I love going to MVP sports plex I use the facility every day especially living within walking distance of the club. I am somewhat sad about my membership no longer being honored by Priorty Health I have made many friends at the club. I am uncertain what I am going to do as far as staying. I wish they had a membership for seniors that would make the club more affordable I know they are offering a 47.00 for 6 mo than it goes up which would really put a strain on my income. hopefully at some point they can have a special senior rate. However I highly recommend MVP and if you have a family it's a must for the outdoor pool in the summer time. Like I said earlier I am very sad that this is coming to an end for me. read more

I really did not want to make this review, but after consistent negative experiences I feel as if I have to make other people aware of the services and experiences you'll be getting at MVP pools. I used to go to MVP the majority of my middle school through high school years and I absolutely LOVED it. There were the obvious rules of no running, but overall, it was an amazing experience with amazing Life Guards that were fun and approachable. This is applying to both locations, crahen and sportsplex. It's been about 3 or 4 years since I was a member, and I rejoined because I had a son and wanted something fun for us to do. I am going to keep it for the rest of the summer for my son alone, but I don't think I will be coming back unless there are some changes in personality and/or rules. There are a few rules that I am regarding, but overall it's really just the delivery from the lifeguards that I find completely rude. There is the obvious rule of no running, which I'm not complaining about. I'm more so complaining about the way the lifeguards tell children. It's a very deep and stern "STOP RUNNING"... no please or anything. They will stand by their chairs and rudely scream over and over again. When I was a member in my teen years, there would be a whistle and a "no running, please" and it was nicely delivered and usually nicely taken. If it's a family friendly place, I would honestly expect a bit more kindness and overall manners. Now the rule I am going to complain about that I think everyone should be aware of: you cannot be more than like 5 feet away from your child if they are in the water, and that applies even if they are wearing LIFE GUARD APPROVED floaties. I understand it to a certain extent but it's the reasoning that I get told and hear explained multiple times that truly baffles me: "in case anything happens, you're going to be right there and we don't want anything to happen"... I beg my finest pardon, but what's the point of having life guards then??? Are they there just to yell at us and tell us to be closer to our kids and in some ways, parent? Not to mention, there are multiple signs posted all over the property that says "SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK", but that's clearly not the case. These situations have mostly occurred at the Sportsplex outdoor pool, but my mom has had a bad experience at the crahen baby pool but I can't speak to cause I wasn't present. It is clear, especially to parents so maybe that's where I'm getting a disconnect(?), which children are comfortable in the water and which ones are not. With that being said, the children that aren't comfortable in the water are already accompanied by a parent. I have seen multiple children today alone that have been pulled that were happily swimming and asked where their parents were. At this point, it seems that the lifeguards just don't want to do their jobs and when they do it, it's done poorly. I'm continuing my membership solely because my son enjoys pools and swimming, but would I ever recommend this place as an enjoyable family experience? Absolutely not. read more

This gym is incredible. The energy here is awesome! I've had a couple trainers (Steph, Ryan, and Cooper) and they've all had such a positive impact on my life.... they're really talented. And Justin is such a great manager. The club itself has a great turf, lots of working machines, wonderful studios, indoor and outdoor pools, kiddie pools, huge play area, basketball courts, etc. etc. The locker rooms are always clean. Sherri at the front desk is so lovely and always helps me out... the hand scan doesn't for me? Kate has done a wonderful job with this club. Makes me proud to be a member. read more

I have been a member at MVP for a couple of years now. It's one of the largest facilities in GR with multiple locations. Second only to the Y. The location here at Burton and East Paris is usually pretty busy, they have a large pool and lots of kids use it in the Summer months. The parking lot is substantial. I use my membership primarily for tennis classes and tennis lessons. I have weekly lessons here and often attend the "free swing" class which is 45 min of drills and games free of charge for members. They also have various "cardio tennis" classes which are a mix of running laps and tennis drills. There are 6 top notch courts and they regularly replace the balls. The rest of the gym is just kind of mediocre. The locker rooms smell like chorine because of the pool, and the bathrooms are fine but not as nice as they could be. Considering MVP is one of the priciest gyms around, its debatable whether I'm getting enough use out of it. I wish this location had a walk/run track like the Rockford location and the Y do. I don't work out here regularly aside from tennis so I have little opinion as far as the other machines go. I know they are located on the upper level of the facility and it usually seems to be busy up there. MVP is a hopping spot, the price makes it seem more pretentious that it is in actuality. read more

