Went on a Salmon charter August 8th, 2021. This would be my second big boat charter out of Westport, the first being a bottom fishing trip with a different company. We didn't get skunked, but only got maybe 5 keepers on a boat of ~19 people. The captain tried hard to find the fish, but it seemed like no boats were doing well that day given the radio conversations I overheard. That's fine it happens. The deckhand was mostly fine if a little brash and impatient for newbie mistakes. Besides the fishing itself there were definitely other things that could be improved. The boat cabin interior was filthy. Dirty and broken sink, left over food, overflowing trash and random crap strewn about. Looked like a frat house. The coffee included for guests was like stale Folgers. There wasn't a good system to store your stuff so it ended getting sat on or kicked around by other people. The captain could not smoke. I mean I'm already breathing diesel exhaust for hours on end, I don't need second hand smoke too. Probably also made sea sickness worse for people who had it. read more

I wished we would have paid more attention to the reviews prior booking our trip as it appears this company is lacking in customer service. We booked a combo trip three weeks in advance for August 30th on the Pacific Fin. The day before my cousin gets a call telling us to report to the office at 6:00 for check in and the boat would leave at 6:30, we thought that was a little late to start but figured they knew what they were doing. So to start with we asked when they close the day before as we like to check in and save the rush in the morning, the office gal told us 5:00. We show up at 4:30 and the place is closed, no sign, nothing. So we head to the hotel. The next morning we get to the office at 6:00 as directed, walk in and the gal tells us with no regard, the skipper is sick and they have to cancel the trip and they could only refund or book us for another day. After spending $400 on hotel and food we were a little frustrated. One thing that was peculiar was all the other boats were gone at this point, I'm mean all of them the marina was still. We think they either canceled like some of the other reviews said or they knew the skipper was sick and we're extending our start time in hopes he would recover. We would hope that wasn't the case but if they did know the day before or earlier that morning there was a chance he would be ill we might have been able to catch another boat with another charter. With that said we will never charter with Ocean again as it sounds like this happens regularly. The biggest disappointment was my cousins grandson looking so forward to his second charter trip and seeing his face when we were told the news. Fishers beware! read more

Collected my money then cancelled my trip two times and have still not refunded me or returned my calls!! They have zero regard for the money people spend for accommodations and they cancel last minute so your out your camping or hotel money as well. Will be filing a small claims suit against them since apparently they think they can just ghost me and keep my money. Use any other company than this one! Took my money, and pushed me onto another company!! Bad news with these guys. I will make this short and to the point. Here are the facts: I made a reservation in April 2018 for 22 July 2018, 7 fishing spots on a 24 person boat and paid the down payment. On 5 July 2018, they contacted me to tell me that I have been pushed onto another company because they overbooked. I asked them to provide me with a copy of the cancellation policy, and nowhere in there did it state they could take my money and push me off onto another company because they overbooked. The policy states the captain has the right to cancel the trip. I asked if the captain was cancelling, and she said "No, but you are goin to another company." This is not in their cancellation policy. When I informed Kristi that we WILL NOT be switching to another company, and if they do, than I will file a complaint. She said that I threatened her and than she cancelled our spots on the charter. Who pays for the family airfare on the non refundable tickets? I have contacted BBB, and I assume that these guys will contact me too. Before you book, ask if they have the right to collect monies from you 90 days early and push you onto another company less than 3 weeks before your trip. read more

Captain works hard to get you on the fish. Sometimes he is successful, sometime not. I give this two stars because the deckhand is careless with fish that are not able to be retained, often ripping hooks out of native coho when he forcefully puts them back in he ocean. Inevitably fish with entire fins ripped off will not survive. While it is not required that he ensure the native fish survive, It obviously would not take any more effort to take care of these fish. read more

