One of the best Greek food I ever had. The owner and waitress/waiters are very interesting and friendly. The environment is home like but still elegant somehow.. Price is great for what you get. I ordered seafood platter and lamb & rice. Seafood was as fresh as you can get in Alberta. Calamaris are cooked to perfect crispness and the batter on them are not too thick, just enough to give that light and buttery feeling. The lamb dish was incredible...the meat was so tender, it break a part so easily just by a spoon or a fork lightly touch it. The seasoning on it are so on point, you feel you are setting in one of the bank house in Greek. Even the rice was flavoured and cooked impressively. The deserts were unbelievable. I am not a big sweet tooth, but I had to try everything they offered, because they looks just way too good. The owner actually gave us free desert since some of us from really far away and someone had a personal connection with Greek. This place set in a old house has typical menu items, it reads good but I think it's a little on the expensive side, fish options are most likely frozen being this far from the source so if that's so then not a justified price. I think a Greek restaurant should make a good hummus but the amount given was a shock, basically a big table spoon. Normally you would have to ask for more pita this was the opposite. I have been here three times - it is a nice small restaurant with authentic food. The last time we visited was for my birthday together with some friends. To make sure we get in, I personally made a reservation directly at the restaurant a couple of days ahead. To my surprise nobody could find the reservation and when we arrived we were told that the kitchen is about to be closed - it was NOT late yet but it looked to us like they wanted to close early as the restaurant was otherwise empty. It took us a while to convince everyone that this is not acceptable and to get the table we reserverd and food nevertheless. The evening was not pleasant at all as staff made us feel that they didn't like being there. Everyone makes mistakes but having a reservation for a birthday and being turned down when you arrive is not cool. Especially for a small local business this was a huge disappointment. This place was very good for the most part. The only complaint I have was that the Meat Platter was really dry. It was the most expensive thing on the menu and for 3 people so we were hoping it was going to blow us away based on the reviews here - but it was just pretty meh. The chicken and pork in particular. BUT Paul really saved the day here - he was our waiter and an absolute gem. The apps were so good I said multiple times that they were the best pita bread I've ever eaten. My wife and her friend got the stuffed chicken which looked and tasted amazing - much better than the meat plate. All in all a great choice. read more

A beautiful and quaint little restaurant in the heart of historical downtown Cochrane. The Greek Plate is a converted house with seating inside for about 30 people plus a patio in the summer. Our server was attentive and kind. There were lots of vegetarian appetizers and salads which we made a meal out of . My friend and I ordered a watermelon Greek salad (seasonal), stuffed portobello mushrooms (feature) and a sweet Macedonian feta wrapped in phyllo and smothered in honey and sesame seeds. We both adored all of our dishes and promised we would return to try many of the other options. The price point was fairly high but the quality of food was superb and the dishes were quite large. Three of us had an amazing meal at this place. We ordered hummus as an appetizer, which comes with fresh baked pita bread. The bread was one of the best I have had. For the main course, we ordered the Greek salad, which was fresh and bright; the moussaka (chicken), which was perfectly seasoned; and the filet of sole, which was also fresh and tasty. The ambiance is warm, and inviting (we sat inside, it was a very hot day). Service was excellent ... the two lovely ladies took very good care of all the guests. We were on a trip from Banff to Calgary and looking for a place to eat lunch. This has to be one of my favorite Yelp finds during a road trip and I will definitely stop here when I'm back in Alberta again. The moussaka was fantastic and I highly recommend this dish. I was impressed with how flavorful it was and how well the flavor combination came together. The Greek roasted potatoes had a citrus infused brightness to them that was also very good. I found that the portions and price were reasonable for lunch as we actually couldn't finish it all. The only sad thing about this visit was that I could not eat dessert due to eating too much moussaka! Kudos to the chef(s)! read more

