Plenty of space for Prince's hedgehog toy

My sister had to board her pup here when she and her husband went out of town over the holidays. She noted it was a little tough to make a reservation. However, the place was affordable, the staff was nice, and her pup survived the separation from his paw-rents. I had to drive to MWR kennels after my parents had dropped off her dog because they didn't bring him a dog bed or towel, just his food. It was a wild ride through Halawa using google maps. I could not, for the life of me, find the place. Directions from both my mom and sister were useless and a couple times I ended up almost driving into a quarry. I came to my senses and pulled over to the side of the road to check out fellow Yelpers' pictures and reviews, and was able to find the kennels. Basically, you are pulling into the area where the Animal Quarantine station is located. Then, keep an eye out for the faded MWR Pet Kennels signs! I missed the one off the main road, which was what got me lost for what seemed like an eternity. They have a couple more signs on the road leading to the kennels. It would not be my first choice for pet boarding, but if you have military access it's a more affordable alternative to boarding facilities on island.

I have to leave a review because when I left my special needs girl here for a week, I was nervous. But I have to acknowledge that this facility had availability when others didn't because of how much space they have to offer. Their prices are understandably priced, not gouged like others. They even texted me with updates while my pet boarded. Most importantly, my pet was safe and unharmed when I came to pick her up. You can't trust everyone to watch your fur babies, but MWR proved to me that they are recommendable

Avoid this place if at all possible. Both the customer service and pet care was abysmal. Unfortunately, I had to board my dogs here after receiving notice of the death of a family member and needing to fly out within 24 hours. The staff approved my dogs' vaccination status the day prior to drop off, but gave me conflicting information at drop off and had me sign a waiver for an annual vaccine despite the fact that it was still current. The next day I was asked to pay an additional fee for medication distribution and endured a series of three phone calls with various staff and management where I repeatedly had to explain that the multivitamin chew I had prepackaged with their meals was not prescription medication. Two days later I received two videos of my dogs who had been injured and were actively bleeding. The wounds on their noses had gotten progressively worse from day to day in the videos. Due to their business hours being restricted to 10am-2pm, we had to pay for an additional night as our return flight arrived later in the afternoon. The staff made no attempt to assist us in picking up the dogs outside of that 4-hour window. When I arrived for pick-up no one was able to explain how the dogs got injured, nor did they make any attempt to rectify the issue. We were given no information on how the dogs did while in their care, if they ate, pottied or drank properly. Anytime we were on the facility grounds other boarded dogs barked continuously and aggressively at us and no attempt was made by the staff to make it a hospitable environment for owners or pets. My dogs returned home exhausted, bleeding, dehydrated and hungry. Please avoid risking your pet's health and safety here.

I Do not recommend. I picked our dog up today and a big piece of his hair on his face was cut out by the kennel. He was there for 15 days and I paid extra for daily brushing. He was very dirty and our groomer had to wash him twice and shave his leg due to matting. I called and checked on him and no mention of any problems. Will NOT use again.

Our Love Pup

Dropped off our 2 pets, a 14 month old German Shepherd and a 12 year old cockapoo on 9 December. No health issues ever presented with either dog, both dogs had been housed here before. Received a phone call around 1500 on Thursday evening, the 12th of December that our German Shepherd had received a scratch on his nose due to trying to get at the dog in the kennel next to his and that they had been fighting. No other mentions of issues at that time, no concern or mention of further need for treatment simply an informative call. Received a phone call at 0700 on Friday morning that our 14 month German Shepherd was found dead. Was informed by the manager of the kennel that called that they would be paying for a necropsy to determine cause of death. Receive a text message an hour later from the manager, that they could not pay for the necropsy, but would take us to whatever facility we'd like to dispose of the remains/perform necropsy if we choose to do so at our cost. The misinformation after relaying our healthy german shepherd had died while in their care was unfortunate at that point. The kennel not having anyone on duty through the night to keep watch of the dogs is another issue of angst. The necropsy revealed a mesentric torsion was the cause of death. This can be treated if recognized and caught. Due to the time to death from beginning of this issue, and the time of the phone call you can easily assume the dog was already in stress and need of help whenever they had initially noticed something wrong with him. No follow up was done though, and again not having staff there overnight led to our pup dying in extreme, recognizable pain and alone. I have zero doubt in my mind whatsoever that our dog would still be alive if he had been at a different kennel and that's my fault. I will live with that choice for a long time.

please don't place your pet here! My pet almost died. Staff was more concerned about collecting my payment than the safety of my pet.

