First let me say that I have not been to Germany nor have I eaten at a German restaurant before tonight. My experience with German food may not be typical of restaurant fare. My wife is of German descent and I have had the pleasure of home cooked German dishes for several years, both at home and at her family gatherings. I was with a large group this evening and the place was crowded so that may have played into my negative experience. The food's flavor was good but it wasn't up my expectations. The service was ok under the circumstances but not excellent by any means. The dinner rolls were room temperature, not hot. The salad was good. As I said, they were busy but it took almost an hour to get our meals. I've never had German potato salad what was not served hot. This seemed as if it had been refrigerated then left out for awhile. I wasn't cold but slightly cooler than room temperature. Other than that, the rest of the food was good, not great, but plenty of it. Pay out was a different story. I left a 20% tip on the table. At check out, I purchased a tee shirt for my wife. I didn't check my receipt, I just signed it as I often do and that is my fault. After I arrived home I looked at the receipt and the numbers didn't seem to match up. I played with the numbers for a few minutes and figured out what had happened. I was charged for the meal plus sales tax, then the tee shirt plus sales tax, and that was fine. That's what I owed. But then another 20% gratuity was added to the total bill including the price of tee shirt and its sales tax. This brought the meal to just under double what the menu listed as the price of the meal. The sales receipt has the standard blank line to add a tip so I had no idea that one had already been added. I may try another German restaurant in the future but I won't be back to this one. read more

This is the real deal! I was working in Lawton for 2 weeks, so read positive Yelp reviews and tried Mutti's for lunch: I felt like I'd been transported to a beer hall in Germany! Polka-type music playing, long tables w/ checkered tablecloths, and a friendly Frau to greet me. I ordered Ziegauner Snitzel, a large, perfectly breaded and fried piece of pork w/ a delicious paprika gravy plus sautéed peppers. The sides of red cabbage and cucumber salad were homemade and equally delicious. And the portions were enormous! I polished off my meal with one of the signature desserts: Hazelnut Torte, absolutely delicious. Best of all, the service was efficient, sincere, and intent on making my visit enjoyable. On our first visit to Lawton, Oklahoma, we accessed YELP for restaurant recommendations. We felt very welcomed at Mutti's as soon as we walked into the restaurant! The decor and background music, plus German language conversations of other customers, were straight out of Octoberfest in Germany! German transplant Renata took great care of us at our table. To say the least, she would not let us depart hungry! We started with an appetizer of potato pancakes, then juicy cheeseburgers on buttery light pretzel rolls with sides of German potato salad and spaetzles. (Most of the meat entries were pork, which we do not eat. BUT, on Thursdays, they serve Beef Rouladen, our all time German favorite dish. We will return on a Thursday for that speciality!) Desserts to go were two pieces of Strudel. Wish we lived closer than the two hour fifteen minute drive. Don't miss this gem! read more

This place is FUN! German kitschy decor, friendly staff, bier garten style seating, good German beers, desserts, and shnitzel! This is a terrific hole in the wall for authentic German food and fun. They also sell fresh eggs to go that are from one of the server's farm nearby. We took home a dozen and they were wonderful! read more

Came in town from Amarillo headed to Fort Worth then to Bryan and in Lawton looked for somewhere to eat and we found mutti's German resturant and was a good find. Checked Yelp first and since it had great reviews we decided to try it out. It is like you are eating in a German home. The people are freindly and the food is great. I got the sampler plate which gave you a little of everything. It was very good. I would recommend you stop here the next time you are coming to Lawton Oklahoma. It's out of the area of all the fast food but worth the extra few minutes to mutti's. read more

Last month was my second trip to Mutti's. My first was more than four years ago, and when our group was passing through Lawton, looking for a restaurant, I remembered how good the food was here. It's not located where you might expect a good restaurant, but the crowded parking lot should be a clue. The food is some of the best I've had, German or otherwise, and the service is excellent. Legitimate German food and beer!! Walked in and felt like I was in a German beer hall. Oktoberfest is 10 days away and this will do. The staff was speaking German to their guests and to us. Awesome. Got a sampler plate that was delicious- three wursts, schnitzel (perfectly cooked), home fries- yum, German potato salad (my favorite of all of it), leberkase, and sauerkraut (reg and red). My husband and I went there when we first moved here. We came from Germany and was told to try this place out. Horrible mistake. First, the place was dark and dingy feeling. Secondly, it took us 15 minutes to get someone over to take the drink order. Once they finally come we wait another 10 to 15 have our order taken. Fast forward to 40 minutes later we finally get our food. Our kids are starving by this point, yet our food was COLD. Refrigerator cold, (only a slight exaggeration). I bring it to the attention of the waitress, she asks me if I want her to put it in the microwave. Wait, what? The microwave? No, I would like to have a meal that was made within the last 10 minutes and is stil warm from the pan it was cooked in. *assuming it WAS a pan and not actually the microwave she mentioned*, she takes ther plays, nukes them, brings them back & they are barely warm, but now have a rubbery texture too them. Needless to say we didn't even get to eat. My youngest, 2 at the time, has now begun to lose her mind. It's time to go. I've had enough. We left paying for the drinks and the meal my husband had, because you know, soldiers, they " have eaten worse " and could care less. We left to go to Sonic because it was the closest thing we could find. This review is from our experience approximately 5 years ago, as we have not been back since. I hope it has changed since then.
