Went to another music store, which shall not be named, and was not greeted very kindly- workers at that music store were very quiet, I wasn't even greeted at the door and had to make my presence noticed and say good morning- to them. The experience here at Harper's Music Store was different however. It's been years since I've been here- last time I was here, I recall getting a synthetic reed for my baritone sax. The owner, Steve, greeted me as I walked through the door and asked me what my needs were. I told him I was looking for a beginner AMP and first showed me some small, cheap options. I then asked him that I wanted something with a little more features to it and then showed me a Marshall MG30FX and a Spider IV Line 6 75 W. I decided to go with the Line 6 as the presets and customizability of the AMP was what persuaded me in buying it. I'm not sure if he works here too but Michael helped me in further solidifying my purchase of the Spider AMP over the Marshall because of the same reasons, so thank you to you too Michael! Purchasing my Fender Starcaster here was a breeze- I traded in a guitar for the Starcaster and that process was very straight forward- just show your ID and Steve'll take a look online to see how much it is priced and give you a fair offer like he did with me. Overall, if you're looking for musical needs, going to Harper's Music Store is a great idea. The customer service let alone is really what knocks this place out of the park. I'll be coming here again if I need anything else.

Call this wierd. However, no good deed goes unyelped in my book…read more I called APEX to ask about a certain piece of audio equipment: if they sold, what brands ect. Mainly, just to get some info before driving over, and double check the hours. 10 minutes before opening, on the phone, the dreaded answer "we don't carry those.". However, over the next 25 minutes, an explanation of who does, where they are, what to expect for the particular piece of equipment, things to consider, the insight of the employee. And, they do rent the equipment. With a fair warning, that they might sell the rental equipement, but since the particluar piece is industrial and well maintained, it'd probably go for MORE than normal places. And it'd be subject to the bosses approval. You have to wish more places would be open, honest, helpful and provide answers to the quality and extent that this place does. A stand up place to do buisness, if there ever was a definition of it. Clearly a tribute to it's many years of existance!

Though, it did take a while since he seemed to be the only one working and he was helping about five other customers, too. But, he attended to every one of us. If I were to go anywhere for any music needs, or even questions, I would definitely come here. No hesitation at all. The customer service is some of the best I've ever received, anywhere. I tried several places and they all let me down. I don't remember how I came across this place, but I've been here several times and it's been great every time. It's worth the bit of a drive I have to take up from imperial beach. Over a year ago, I took some basses in to get set up for recording, including my main player. That thing is still playing true, despite being all over the west coast in a trailer. (I change strings all the time, but not brand or gauge.) More recently, I acquired a fretless precision for a recording project, and had my doubts about the bass I bought from Florida. I brought it in, and was given sage advice to return the bass. I did, and when I saw the pictures was so grateful to be saved the troubled that bass would have caused me... I sent pictures of the next one I found on Craigslist, and felt confident in driving three hours to pick up this bass after running it by Sean. He set that one up lickety split, too.
