told him that I was just looking, he persisted on trying to sell everything to me, giving me commentary on every item I touched and following me like my shadow. The only time when I was there that I did not have to avoid him was when he started yelling at one of his employees on the phone. read more

I bought a guitar from them. It's not really that kind of an establishment but it's a relatively rare guitar, a fender 60th anniversary Jaguar, and I wasn't able to find another store that had one. I looked for months and one finally popped up on their website so I called their location in Frisco, tx to make sure it was actually extant and not just a mistake. It exists so I bought it. The girl I was already on the phone with helped me put in the order, I dropped a little extra money to have it overnighted, she was super nice, and the buying experience on its own was actually really pleasant. I hope she made commission off it. That's about the last part of my experience with them that was pleasant though. After tax it's a $2700 guitar. Obviously there are more expensive guitars in the world but it took me 6 months working overtime every week to be able to put that much away and it was enough of a purchase that their fulfilment facility felt the need to call me and have me verify my identity. That's fine except they waited 3 days to do it for the order I paid $50 to overnight. Even so, if that was the end I probably wouldn't have to be here writing this rn. The guitar showed up the day after. I was excited and left work a little early to get it. The finish looks fantastic and it sounds great but it's missing the trem arm that's supposed to come with it and there's a problem with the mounting of the pickguard. It's not the end of the world but I paid a good amount of money for it and I really would at least like to have all the parts. I called m&a to ask if the trem arm was something they could help me with or if I needed to call fender, and figured I'd address the pg at a later time. Frankly I thought I might be able to fix it myself. The first guy I spoke with told me that they could do a replacement, I told him I didn't think it would be possible bc I didn't think they had another one of that guitar so he said they'd just send out the trem arm and I'd get an email when it left their facility (fender sells the trem arms separately from the guitars as well, the same is true for a bunch of parts). I never got an email so a few days later I called back to see what was going on and I was told that the guy I spoke to before was out of town but that they decided they needed to do a full replacement and had a guitar in inventory of identical spec. I told the new guy that I didn't think that was correct so he said he would go check, that if they did have it I would get replacement paperwork emailed to me, and that I would be sent the new guitar and be expected to send the first guitar back when it arrived. It's not ideal but it would solve both my problems. Again I waited for a few days and wasn't contacted so I called back... And spoke to another new person who told me that the new guitar was on the way and should be there in a few days. I was confused because the conversation I had with them most recently prior to this point lead me to believe they would contact me prior to sending out the replacement but I wasn't gonna complain about timely service so I waited. He told me it should be 2 or 3 days so when I hadn't seen it in so long I called back again. The person I got on the phone with that time may have been the worst customer service I've ever had in my life. She told me that they don't have a guitar to replace it with and that they wouldn't send out the trem arm and that the only option I had for a remedy was a return and refund. I don't want that because there's not a good way for me to get another one without paying $1000 over sticker on the resale market. Anyway she was super rude and very obviously not willing to work with me so I asked her to escalate the help ticket so I could talk to someone with a little more sway in the company. She fought me on that but ultimately we came to the compromise of her escalating my help ticket so I could speak with her boss. She told me they should get back to me within 48 hours. While all of this has been going on I've made efforts to contact them by email as well because I like to have a paper trail when I have to ask someone to remedy issues with a purchase I've made. Sometimes records come in handy in a situation like this. I'd sent 2 or 3 emails over the week I'd been working with them and not heard back. Right after I got off the phone with the lady who was rude to me I checked my email and saw that I had a reply saying sorry for the wait and that the only thing they'd do for me was a return and refund. If I wanted the money more than the guitar I wouldn't have bought it in the first place but I've got $2750 in it already so I told them that wasn't gonna work for me and that I'd need them to come up with a better solution. I said if they weren't gonna make one i would, and proposed either a 10% refund so I could go buy the trem arm myself and pay a luthier to fix the problem with the pg. Absolutely do not rent from Music and Arts. We rented a percussion kit last year as they were recommended by the school and we planned on using our credit to purchase an instrument from them, but there are far more stipulations than on the rental agreement that the customer actually sees and they jack up the prices on the ones you would be able to purchase if they actually had them in stock at the store. They even sell them cheaper on their website and you can't have them order it in for you or you will lose your credit. I have been waiting on an order since Sept. 15, 2021. It is now Nov. 19, 2021. I have received a portion of my $800+ order and have called several times to find out an update on the items I have not received. Every time I call, the wait time has been at least 10 minutes up to 1/2 hour. They cannot find my order! I have had to jump through hoops to find out where the order is and where my items are. One customer service assistant was able to find the order and tell me that the items were 'open order'. I called today, a month later and the SAME assistant could not find my order! This company has horrible customer service. I changed my payment method online. Apparently that's not how you change your payment method even though they have a payment method tab where you can change your method of payment. You have to call in to customer service to change it. I had given them an account for a one-time payment and was assured I would not be billed again. But I was billed again and they made my account negative. When I called customer service they took no responsibility whatsoever for the unauthorized payment. The lady told me they will not remove that method of payment and they will bill it again if the payment method I give them over the phone doesn't go through. I've never experienced such horrible customer service ever in my entire life. And when I asked for a manager she refused to transfer me to a manager. I had to call my bank and dispute the charge and change my debit card number so that they can't bill me again. read more

