Nancy is the BEST barber ever. I had been coming to her on and off since 2021 after a recommendation from a friend who had been coming to her loyally for years. I've finally made the switch to see her for my twice monthly haircuts (I need to stay sharp for work) and she does a stellar job every time, and I'm glad I live closer now. My fades are consistently perfect and Nancy takes her time to be sure I always have the perfect haircut before l leave. It's Ok but there are a lot of cons: 1) you often have to wait. 2) if you want to cut the wait time, you get different ppl cutting your hair each time. 3) they forget who came in first and you end up having to have awkward exchanges. 4) they never remember what cut they did last so you have to explain it all over again each time. 5) the quality of the cut is not always great. 6) often a bit rushed. I love this place. Nancy is one of the best. She pays attention to every detail and is fun to talk to every time. She works around the facemask straps seamlessly as well. During normal times I would have to wait for several people in line before me, but she is with the wait. But just with any barber, communication is key. Just talk with either Nancy or Vivian about what you want and adjust along the way. Vivian has improved dramatically in the last couple of years. My previous cut was with her and she took good care of me. It was only my second time working with me so she was a little cautious which is a good thing. But I asked her to adjust a little to what I wanted and she gave me a great cut. My wife was very happy when I got home and that usually only happens with Nancy! It is usually easy to find parking. Just remember that the garage next to it has cheaper, long term parking starting on the second floor. After the second time I went in Nancy let me know. Much cheaper than the street parking too. This used to be my husbands and two boys place to get their haircut. We liked it a lot for years, until Nancy's attitude started to get worse and worse. She had always made odd comments and gave off attitude sometimes, like she told one of my kids (when he was 4) and was nervous about the haircut "you are acting like a cry-baby", she would also act impatient... etc. But we would let those go because we realize we all have bad days and moments, plus she gives a good haircut. Because of her attitude getting progressively worse, we stated to see Jessica and Bon for haircuts. Jessica was fantastic with our boys! And her and Bon alternated cutting my husbands hair. We were all content (even though Nancy clearly wasn't happy about it and wasn't friendly at all anymore when she would see our family). Then Jessica and Bon left Nancys shop and that was it. There are plenty of places nearby where you can get a good haircut, cheap and get some good customer service as well. Not sure what has gotten into Nancy, but she acts so bitter. Now we go just right across the street from Nancy's to a new barber shop and LOVE it. Jenny and Joliene are wonderful, great cuts, great smiles and the places looks brand new. Been going to this place for years since my friend first showed me it. My first cut with Bon was the best I ever had for a professional looking haircut! Then I tried Jessica and she did a fantastic job! I was sold to make this place my barbershop. One day when I was trying to get a haircut, Bon was out and Jessica had a client, so I asked Mrs. Nancy if she could cut my hair and she accepted (honestly which barber would refuse a customer?). However, after this one haircut, she did not want to deal with me anymore. I admit, I frustrated her due to me not explaining how I wanted my fade, so in her words I got 2 haircuts in one day or one sitting and that did not sit well with her. What really got me though were 2 incidents. A couple months later I came back and got a haircut from Bon, we were talking and I was talking about my travels. Mrs Nancy commented if Mexico was one of my stops. Innocent on paper, but the tone I felt was racist which I've never experienced before. I could tell she still was not happy with me at all. Not only that, the next time and last time I will come to this shop is when I found out Bon was no longer working there. I asked Mrs. Nancy where he might have gone, but she didn't know. I asked if she could cut my hair, because even though she didnt like it she still did a fantastic job. She refused me and I couldn't believe it. So I had a decision to make: allow a barber I dont trust to cut my hair or leave and try to find Bon somehow. So I asked the barber who would attend me how long she has been cutting hair and she responded that that was a rude question. Mrs. Nancy backed her up and I restated that I need to know because my hair isn't the easiest to cut. Professionals struggle with my hair and it hasn't been easy finding a barber I trust. They all but the lady in the middle refused to cut my hair and I couldn't risk it because of a wedding that same day. That was the end of My Experience with My Barbershop. THANKFULLY, I walked a block down to Trans Barber Shop and found Bon out of what else can i say but an act of God. So thankful. My Barbershop has been a great place to cut my hair and many people's hair. However, I will no longer be going there due to the animosity they have towards me. We have been loyal customers for 3 years, but we will never come back. Nancy (owner) is always curt and rude on the phone when you call to make an appointment. When you arrive, you are greeted rudely as well. I always chalked it up to language barriers, and we have continued to be customers because the cuts are usually quite good and Vivian is great. However, today was the last straw, while my 7 year old son was getting his haircut, another customer arrived. Nancy told me to go wait in my car since she couldn't have more than 6 people in the shop (COVID restriction). I informed her that he was 7 years old and that her demand was unreasonable. We got in a verbal argument over how she treats her customers and I told her we would not be returning. This was met with "I don't care, you can go to another barbershop!" If my son wasn't mid-cut, we would've left immediately. As it is, I'm standing outside in the cold watching through the window. We will never be back and you shouldn't come either. I have been a loyal customer for three years, even after moving from Bethesda to Kensington. I've never been unhappy with the service. My hair looks neat and trim, as do my eyebrows, which can get out of control easily. Nancy is lovely. After nearly 3 dozen visits to the place, and, trust