I am a working mom who relies on a nanny to bring my child for classes. No emails are sent on re-registration. This is unacceptable. I guess this establishment only caters to their own kind and refuses to move along with current methods of customer service and experience. Plenary of other options that don't have inefficient, rude staff. I will be taking my business elsewhere and encourage you to think twice before sending your child here!

I've been to other branches of YMCA and so far every branch has a different swimming pool. All the…read morepools are different in deepness and sizes. The swimming pool in Greenpoint has some strict staff that opens their doors at the time of the class otherwise the door is locked to the pool. The pool is very clean but very small. I did not expect the pool to be really deep when I got in. It seemed like it was 5 feet deep when the sign on the wall said 4 feet. Lockers are very clean. The only con I have is the entrance to this branch is it is not stroller and wheelchair accessible. Wish there was a ramp going up and down.

There are cubbies and a general area to place jackets and shoes (depending on where you're going in the building). Lines designate where you cannot walk with shoes on. During shows, popcorn is sold 2/$5 and they have cups of water. The staff are always friendly, professional, and kind, and my niece has learned a lot. Good for her! It's in an industrial lot that was previously easy to navigate to, but now one side is totally blocked and you have to walk all the way around to the other parking lot entrance to get in... a bit of an inconvenience, but resourceful if you know ahead of time! The vibe was weird from the moment I stepped onto the roof. There was man sitting on the edge of the front desk with my yoga instructor and it wasn't clear if he was an employee of Cosmic or the hostel; he was smoking a blunt and kept talking about how chill the vibe was but didn't make me feel chill. It wasn't a real conversation, he kept telling me to relax, to look at all the people and see how relaxed they were, and every time I tried to speak he would talk over me with more stoned nonsense. I just wanted to check in, so I put my phone onto the table and made extended eye contact with the woman instructor. She asked for my name and email, which I did NOT want to give with this weird rando hovering close enough to touch me. I smiled and held up my phone, and she asked again. Great looking out. I reluctantly gave my info, took a yoga mat as far from anyone as possible, and got myself set up. I got up to use the bathroom, and the same man asked, "Leaving already?! Where you goin?!" To the bathroom dude, I'm going to empty my bladder, please leave me alone. The yoga area is separated from the lounge area for hostel guests, and during the class it became clear he wasn't an employee of Cosmic, but just a random dude who decided to insert himself into the class and the instructor wasn't able to control him. He was dancing in the lounge section by himself, periodically yelling things like, "Release the dragon!" It was annoying and out of place. The instructor started the class with "Well now that summer is almost over" and the audible grown from the people there facing another COVID winter with new mask and vaccine mandates was enough to make her backtrack and say, "We're at the height summer". Don't start a class with negativity like that. As for the yoga itself, the sound system they used had some feedback and quality issues, the roof isn't flat but has lumps and curves that make lying flat or balancing on one foot extremely challenging. The instructor seemed like she was still getting her sea (roof?) legs with her routine, direction, and confidence, which I don't mind, everyone starts somewhere and she was making an effort, that's what counts to me. What was less comfortable was encouraging people to video and photograph and tag the gym on social media during the class. On the one hand, this is how businesses get promoted. On the other, I don't want dudes getting up to take "promotional videos" of my downward dog that I didn't consent to. Also, can we please put the phones away for a YOGA CLASS, if no where else, and unplug during this time? Maybe the biggest disappointment besides the creeper was the fact that they didn't schedule their class to coordinate with the sunset, the surrounding buildings block it. We had 15 minutes of sun before it set behind the buildings and a chilly shadow descended on the roof. So.....this wasn't a sunset yoga class, this was a post-sunset/twilight yoga class. Not what I would have signed up for. I'm giving three stars only because this is not a review for the venue itself, they had to work with the hostel who didn't build their roof for yoga and who don't have control over what their guests do (if the dude was even a guest, I really don't know). That teacher was a substitute and we really didn't hit it off with the regular teacher when she returned. I sort of wrote it off as a place in which I had no interest. Then they grew. They bought Bija, which is now Everyday Athlete Kids. They started a program for expectant parents, and have an amazing group of people on staff. Their facility is pristine, and they do an enormous amount of community building. Despite my first bad experience, they're my first recommendation when people ask about kids fitness classes. Another business I hope remains on my side of the BQE for a long time.

