Our son went to MPJFK from age 17mo- 4.5years and he LOVED it! We went to TK after that and he was overqualified--hitting all of the benchmarks there with ease! I have no doubt it is due to the time he's spent with Lisa, Lori, and all of the incredible staff they've had throughout the years there (have to give a shout out to Genna, Jessica, and Teresa :) ) The things that stood out to us as parents that were absolutely invaluable were: -Communication!!! We've used other childcare for our kids and Lisa and Lori have set the bar. They are simply unmatched. They have made it a priority to keep us updated with the day's activities, food and snacks eaten, naps, diaper changes/potty habits, good behaviors and any issues that may have arisen. We looked forward to the pictures and videos we would see throughout the day and we never had to wonder what was going on. As working parents, I can't tell you how much this helped us feel comfortable with our choice to send our son here. -Education: They really value education: reading, number and letter recognition, colors, shapes, puzzles and educational games, educational songs. It's huge. Our son was counting to 10 by the time he turned 2. They had science and language (Spanish and ASL) focused lessons each week. He would constantly come home with new knowledge that blew us away. Their Teddy Bear Express curriculum is fantastic with wonderful themes. As a teacher myself, I cannot be more grateful for all that he learned and that they helped nurture a love of learning. -Organization & Cleanliness: For a home daycare, Lisa has created a perfect separate space for school vs her home. It's organized and clean. The staff checks the play equipment daily to ensure that it is clean, safe, free of bugs/spiderwebs, and sanitized. At meal times and during crafts, they had shirts that the kids would wear to protect their clothing from home from food and craft stains. This is extra but they have turf in the yard so we were grateful that our son wasn't coming home covered in grass, sand and dirt stains as well as no food or craft stains. Lisa is STRUCTURED in the best way. Everyone knows the expectations and routines and it is helpful for the kids and parents know what is going on throughout the day and for the kids to rise to the occasion and get used to a school setting. -Holidays/Themes: Lisa does a wonderful job of decorating for the holidays and making her home and the school setting feel new and fresh. They always had cute holiday crafts to bring home and would build it into their learning too. They have family gatherings for Halloween, Christmas (with Santa!), Easter (with the Easter bunny!), as well as a Mothers Day and Fathers Day party, a valentines exchange, St Patricks Day leprechaun traps. Having those opportunities to meet other families at the family parties was really nice and as a parent, having access to pictures with Santa and the Easter bunny were fantastic. Each week/month also had a different theme for their learning, share day, and Dress Up Friday. It was so fun for our son to dress up, and find items to share with his friends. He loved looking forward to the things he would get to learn about (space, volcanos, fire prevention--with a trip to the fire station!, dental hygiene, etc). They host an annual lemonade stand that the kids help market, organize, and run that we look forward to each summer! -Extras: They provide breakfast, lunch, and 2 snacks throughout the day so no stressing over slow eaters in the morning or packing a lunch. They have color coded water cups so no need to even bring a water bottle. All I had to do in the morning was get him dressed and drop him off and our mornings were so easy. They taught him so much before we even knew he was ready! One day he came home knowing how to get his shoes on independently and was proud to show us! They teach social etiquette like sharing, listening, taking turns, they give the kids daily jobs and responsibilities. They facilitated potty training. They use an app (Brightwheel) to track the day and communicate so it's nice when everything is in one spot. They have Parents Night Out a few times a year and it's wonderful to have affordable childcare where we know he'll have a blast and he's safe. Graduation/Awards ceremonies each year to celebrate the small victories and character awards--bonus, they learn songs to sing to the families which is not only adorable but great practice for all of the elementary school performances to come! When it was time to move on, our son was beyond ready, and was so confident as he started elementary school. It made our transition there so SO easy and I know it was in large part because of his time at My Place Just for Kids. We were so nervous about sending our first child to daycare but they provided such great care and were especially attentive to her allergies. Lisa, Lori and their team are absolutely amazing. We call this day care "school" in our family because it has a phenomenal curriculum that I absolutely attribute to my son's readiness to start kindergarten this fall. His academic and social skills are unlike I've seen with friends and family members children around the same age as my son. I have never had to remind my son to share, he just does it. The menus for breakfast, lunch and snack are fun AND extremely nutritional. During the summer months, the kiddos had field trips to the local parks. They worked hand and hand with my husband while I was deployed and were instrumental to our family during that time. Lisa and Lori are always communicative and open. My son started attending MPJFK in August and I can whole heartedly say I have zero complaints. My husband and I continue to be impressed with Lisa & Lori's ability to go above and beyond with daily art activities, Friday Fun Days, and themed months for the kids. Once he is older, a pre-school curriculum will be implemented and that is above and beyond my expectations of an in home daycare. My son has started talking more since attending and we believe this is from positive social interactions at "school". We also are impressed by their ability to discipline in a way that empowers but is affective. It's also very reassuring that pictures from the day are posted in a private group on Facebook, so we can feel connected and informed about what he does. Lisa is also very open to talk about any concerns outside of school hours and is flexible with reasonable accommodations. (My son is no longer offered milk because of stomach issues.) It really makes a difference when you know you staff respects your wishes. I attend SDSU full time, and my husband works full time and goes to school through the San Diego Electrical Union. We would never be able to pull this off without the support and reassurance we have with Ollie being enrolled in MPJFK, and for that we are extremely grateful. read more

