Our dog was boarded for a week and when we got back to see him covered with a rash and lost of fur due to them leaving his harness on 24/7. He was crying of pain because his eyes, face and nose were swollen and red. The lady and man who we left our dog in care with did not even bother to read our list of how our dog needed care. This was a last minute and God send service since the place I would bring my Malli to had closed down and I was getting ready to travel for a couple of weeks. This post is intended to inform pet parents about their decision to board their loved pet or pets: There are many different places to choose from...do your homework and book somewhere early. We chose this as a last resort due to many factors. Bottom line is a price discount isn't worth the health and welfare of your pet. We left our dog here for 7 days and upon pick up his eyes, nose, legs and near his groin area were all inflamed with rash and small red dots. I am assuming allergic to the cleanliness or lack there of. :( We we're not called or notified of there were any issues but we will not return, it is a NEVER AGAIN will we allow our dog to go hear. We also did not realize that where the dogs are kept it is a very small wooden shed, I do not believe there is any air conditioning or comfort level for your pets. If you had a good experience here then I truly am glad for you and if you're a repeat customer, I am glad you find this place acceptable, we however do not recommend it if you're dog is an inside dog, who is usually used to climate control and is treated like a part of the family that sleeps with you and usually has the run of your home, your pet will not feel comfortable here. It is very sad to say that I believe this is a last resort for most who are in a pinch and have to make last minute bookings. Please go to visit this location before you commit. I took a good minute to get to review this place to take my time to think deep as to what review i would give without being too negative or emotionally driven because I was a bit unsettled before leaving my dog and after picking her up. With that being said here is my honest and emotions free review: I left my lil mamas with Barb back in October for a trip my husband had on behalf of his service. I wasn't too comfortable with the looks of the place and looked pretty run down and not too decent, but I choose to not be so judgmental. I looked inside the boarding area where the cages are located and wasn't too bad. It did have AC as they mention, but it was a lil too cold. My dog likes to dig in her water and get herself pretty wet so I was a lil concerned as to her being wet and it being super cold in there. But I told myself that she would be ok, even if I felt unsettled. The toys were in pretty bad shape as well but that shouldn't determine service rendered right? Or I thought. I took our own food as she has her own diet and gave instructions as to feed her. I will repeat, I wasn't feeling too comfortable leaving her there, but I did. We left for our trip. After a day or two into our trip, I called Barb to check on my girl and called, and called!!!! For two days I called and left messages and emailed!!!!!!!!!! No answer! until a day before we were to come back. I was so upset and worried sick that I was in a panic mode, I literally cried to my husband and thinking the worst. She left a message giving excuses that there were no calls and no messages. Bullshit! I picked up my girl and vowed never to take her there and I apologized profusely, by the way she smelled horrible! About a week I noticed she had a cough, took her to the vet....No need to mention the amount, but I'm sure you guys know the expense of a vet bill. She had a kennel cough. Unfortunately I boarded two of my dogs here for two weeks. Pictures are very deceiving and I highly suggest you pay them a visit and ask to see the inside of the facility where they will be keeping your pet. Here's my take on this place..... The "play/poop/pee" area is a small area with turf that is falling apart and has large turf nails exposed and lying around. Lynn and her husband are nice people, but they made a lot of excuses for the awful condition of the turf and brushed it off when I picked up the nails and showed them. At no time did they offer to show me the inside of the facility where the dogs were being kept and honestly, I think they were hoping I didn't ask. I got as far as right inside the door when the awful smell hit me. Also, there are no windows inside and he had the lights turned off. So basically, they have AC in there, but your dogs will be in the dark for the duration of their stay. Terry never did show me the actual kennel/s that my dogs would be staying in. My gut instinct told me to RUN, but I was days from leaving and I had no other place for my dogs. I called Lynn several times to check the status of my dogs. She was short on the phone and just said everything was fine. Well, it wasn't fine. One