DO NOT LEAVE ANY VALUABLES IN CAR! Numerous car break in's. Wished an exterior security camera would be installed in the parking lot - given that it is not safe to leave items in the locker either. Like the location, equipment and staff. Locker facilities (showers and sauna) need more cleaning attention. Part of locker room's carpet in need of replacement or "Deep Clean". Plastic sauna mat ( instead of wood) gets hot. Please request guests to refrain from shaving in sauna, drying workout cloth in sauna or leaving used towels behind. It makes no sense to restrict the therapy pool to one instructor and one three year old, and not allow anyone else in who needs the therapy. The kid doesn't care. The only one who cares is the instructor, who can jolly well move his/her operation to one corner. read more

MVP has several locations, which is nice. I usually use the clubs at Crahen or Burton streets. They are well equipped and well lit. Both locations have basketball gyms and turf areas. The staff at Crahen is friendly, I find the floor staff at Burton to be cold. Good group fitness classes at both locations, good but costly indoor tennis courts, outdoor courts at Crahen are great. Big props for the paddle tennis facility at Crahen. A few things they could do better: 1. Train members as often as necessary that sitting on machines or benches between sets -just sitting or checking phones-is the opposite of gym protocol. 2. When there is no class or personal training in session, why do you forbid members from using the turf area? I cannot fathom a good, customer-focused reason for restricting access. 3. Very few people use the row of stack weight cable machines across from the turf at Crahen. Take a poll and see what people want and replace that stuff. read more

The Sportsplex is the mothership MVP in Grand Rapids. It has everything, including a dry sauna, spa, and whirlpool in the locker rooms. They also have portable shower benches in most every shower, plus numerous wardrobe racks, and a private dressing room. The pool is well managed, friendly life guards, and some equipment available to use for free with swimming drills. The weight-lifting/machine area is also well managed, and members are respectful in sharing between sets. The group exercise area is open to all members for use to stretch or isometrics, etc. Same with the basketball courts. Tennis courts are managed by appointment. Cardio equipment area is in front of televisions and a view of the pool. There are about five treadmills that are in a more discreet area of the cardio area. read more

My family has been going here for years, and it's definitely changed a lot. The locker room and showers are always clean, and the equipment upstairs has been updated many times. I've also played tennis here numerous times and have had no issues! There is something here for everyone: from the outdoor pool, lap pool, classes, equipment, and tennis courts. Yes, it's definitely pricier for a gym, but if your employer has discounts be sure to take advantage of that! I'm not even a member on my family's account anymore, but they accumulate a couple of guest passes over time that I can use whenever I'm home which is really nice. read more

