I was devastated to have hated this studio :( I love OTF and was excited to try this studio since it's close by. Pros: staff is friendly and knowledgeable, facilities are clean Cons: Terrible studio set up !!! It's NYC and they can't control this, but i can't pay $30 / class to feel like im in danger. The rowers are literally directly behind the treadmill. They have you do some floor work in front of the rowers too, so while somebody is going "all out" and sprinting on the treds, your face is like 6" from their ass. If somebody trips (you OR them) somebody is going to be seriously injured. Another con is the music. Usually studios have a good cohesive playlist going, but this studio was terrible. They started with latin music, then switched to blink182? Then gaga and megan the stallion? then suddenly cut the music and switched to hardcore rap, then back to latin music. It sounded like they hit a random music generator button. it would be better if they just picked a general lane and stuck to that. Truly never knew what was gonna come next lol (in the worst way) If music and feeling safe isn't important to you, this studio is fine. read more

I dragged myself to an early morning class just so I could finally try the InBody scan, something I was actually pretty excited about. When I got there, though, I was told the scan had to be done before class and since there was no time before class it couldn't be done today (wish this information was given to me prior), when I asked nicely and said I'd be comfortable doing it post-workout - the person at the desk refused to budge and honestly came off a little combative. Then during class, my heart rate monitor didn't even work for half the time, so none of my effort got tracked -super frustrating. On top of that, they gave me the wrong monitor... which happened to belong to another Indian person. Coincidence? Hmm. Overall just a really disappointing experience. Love orange theory and the theoretic science behind pushing your heart rate to challenging levels. Although it gets harder as the armband technology recalibrates to every individual heart rate, I find myself striving to push past the optimal 12 splat point KPI. The first introductory class is free and no pressure to run fast on the treadmill. Power walking will suffice just fine, and you can bump up the speed gradually over classes. There's also always some kind of challenge or promotion going on that encourages enrollment, so don't be afraid to ask what the promotion of the month is! I've been going to Orange Theory 4-5 times a week and watching my diet in regard to having a higher protein intake and caloric deficit on a daily/weekly basis. It is considered higher intensity - but I love high intensity as I'm definitely not a yoga or Pilates gal.... My partner and I have both experiences a 10 pound weight loss since we started and we aim to keep going! Essentially, Orange Theory is mostly circuit training (at least the 2G and 3G classes are): you run/power walk on a treadmill, row, and do weight lifting/floor exercises - not necessarily in that order if you show up earlier and grab dibs on the station you want to start on. Worth the investment in my fitness for the unlimited membership as my gym in my building charges $100 for the gym in our building for 3 machines that are constantly broken! 20+ classes a month on the unlimited membership is well worth the money if you go very consistently and often. read more

It's good for the price. It's so rare to find a place that has good deals on monthly unlimited classes in the city. I just couldn't bite on the deal because the workout is underwhelming. It just feels that you're kind of doing your own workout based on a televised strength session or what the instructor tells you. Not much competition, or camaraderie to be had. It's a mix of running, rowing, and strength. Tip: bring gloves to protect your hands while rowing! read more

OTF Williamsburg is my favorite! It has completely transformed my perspective on working out. I genuinely look forward to my workouts, which really wasn't the case prior to becoming a member. It was an easy decision to go from a basic package upon signing up to an unlimited package where I now go as often as I can. The studio staff at OTF create such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and motivated. Whether it's answering questions, providing guidance, or simply making jokes with us before class starts, they've always been amazing at supporting members. The coaches here are truly exceptional. They are not only knowledgeable and experienced but also passionate about what they do. They push you to your limits while ensuring proper form and technique. I've learned so much from them, and their expertise has helped me achieve results I never thought possible. They've helped me build confidence in my fitness journey and I consider many of them friends now. Had a great first class at this OrangeTheory location (first class is free)! The class itself is very beginner-friendly, much less chaotic than Barry's Bootcamp. It is more of a budget option (no towels, not even for showers) but again, would make it a good option for those breaking into fitness. I appreciate the screens; the weights portion has animations on a screen so that you can always look up for reference if needed. There were only two showers available (the third was broken) so you will have to rush to get one after class. You do have to buy a heart rate monitor as well. The instructor was knowledgeable and able to keep tabs on everyone in the class, despite it being a full studio, and correct form as needed. read more