My wife and I booked a trip to whale watch April 15, 2021 on the Good Life. We had an amazing time and we highly recommend the trip to anyone who wants to see gray whales at a reasonably close (but safe) distance. We were looking at whales within five minutes of leaving the boat basin and never out of sight of them after that. At one place, we found three or four feeding on ghost shrimp in shallow water of about 12 feet. We saw spouts, backs, tails and pectoral fins coming out of the water. We didn't see any breaches, but that isn't common for gray whales. The captain was very knowledgeable about the whales and a lot of other aspects of the Grays Harbor area. In short, this was a first-rate trip and at $60 a person, decently priced. read more

The deckhands were very impatient and bossy. The captain had no clue were the salmon were biting. I brought my son in law on a charter with them. He had never fished before and needed a lot of help. The deck hand yelled at him several times and gave confusing info to him. I won't be booking any more charters with this business. read more

Had a very disappointing Halibut trip on 9/10/20. We were one of 18 fishermen to board the Angler. We were told to be at the office for check-in at 4:45am with a departure of 5:30. The Capt showed up to dock at 5:30 and the boat left port at 6:00. We traveled for almost 4 hrs to start fishing, but the boat only had 6 poles to fish with. The first 6 people that checked in were sent to the rail with poles to fish. A few had success, but several others struggled and the remaining customers were only brought to a pole when another had successfully boated a keeper fish. One customer lost 3-4 fish and continued to struggle in spite of help from the crew. After 3 1/2 hours of watching others fish, the Capt announced that 4 of us, whom had not touched a pole, would be given a chance to try and catch a fish. The guy who had lost all the fish and remained unsuccessful was upset and pouted in the cabin while the crew tried to get him to try again once poles were available. An argument took place between the pouting fisherman and a deck hand which made the rest of us very uncomfortable. We were not informed, prior to going, that there would only be 6 poles for the 18 of us fishermen, even though the boat could have accommodated enough poles. Since most of my trip was spent watching others fish, I would not recommend this charter provider and will not be returning. I will find a boat that I can actually fish from. read more

When I called to make a reservation, they told me that we'd be fishing for halibut, lingcod, and rockfish if there's enough time. It turns out the trip didn't include rockfish at all. I was excited to fish for multiple species in one day. They book maximum of 6 people but only allow 3-4 people to fish at a time so you end up sitting out a lot. Their boats are old and slow compared to other charters nearby. We had 3 crew members and 6 customers and they told us that we'll move onto fishing for lingcod after everyone catches one halibut limit. This of course included the crew members' catch so customers are also subsidizing the crew members experience. WTF? We had to sit around and wait until there was 9 halibut total onboard. Needless to say we ran out of time before moving onto lingcod fishing. Very disappointed read more

They do their own shirt pressing so if there is something you'd like in a different color, size, etc. they'll make one to your request. They have Wesport shirts and some other not so common shirts like "Fisherman Lies Matter", "Make Fishing Great Again", got crabs, bar wench, WA sport fishing and more. They have hoodies and t-shirts sized small to xxl. They also rent crabbing gear, 10 bucks gets you all the gear you need and some bait. I have not tried their Charter service. read more

Was excited to go halibut fishing with friends, until this trip got started. I can't believe they over booked this trip, there were 16 guests and 4 crew members. So many people on this little boat there wasn't even a spot to sit. 14 hours on a boat is a long time to stand. The bottom line is it was a nightmare and I would not recommend this charter to anyone one of the worse charters of my life. read more

We flew up from Arizona and paid $550 per person (3 people) for what was supposed to be a 2 day tuna trip. Ended up leaving Friday around midnight because it only took 5 hours to get to where the tuna were. We were supposed to fish all day Saturday and Sunday. But a big storm was coming in on Sunday so we ended coming back Saturday night and had to find a place to stay. After a week and a half, half a dozen calls to the shop, and numerous failed attempts to either get a partial refund or even just some more fishing, the captain said the best they'd do is give us each a $50 voucher for next time. Are you kidding me?!!!! Don, the captain, did his best to put us on fish and we had a great time while we were out on the water. But from a customer service aspect I feel like we got absolutely shafted! How hard would it be to say "I know we came back a day early so if you want the difference between 3-one day trips and 3-two day trips (which I calculate at $450)" then great. Or "fly back up and we'll comp one of your party a one day trip (valued around $400)." What do they have to lose by letting me get the fishing I actually paid for in? What pricks. read more