They hate kids with autism, let me tell u why: So their rules to their water slides are they can't go down head first sure, understandable, well my daughter (7) sometimes gets flipped around ONE TIME THIS HAPPENED, ONE TIME, AND WE GOT KICKED OFF. Which that was the hole point of potentially buying a membership. The manger was rude, I told her we hadn't even been there ten mins, she didn't care talked right over about the rules, then finally when I got time to speak I asked her " so you mean to tell me your going to punish my child for this, ONE TIME, plus we didn't know the rules yet. She goes, we have plenty of kids that has what your daughter does, and we kick them out all the time too, rules are rules sorry. So I was going to go into its people like you that don't give a kid a chance when this is the only thing were here for, but I was so upset at people not being educated and they discriminate like it's no big deal! So guess what if I have to make it my life's mission to educate but let parents know how people are being treated. Membership? HA NEVER!! MVP -- broken-off and missing locker room doors, treadmills with TV screens so worn out and fuzzy that you cannot see any detail, inoperable heartrate monitors on most of the treadmills, staff that stands around when they could be wiping down machines and engaging with members...this place seems more about member recruitment than running a tight operation. Sad, that such a new facility seems to be going downhill, so fast. Not a place that I would bring my friends...until management gets their act together. Decent workout classes, though! This MVP is large and fairly well maintained. The staff tends to be helpful and reasonably friendly. We have a family membership here and the kids have been taking swimming lessons here for a few years. Mrs. Sandy is an exceptional swim instructor for the little ones. The inside recreational pool is typically clean and comfortable while the inside lap pool is a bit cooler but is always clean. The outside splash pad, water slide and public pool areas are always well maintained but there is a mandatory break every hour on the hour while folks undergo swim testing for the aquatic play structure (the "Wibit".) The inside area has a fairly large gym that is never overly busy. There are always exercise classes going on, but I have never been to one of them (my wife has and has said they are pretty good.) There's a court for basketball and I've played Walleyball here as well. There is a place up front that you can drop your kids off and they can play around while you work out or attend a class or whatever. If I have one gripe about this location, it's the locker rooms and restroom areas. They seem to be the most poorly maintained of the areas and always smell like they need a good bleachin' down - thus, I rarely change here but rather go home in my gear and shower there. Other than that, I think this is a pretty good and versatile family sports complex. read more

We have a family membership at this MVP facility on Burton Street. The childrenlove the kids club and we have taken advantage this year of one of their summer programs which our eldest seemed to enjoy. The outside pool was a hit as well. I give this place 4 stars for the range of services it provides, the fact that there are times when the gym crowd is pretty minimal so you can get round the equipment without having to wait. I couldn't comment on how old the treadmills are as. I really do not go there to watch TV on the screens, so as long as the equipment allows me to run I am good to go. If I could improve on one thing it may be that the staff could be more pro-active in the equipment area and perhaps ask members if they have any questions on any of the pieces of equipment or to be shown how to use them effectively. read more

Insanely Crowded. Even more insanely expensive. Staff is not helpful. Everything you don't want in a gym. Very little weight equipment for such a large gym. Need a bench? Better be there at off-peak hours. Staff doesn't seem to promote gym etiquette either. Place is also filled with "100 set let me use this bench as a seat while I check my cell phone for 5 minutes" and "let me curl the the bar in the squat rack" types. If you actually want to get a workout in, and don't want to pay ridiculous rates, look elsewhere. read more

Place is a zoo! Over crowded, over priced, not a place that makes you want to visit every day. Have fun trying to use the dumbbells without a wait... Membership office staff are a joke and will not hesitate screw you given the chance. read more

The Sales staff lied to me to get me to join, the sales manager acknowledged the sales staff mislead me but would not make the situation right. Now for the first 3 months of the membership they have double charged my account and I have go to into the office to have the charges reversed from my credit card.....this sales staff is a hot mess. read more

More of a focus on cardio and weight machines than free weights. The only time that it isn't consistently packed is 1-2 hours before closing. The sauna is never hot enough. The locker rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. read more

I have been a member since this place opened and I have watched go downhill from there. The sauna has never been warm enough. The steam room is either stone cold or too hot to stay in. That's probably because the timer has been broken most of recent memory. I have personally observed members complaining about this on 2 occasions in the past two weeks and it's still not fixed. The whirlpool needs a permanent contract with a septic tank hauler. Most days you have to break through the scum to get into the water/effluent. This place needs a top down house cleaning, facilities and staff. They have oversold their capacity. Offering valet parking doesn't solve the problems inside the place. The locker room continues to be a pig sty. A locker room attendant would go a long way toward fixing this problem especially during school breaks as most of children who are dropped off for the day don't realize/are too stupid to get that their mother doesn't work there and won't be there to pick up after them. read more