I love this gym so much and am so glad my friend from out of state told me about it. Location is great. Sometimes I take the subway, sometimes I walk. It's easy to get to and by the water. There are a million cute coffee shops on the way to and from. Every treadmill has personal-fans with different speeds on them, so I'm not sure what the one reviewer who complained of humidity was talking about. Additionally, I feel fans and/or a/c on from just about every spot in the weight training area. I actually love the cancelation policy because it truly holds me accountable to going to class which is absolutely what I need after not working out all pandemic. I definitely feel like this place is changing my life in a super positive way. I am 7 classes in and am so grateful for this new routine. I have an unlimited membership which means I can take unlimited classes and go to any Orange Theory studio in town, but honestly I only want to go here because the convenient location is why I signed up. All of my sign-up paperwork was digital and easy to sign up online from my iPhone. The classes are so great. I've gone to 3 different instructors and I'm impressed by how many variations there are to the Orange Theory workout. I went in to this gym for a free class assuming it would be too hard and that I would leave embarrassed and it was the exact opposite. I experienced actual joy on a treadmill for the first time in my life and realized the energy of the studio was absolutely worth the price and what I needed. The poor review is specially for Kalifa (maybe the manager?). I've been a member here since 2018 off and on. Always loved the facilities, the front desk people and the trainers. With COVID, I paused my account for over a year. When I finally reopened it, I tried to cancel and was informed I'd have to pay an additional month before canceling because of their policy. This is total BS considering it was on pause, but I figured I'd do one more month and then cancel it. I know this is the policy across all stores so I'm not signaling out this one for that. I confirmed with the girl on the phone that this spot is no longer a premium gym, so the price went down, which was great. Now, when I did finally cancel, I was helped by Kalifa who was hesitant to let me cancel and kept saying annoying stuff like "you know your health is the most important thing" or "you're your biggest investment." Girl, mind your business, you just want my money. It was irritating and pushy. When they went to charge my last month, my card didn't work so they called me. It was Kalifa again and when I confirmed the rate, she quoted me the pre-covid, premium price. I told her this was incorrect and I was promised the new, lower rate. She tried to say it's because that's the price I was already paying... How are you going to make me pay another month, and then pay the OUTDATED premium prices for a gym that's not even premium anymore? While everyone else is paying less? She got really flustered when I called this out and then finally decided to give me the new price. Sleezy. I think ya'll need new management there. read more

I love this location. It's not my home gym but I pay the surcharge because of the convenience/proximity to my shop, AND because of JON. His classes are amazing. First off his energy is infectious, his enthusiasm is genuine, his knowledge is immense and he cares about what everybody in class is doing (form, drive, enjoyment). He is super encouraging and gives 150% if not more. You can tell he knows his stuff and doesn't want you to hurt yourself and also wants you to push yourself. You guys got a gem of a trainer!! Also really enjoy Alexa's classes as well. This location seems to have top notch trainers and availability for taking classes. My home gym is Danbury and it's a nightmare trying to get a class I want. Also they don't have towels for the shower. Williamsburg has a clean facility and friendly staff. What are you waiting for??! OTF used to be my go-to gym but there have been significant negative changes since the pandemic, including instructors who no longer acknowledge you (and who have distracting conversations with others in class *during* the workout); completely packed 3-block classes; awful music; and poor customer service. I put a freeze on my account at the end of June, intending to hold my membership for the summer because of travel. I thought the freeze was for 60 days per the paperwork ("Unless medically necessary, or for active military service, all freezes are for a maximum of 60 days"), and was also taking that time to consider whether I wanted to continue with OTF because I haven't been happy with the quality of the workouts. Today, however, I noticed a $200 charge on my card from the beginning August, which made me decide that I should just pull the plug and cancel the entire account after all. However, when I emailed them to ask to cancel the charge and also to cancel my account permanently, OTF called to say that I can't retroactively cancel the charge, even though I haven't used the membership at all and don't intend to continue with them. They said they had tried to call me in July to tell me I'd be charged but I didn't answer my phone, so they just went ahead and charged me. How about sending an email, or trying to call more than once, or texting? I know that they do have the capability to send emails because they responded to me back in April when I asked about recycling their broken heart rate monitor. It seems like they didn't actually want to reach me and just wanted to recharge the account. When I pointed out that it would have been nice to receive an email warning, I was essentially told that this was my fault for not reading the freeze contract fully and for not answering my phone. So now I've wasted $200 dollars. I really miss the days when this gym was friendly and personalized; when the instructors (Kai, Alexa, Jonathan and others) knew me and everyone else by name, were always attentively helping us with our forms and pushing us to work harder, and played decent music; and when I could simply text or email the former manager, Courtney, to ask for a hold on my account and it was no big deal. read more

