I don't live locally but visit family frequently enough to want a go-to studio in Virginia Beach. I found 3 on yelp - none of which had any reviews. Chose Pilates Fitness Club solely based on the website: it was really easy to find the schedule and the class options are super convenient. Plus a prominently featured intro deal for new clients: 5 classes for $25. Worth it? Yes. I haven't tried the other studio to compare, but I'm fairly positive I made the right choice. Not intimidating at all (the other studio pretty much required you to call in advance if you were a brand new student) and awesome instructor (Chris) - whether there are 2 students or 12, he really focuses on making sure you're doing the movements correctly and makes the 50 minutes of class fly by. Proximity to the oceanfront is an added bonus.

The instructors were very good and took you through the movements and made the appropriate adjustments. They made the class fun and approachable even for beginners like me. They had a $25 for 5 classes for first time customers deal so you really don't have an excuse not to give them a try. Be warn though because you'll likely come back often. The classes are generally scheduled every hour and can be easily booked through the website. On the last day, I brought my 60 year old mother to class and Christopher took his time to work with her on the various Pilates positions. She has not even heard of Pilates and she had a great workout. This is on my to go list when I am in the area.

She encouraged me to try their free introductory class, which I did. The staff at the front desk was incredibly welcoming, warm, and friendly. They immediately made me feel at ease and ensured that I enjoyed the introductory class. Although the exercises were unfamiliar to me, the instructor took her time and assisted anyone struggling without making them feel embarrassed. The class was filled with people of all ages, and the environment was nothing like I had imagined. I had pictured a bunch of seasoned members in an intense atmosphere, similar to hot yoga places. Sometimes, I'm the youngest one in class pushing close to 50, and the other members give me the motivation if they can do it, I can do it. There's so much variety every workout that no hour session is the same. The time flew by as I engaged in various exercises with different workout equipment (for lack of a better term) props. This distraction helped me ignore the muscle burn, which is always welcome. The instructors gently assisted anyone in a private manner, even though it was an open room. They made me feel comfortable suggesting or correcting my form. The reformer was an excellent tool for workouts, with colored coils that allowed me to challenge myself or modify the resistance with my body weight. Using the straps with the reformer alone was an effective way to stretch. I love Pilates because it tones my body without the jarring impact of running, jumping, or other activities. I've had great experiences with all the instructors I've had. During a month when I had severe sciatica pain and had to cancel sessions, the staff was incredibly understanding. They even provided me with helpful exercises to do at home and allowed my sessions to roll over into the next month. The staff truly makes the place special. I've only been going for a little over two months on an eight-session plan, and I'm already considering moving to the unlimited membership. They offer a wide range of classes at various times daily, from early morning to late evening and throughout the weekend. If you're considering trying Pilates, I highly recommend giving this place a try for your first experience.

In group, It is uncanny how she has an eye on everyone, so you might feel a light touch on your knee to keep it aligned while she's ensuring the group is inhaling and exhaling at proper intervals to optimize your workout. In private sessions (which I am enjoying right now during the healing of my broken arm), she isolates the intended muscle(s) so no impact to the injured area. Since I'm a regular at neighboring Egg Bistro, Red Chair and Elite Nails, I have seen Dawn Pilates studio a few times now and was always curious about getting back into some form of physical activity. So I checked out their website and signed up for an introductory class yesterday evening. The studio is immaculately clean and the equipment is very well kept. They have sanitizer available and the instructors wear masks during classes. As you enter, you'll find cubbies to secure your belongings right up front. Toward the back, they have restrooms and a private studio. They have a selection of activewear, socks and other accessories to aid your practice and make you feel fancy. Personally, I find that cute workout wear inspires me to work harder. You will have to sign a waiver and provide some health-related info before starting. I am glad they ask for this as, without knowledge, you can easily exacerbate injuries if you do not make your instructors aware. They also inquire about your goals and will offer suggestions about how often to practice to reach your goals. They have a variety of equipment (reformer with tower, TRX, Bosu, other mats and balls) so that your classes won't get stale and you will see continuous progress. The introductory class is no-pressure, super informative and a quick way to fall in love with pilates (for me, a 2nd time around). Brande was the instructor and guided my form during the class while also being motivating and encouraging. After we finished, she reviewed the pricing with me (again, no pressure.. thanks, Brande!) and asked if I had questions. Like hot yoga, prices are definitely an investment for memberships, but they have several options depending on how often you expect to take class and are currently offering a 10% discount until the end of the year. I asked about pay-in-full discounts and she indicated that was also an option. I expected to feel incredibly sore this morning and I do, which is such a good feeling! My wallet won't be as happy as the rest of my body though...shew! But I am certainly eager to start taking classes regularly!

The instructors, Catie and Anna, take their time to get to know us and ask if there are any particular areas on which we'd like to focus. They're more than happy to manually adjust/improve our postures, whereas instructors at other studios don't want to touch us due to fear of cooties! The studio is clean, simple and basic. Fellow classmates are also friendly as Kempsville is typically a friendly neighborhood. I'm taking advantage of the grand opening deal for unlimited monthly classes. If only I can squeeze in more class time in between work and school!
