I am so thankful for Mr. Parrague. We had to tear down an old unit in the backyard, and update a few things in the main house with the city breathing down our throats. At first we tried to do it ourselves by finding family recommended architect to draw prints for us for submission and whatever else the city wants. Then we tried to find contracts and they either stuck up their noses at us or didn't even bother showing up at the appointment. Finding a trustworthy contractor is hard. So I looked up Yelp and found Mr. Parrague and initially contacted one of the reviewer, Henry, because he offered to shed more light on his experience. He was so kind and highly recommened Parrague Construction. And I'm living in another country and my Mom's English isn't fluent enough to handle this kind of matter. So I called Mr. Parrague and he made me feel safe. He is a one stop shop because I wasn't sure if the city was going to ask to redo the blueprints or not. He was very professional, on-time, and does not push for extra things just to make more money, in fact it's the opposite. He is tough, which you need to be when dealing with the city, and very experienced. He will go out of his way to help you. His crew is clean and his assistant is also kind and very communicative, but Mr. Parrague usually is your main point of contact. He likes to handle the calls himself. Once my mom called around 5pm saying they installed the garage door wrong (they did not) and I thought she got locked out of the house. I had to call Mr. Parrague from outside the country (Skype) and he said he will go straight to my house after his meeting which was an hour away from my house bc they had my spare key. I told my mom and realized she wasn't locked out. So whether it was installed correctly or not, it was NOT an emergency. I quickly messaged Mr. Parrague because it can be dealt the next day. I didn't want him to get in an accident trekking across LA. He understood and STILL showed up! This is now probably 7pm. They figured out that it was my Mom who didn't understand how the new garage door worked....So I am so thankful for them for their work and for dealing with the City and get me approved and case closed. It's been 8 months since my renovation is completed. My family, friends and myself truly enjoy my new house. The remodeled kitchen has plenty of counter space, making cooking and dining a true joy of life. My son and I love to cook together, and there is enough space for us to work side by side without bumping into each other. The new room addition is well insulated to block out noise from outside. My wife and I contracted Carlos to remodel a home we purchased in Sierra Madre. The project was conducted over two phases. First, his team remodeled the interior before our family moved in. In the second phase, he expanded the dining room area and built a front entry, foyer, mud room, and laundry room to connect the house to the detached garage while our family was residing in the house. From the initial planning and throughout the entire remodeling and construction, Carlos was in constant communication with us, via email, text, and phone. He ensured that everything is running according to schedule and handled the entire permit process with the city of Sierra Madre with very little delay, which is no easy task for a notoriously stringent city for home remodeling. My wife and I were initially very concerned about the prospect of adding a new area while we are living there with two very young children. But in the end, our fear was unfounded as Carlos did a wonderful job to minimize any interruption to our lives even as we had to go through breaking down couple walls while living in the house. As seen in the before and after pictures I posted, Carlos' team did a fantastic job modernizing our home and making it a very open and comfortable space. When we first purchased our home, the layout was very odd with the front door entrance at the middle side of the house along with many other strange idiosyncrasies. Carlos and his team worked meticulously with what was previously existing and did his magic to seamlessly blend in the newly built area. Our family, along with any visitor who has seen the before and after, marveled at how naturally the new layout flows and yet how hard it is to now distinguish the new addition from the preexisting portion. All in all, Carlos was a superb project manager due to his communication skill and willingness to follow up at any time. The highest compliment I can pay him is that for a long and complex project like ours, we were relatively stress-free and we were very satisfied at how everything turned out so smoothly and nicely. We hired Parrague construction to do our 2nd story additions and 1st level remodel. We are very pleased with the result. Carlos, the owner of the company, has become a family friend of ours! He is an outstanding project manager with excellent communication skills! The project ran into some hurtles at the beginning due to the city permit and how straight the city's requirement. Carlos was always patiently and professionally fulfilled what the city needed, he even went to the city planning office to meet with the city planner with us. We finally got a building permit and started our project. The construction process had been great. Carlos understood our needs and every steps of the way had been quick to respond. We wanted our house to look modern, Carlos suggested the smooth stucco, and horizontal fence would look nice with the modern look. He even brought us to his home and showed us his beautiful house! When we decided to do an addition for my mother in law to move in, I drafted some sketches of the addition I wanted. Carlos came up with a layout that met our needs but made more efficient use of the space, which gave us a 675 sf addition. Carlos gave us an estimate which did not change much when the final plans were approved. Carlos and his team completed a brand new garage and driveway for us earlier this year. He was able to work off our architect's plans and modify them to fit our needs better. The end result is nothing short of stunning, as the new garage fits in perfectly with the architecture of our Craftsman bungalow, but has the benefits of modern insulation and electrical wiring, making it actually more comfortable to hang out in than our own living room sometimes! The whole job was finished ahead of schedule, which is pretty much unheard of in my experience. Carlos also navigated a couple of snags quickly to keep us on track. Carlos and his crew are very professional. Their