Grabbed a few movies and microwave popcorn and we were on our way. My only, only gripe is that they don't have a drop box - at least not one we could find. We were headed home early Monday morning and they don't open until 10am. So we had to wait to return the movies.

I clocked the "Used Books" sign on the way through town and had to check it out. I can only wish we still had a shop like this in Santa Cruz. Miles of used (and new) books--like the Tardis, it's bigger on the inside. The mystery section alone was jaw-dropping. I picked up some excellent technical volumes for my archaeologist kid, plus some LPs and a cookbook. Yes, they have used LPs. And puzzles, DVDs, CDs, musical instruments, art supplies. Other eccentric customers for atmosphere. A cool dog, named Zeus. And owner, Chris, was lovely to talk to. This place is pure magic--you should go.

Also, the movie selection is not great -- or at least, the have "new releases" up on the wall for an EPIC amount of time. Also, on the old release shelves, they will have like 4 of the same dvd's of some obscure non-hit movie taking up space. Some of the time, it is questionable if the DVD's are "legit" or if they are somehow copied or something. BUT -- we tend to really like the employees there. Friendly, down-to-earth. So I really appreciate that. This is not meant to be a mean spirited review -- the place honestly needs to make some changes.

Sometimes they don't have a movie I want to rent, but their staff is always willing to stop what they are doing to help you search or, at your request, to suggest another movie you might like. In the age of instant streaming, this store should be out of business, but because of their excellent staff, their fair pricing deals, and healthy inventory they are doing well.