We checked out Cochrane today as it had been a while and settled on this place for lunch. WOW. Every morsel was delicious. We both got the moussaka special which came with potatoes, a salad and rice. All were prepared PERFECTLY. The salad had a perfect complement of greens and tomato and cuke and was dressed beautifully. Potatoes were fantastic. Rice was fantastic. I took my mother to My Greek Plate for a birthday lunch. The restaurant was recently purchased by a new owner and the food was AMAZING. Everything was made with the freshest of ingredients with incredible flavours. I haven't tasted Greek food this fantastic since I was in Greece! Had lunch here with my brother today. Absolutely delicious! Best meal I've eaten in a long time. Friendly staff and a good selection of drinks. The menu isn't overwhelming and they also have a good selection of specials. I had one of the specials, the ribs. Probably the most flavorful ribs I've ever eaten. We had heard of this wee restaurant from a Cochrane 'foodie' couple we met at a another special restaurant in Calgary. When he told of us about 5-6 great eating spots in Cochrane, we spoke of the lousy Greek restaurants we were trying in Calgary, and he emphatically promoted 'My Greek Plate.' Weeks later we drove out after making a reservation with the owner who is so very forthcoming in his appraisal of what has happened to the reputation of formerly good Greek venues in the big city, and returned a couple months later to check out other meals. But the charm doesn't stop there: My Greek Plate is owned and operated by 3 Greek cousins - two men (Yanni, but not meet the chef) and one woman (Joanna) - who lived in Montreal for many years and know their Greek cuisine! Now to the food... The dry ribs so tasty and well-spiced, tender and broiled just right! The rub was right on and went so well with the Greek potatoes, salad and other savours. These ribs are so good that I can safely say they are the best I've ever enjoyed: my own many times, a rib 'specialist' or two using different techniques, and several good restos over the years, but these are simply wonderful! And then the lamb dinners... The lamb shoulder is tender in a smooth tomato-based sauce, but upon the chef's recommendation we found that the lamb shank brings even more antiquity of flavour and style together in one swooping 'wow.' A couple months later we returned and tried the evening lamb shank that to me is more 'Greek styled' and those delectable ribs again! Some time later I tried the lamb chops, and wel ... I could only close my eyes tight and savour the amazingly deep flavours. A rosemary branch added to the rich drippings so nicely! Their veggies are cooked just right, not too raw and not too cooked, just right, and the savour fits so well with the meat excellence. The rice is a good quality short-grain, and the Greek salad's vinagrette is right on, not too strong but flavourful. When I'm driving, I stay clear from wine, but I know that a rich red cab would go so so so well with their mains! In this small house, the atmosphere is small and cozy, but also offers outside eating under the sun or an umbrella, and the staff are just great. So good that they anticipate what guests might be needing before being called over. When passion is part of the overall ambiance, it can only be a winner. Really unpretentious fine dining, 'My Greek Plate' without words will likely move you to return and return. I now know what my foodie friend was saying. Give it a shot, okay? And enjoy the lovely drive out over the prairie foothills that are crowned by the Rockies and a great Greek meal whose flavours will stay with you all day! Don't bother with Calgary's pretend Greek restos. Drive out to Cochrane and be introduced to great Greek food. Efharisto! read more

Had dinner here last week with my family, was a little too cozy for 6 people. The one server was busy as the place was pretty full. She did a good job attending to us though. I ordered the Moussaka which was wonderful, however I hope you like your starches because I found it a bit much to serve the Moussaka with Greek potatoes and rice and vegetables. This is a very large helping of food, too much on the plate honestly. My husband had the pork souvlaki which was unfortunately dry. It had a great flavor but was not moist at all. The others had the special which was mussels over pasta which looked really good. And the salmon also look good. I did not taste either so cannot comment. Then came dessert...I ordered the baked cream filled phylo pastry which was bland in flavor. My husband had the baklava which I also found dry and not sweet enough. I've had much better baklava so needless to say we were disappointed. I'd say overall it's a nice spot but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back when I can have cheaper and much better closer to home. read more
