A very bad experience! I called and booked an appointment on April 3rd, to meet the drum teacher at 3pm. Today (10th, April) when I drove there, they told me they don't have any information about the appointment. I left my cell number also my email address, but they found nothing. Are you kidding me? I took a day off and is it a joke? The person in front desk who has one toothpick in his mouth, he looked very impolite. I called, I knew the teacher's name, I also knew how much for one lesson. I was extremely disappointed! I have to say, whose fault I have no idea but seems like their system has a serious issue. They do not have a great communication, staffs are not in the same page! This review is based on the customer service/LDW insurance - its basically a scam. I've attached a website screenshot showing that they would agree to cover a lost item if you have the LDW insurance. I gave the customer service number a call and they said "its not covered the website is wrong." I'm a small business owner and it doesn't matter - its considered false advertising and i even showed them the website. They could have clearly made the website different if they didn't want to cover lost items but would cover stolen items. Also its a good idea to listen to when they actually would cover their stolen items - you would need to file a police report and they don't cover it if it happened in some locations vs others. I will not be doing business with them again as I don't trust them. I wanted to give a shout out to thid plsce because it was my go-to store back in the day. I took lessons here for the bass guitar, and I had a lot of fun. I actually learned a lot as well. I started renting the bass guitar from them, and then I stsrted weekly lessons some time later. From what I remember the prices were reasonable. My guitar teacher was realky cool also. i started learning with some easy AC/DC songs. The other thing is that I had no idea thst they have iver 150 locations across the country. This is a complaint about their billing department. I'm honestly too exhausted to provide every detail but the short version is their billing department needs a serious overhaul. Their customer service reps aren't on the same page. Each rep tells you a different thing. The credit card that I used to pay the monthly charge was hacked and I had a new card reissued. Of course this coincided with the billing date and a payment was unable to be processed even though I called to alert them and provide the new number. No phone call was received from them. The first notice I get is from their collections department. Yes, collections. I spoke to someone and they said they would reverse the late fees as a result of the situation and my attempts to inform. A month later, I discover "there are no notes in our system about this", you still owe these fees and your account is delinquent. I just wanted a zero balance at this point and had given up trying to get anything from them so I paid in full. Lastly, the last day of my daughters school year was 6/13 and my billing date was 6/10. I explained I would return the violin on 6/14 and they informed me that was ok because there was a 4 day grace period. Guess what? I return the violin and June's charge was on my account. I call and they say it's a 3 day grace period and "there are no notes that you were told a 4 day grace period". So I guess now I'm a liar. Ok. They say they will request a credit but can't guarantee. They never called me back to inform me of the status. I just called again and the lady cut me off and said "there is no grace period". I asked if I could please finish explaining so she was up to speed and she said "you can call back" and hung up. My daughter will need an instrument in the next few years and I will NEVER EVER EVER use Music & Arts. read more

This review is for instrument rental. Rented instruments for my kids fall marching band season from the McLean Music and Arts store and had a very positive experience. Thought the cost of the rentals were very reasonable and the horns were brand new. Even with the insurance purchase the total cost was fair. Helpful staff, too. I've been seeing Dennis for guitar lessons for the last 19 years. He's been the only guitar teacher I've had and I have to say I feel very lucky for that. His knowledge on guitar and music theory is so incredibly immense, I couldn't imagine having lessons with anyone else. The rest of the staff at the store are also very helpful and knowledgeable. I had no problem with lessons my kid received at this center, the ongoing and irritated factor was bookkeeping and keeping track of money by the office manager, he overcharge my credit card for hundreds of dollars , it was not easy task to convinced him since he had no record of how many times my kid showed up or his lesson. at the end he agreed that he made an error , no apology was given and he did not give us a refund but agree to provide lesson for nearly 2 months to break even. We point out his mistakes time after time and he finally ask us not to come back . He also told us we have only one payments left to own our instrument , which turn out to be wrong. he knows nothing about customer service, he lacks discipline and no bookkeeping skills. read more