I joined OTF Williamsburg in October 2020. My first day, I paid for a body scan and talked to Coach Jesse about my goals and abilities. I can't believe I met my goals in only 2 months. Over the next year, Coach Jesse and the other coaches changed my life. Coach Jesse personally took the time each class to know people's names and encourage them to beat their PRs. He coached me to setting PRs I didn't know were possible for me. I was in the best shape of my life. Running the fastest mile of my life. My split was better than my boyfriend's split at his gym. Coach Jesse changed the inner dialogue in my head about what I can do. Flash forward, I got pregnant and moved out of Brooklyn. I joined another OTF but the coaches aren't the same. They don't know our names. They're just clock announcements: 3 minutes, 30 more seconds, 15 more seconds, 3, 2, 1, recover. OTF Williamsburg is a special place because of the coaches. Taking a class with Coach Jesse is like getting a free personal motivational TED talk 3x week. The only negative thing I have to say about OTF is the 30 day notice cancelation policy is annoying if you move away. read more

I decided to pop in July 2019 and because of the amazing energy and great workout that the system and coaches provide, I've been a premier member and 6 day a week OTFer since then!!! I bounce around a couple of different locations because of my work schedule but Williamsburg is my home location and my most favorite! Brian gives me life with each class! The front desk staff is also super helpful, friendly, and accommodating. Couldn't ask for a better fitness family than this crew! Though I rarely come to this OTF...This used to be one of my favorite OTF's to come to in the NYC area until I had the worst interaction of my life with a"HEAD TRAINER" today. It was strength day, and as I usually run at a 2% incline to challenge myself, I placed the incline on a higher level. I was in my zone, feeling good! Then an Alexa Javens, who is a "head trainer" rudely comes to my treadmill and forcefully tells me to lower my incline. Confused, at the angry and aggressive disposition on her face her body language, I told her I am adjusting the incline to my level and speed of comfort. She doesn't move until I changed the incline. Since there was 10 sec left I ignored her irate and erratic behavior, I was so shocked and taken aback... I didn't know respond! being that it was 20min into the class...and I got there on a day off and its a holiday! I chose to ignore it and stay and try to enjoy the rest of my work out...but to be honest I was so thrown off by the aggressive gestures it was hard to focus on the great work out OTF usually gives me...boy was it a mistake to stay. 30 minutes later as we are again on the treadmill doing inclines, already thrown off boy the last incident, I decided to walk on an incline, Alexa Javens decided to accost me AGAIN...again yelling about the incline, I was now offended. Im wondering why in a full class I was being targeted. I couldn't help notice I was the only minority in the class. She then states it was "disrespectful" not to follow her directions???. I told her she was being aggressive and inappropriate and she then states to me "I should go to LA fitness if I want to do my own workout" !!! I then left the class. When I left and approached Tina Beamon who is the manager about the incident she states that Alexa Javens, was "concerned", and stated some words on "liability". Mind you, she /the front desk staff and Javens didn't even now my name to have been "monitoring me" through class. Also after the class, ANOTHER class member comes out and also states he was accosted by Alexa when he tried to tell her something about her behavior...thats how bad it was! The manager then states "if it's two members with a comment we will definitely talk to her about it."??? Really? I fail to see how one complaint from anyones not enough. I also waited for an apology and explanation after the session where again Alexa Javens was very aggressive and irate and seemingly privileged that her approach was the "right" way. She also stated that she is a "part owner" and she was indeed "right", stating she felt as if I was telling how to do her job? she is so RUDE! I also asked her if that's why she thought she could behave this way. She even motioned for me to leave, as if me addressing this issue was wrong! And the manager just stood there and watched, her and other staff members appeared to be afraid of this behavior. I have been going to OTF for over 3 years! paying a premier membership and I don't come out of the comfort of my home to be accosted by a "head trainer" who clearly needs to rethink and be retrained in her approach to customers during and after the workout. The approach to me in this session by Javens was disgusting and her attitude was nasty, animalistic, aggressive and uncontrolled. Far from anything that OTF stands for. I am disappointed that she feels that her negative words/behavior/body language and tone were necessary when interacting with a member. Is this how OTF coaches at Williamsburg are are trained? Is this the culture? After a discussion that was going back and fourth and going no where I decided to leave. This is shameful behavior, I no longer feel comfortable going to this OTF as this seems to be the culture there... it's getting out of control. AVOID THIS OTF ESTABLISHMENT unless you want to be inappropriately yelled at and approached with an attitude when you address it. read more