of my dogs has to take Apoquel everyday. I wrote this in ALL of the paperwork you have to fill out. I had several conversations with Lynn about this. I asked her on the phone if my dog was getting her medication and she assured me she was. When I returned, the bag of medication was untouched. Not one pill was given to her. So she suffered in that dark, dirty kennel for two weeks because of their screw up. Lynn later told me, "Terry thought it was anxiety medication and because she didn't have anxiety, he didn't give it to her." Such a shame. I also paid 54.00 for the "administration of medication". (refunded later). My dogs, the bedding, bowls (that they didn't use), treats (that they didn't give them), toys (that were never used) all came back smelling like feces and urine. I cannot describe how awful they smelled and how much weight my dogs had lost. My dogs have been traumatized for weeks. Never have they acted so clingy and exhausted from a kennel stay. I do not recommend this place for your pets. I am sorry I had to write this because I don't think Lynn and Terry mean harm, but I think they are not well equipped to run this business. read more

I boarded two of my pets here. Very polite and friendly people. Lynn seems to genuinely care about the animals. Rates are competitive. I do recommend some minor adjustments to benefit the pet owners which is why my rating isn't as high. I've boarded my pets numerous times in different facilities over the past year. Every facility has always sent pictures and updates while I was traveling. The only update I received was an hour after I dropped them off. I wasn't shown the facilities which struck me as weird - everyone else always let me see the facilities (even when Covid restrictions were tighter too). One of the staff members met us at the front gate, loaded my pets into his car, and drove them to the back of the building sending me on my way. It is very uneasy for a pet owner to be ushered away and their pets taken away to some mysterious place with no pictures of their condition. Upon arriving, the same thing happened. I was met at the gate without seeing the facilities. When my pets were loaded into my car, the whole car smelled like feces. The personal items accompanying my pets were what smelled. It made me wonder how clean the facilities are when items retain that degree of odor. Every other time I have boarded my pets, they have gone back to their routine at home like usual. Upon arriving home this time, their behavior has been clingy to a degree to which I have never seen. My recommendations for a better experience for both the pets and their owners is more transparency with the facilities, more communication, possibly better odor control. Barb was supper I called several times to check in on Myboy and she was always upbeat gave me details on how he was doing, his eating, etc she even put the phone next to him so I could talk to him. If you want your pets to be in happy healthy hands while on vacation DO NOT board your pets here, the amount of money "saved" is far from worth it. We were recently going to be boarding our two dogs while on vacation for Christmas and New Years, upon arrival an elderly man/staff named Terry whom would be taking care of my two pups let us in and I was immediately taken aback when one of my dogs started barking in a very scared manner which was very unlike him..so immediately I was uneasy, the small shed like where they housed small dogs is were we were first taken and there were HUNDREDS of flies due to turf instead of grass where pups supposedly "play" but also potty. Immediately I wanted to see where my pups would be sleeping and when asked if that could be shown to us Terry quickly responded "NO!" No??? I have never not been able to see where my pets would be staying while boarding, his excuse was "They will be in the back near quarantine" I was puzzled by the term "quarantine" and when asked about it Terry stated, "That's where the dogs are with broken legs, blind etc." Why would you have dogs with broken limbs here???!! You are not a hospital or a clinic. What really got me was when Terry finally showed me the type of kennel they would be staying in located in the front facility in the small shed-like building. There were at least 15-20 dogs jam packed in there one of which I knew personally from a boarding facility I worked for on island..his demeanor was so off you could tell he was very stressed by the shaking and constant panting he was doing along with multiple other dogs looking and acting in the same manner. There was no space between the kennels and some of them didn't even have enclosed tops so you couldn't actually properly separate mediate any possible cage fighting, this was all truly made me feel like I was in a scary movie. We immediately ran for the hills. Luckily we had a back up plan because if not I'm not sure how my dogs would have been when we returned home from vacation. read more