The owner, Tomas, is a genuine, humble, caring person. He employs mature, experienced professionals to work with the children. The staff is very helpful and flexible with requests of all kinds. Coach Mason has literally changed the trajectory of my son's life. He's found a way to engage and challenge him in a fun way (with a small dose of discipline). My son made more progress with Coach Mason in 3 months then he did over 5 years in PT (2x a week). He is a gift. Aside from the fact he is literally the the one of the top ninjas in his class ( and could not do a somersault when he started), this program has given him the confidence to "play" with boys his age (which he was afraid of doing before bc he said they were too "wild"). The other thing I should mention is the space is very clean and well maintained. I strongly doubt that you will find a comparable small business with a combination of outstanding owners, employees and standards anywhere in the 5 boroughs.

It's high time I wrote a review for the place that's been bringing me much unexpected joy the past…read more6-ish months. Last year, around Memorial Day, I was in DC with my family when we stumbled across one of those outdoor events with folks happily dancing Bachata and Salsa. My friend pushed me to join in and learn, but I froze, chickened out, and wistfully walked away. Two months later, I decided to go for Bachata lessons, and went with Nieves studio based on reviews, multiple locations and scheduling, and a ridiculously sweet Groupon deal that you'd be a fool not to take advantage of if you come here. It is difficult not to get hooked from the first class. The instructors are a major highlight here; they LOVE dance and they OOZE passion and expertise. And they are SO FUNNY. I find myself gleefully giggling at their quips throughout class; it makes for such a happy, upbeat learning environment. Perhaps this delightful contagion spreads throughout the room because it's largely good vibes in the crowd. Most are here to happily learn, and it's so refreshing to mess up and laugh together without judgment as we all aim for the common goal of nailing the routine of the day. I have met so many friendly and awesome people here. They also have a practice social every Wednesday, where I quickly learned that though I came here for Bachata, about 60% of the social is SALSA MUSIC. It didn't take long before I grew tired of having to sit out half the social and began taking Salsa classes as well, the one dance I thought I'd NEVER be able to learn. But the teachers do an awesome job of programming muscle memory and breaking down steps to drill them into your body. While I initially started out taking 1 class per week, I ramped that up real quick when I realized mad students come 4-5 times a week, and I see why! It does require investment and dedication if you want to progress at a satisfactory level, but it's fun and you look forward to it. I get the unlimited pass and frequent the Manhattan and Brooklyn locations. Also, be prepared to end classes with your heart pumping and face sweaty; I quickly expanded my "dance wardrobe" to have a multitude of athleisure fits, because I don't know HOW some folks do this in jeans, bless them. Dress for comfort. I now devote 3-4 nights a week to Nieves classes, and it's carved such a significant place in my life currently that I wonder what the hell I was doing with my time before this. But these classes give me life, and a feeling of euphoria after. Sharing a hobby with others who love dance as well, the physical, mental and social health benefits, good vibes, and the challenge of pushing yourself to learn new things slides perfectly into my lifestyle like a puzzle piece I never knew was missing. So if you're looking to get started on your Latin dance journey as a beginner, this studio is perfect. Oh yeah, and they got those GOOD mints too at the front desk; those melt-in-your-mouth dinner mints you were always snatching out of the glass bowl at old people's houses as a kid. ;) I hope Wil (the owner) doesn't switch the mints lol.

The rowers are literally directly behind the treadmill. They have you do some floor work in front of the rowers too, so while somebody is going "all out" and sprinting on the treds, your face is like 6" from their ass. If somebody trips (you OR them) somebody is going to be seriously injured. Another con is the music. Usually studios have a good cohesive playlist going, but this studio was terrible. They started with latin music, then switched to blink182? Then gaga and megan the stallion? then suddenly cut the music and switched to hardcore rap, then back to latin music. It sounded like they hit a random music generator button. it would be better if they just picked a general lane and stuck to that. Truly never knew what was gonna come next lol (in the worst way) If music and feeling safe isn't important to you, this studio is fine.