THE BEST KEPT SECRET DAYCARE AND BOARDING FOR SMALL DOGS!!!…read more I have to admit, I've been selfishly gatekeeping this place because it is hands down, THE BEST daycare and boarding on the island and I didn't want my baby's spot to be taken up...sorry Aunty Carly! I know a lot of my fellow VIPaws pet parents are also keeping this place on the hush for the same reason. However, since I'm moving soon, I had to do right by its wonderful owner, Carly, and give her the recognition she deserves. I've tried almost every daycare and boarding here, as my fur baby is our child and we want the very best for him. It was good to see what each place had to offer but let me tell you, you will not find another place that comes close to VIPaws. This is "the Punahou" of daycares. They specialize in only taking small dogs 25 lbs and under, which is perfect since our baby is fearful of larger dogs. The sign up process is organized and thorough, taking everything into account. We could tell she was on it and well prepared to care for him whenever we were away. This really put my mind at ease. All her policies/pricing are laid out and upfront so there's no surprises. If you don't read, that's on you. Their reservation based setup makes it easy to drop off/pick up. I've been to places without this and had to wait a while to pick up my dog since there was no reserved time. At VIPaws, I book a set time to drop off/pick up my pup so I can be on my way. I appreciate that! Carly does a tour of the setup on the first day and we were impressed by how clean and secure her home was. Multiple enclosures to ensure your dog's safety, lots of room to run and play, and comfy and clean with no smells at all. The energy there felt so calm and positive. All the pups looked so cute and happy! We love that they're very selective with the dogs they agree to take in, not letting any of the riff raff in. It's like an exclusive private school! She's strict but very loving and we appreciated that vs many other places where they let dogs run wild, pee everywhere, bark their heads off, etc. Not only can your dog pick up bad habits but it also really stressed my baby out. This was a welcomed change of environment. We could tell from the tour that this was going to be an amazing experience for our pup. VIPaws took excellent care of my baby every time he joined them for daycare/sleepovers. He can be a little nervous being away from us but it didn't take long for his nervous shakes to turn into tail wags. He would do excited tippy taps whenever we made the turn to her home, ecstatic about where he was about to go. He never did this for any of the other places we've tried! We ended up enrolling him in regular daycares because he would pout and get depressed when he didn't get to go. From a dog that had separation anxiety to this, there was no denying how much he loved it there. At VIPaws, we really felt that he was more than just a number. She took the time to really get to know him and knew things about his personality, likes/dislikes and quirks that even my own Mom didn't know about him. We could tell he truly felt comfortable, willing to show her his true self and thriving in the environment they create. The level of care and commitment they take for each dog is outstanding. In a short period of time, we could tell from his consistent daycare that he was not only loving his time there, but becoming a better behaved pup. Our baby learned manners and started coming home more balanced and well-behaved. Before VIPaws, he would get leash reactive on our neighborhood walks but since joining VIPaws, he got rid of that behavior right before our eyes...we were amazed! And she doesn't even charge for training, which in my opinion is a steal!! With everything you get, her prices are incredibly fair! We loved her insights shared via daily text message/pics. He always looked so happy! She is extremely knowledgeable and her advice helped us to be the best parents. I loved her honesty, letting us know the good with the bad. It was helpful to know areas we could improve on and got us excited when those improvements started coming to life. We would much rather have that than the generic "he did great" responses we got from several other places we've tried. With VIPaws, I could trust they'd tell me the truth on how my dog really was doing. VIPaws not only helped us care for our dog when we were away but also helped transform him into a confident, social, well balanced canine citizen. He has so many friends and we love seeing him live his best life! We've recommended them to our friends and they've raved about having the same experiences with their dogs. We are so grateful for all the time and attention she invested in him. This place is truly magical and such a gem. Trust me, VIPAWS IS THE BEST!!! Thank you Aunty Carly and Uncle Billy for all you did for us! We won't forget you!

Hi Carly & Billy, I…read morewanted to thank you both for what you provide for all our fur babies. Cherish & Sasha are much better at home. I've been out sick from work for the last 2 days but still able to take them on morning walks. They seem more calm and are not aggressive whenever we pass or are approaching other dogs. In fact they don't react at all when other dogs start barking or lunging towards our direction. When we are home there is no tension like we used to have. I have to remind myself to get up and correct them when they're overly barking at the mailman or people walking past the house. The entire household, humans and animals seem to be more at peace and relaxed , it's very nice. Thank you again.