Took our dogs here last minute to stay in town for Halloween night. Was not impressed. Barb seemed to be very nice, well-intentioned, and we could contact her easily. My issue was with the facility itself. I did not feel safe leaving my two dogs in a place littered with broken toys, cigarette butts, and the smell of the small shed where they kept the dogs literally made me nauseous. It was also very crowded with several barking dogs and they had cages covered with random odds & ends (broken fences, boxes). I felt so guilty leaving them there, but we had already booked a hotel so our hands were tied.. We picked our pups up the next day as soon as we could and immediately took them to the groomers. Sorry, but as nice the owners came across, the facilities were just not acceptable. read more

Lynn and her husband are so sweet and always take care of our dogs when we leave the island. It is a bit out of the way but they do offer a pick up and drop off service. The facility itself is a little run down but you can tell how well taken care of the dogs are. They really care and it shows and I wanted to come and give them a review because of what pleasant experiences we have had. Our dogs don't like being in a kennel but when they come home from this place they are so happy. Worth every penny. And they are so accommodating to military families. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would... don't leave your babies here!!!!! I made the mistake of leaving my babies here but my husband and I were put in such a terrible bind by Rover.com, another bad choice, that we had no choice.... they were the only place that had room (that should have been a clue) right before Christmas. The place is at the very end of Hakimo Rd and doesn't even look like a pet boarding facility..We almost drive right past. The area that the dogs are kept is small and the XL kennel was not as large add they said. I left them a huge container of food, toys, treats and my precious babies as they were scheduled to be there for 2.5 weeks. About a week before pickup Barbara calls, she's the owner, and days that my older dog has a sore on his leg. When I started questioning her she said it "started" as the size of a quarter but now was the size of the back of her hand...WTH!!! Why wasn't I called add soon as the sore was noticed.....we were not off island!!!! She then proceeds to tell me that she had been giving my dog meds....I NEVER AUTHORIZED THAT!!! HOW DARE SHE!!!! THESE DOGS ARE LIKE MY CHILDREN.. YOU DON'T JUST GIVE SOMEONE ELSE'S DOGS MEDS!!!!. I drove there immediately, got my babies (they smelled horrible) and took then to the vet. Over $300 dollars later with an infected wound!!!! Worse experience ever..... and to top it off.. my dogs lost weight... were they not feeding my dogs???. I would like to explain a previous post that was initiated by my daughter regarding our German Shepherd Duke. She posted her comments on Twitter immediately after learning of the death of our dog while we were on vacation. Understandably our family was devastated and my children wanted answers and were angry. I asked my children not to rush to any conclusions and not to post anything on social media because I know how the younger generation communicate their disappointments. I asked that they not jump to any conclusions regarding Duke's death until I had a necropsy done. Anger got the best of them and TODAY I learned about her Twitter posts that she informed me she took down right after initially posting it. What happened is that others took screen shots of her comments and reposted them on Yelp. I have no control over that and my daughter has since messaged those people and asked them to take down the screen shot of her original Twitter post. I understand that Yelp reviews can make or break a company and comments can be very damaging to a business, this is why I am explaining our story. Lyn and Tom of Affordable Pet Boarding were very apologetic and sympathetic when they called to inform us of Dukes passing. Tom was the main caretaker of Duke because of Duke's fear aggressive personality. Tom answered all of our questions we had regarding Duke's activity leading up to his passing and was clearly upset in finding Duke lifeless in his kennel. I could tell from Tom's voice, over the phone, that he too was just as shocked and upset over Duke's passing. We did have a necropsy done for our peace of mind. The Vet concluded that Duke passed of a condition called Bloat Gastric Torsion. This condition causes their stomach to turn and it occurs in large dogs. Once the symptoms are visible (stomach distended, vomiting) you need to take your dog to the vet ASAP because they need to have surgery immediately in order to treat. Tom explained that Duke was fine before he left in the morning and Tom went out to buy him a new leash because Duke chewed up the one he arrived with. When he returned later that day he found Duke lifeless so we assume that Duke was experiencing those symptoms during the time Tom was away. Duke was a dog with an anxious personality and maybe being away from his family caused him more anxiety that may have contributed to the torsion occurring. I should also mention that this was Duke's 3rd time boarding with Affordable Pet Boarding so were clearly comfortable with leaving him in the care of Tom. I apologize for the original post that my daughter made on Twitter, but you also have to understand that my daughter just learned that her dog had passed. Emotions were, and still are, high regarding the loss of Duke and I just wanted to set the record straight. Thank you, Babette read more

