We hired Ron to do the architectural plans for the remodel of a fourplex. He came in with a fancy camera scanner to measure everything, a very efficient process. He was very much on time with the delivery of the initial draft. We discussed minor changes and submitted to the city, and they had just had a few minor corrections before approval, which is better than other architectural teams I have worked with. After we began work on the project, we discovered a beam in the ceiling was not pointing in the right direction, leading to the need for a revision to the plans. The engineer Margarito went on site and approved changes, which allowed us to quickly adapt. Overall this was a very streamlined process, I would be happy to use his services in the future and can very much recommend him.

Because of the structural and electrical scope, I decided to build fully permitted and up to code. I hired Artoo twice. About 18 months ago I bought a one-time consultation. The consult fee is not cheap, but it's totally worth it. I got a full preview of everything that would be required for my project - sizing of structural members, ratings for materials, and what would (and wouldn't) fly with city inspectors. I also got a handful of solutions for things I didn't know how to handle. The meeting really streamlined my planning and thinking about design tradeoffs. The second time I hired Artoo (December) was to do the full construction plans. I met with Ramy to do an updated plan review and for him to take some measurements. I really felt like he was taking my input and we were working together on the final details. Then the quality of the drawings themselves are impeccable. In a previous life I did heavy AutoCAD drafting, so I'm very picky about drawings being accurate and complete. They were also turned around really fast. Much faster than I could have drawn in my prime. Next was probably the best part - Ramy said he would help with any notes from the city plan review process. I was worried how that would go. We had to do some revisions, but it was totally painless thanks to hiring the right company. I felt unstoppable with Ramy as a partner, and I got everything I wanted approved by the city. I'm writing this review today (August) because I had another small question about the plans, and Ramy basically answered my email immediately. Super tight customer service. I don't always have the budget or time to build things right. Artoo Design is one of those companies you should hire when quality and time is important. Before choosing Unique Architecture, I contacted no less than 10 architectural firms seeking quotes for our home renovation project. We are doing an extensive interior remodeling of our home. Of the 10 or so companies contacted, only 3 returned our calls. One was way too busy and could not work within our time frame, another gave us a quote that was really overpriced which included a premium charge on a standard government fee. Unique was the first one who answered my call with one call. I actually had a nice chat with Sean Wang, the chief architect the first time I called. He promptly provided us with a quote and was willing to work on our project within a reasonable time frame. Sean took what I had in mind and my elementary school level drawing and turned it into a couple of professional plans we could choose from. From there he followed up with the city promptly and kept us in touch along the way. Her prices are reasonable, but her knowledge and experience made her our overall choice. Crystal was always available and patient with us throughout the process. Sometimes we would email her late on an evening or Friday, expecting her to respond the following week. Instead, she would respond that same night or during the weekend and offered to jump on a call if we still needed clarification on something. Also, she explained that with the set price for the landscape design and drawings, it would include any revisions that our city deemed did not meet their requirements. However, our city chose to reject the plans a couple of times because the city did not follow their own requirements. Crystal made the revisions to our plans at no additional cost, and we were extremely grateful for her generosity. We hope that when the city finally approves our plans, that we can work with Crystal to complete the project as well. My wife and I had a great experience working with Crystal and can trust that she does what she says and will go above and beyond your expectations like she did for us. Then we tried to find contracts and they either stuck up their noses at us or didn't even bother showing up at the appointment. Finding a trustworthy contractor is hard. So I looked up Yelp and found Mr. Parrague and initially contacted one of the reviewer, Henry, because he offered to shed more light on his experience. He was so kind and highly recommened Parrague Construction. And I'm living in another country and my Mom's English isn't fluent enough to handle this kind of matter. So I called Mr. Parrague and he made me feel safe. He is a one stop shop because I wasn't sure if the city was going to ask to redo the blueprints or not. He was very professional, on-time, and does not push for extra things just to make more money, in fact it's the opposite. He is tough, which you need to be when dealing with the city, and very experienced. He will go out of his way to help you. His crew is clean and his assistant is also kind and very communicative, but Mr. Parrague usually is your main point of contact. He likes to handle the calls himself. Once my mom called around 5pm saying they installed the garage door wrong (they did not) and I thought she got locked out of the house. I had to call Mr. Parrague from outside the country (Skype) and he said he will go straight to my house after his meeting which was an hour away from my house bc they had my spare key. I told my mom and realized she wasn't locked out. So whether it was installed correctly or not, it was NOT an emergency. I quickly messaged Mr. Parrague because it can be dealt the next day. I didn't want him to get in an accident trekking across LA. He understood and STILL showed up! This is now probably 7pm. They figured out that it was my Mom who didn't understand how the new garage door worked....So I am so thankful for them for their work and for dealing with the City and get me approved and case closed.