This review is for instrument repair and rental. When I walked into the store I was instantly greeted and asked how I could be helped. The woman working was very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to share information. I brought in an instrument to be repaired. The system is that they take the instrument but send it out to fairfax for the repairs. They call you with the estimate (at no cost) and with your approval they make the repairs. The repairs are only picked up 3 times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They have loaner instruments if you are renting an instrument, but they don't offer loaners for repairs. I had to rent an instrument for a month. The rental process was easy. Once again the women helping me was very helpful and made the process easy. Overall I had a pleasant experience. read more

If I could give them negative stars I would. Awful, just awful. After about three (!!!) sessions, the teacher totally discouraged my child from taking any more lessons. Not a suggestion for another instrument, not a "maybe you should practice more", no warning, nothing. Who DOES that to a child??!! Do they even screen anyone who works there? Does it even pay to be nice to people any more? Clearly this place does not think so. The child came home in tears. We asked our friends who graduated from Juliard, and are well paid performing concert musicians for a living, if this is at all normal. They replied that knowing how well behaved, disciplined, and advanced our children are in every aspect of their life, they are shocked that this place could even stay open. We have several musicians in the family, and the children play other instruments well, so not only are they inclined, but they enjoy it. Until now. Great job, Music and Arts, great job. Don't take lessons here. Their billing practices are opaque and charges showed up on my credit card that I didn't recognize or understand. It took several phone calls to get any explanation, and even then they charged me for lessons my kids never took. I only paid them because they sicked a credit agency on me when I disputed the illegitimate charges with my credit card company. Also, their rentals are overpriced. Please go to Alexandria store instead of this store as these folks are not helpful at all. Even if you complain that the rental instrument has issue based on the feedback from a professional, they won't try to replace a similar one, instead, they'd try to upsell a higher prized one. If you need a good service, please stay away from here as being in Mclean, there is an inherent predisposition that folks here have lots of disposable income. read more

Took a trumpet to Music and Arts for what appeared to be a simple repair (stuck valve). Received a call two days later that the trumpet was back and ready for pick up. When I arrived to the store, the trumpet was nowhere to be found. Was told..."OOPs, we made a mistake! The trumpet is actually not here!" Was then called about 5 days later and told "the trumpet is repaired and ready for pick-up!" When I arrived, the manager asked if I needed help, then proceeded to tune a guitar for about 5 minutes while I waited for him to help me. The trumpet could initially not be found; finally it was found, but it was not repaired! Was first told (by the manager) it was not repaired because I declined the estimate; that was not true...was then told it was not repaired because they did not have the parts. When I complained, I was told by the second staff member at the store that "we are not responsible"! I guess that means I am????? Bottom line, the staff at Music & Arts are totally incompetent; a real clown-show! Don't go there unless you want the run-around! read more

Our 10 year old daughter took 2 lessons there. The rooms are very small and the teacher not very positive. She got scared. We paid 3 lessons + $25 registration fee, a total of $145 for 2 lessons and our daughter was in tears. Not a great experience. Hopefully it works out better for other customers :) read more

Do not rent from them....you will never receive any statements. I asked several questions online (their phone number is not working) and they just closed "tickets" without responding. We are on rent-to-own program for several years now and we still "owe" $600. read more

The person who rented us an instrument was pushy, trying to get us to purchase numerous additional items along with the rental, and charging me for one item even after I'd said I didn't want it. Luckily I noticed and had them take off the charge. We returned the instrument in June but they kept billing my credit card for the rental three additional times, even after numerous calls. (and this is a bass which is expensive at $86 a month) They say their new billing system is a mess and agree that they owe us money but they say that the amount is now so high that they refuse to reverse the charges on the credit card but have to process and mail us a check. It's September and we still have not received a refund for a duplicate charge in June and charges in July and August. Please be warned not to use autopay here, unless you can afford to have them bill you a few hundred dollars extra and not return it. read more