Well, How do I spell dissapointment! Ocean Sportfishing Charters at Westport Washington. We have chartered MANY boats, with nothing but RAVE reviews for all from the Westport Marinas! ALL BUT ONE!!!!! How do I spell dissapointment? Let us start with the fact that when we checked in the day before we were told to show up AN HOUR after we were due to leave, the boat almost left without us, yet someone else was told to show up even LATER than we. We are being chastised by boating staff for showing up even BEFORE, the people we spoke to for check in told us to!?! WHo is to BLAME HERE!?! I even asked the woman when I checked in the day before, "Are you sure? We have never had such a late check in?" She said, "No you're all set Sweety" without even double checking for me! We show up with an old lady yelling at us from the pier, "Their about to leave you, you should never be this late!" Of course we have no time to tell them the lady in the office yesterday told us to be there even 15 minutes later than we were. But our point was proven, when even 10 minutes later than us, yet another group shows up with the same idea, given to them from the lady in the shop the day before, not to show up until 6:00 a.m., which I KNEW was unheard of, and is why we were only 15 minutes late, yet still screamed at and chastised by staff, even though we were told to be there at 6 a.m. But that was just the beginning of the dissapointment. We were told we would have great fishing, we had addequate fishing, and may have actually been able to catch something if half our family was not being innendated with chain smoking staff!!!! We could not find a place on the ship, even in the cab where we could escape the constant cigarette smoke! Most of the other passengers were kind enough to choose one side of the ship to fish, after we let them know we were allergic to the ciggarette smoke, however, the staff of the RANGER, were not so kind, even taking every opportunity to come and light up right in the cabin, while knowing full well we were having a hard time with all the smoke, only captain Dan was kind enough not to do so. But Both deck hands were quite uncaring of both mine my two sons, and two other passengers who were having a hard time dealing with the about 30 people chain smoking, as we were all un used to being around ANY cigarette smoke, and despite ourt constant request the five of us were left to founder unnattended to! Shame on you!!!! The staff should put the guests first and their own habits second. ou made all our trips horrible! I got to talk to these other people, they are shy in person, but we are all bloggers! WOW TO YOU for not making our trip SHIP SHAPE! Money is scarce these days, you should do ALL YOU CAN TO KEEP CUSTOMERS!!!! I am so DISSAPOINTED in our trip! Not catching fish is okay, but having inconsiderate staff, and non helpful crew is another story! We also had a passanger who fell and was injured quite badly without any staff even worrying themsleves at all, she was never even offered an ice pack! You people are HORRIBLE. We will NEVER use this charter again, not if there was a flood coming and they were our only chance for a boat, I would rather take an aluminum dingy!!!!! By the way to the friend or first mate who thinks I'm a relative of a competitor, NO, I am a legitimate consumer, just a VERY dissapointed customer, PLUS they never even cared enough to contact me and see if they could apologize, even when I told them I was not happy with service. read more

I have fished on the Ranger several times and have never been disappointed. Don (skipper) always treats customers with respect and professionalism. The boat is always clean, well managed, and leaves on time. Several times Don stayed out much longer than required in attempt to get everyone their fish. Went fishing on the Ranger out of Ocean Sportfishing Charters located in Westport Washington for bottom fish. Check in was smooth & fast. The lady at the office was very informative & answered all my questions. Boarded the Ranger exactly at the exact time I was told to board. Big boat! Lots of room for my stuff. The Captain gave us a informative briefing on safety at sea & how we were going to fish. Traveled about 2 hours to the fishing hole. Right off the bat, the bass were really hungry. Hooking two at a time. The deck hands were Johnny on the spot with helping take them off the hook. Got our limit within a hour. We left that area for ling cod fishing in another area. They didn't bite as fast as the bass, but got our limits. What a fun day. The crew was very professional & the captain really gave us a fun trip. Sure would go with them again. read more
