We decided to upgrade our floors this year, and after hearing horror stories from Lowe's / Home…read moreDepot jobs, we checked out Martin's. I had emailed thru their website and the next day I was already talking to someone to set up an appointment to have measurements and such done. Had everything measured, then went to look at samples. We went about this backwards, but we wanted to know the price range we were in from samples we could see, vs falling in love with something out of our price range. We had wanted hardwood, but after talking to the consultant, and answering some questions, she advised against the (more expensive) hardwood, and steered us towards Luxury Vinyl plank flooring. We went back to the store 3 times taking different samples home with us each time, but wound up with one of the ones from the original group we brought home. Set up our install appointment, was quoted M-W,and they were not only done on Tuesday, they left early Monday! Very little actual life disruption other than having to deal with all the dust and then walking on plywood for a day. Would recommend Martin's to anyone in need of new flooring in the area!

From the initial visit to take measurements to leavening after install, I felt taken care of the entire way. Michelle at the store was amazing. I was in there multiple times, for a few hours each, looking at the flooring. She not only helped recommend the flooring type but also offered to come look at the samples in our house if I wanted. We finally chose a floor and when they called to schedule I had to push it out a few weeks. That was no problem for them. On install day the guys were professional, efficient and clean. We were told it would take 2 to 3 days and they were done in two so I was happy for that. They made things super easy for us and communicated along the way. We will be using them when we get our second floor done.

They had a…read morefairly good selection of tile to look at, but seemed a bit apprehensive to show products (in books) that they didn't have in stock. My wife and I ordered some tile for our powder room and the price for the tile was reasonable. However, the price for the demo and install was completely inflated. We have a small powder room (5' x 5'), and I prepared it by removing the toilet, sink, vanity, and all other objects, which greatly simplified the demo. For the install, we only wanted them to put in the time and grout. No caulking, no toilet reinstall, no vanity, no trim work. In short, it was a simple demo and install job. The problem came when I saw the invoice and realized they charged us for four hours of work for the demo, when they only spent two hours working. They also charged us for "trash removal" when all they did was dump it into our own garbage bin. For the install, it was a simple, one person project, yet they charged us their full rate for a much larger, more complicated install. I've written to them to complain about these price overages. My hope is that this was just an honest mistake and there billing was not adjusted accordingly. For now, however, I would still recommend you shop at Tile Gallerie, but I strongly recommend you do not use them for demo or install.

Over the past 40 years, my wife and I have worked with many contractors, both for renovating our…read morehomes, and for renovating dozens of rental apartments that we owned. After a few years, I developed strict criteria for hiring or rehiring contractors that I would recommend to friends. To achieve a 5-star rating from us, the contractor must do at least the following: -must have adequate experience handling the type of job that we need to be completed -must be fully licensed to handle our job and is fully insured -must have lots of experience working with the town or city where the work is to be done if permits are needed for any or all of the work -must be willing to give us 3 names of clients who they have worked with over the last 5 years that we can call for a reference -must present us with a thorough and detailed proposal including costs that are clearly laid out for the work to be done. -must tell us when and if certain aspects of the job will be sub-contracted to others who are not in their direct employ, -must present us with ideas on how we can do the work more efficiently and aesthetically. -must be easy to work with, easy to contact, have excellent communication skills and be able to discuss a difference of opinion without being defensive. -must keep us up to date on the progress of the job without having to be asked -And after the work is completed must be willing to return to correct any part of the job that was not completed to our satisfaction Southpaw readily met or exceeded the above criteria. In our case, Chris Lisinski, as our general contractor, gave us a clear and competitive proposal. He answered all of our questions over several weeks while we were reviewing other bids. Although we were hesitant to do so, circumstances beyond our control, caused us to be out of state while the work was being done. The work was extensive including gutting our 1600 square foot condo to the concrete walls, covering the popcorn ceilings and adding recessed lighting, upgrading our electrical work including adding the capacity for an EV and a tankless water heater, replacing all interior doors and windows, installing a new kitchen, replacing all flooring and adding 2 new beautiful bathrooms. Throughout the work we received 4-5 photos each day to show us the progress that day. If I had questions about the photos or other aspects of the job I could count on a prompt reply either by phone or text. Chris would promptly present me with change orders and costs so that I had no surprise costs at the end of the job. Before we found Chris, we hired an excellent interior designer named Adrienne to see beyond the cookie-cutter 80's condo and turn it into a unique and beautifully appointed home. Her design and advice resulted in our having the best-looking condo in our association. In fact, things went so well with them working together that she became part of the Southpaw team after our work was complete. She too is a gem. Overall, Chris, and Danielle his wife, are easy to work with and diligent . I could not have hoped for a better experience or outcome.
