About a week before the event, he took time out of his busy schedule to come to our home and survey the layout. He suggested speaker and lighting placement, and let us pick the color of our lighting. The best part of the meeting: he let us know that he would be able to hookup our existing flat screen TV to use for the lyrics, instead of a tiny monitor. Fabulous! Not only did he show up exactly on time, he coordinated with me about the exact time I wanted him to arrive, as to not interfere with the caterers, florists and cake decorators. He had plenty of gear, but once it was set up, it took up barely any space at all! He also put on some mood music while we were getting ready, and it really fired us up! We had asked for several songs to be played at certain times as the evening progressed. Not only was he able to accommodate our odd playlist, but he also integrated karaoke throughout the evening whenever someone wanted to sing...quite seamlessly too! Guests were also able to request songs and were rewarded with a smile from Evan every time. There was never a quiet moment. The karaoke lyrics on my wall-mounted TV were awesome - everyone was able to see the words and sing along! Another highlight of the evening was when I saw a guest ask how the equipment worked. Before my eyes, Evan transformed my guest into a full-blown DJ -mixing music with headphones and all!!! It was a riot! The smiles on both the DJ's and my guest's faces were absolutely priceless. Definitely a highlight of the evening! The dance floor was hopping all night long, the guests were happy, the volume was perfect, and there was never any feedback or awkward silences. We had to wait more than four weeks to get an appointment at a time that worked for our work schedules, though Dylan was very friendly and personable. He asked questions that were more than just the surface queries about music styles and the venue, and we enjoyed the meeting. Having met with other DJs previously, Sound By Design came in a bit higher than the other quotes, but we really liked the overall vibe. We asked if they could match the price of our other leading vendor and received no reply. At all. I fully expected to hear that they don't negotiate their prices insert generic policy language here, I did not expect to be ghosted by the company like a bad Tinder date. For argument's sake, let's say that the interwebs failed and they did not receive the email in which we inquired about negotiating on the price. In that scenario, wouldn't Dylan have reached out after not hearing from us? His line of questioning had us with the impression that the personal connection was important to Sound By Design, but I fear that is just lip service. In the end I went two stars since their lack of answer made a potentially difficult choice that much easier.

The photos can be texted to your phone and there is a viewable online gallery that can be accessed by anyone with the link and you can see every photo saved. I love that I am able to look back on all of our guests photos! My only complaint were the props provided but I was told it was a coincidence. We specifically told our planner we loved Michael Jordan and that Space Jam is our favorite movie but ended up having props from the new Space Jam and a bunch of Lebron props. We are not Lebron fans so we quickly got rid of those when we noticed. No biggie though. I docked a star because we had paid for specialty lighting after the dinner and we had to track down the coordinator for this because they didn't switch the lights over. The lights were supposed to be multicolored throughout the venue and change to the beat of the music but they didn't start this until a while after dancing had started. We had to actively search for the vendor coordinator to figure out what was going on. We thought the stage lighting was supposed to change too but they kept those lights normal and bright and then eventually changed the rest of the venue's lighting. Overall, I definitely recommend the photobooth but if you have specific props you want, maybe coordinate that better with the vendor. If you choose to hire them for lighting as well, establish a timeline and plan for it so you get the most of what you are paying for without any hiccups.

I also had given him a list of songs to NOT be played even if they were requested, he did not follow through with this. This guy is a trip and certainly not worth $1000, please do yourself a favor and avoid booking with him.

He even managed to get us a disco ball, per our special request! The result was IMO the best and most unique wedding dance party we could have asked for. They were highly responsive, professional, and easy to work with throughout the planning process. Additional to the emailing, Joe & Ken video-called us one week prior to our event to review the reception timetable, song requests, and venue details. Months prior to our event, Joe and Ken provided us access to their client portal. This portal allowed us to add the reception timetable, the names of our wedding party, songs for our grand entrance, the first dance song, the last song of the night, and other must-play songs. Joe hit every song we requested that night, including the Filipino line dance song in Tagalog. The dance floor was never stagnant or empty. All generations had the best time on the floor. If you have Spotify, then building a custom playlist for the night is easy to transfer over to the client portal in two mouse clicks. Speaking of the grand entrance, since my wife and I had a small ceremony last year with our immediate families only, we worked with Ken to customize our grand entrance to include a video of our ceremony highlights projected onto a curtain. We wanted our extended families and friends that were not able to witness last year's ceremony to watch our special moment as if they were there, too. Ken was able to edit our highlight video to 2-3 minutes. Once the pronouncement occurred in the video (I now pronounce you... you may now kiss the bride), my wife and I burst through the curtains like a high school football team at homecoming with our banger entrance song. The grand entrance was GRAND AF and our guests were hyped. We were told by numerous family members and friends that it was the best entrance they have ever seen - the projector image was clear from 100 feet away, the song was fun, and the timing was perfect. Also, our family and friends loved the Walking Photo Booth. Typically, my wife and I would wait in long lines at other weddings for the photo booth. This time around Mike from Amp Event Professionals had a handheld ring light photo booth that walked up to us. He was able to capture all the guests throughout the evening in their most spirited moments - into photos and GIFs! Super cool tech, super worth the add-on cost. We made sure to clear this Walking Photo Booth with our photographer since we were basically doubling our photo amount. My only suggestion when working with Joe and Ken is that you should hydrate a lot leading up to the celebration because both my quads cramped up hard that night from dancing so much. Seriously. We were all jumping, moving, and grooving for hours straight. Overall, they exceeded our expectations and gave us a night that we will cherish forever. We highly recommend Amp Event Professionals to anyone looking for respectful guys that just want to throw you the best dance party.

But once I got engaged, I didn't hesitate to tell my now Husband that Ken was the person we were hiring no matter the cost. We planned our budget around Ken and our venue because that was how confident I was to have him as our DJ. With 2020 taking a turn for what it did, we were struck with a difficult decision to make whether it be to postpone to keep our wedding. We decided to still have our ceremony and postpone our reception to next year. Ken was extremely accomodating and checked in with us numerous times throughout quarantine to make sure we were okay, and the transition process was seamless. He understood the difficult decision and never gave any push back on what we needed to do. With that being said, fast forward to our ceremony. When discussing our vision, Ken offered the ability to make it more personalized. This meant that he would record my Husband and I talked about how we met and basically tell our love story while the bridal party is walking down the aisle. Ken came over to our home and recorded us separately so I had no idea what my other half was saying until the Day of. Listening to it during the ceremony has me SOBBING even before I stepped out to walk down the aisle. After the ceremony, he sends us the clip allowing us to be able to listen to it over and over again. We already can't wait to work with him for our reception next year!