work comes in on budget and without hidden fees. Parrague construction provided us with a kitchen/ pantry/ bathroom remodel that I personally thought no one could do. It required switching the kitchen with the pantry and moving a bathroom to the other end of the space. Think about the gas, sewer and water pipes that had to be re done from scratch not to mentioned the electrical. They did a great job and we are complemented on our kitchen every time someone see it. Every week he said next week or by end of week would give me an estimate, but after 2 months never followed thru or got back to me, or had the decency to say he wasn't interested. Ended up spending our 16K somewhere else with 2 other companies. Very rude to treat people this way! I have the texts to prove what I am saying where he kept saying "next week" or "sorry... next few days" he would give me estimate with all kinds of excuses/just giving me the run around -- maybe I will post them, but In the meantime I am happy to send them to anybody who wants to see how "direct" he is. Almost two years in the making amidst many challenges faced along and the breakout of pandemic; I couldnt imagine doing this huge project with any other contractor but Carlos. From planning , costing,conceptual work put together , permits to the actual implemetation of this project to post construction, Carlos was in attendance and kept me updated with every single detail . The teams of people working for Parrague Construction are truly dedicated & commited individuals , who take pride of the work they do; most importantly they are trustworthy. The project consist of rebuilding of my primary residence , where i lived for many decades, in the quaint city of Sierra Madre, including transforming the garage and a portion of it into another living space that really came out beautiful, with well utilized space and patio space for an outdoor feel. This took 5 months itself and finally, the main house remodel ....took few months to empty before actual work started due to the Holidays and emptying the house of stuffs accumulated over decades... this itself was the most painful part! When the actual work started, Covid 19 hits and many materials, including appliances took forever to get delivered. Carlos and his team were very helpful; really worked with me all throughout this journey . The details of their work are remarkable more so being within the building code and regulation are utmost important that Carlos assures well. Working with Parrague Construction was fantastic. We had some unfortunate hurdles to jump over starting out which blew our budget out of the water, but they were great in helping us get our remodel done. The solutions they came up with to our unique set of challenges has led to a beautiful 2 bdrm, 1 bath with a new garage addition with another bath being remodeled. While there were times when we didn't understand why something was being done a certain way and other times when we asked for a change because we didn't like something, Carlos always explained what the thought process was and always figured out a solution to deliver what we were looking for. We have some thoughts on other things we'd like to remodel in the future and we will be reaching out to Parrague Construction to get them done - when we are ready to do it! read more

While enjoying a ride on a vintage motorcycle around our community, my wife and I saw a house that Carlos Parrague had just added a major addition to. My wife took down the information and we called Carlos. Carlos and the owner of the home gave us a tour of the project and it was absolutely beautiful. Everything from the paint to the stucco was seamless. You would never know that the addition was not originally part of the home. So we commissioned Carlos to build us a motorcycle garage that required moving a large retaining wall. By doing this we also decided to add an extended additional patio with all the room that was created. From that request we added more and more items like decorative landscaping walls, enlarging a sidewalk, concreting the other side of our property, and rebuilding the other existing patio. We also had him replace the garden window and replace our kitchen countertops with quartz including the backsplash. Everything we asked Carlos to do was done to perfection and his advice and willingness to communicate was always professional and detailed. His knowledge base seems to have no bounds. We also chose to add many additional things to our project because we knew that we would never find better people who would do as good a job in the future. I also had him build my wife a garden shed which was a work of art. It came out so amazing that I was actually somewhat embarrassed to show it to my neighbors because I didn't want them to feel bad that they didn't have one as nice. And I assure you nobody in our neighborhood has one as nice! I miss them now that our job is finished. The results are breathtaking. Things are seamless and every day when we walk in the backyard it is like a mini vacation. Every few days someone walks by and comments how beautiful our house looks. There was nothing that Carlos was not willing to do to make sure everything looked wonderful. His prices were reasonable as well. They were not the most expensive bid, nor were they the cheapest. But I can say that the quality of work we received was the best. In fact they used the best quality building materials like really good quality paint, so the outcome would last many many years. I would highly recommend Carlos Parrague and his team because he is honest and true to his word. His concerns are for the best outcome and he never tried to upsell us on anything. I found that the owner had a aggressive personality, and almost seemed defensive when I asked him when he could start the work if I accepted his bit. After hearing prices, I thought we had decided not to meet as it over my budget, and I had already found contractors that fit within my budget. Unfortunately, he still showed up at my home without confirming, and once again seemed angry. I called parrague for a simple installation of new hardware throughout my kitchen cabinets and I got a gentlemen the very next day to show up at 7 am sharp. Carlos and his team did a top notch job on a project to demo and rebuild a 15 foot bridge on our property. We had gotten 3 quotes and gave the job to Carlos because of his professionalism and understanding of what we wanted the bridge to look like. The demo, carpentry, and electrical work was performed at a level beyond our expectations.