I had heard really good things from my sister and a friend who had joined orange theory and so I was eager to try it out and see what the hype was. I'm glad orange theory offers the free one hour session because you get to experience it for yourself and see if you like it or not. I was hooked from that first day and decided to sign up regardless of the price. Orange theory helps you push yourself to your fullest potential and it's so nice to have someone constantly being there to motivate you and help you in your form. The people here are also really nice and friendly and most of all so welcoming ! It has also made me more confident at the gym because I feel like I know what I'm doing and how to do it. Yes, orange theory in general is an incredible and effective workout, but this studio in particular has made trying to keep up with regular workouts into an exciting challenge to push myself to new limits, and that's because of the people that make up this studio. From the incredibly helpful front desk staff, to the wonderfully talented coaches (I don't even bother to check who is teaching when anymore because every single coach is exceptional in their own way), to the management providing the best customer service. I'm giving this low rating because instructors were late for the early morning classes on more than one occasion and the canceling of the service required more than one follow up call after I signed the paperwork saying I wanted to end and continued to get charged. New owners came and replaced Kim and the whole staff. I am giving it two stars because of the cleanliness has dropped severely. I was working out Saturday 21st and the smell near the treadmills was unbearable. There was hardened sweat spots on the treadmill rails, crusted dirt on the foot pads on the rowers and visible layers of dust in areas on the floor near the weights and other areas of the floor. Completely unsanitary. I'm a bit disappointed as the previous staff was so friendly and I would see them personally help clean treadmills after each class. There is another location closer to our work, but my wife will continue to come here because of Corey. He's an amazing trainer that will truly push you and his classes are the most energetic. read more

I have been coming here since June (2016) when they opened, and I am still really happy with the workouts and the results. And trust me, I've tried all the others in the neighborhood -- Soul Cycle, Brooklyn Body Burn, Pure Barre, etc., and this -- to me -- is the best. The trainers are great (love Corey and Beth), the space/equipment are nice, and the staff are friendly. But mostly what keeps me going is that it's the perfect combination of intense cardio and weights/resistance, and even though the class is an hour...it goes by quickly because you're switching activities throughout, and each class is different. In addition, the trainers (and the workouts themselves) push you to work harder without having to be yelled at. I am generally sore in multiple muscle groups (legs/glutes, core, arms) in the days that follow class. :-) read more

Went for a trial class here and so glad I did....I recently started my workout regimen again and needed something to jolt me out of my routine....This class was engaging, motivational and challenging...it pushes you to your limits and makes you want to do more. I didn't feel stifled though I was the lowest score in the class...lol...the instructor works with your and pushes you in a positive way to take you to the next level. The facilities are immaculate...you get your own private bathroom's to shower and dress fully equipped with lotion, deodorant spray and hair dryer. Private lockers are also offered (no lock needed), along with clean workout and shower towels. I will definitely be back! read more

The trainers-great and help with form for the most part. The front desk-great even though ever changing. The workouts-although they may sometimes be painful and agonizing, they are the best combination of cardio, and toning. I am getting stronger, I have gotten SO MUCH better at running, even though I have been running for over a decade on and off, and I miss the workouts when I am unable to go for a little while. The cost is definitely steep, but you see results, and get an amazing workout, and to me, that makes it worth it. read more

Currently on my 12th class and I can safely say I'm hooked! I was a Class Pass user for a while seeing as though I have a tough time committing to a single type of work out. A friend had mentioned working out at the Orangetheory in Chelsea so I decided to look it up. Lucky for me, they were advertising the opening of Orangetheory in Williamsburg (~15 minutes by me) and signed up for their free trial. Given as though its free, I signed up for every class possible and ended up joining as a member. I am by no means a runner, but this class allows for everyone to work at their own pace, while allowing them to see their heart rate (making it motivating to work harder). The coaches are phenomenal! Corey is beyond amazing, as are Beth and Miriam! Highly, highly, highly recommend! read more