First and foremost Lyn and Barbara are really nice, sincere people. They put you at ease immediately. They literally call the animals babies and treat them as such. The set up is very nice. They have an enclosed area for the pets to go out and roam and play without any chance of them getting out. They also have an area where they could put a shy animals so they can get acclimated with the others. My dog is not very sociable because she was not exposed to others. She was my Mom's companion so she did not have many opportunities to be around other people and animals. Barbara was wonderful with her and found a way to handle her even though my dog is not used to strangers. They have a nice shed with AC and segregated pens for each animal. Don't make the huge mistake I did several years ago leaving my beloved dog here. I viewed the place prior but the day I drop my dog off they was putting her in another area which was more crowded and stressful for my dog. I didn't get any prior notice they were going to make the changes and it was too late for me to do anything as I was flying out that day. I informed them that my dog had pancreatitis and on a special low fat diet. I provided boiled chicken breast to supplement with her dog food so she would eat. I also provided a friends phone number in event she wasn't doing well so he could come pick her up. I called during my trip and was told she was doing fine. When we returned I was told she was vomiting and they had used all the chix breast I provided so they fed her canned tuna!!! I couldn't believe that Barb would FED HER HIGH FAT Canned Tuna WHICH MADE HER PANCREATITIS WORSEN. My dog suffered during her stay there and I believe that the progressed pancreatitis cause her to passed couple months after. I don't feel they care for the dogs as Barb had every opportunity to call my friend to pick up my dog. read more

So their billing process is the sketchiest process ever. They wrote down my credit card info on a post it note and now I have a mysterious charge from them for something I was never informed of and that was charged AFTER I picked up my cat. If anything I should have been refunded for a prorated week since I picked her up before the two week mark! Not to mention they are extremely hard to get a hold of seeing as they never answer and when I leave a message they "never received it" and I get no response. I had entrusted these people to watch my cat while I was away for business and found out that the owner of the company had lost my cat. I am very upset and would advise everyone who LOVES their animals to NOT trust this business. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant. It is certainly not a luxury pet facility, nor does it come with luxury boarding prices. but it offers the essentials, a caring staff, a room with air conditioned kennels, roaming/play time,pick up and delivery were handled in an efficient and timely manner. I would give this place a 0 out of 5. I adopted my dog when she was 2 months old. She came from an awful environment that left her malnourished and in poor health. My pup is afraid of everything and everyone unfortunately besides me and close friends and family. She is now 7 months old and unfortunately I was going off island amd needed to find a place for her. My mother actually found this place and everyone she talked to was very kind. Due to not living anywhere close to where they are I was unable to visit the location because I'm a full time student and work 2 jobs. My friend came with me to drop off my animal and as she has animals too,she was able to ask questions that I didn't even think if asking. The first thing we arrived to was a very rude woman who NEVER introduced herself so I still don't know her name. This was the first sign I knew something was wrong. Seriously, if this is your business be more professional. We asked to walk around the property so my dog can get a sense of her environment instead this women told us no, put her in the run because "there are more smells in there." Aka the smell of pure urine. My dog wouldnt even go into the run because she was so nervous so I physically had to pick her up. Another women came along... Don't even know her name again because they never introduced themselves. They kept asking me my dogs name,ANOTHER SIGN THIS WAS AN AWFUL