me, she's always there, I have seen her only in top form as a professional. She always has a line waiting for her. She's only cut my hair once, as I always take the first available, and I thoroughly trust any barber there. I do not believe any of the derogatory remarks about Nancy. After ~ 36 visits, I would have noted unprofessionalism and bad behavior. It's never happened. I've also never seen her behave in a racist manner. I have seen her handle a difficult, unreasonable, and, frankly, crazy client (I told her myself she was crazy, it was that bad) with great grace and aplomb. My only conclusion about the negative reviews that I can come up with is that the reviewer is the problem. Some people go through lives with either a chip on their shoulder or with an air of self-entitlement. Maybe, just maybe, it's not Nancy, but you. Consider that before you bad-mouth a woman who works more hours than you ever will in a field rife with the possibility of interpersonal conflict. I highly recommend this barbershop. read more

TOP 4 REASONS TO GO TO MY BARBER SHOP Upon reading Michael L's review I felt I needed to give a review for my go-to barber. I am half wondering if his intention was to go there only to trash the place to begin with. Here is the short and honest review of my experience of close to two years of going to My Barber Shop. 1. Quality of cut is always great. This is not a high end salon and if you think you are going to get a $100 cut for $15 then move along. You are going to get a great cut for Men and kids for under $20. This is a barber shop not a Paul Mitchell Studio! That said if you tell them what you want, they have always delivered exactly that. 2. Service is solid. Nancy is wonderful and funny. Jack was great too, but grumpy a lot of the time. Lee is still working on her english, but couldn't be nicer. If you don't want to talk, then just watch CNN. Otherwise everyone there is super nice and great to talk with. 3. Wait time has never been a problem. At the most I would wait for 20 minutes. Yet, if you just ask how long it will be they will tell you. If its more than 20 minutes, come back later. Usually if there are more than three people waiting I will come back in an hour. 4. Great price for a shave, but don't get the straight razor shave unless your skin can handle it. Nancy only uses straight razors. This is a rule for any barber shop, but I learned it at Nancy's. Granted I didn't have to shave for 5 days, but my skin was very raw. You won't be disappointed. I not only go there myself once every 5 or 6 weeks, but have sent at least a half dozen of my employees to go there as well. read more

Great place to get a quality haircut in Bethesda. I didn't make an appointment, and walk-ins seem to be the norm. They take their time to do it right, so it may not be the right place to go on your lunch-hour. Place was very clean, quiet (except for classical music), and well-kept. I've been coming here on and off for several years. I stopped coming here after I moved to Baltimore. Then I started coming back after I started working in Rockville and couldn't find anyone in Baltimore near where I live to cut it the way I want it! I have very straight stiff-as-wire hair. I used to really like how Jack cut my hair but he's no longer there. Jessica is a really cute gal that cut my hair the last two times and she seems really concerned about getting it right. Kevin cut my hair once, and it came out really good. Its been a while since Nancy cut my hair, since most people wait for her, and I don't mind so I usually get cut by whoever is first available. They don't take appointments here but the wait is never very long. The price for the cut is $14...and thats in Bethesda...I think its a bargain. A very good local Barber shop that opened up in downtown Bethesda about two months ago. Two person place, Nancy and Jack (i thinkis his name). I went there without apt. (walk-ins OK) and was helped quite quickly. Nancy was very skilled and she took her time to understand what I wanted and she did a great job. I have Asian guy hair so its more difficult and I've been through barbers and even salons but no one has every given me a haircut that was satisfying until today. Ask for Nancy if you have Asian guy hair. I'm sure she's great for other race of guys too. just that being Asian it was always hard finding someone who did it well. Nancy is my go-to Barber. I have been going to her for about 5 years now and always come out looking and feeling my best. I sometimes have to wait about 30-60 mins for her, but I don't mind because I know my hair will look good afterwards. Her barbershop is cash only so make sure you bring some! Yes, the sign out front hawking $13 haircuts got me in the door, and yes it seems to be an effective marketing ploy as it is busier and busier in only a few months. I got 2 cuts with Jack that were great value so I decided to take the kids in today and save half off the mall price. The kids certainly put up more of a challenge for Nancy and Jack than I ever could because after the do-it-yourself butchering the 5 year old committed last holiday, it only now has mostly grown back enough to have something to work with. Have been going to Hair Cuttery in Wheaton Plaza/Westfield Wheaton for the last 3-4 years. My Lady was on Vacation and I was in need of a haircut. Not having a clue were to go I went on Yelp. I found My Barber. Saw that 29 of the 30 reviews were 5 stars. If there that many 5 star reviews I need to give it a try. This place is not a saloon that you would find in a mall. It is a Real Barber shop with a twist. Let me explain. When you think of a barber shop you think of old men with gray hair. This place is a old school Barber shop with 3 employees. 2 of witch are young and the older lady still has style for her age. I always ask for Bon. He does above a 5 star job with the neck line. He makes the hair line very straight and does a very close shave with the back neck line too. With the lady at hair Cuttery my neck hair grows back in a week. He does a average job with rest of the hair. Defiantly not a bad job. When he finishes he puts Warm shaving cream under your sideburns and neck line and shaves their with a old school straight razor. He first goes over the neck with a electric razor. At my barber they have plenty of seating for waiting since each hair cut takes 30-35 minutes because they put so much detail into their cuts. I have been 3 times and plan to keep going back The pricing in actually slightly lower then normal. $14 Only minor complaint would be that he takes to much off around the ears.