I just jointed this Orange Theory and I love it!!! The facilities are amazing and the classes are both engaging and challenging. Also the people that work there are great! Megan and the ladies at the desk are always super sweet and helpful. I've had 2 trainers so far and both were outstanding! Corey and Miriam both really know their stuff in terms of fitness and are incredibly motivating. They really took the time to make sure I had proper form (something I really appreciate because I have a past sports injury). You guys rock!!! read more

Okay I have completed more than 15 classes and can vouch (now) for ALL the trainers. They encourage you to push just a little more... the 60 minutes goes by very fast and you leave the studio so happy you went. I'll continue to incorporate OT workouts in my weekly routine. Of note if you cannot do something there are modifications to help you work up to the actual version (like - say plank jacks... and... um.... burpees). read more

I went to this location on New Year's Eve and had a fantastic workout. I usually go to another location, but this location is closer to home. This is a premium location, so if you have a membership at a cheaper location, there will be a surcharge to use one of your classes here. However, it's definitely worth the extra money. The amenities are great - awesome shower facilities and products, good hairdryers, towels, etc. The staff and instructors were all great and very friendly/helpful. I'll definitely go back over weekends. read more

I was intrigued about the 'theory' after seeing postings on my fb timeline. I even had staffers reach out to me about trying it. I think we all recognize that you aren't ready to make that necessary change until you're absolutely ready. I waited nearly a year and finally motivated, decided to take the free class. I hadn't worked out in at least 2 to 3 years. When I did work out it was at one of those cookie cutter inexpensive gyms. Sure I could be on the treadmill for an hour, but what was I really accomplishing? Coach led classes have turned out to be the thing for me. The theory turns out to be while doing HIIT and reaching your target HR and cycling between a base rate, push rate, and all out rate helps to create that after burn that keeps you burning a percentage of calories even 24 hours after you've worked out. This works out great for me because I am a numbers fanatic and all participants wear a a wrist band that monitors our HR which is then projected onto a TV screen so that we will know what zone we're in. We use treadmills, floor exercises, weights, and custom rowers all the while monitoring our HR. It's easy for anyone to participate regardless of their fitness level. There are modifications to floor exercises, and for those who do not run on treadmills they have instructions for power walkers. No need to feel out of place, all can participate. Many have said how membership is expensive but think of it this way, if you had to pay a personal trainer 3-6 times a week how much would that cost. For me going to an OT class gives me a personal trainer experience. I'm loving it sore, aching muscles and all. read more

Like others said, they're very unethical. They tell you that you can change your membership at any time yet when you request to cancel, they say you need 30 days cancellation notice, which was never verbalized and ridiculous to begin with. I'm left paying hundreds of dollars for a membership I'm not able to use due to legitimate health reasons because they put things in small font on a contract no one is going to read. They also bother you every other day with phone calls for no reason. It's a good workout but not worth the insane headache. This "select" studio costs 100x more than a regular gym membership, which can be just as effective. Don't bother. read more

This could be a great workout, but they sales staff stalks you after your free trial and makes you not want to return. They daily emails and texts is a horrible business model. I dont need that kind of "motivation". I will workout when I chose and dont need to be approached via text on a daily basis. There's other classes I like much better but this is ok once in a while. Officially my favorite gym and workout regime. Challenging workouts where I see results. Completely changed my body in only a few months. Every day is a different mix of cardio and circuit training. Great coaches who explain every exercise, track my progress, and keep me motivated to improve my workout, which makes me want to come back the next day. I walk in each time to managers, coaches, and front staff greeting me by name. Bonus, when I travel, there are Orangetheory gyms in almost every city I go. I've been a gym nut for a couple of years now and was getting bored with doing the same stuff, so I decided to give Orangetheory a shot since it was opening up in the area. I am so happy I did! I was looking for a challenge, and I got it- times a million! I've been going a 2-3 times a week now since they first opened and its still challenging months later. I'm definitely seeing and feeling results in both my cardio and strength outputs. I've been to classes with pretty much every trainer and they have surprisingly different styles of teaching and classes, which keeps the workout from getting boring. It's not a workout for the faint of heart, but if you're looking for a challenge and results, I'd highly recommend trying an Orangetheory class.
