Great trip on the Gold Rush for lings and rockfish. Aardvark was a very fun, friendly and helpful deck hand that earned every penny. I actually called him the wrong name almost all day until I realized his real name was not Bartholomew and he never said a word ( thought I'd made him a new nick name. lol). I have been on this charter boat (the Slammer) for four different trips, and all have been outstanding. The captain (Rhett) is excellent at finding the fish that we are looking for, and we have limited out at all of the trips. The deck hands have been great as well and attend to the fisherman's needs quickly and efficiently. Definitely recommend this boat, captain, and crew. read more

I recently booked a deep water ling cod trip on the charter boat hot pursuit. Through mutineer charters. After motoring out for 3 hours. We were notified that there was very little live bait on the boat. We were then notified that only 6 people at a time would be fishing. While the other 6 would have to wait for the others to catch a ling. When one was caught. That person would sit down. Then one of the waiting persons. Would then take that rod. My group was 10,11, and 12. So by the time we got a chance to fish. Over an hour had passed for the 12th person. I was number 11. After fishing for 15 minutes. The captain told us to pull our baits up. Because we were going to look for rock fish. The 12th person got less than 15 minutes fishing for lings. On a $340 Ling cod trip. We then spent the rest of the day motoring from spot to spot. On the rare occasion we did fish. It was two people to pole. So 6 poles for 12 people. More than once. We would be told to drop our baits. Only to be told a few minutes later. To bring them back up. We would then motor around for another hour. Never fishing for more than 10 minutes at a time. At the end of the day. The captain announced that we were at our final spot. And everyone would be using their own pole finally. This was done to limit the boat out as fast as possible. The captain and deckhand. Were keeping fish so small. There was barely a filet on some of them. Even though the fishing at the final spot was very good. We were forced to take very small juvenile sized rock fish. Overall this was a very terrible experience. I've never heard of hiring a charter. And being forced to either wait to fish. Or share a pole. If the boat is only going to fish 6 people. Then only 6 seats should be booked. After dealing with this all day. Only to have everyone given a pole at the end of the day. Because the captain wanted to limit the boat asap. Shows hot pursuit, and mutineer charters. Care more for the money. Than their clients experience. I will never use mutineer charters. Or recommend the hot pursuit. The captain barely spoke a word to anyone. After experiencing all of this. I'm very confident in saying. Mutineer charters, and the hot pursuit. Do not care about their clients experience. They care about putting as many people on the boat as possible. Even if half of those people. Have to watch the other half fish. Bait must be outrageously expensive as well. Because even though the boat was paid over $4,000 for that day. There was enough bait. To bait each pole one time. That's 6 live baits. On a $340 a seat trip. That was billed as a deep water ling cod trip. The people that had to wait to fish. Didn't even get a fresh bait put on. We were forced to reuse the person's before us bait. After paying that much for a ling cod trip. Only to get to fish for lings. For 15 minutes. I would recommend looking elsewhere if you're looking to book a fishing a trip. The person I spoke with to book the trip. Was very accommodating before I paid for the trip. However after the trip. Trying to speak to them was very unpleasant. In trying to ask if what I experienced was normal procedure. They were very rude, and dismissive. They tried to imply none of what happened. Was out of the ordinary. And standard operating procedure. I didn't even ask for a refund. I was just asking very fair questions. After the experience I had the hot pursuit. If you are booking a trip. Don't take the risk of having a trip like ours. Nobody deserves a trip like that. We could have booked a light tackle trip elsewhere. For half the price. And still had a chance to catch a ling cod. There is to many other good captains, and charters booking companies out there. Willing to put in the time, and effort. To give clients the best experience they're able to. To deal with hot pursuit/mutineer charters, and the way they do business. There was not one happy person on the boat. By the time we headed back in. Except for the captain that got paid over $4,000 for that trip. Maybe he will be able to afford enough bait now. read more

I decided to take my son's, and grandsons on our first charter for father's day celebration. It should give us something to talk about for a few years. My son's and grandsons all caught Halibut and other fish. I didn't catch a Halibut but I caught enough other fish to fill out my freezer quite well. Went out on my first chartered trip on the Reel Electric. Salmon/rockfish combo. Let's just say our captain knew what was going on out there. Only negative is we spent a lot more time running between spots than fishing, but even that wasn't really negative, because the reason we spent less time fishing was that when we stopped, we straight up got 'em. It took just over a half hour to pick up our limit of kings, and it took about 20 minutes to catch our rockfish limit. Yup... just like in a river or on a lake, it helps to know where to go. Anyway, fun fishing with a great crew and a captain who knows where and how to get 'em. Also had a humpback hanging around the boat a bit; always something great to see out there. Had a great time on board the Slammer! Caught tons of rock fish and ling cod. Captain Rhett and the crew were very polite and helpful. The boat was in good shape and had plenty of places to hang out while in transit, and it was easy to move around and fish from different spots on the rail. Had hot coffee for us too! They have a very well kept store as well - friendly staff, hoodies/shirts, and free ice and more coffee for the trip home!! Very nice. One perk you might consider is to offer ear plugs, some may find the stern a bit loud with the diesel engine. read more

My husband and two sons went out this last Saturday with Skipper Ben and crew. It was incredible. They had an exceptional time and came home with about 40lbs of fish! Skipper was amazing, taking my 7 year old son under his wing, talking and fishing with him during the whole charter. My 9 year old caught the most fish of the day and had the biggest Lingcod! We will 100% book any charter with Skipper Ben. His crew was professional, kind, fun, and the boys had a blast watching them fillet all the fish on the way back in. What a trip! The Captain Kevin and Deckhand Russel of the Gold Rush really made this adventure truly rememberable. We brought 11 guys out for a bachelor party and through incredibly tough seas, several guys getting sick, and tough conditions, these guys were absolute pros. 20 foot waves were navigated excellently and after we got out to open waters and on fish, everyone was focused on creating a great experience for the guests.
