It's also walking distance to many bars, restaurants, the main cathedrals, the ferry peir, and the bus/train station. Staff: very friendly and always with a smile. Says a lot considering they probably have to answer the same exact types of questions to each traveler. They man the front desk 24/7 and will buzz you in whenever you choose to return home. They also clean the common areas daily and it shows. Interior: the hostel is all on the 3rd floor (no elevator) on both sides of a main staircase. There are a variety of rooms from doubles to dorms (6 beds). There are also shared bathrooms/showers on either end of the hall. A bit of a rush in the morning, but otherwise not so bad. Misc: a significant amount of hot water heaters (to bond over coffee or tea); a 'free food' section from travelers who couldn't take the food with them; a very large common area/kitchen; a large variety of maps/tips/schedules; and they will print for 1 euro. I went to bed around 4:00-5:00 AM and woke up around 10:30 AM. Around 11:30 AM, my body started itching and I noticed multiple bites across my upper body. At first, I assumed they were mosquito bites and continued with my day. That night, I went to bed around 1:00 AM. At approximately 4:00 AM on July 6, I suddenly woke up because the top of my right foot was extremely itchy. I lifted the sheets and carefully inspected the bed. That's when I found what appeared to be a bed bug. I immediately took photos and recorded a video. I also have photos documenting the bites on my body. I packed all of my belongings immediately, took a shower, and left the hostel because I had an excursion scheduled that morning. I had barely slept and was exhausted. Later that day, I booked and paid for another hotel because I no longer felt safe returning to The Yard Hostel. I contacted the hostel immediately and sent them the photos and video. They later informed me that they had inspected the room and hired a pest control company, but claimed they found no evidence of bed bugs. The hostel told me they would refund only the final night, since I did not return to sleep there. However, I also requested a refund for the previous night, because that was the night when I discovered the bed bug after my sleep had already been disrupted. That request was refused. To this day, I have received absolutely no refund. After my last messages, the communication stopped and I never received any further response. This incident resulted in: * Multiple itchy bites. * A completely disrupted night's sleep. * Having to pay for another hotel. * Stress about potentially bringing bed bugs home to Canada. * A vacation that was significantly affected. I have kept all of the evidence, including photos of my bites, a video of the bed bug I found, and my conversations with the hostel. Based on both the incident itself and the way it was handled afterward, I cannot recommend staying at The Yard Hostel. I sincerely hope no other traveler has to go through what I experienced.

Stay at the one around the corner - Lönnrotinkatu, where I stayed one night before moving to this one. First, when I arrived, my room was extremely hot. It turns out this building must be controlled building wide temperature wise. Unlike the Lönnrotinkatu location, where each room has it's own temperature control. It was also dirty, dust bunnies everywhere. I called using the phone in the entry way, which directly connects to customer service, and they moved me to the room above my original room. It was a bit cooler, but still warm. There is no artwork (unlike at Lönnrotinkatu) in the room, the tv is very small and in the "dining" area (unlike Lönnrotinkatu where it's large and you can watch TV in bed), and the bathroom had mold in it and left overs (aka hair) from the previous visitors. I really wasn't impressed. I understand that this hotel is for affordable travel and one step up from a hostel, but, this location was just unclean, disappointing and lacking in cleanliness and care.

The floors appeared dusty, the bathroom had mold or dust in the vent (right over your head) in the shower. There is no shampoo or soap, so bring your own. The windows can be opened - thank God - it was very warm in the room. I would only recommend this spot for those who can rough it - it is above a Hostel, but below ---- say Motel Six (if you can get my drift) and for my home boys - the Riviera on Atlantic Avenue (2969 Atlantic Avenue) East New York -Brooklyn, may have better rooms! LOL
