There is zero security in the parking lot. Now, I catch the bus or Uber here, depending on if I'm in a hurry. I do like the Clipper Card only, which has been in effect for a while. They also upgraded the Bart fare gates, so the fare jumpers can't just jump over like they used too. The prices are still reasonable, way better, and quicker, than driving!!

But despite not being as heavily used for the sporting events at this station is still pretty high traffic. Which, for the most part, it feels safe and I've never had an issue here. I've used this station quite a bit recently since I've been working in the area and had to fly in and out of Oakland Airport. But it is a sad reminder to see the empty and defunct coliseum every time I use this station because I grew up an Oakland A's fan and a Golden State Warriors fan.

Just know that it's going to charge your clipper card a little bit more at this stop for obvious reasons. But otherwise a pretty relax full ride after a flight or getting onto one.

Next stop at the actual BART station was easy; however, a couple of the machines were not in service so it took a lil while to get our Clipper cards. An easy walk down to the platform to wait for the trains, although a bit ghetto, I didn't feel unsafe (at the time) and it was much lighter with riders than when I have taken it to and fr SFO.

Half the drivers are related to Oscar the Grouch and the Grinch who stole Christmas. And in actuality the shuttle isn't free because Oakland residents have a special assessment on their property tax, requiring us to pay for this unreliable service. As a tax paying Oakland resident, I'd rather stop paying taxes on this service and get rid of it.

If you are taking taking the ferry/bart from the city, spending a day near Lake Merritt, Old Oakland, City Center, Chinatown or Jack London Square, this free service allows you to roam up and down downtown length of Broadway fairly easily. There are a dozen or so stops-pretty much located by anything you'd want to go to. There are some flaws. The scheduled time of one bus every 15 minutes doesn't always happen. Most times you are looking at a 20-30 minute wait. It can be super packed, especially the stretch that runs by Chinatown, so it's highly likely you'll be standing or at least sharing a not very comfortable seat most of the way. Some of the drivers are super professional others not so much. Mostly however it's pretty awesome. For one it's free and allows you to easily roam all over downtown Oakland. This makes it easy to bounce down to Chinatown or swans market form the office buildings near lake merrit for lunch or dinner, or a spot of shopping. Handy for getting to jack london square or the amtrak station as well. Perfect for happy hour bar hops. Did I mention the free part? 'Cause that's the best thing evah.

Compared to cities where the subway lines go underground, the above-ground BART cars can be a bit tricky to figure out at first, but once you know where the stop is, just locate which side of the road has the car going in your desired direction. They may not be directly across the street from each other, so some walking may be involved. I found the BART to be clean, efficient, and an affordable way to get around the San Francisco Bay Area.

Tip: Download the SF Ferry App to save time & get schedules. Upper & Lower deck seating. Indoor or deck seating. Plenty of tables, bankette seating. Place for strollers, bicycles. Snack bar that serves alcohol like wine, beer & mimosas to small snacks. The view to San Francisco is beautiful arriving & departing Gate G. The closest street is Mission. When you arrive it's easy to get on the Muni system, a trolley, a tour bus, or an Uber/Lyft. If you're going to SF Giants game or the Chase Center, there's a special events Ferry for that. Don't worry if your event ends late, the special events ferry will take you back to Alameda &!Oakkand. Study the schedules to plant plenty enough time to travel. For example. I arrived at Gate G and I was going to The Presidio District. There's a free Go shuttle, but it takes about 40 minutes to get there with all the stops. If you're running short on time, grab a taxi or an Uber to drop you off quicker. Since then, I have taken the Ferry four more times. Why did I wait so long. Next is the BART system. Dumb. Today the ferry was full- many had been waiting in line for half an hour. Would've been nice…read moreif someone counted out the passengers so we didn't have to wait around only to be told we wouldn't get on. Plus, the damn inconvenience- the Clipper Card website and app are super annoying. The website makes you upload your credit card, only to redirect you to the Apple Store to download the app in your phone which then requires you to reenter your same credit card because the 2 don't work together. The fee is $5.10 in each direction but the card only uploads in whole dollars and tries to get you to upload $10, $20 or $50 at a time. Don't fall for it- just type in the amount $11. Still, what a way to skim money off people, ugh. There is no explanation on how to do any of this at the actual landing so unless you came with someone who told you how to get a clipper card, it'll take you quite a while to jump through the hoops to get one. Also, they require each passenger to have their own clipper card, so even if your family is willing to pay for your fare, they can't. You still have to upload your own clipper card. And after all the time it takes to do this, you will probably just miss the ferry anyway, just like us.

This station does not have a ticket station, or bathrooms. There's seating and trash containers. The area is not the cleanest and I have seen homeless individuals near the station. The train I boarded was crowded. Where was everyone going on a late Friday morning. Maybe spring break... The trains are always dirty so I take my Clorox wipes and Lysol to wipe and spray down my seats. There's a handful of seats on bottom train compartment and ample seating upstairs. There's racks for your bike and luggage. Restrooms provided throughout the train as well as, the cafe for snacks. Overall, a pleasant ride despite the loud noise coming from the kids laptop across from me.

But the security staff.....talk about unprofessional and rude, spent 40.00 at the Shibe Park Tavern..1 beer and 1 cocktail, The Mavs & Thunder were playing on the TV's at the bar........just watching the game....and the security staff threatened us that we better leave now, not even allowed to finish our drinks or even finish a freakin peanut! The security staff was doing their job???? But rude, we are paying customers. At the end of the day, I blame the trash ownership and the A's - no wonder they are leaving, I wouldn't ever come back here to see a concert, even if Michael Jackson came back from the grave! We have our shiny new entry/exit gates that reduce the risk of fare evasion! They even fixed a gap between the gate access entry and the new gates which I saw someone jump on day one. Now, you gotta really want it to get in and out for free, and frankly, I don't think the fare evasion community has what it takes with these new gates. We are back in the 5 star Yelp game people!