PLACE IM THE ONLY PERSON CHECKING MY DOG IN AND THEY DIDNT EVEN KNOW MY DOGS NAME OR MINE. This other women showed me where my dog would be staying and immediately all of the dogs start barking once she got in. My friend sensed I was getting more nervous so she started to ask questions. Like how often do you takr the dogs out, how often do you change the water, feeding, etc. My pup was still acting very shy so I sat with her as my friend was asking these questions. The other lady was changing her answers constantly and when we asked for fresh water, the other water was old and had hair in it. The lady got defensive,another bad sign. My friend asked if they could give my dog a bigger bowl since she goes through water quickly. The other woman threw a temper at us, we clearly heard her talking bad about us saying why does a 30 pound dog need so much water. Another bad sign, QUESTIONING THE OWNER OF THE DOG ABOUT HER INTAKE OF WATER. My pup was still nervous and I was to the point of having a panic attack for leaving my dog in this honest shit hole. The entire area was decent but the toys that dogs had in the run were broken and the area wasn't cleaned. Another thing that upset me just the owners entire attitude. Instead of giving myself some time to adjust with my dog they were pushing us to leave. This was her first time around bigger dogs and for these women to not allow the time for my dog to adjust unsettled me even more. My friend told the owner the truth and said that these women were unprofessional, and that they needed to respect people more. We decided to leave with my dog and instead of saying oh I apologize it wasn't a good fit the manager or whoever the lady was decided to bark at us that its our fault because we didn't come and see the property first. Initially I was only goibg to get 90% of my deposit,back but once calling Lynn, the women whom both myself and my mother dealt with she gave me 100% back but what really upsets me was they don't care enough about there business to apologize for being unprofessional and rude. My dog is my child, its a family member and for some people who have adopted dogs you know how hard it is for that dog to trust people so for these woman to push myself and my friend to leave my clearly terrified dog without letting her adjust made me upset. I'm 24 years old and I have the respect to shake someone's hand and introduce myself because thats how I was raised but these woman never introduced themselves and didnt know my dogs name out of 7 dogs. I don't even want to give this facility one single star. My entire experience with them was absolutely awful. They don't care about there customers or the pups they are taking care of. read more

PLEASE FIND ANOTHER PLACE FOR YOUR PET!! I GIVE THIS PLACE 0 OUT OF 5 STARS. I made the mistake of failing to properly vet this place. I went strictly off the photos( which are outdated), and the conversation I had with the owner. I believe Barbara is a nice lady who has the best intentions of taking care of animals, but she is old and clearly not up to the task. When I arrived to drop my dogs off, the place looks old, but fairly clean. She had about 10 dogs total, and they were loudly barking and fussing. The only area where she Takes the dogs out is pretty small and it is a just a thin plastic co Bering that looks like grass. I was scheduled to get on a flight that next morning, so as much as I did not want to leave my dog, I was stuck. Upon return to get my dog, I received her bedding and blanket back that smelled like urine and feces. I asked had my dog had an accident on her bed, and she stated she did!!! My dog never goes on her bed unless she is not taken out in a timely manner. My dog was happy to see me, but she smelled horrible. fortunately she did not contract some disease in her care. We had heard about Affordable Pet Boarding through our friends who had their two amazing Pits stay with Barb and Lynn when they went to the mainland. We are so glad we called them and had them look after our Am Staff, Blue while we went on our vacation. There were no hassles, troubles, or inconvience, from setting up the boarding arrangements to checking up on him to see how he was doing while we were away. These ladies love animals and they understand how much we love our babies too. If I called and left a message, a return phone call was always made. Communication is so reassuring when it comes to our pets and this brought peace of mind knowing Blue was in their loving hands. Before our drop off day, as a family we were given the tour and breakdown of what his day would look like, incuding the play and boarding areas. They have a regimented daily schedule for the dogs and I love that they give them lots of time to play and stretch their legs. We have never boarded with any other serviceso I cant compare but this year when we go on vacation we know that we will not be looking anywhere else and will be reserving our spot there at APB.