UPDATE: The instrument has been returned and I received a phone call today that the balance of the account will not be forgiven, however it will be adjusted for the last few months. The reason given was that they marked the account pending return when my husband first attempted to have a label sent and did not follow-up on the account after that (for over a year!!). They claim that my husband didnt follow-up either so we are "equally" to blame, and, therefore, we have to pay- note that when they say we are equally at fault, we are still having to pay more than half the balance. It seems to reason that if the blame is shared equally, we should only have to pay half the balance, but I digress. My husband DID attempt to have someone contact him using their online form, but apparently that was never reflected on his account. My husband rented my step-daughters clarinet back in the fall of 2016, by the end of the school year (May or June 2017) the local store had closed and he was told a box and label would be sent to us to return the clarinet. We never received the box or label. He called several more times and nothing. We didnt get any further bills until just a few months ago stating that we owe $400+ and that it would be sent to collections. He has tried calling customer service and has tried to send emails to get this problem solved. This is very poor business practice and terrible customer service! Rental arrangement for a sax was a sham. The pitch I remember them giving me when I entered a rental contract was that the rental fees will reduce the price of the sax if I purchased it later. Not true. Day one I could have purchased the sax for $882. Nine months later I purchased the sax for $600. The only reduction is depreciation. None of the $500 I paid in 9-mons of rental fees did anything to reduce the price. So, if you rent...know that all of your rental fees go towards rental and none of it will go toward actually paying for the cost of the instrument. The instrument quality is fine. Store was clean and helpful. Their business model may leave you feeling ripped off. read more

Problem- when you return the equipment at the end of the school year, at the school, they carry on charging you credit card for months. On April 14,2021 I Call the number and put in for a request to investigate. They said wait 3 days to be contacted. I ordered an acoustic guitar from this company for a birthday present for someone else and a week later I got an email asking me to call their customer service to validate my order. Called and verified my order and the gentleman I spoke with said my order has been confirmed and it has been released to ship. THE VERY NEXT DAY I got another email from the verification department asking me to call and verify my order.....AGAIN. So I called and verified my order with a different person and was told it was AGAIN verified and would be sent to me. The next day my bank account showed a reverse charge for the payment on the purchase. Very frustrated I called and was given voice mail, so I asked someone to call me back to see what was going on with my order. No one ever called me back. BUT, they DID charge my account TWICE for the guitar later that day, resulting in an overdraft on my account. I called and spoke with a woman to just cancel my order because by then I was fed up with the company. I was told the order had shipped out already and could not be cancelled, and it would take 7-10 business days to get them to refund the erroneous duplicate charge. No refund of the bank over-draft fees, just an "I'm sorry, is there anything else I can help you with?". WORST buying experience. Would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

The lessons given may be okay, but the staff for getting anything arranged is horrible. My daughter, a high school Baritone player, put in a request for private lessons with a particular instructor. The form said she would hear back within 48 hours. A week passed by and we heard nothing. I just got off the phone with the store...they informed me the instructor had some students drop off for the summer but he just filled back up again. Probably during the time we were waiting to hear from them. I will not use this store ever again. Today is 12/16/17. I returned my instrument back in the summer time 2017. I threw away my folder and receipt from music & arts thinking I did not need it no longer because I returned my instrument . I started receiving bills that I owed money for the instrument. I called 1-888-731-5396 and spoke with a Terry letting her know that I did return my instrument and it was all paid up to date but I threw away my receipt. She was looking into finding my receipt as she said it was at the main music & arts head quarters. She is not answering my calls after many attempts too phone her nor is anyone at the 1-888-731-5396 helping me.