My son has been attending MPJFK for a couple of years now and we have seen him grow and learn so much from the wonderful staff and teachers. From potty training, reading, writing, math, manners, they've encompassed and excelled their teaching skills to the T. Unfortunately, the the next few weeks will be the end of our chapter at MPJFK since our son just had an assessment for kindergarten. Our little guy was supposed to be starting TK in the fall, but because of the excellent work the MPJFK staff has dedicated to him, he'll be skipping a grade and going into kindergarten! His assessment results showed that he scored above average in all categories at a kindergarten level and he's only 4! I'm so grateful to have stumbled upon MPJFK as they've created such a beautiful foundation for my son's educational development. I will never be able to say enough great things about MPJFK; this daycare and preschool is just beyond amazing. My son started there when he was 1.5 years old and my daughter (still there) when she was just 15 months. My son has learned so much and is beyond ready for kindergarten. The curriculum is wonderful and fun and they get to learn so many new things. He loves his daily art and his weekly science experiments or cooking projects. The kids learn more than just academics, they work on zipping their jackets, putting on shoes, following rules, listening well, everything. But on top of that they have so much FUN. There are themed Fridays for dressing up and playing, lots of dance parties and they're outside a ton of the day which is so important for littles. And they play extra in the Summer along with weekly water play. They get celebrated on their birthdays and have great little parties for the whole in the late afternoons for Holidays; we have met great friends by getting to meet the other parents. I wanted a place where my kids would learn a lot but also get to be kids and that's definitely MPFJK. Plus they loooove the kids, they love their jobs. I couldn't be happier with the level of care provided at MPJFK. From my very first phone conversation with Lisa, I knew that we had hit the jackpot with a place to send our daughter. My son has been attending this SCHOOL for more than a year and before this, he was in an "institution" day-care. They have an incredible schedule of learning and activities for your little ones to grow. Because of the atmosphere that they have created in their program, my son is learning things that he would have to wait years to learn in a traditional institution. The staff is always warm and welcoming at pick-ups and drop offs. My Place, Just for Kids often has extra events for parents to get to meet the other parents as well as the staff. Every day when I pick up my son, he has some kind of special art-work that they created in class that day and he's always excited to talk about it or his new friends that he's made. MPJFK is seriously like an extension of our family. My almost 4 year old has been there since the summer of 2014. She started at 16 months old and has thrived at this daycare/preschool. Researching daycares is a very daunting task... and can be quite scary to be honest. I was open to both in home daycares and centers but didn't really know anyone that could refer me somewhere. And I knew what I wanted in a daycare: for my child to be happy, safe, and loved... and if she learned a few things while there, well that was a bonus. I found MPJFK on Yelp and scheduled a tour. I met Lisa and her staff and immediately felt welcomed by not only the adults, but the kids there as well. The following day I toured another facility and within 2 minutes I knew that MPJFK was "the one." One of the things I love about this in home daycare/preschool is that there is structure and it is truly a learning environment for children. There is a September through May curriculum and the summer is more laid back, sort of like a summer camp with fun activities for the kids. My child has learned so much in the time she has been here... from the basics like her alphabet, numbers, songs when she was in the "Panda" class (this is for the little guys, like 1-2 years old). And now she is in the "Honeybear" class (3-4 years old, think pre-K) and she is learning to write her letters and additional skills like using scissors. They also do cooking and science activities. There is plenty of time for the kids to play and just be kids, whether that is in the spacious backyard or playing dress up with their friends. Lisa and her staff are simply incredible. She has hired a fantastic group of wonderful and nurturing teachers to care for all of the kids. I really feel that each teacher loves these children and all they want is to see them happy and to grow and learn... which is what we want as parents ourselves. Throughout the year, there are planned parties for the daycare and all daycare families. The parties are usually associated with a holiday (Halloween, Christmas, 4th of July, etc). It is typically pot luck style and a fun way to get to know the other kids and their parents. I always enjoy these get togethers and I appreciate that Lisa plans these events. Also every few months she plans a PNO (Parent's night out)... where your child can stay at daycare until 9pm. The kids bring their jammies and have dinner together and do activities or watch movies. They allow siblings to attend for additional fees which is awesome. My husband and I always take advantage of PNO, so we can either go to the movies (which we never do!) or maybe out to dinner. Or even do some errands without the kiddos, HA! All of my friends who have kids in daycare/preschool have commented about how incredible our daycare is, when they hear the things that Lisa does and how she runs everything. They all wish they lived in my neighborhood so their own kids could attend here. My daughter will continue to attend preschool here until she starts kindergarten, and our youngest will start attending at the end of summer (Lisa does not take kids younger than 12 months). This is really a fantastic environment for children, where they can make friends and learn while having fun. That is how my husband and I felt when we walked into My Place Just for Kids, and met Lisa Skinner. Our son was two years old at the time, and we were looking for a fun, while structured environment for him to learn and thrive in. We didn't just want a daycare, or a babysitter, we wanted more. And we got more, way more! I love MPJFK. My daughter attended this daycare from 2011 to 2013 and she loved every second of it. I accidentally stumbled upon the daycare one day looking around my neighborhood on Google maps, checked it out and enrolled her a week or two later. Lisa is great with all the kids and really knows how to pick her teacher helpers out. They are always attentive and caring with each and ever kid, but also know how to discipline appropriately! The kids are fed healthy snacks and lunches which is GREAT and not found at most other daycares. She is very personable and communicates well during the day to let you know of anything happening, which can be helpful for the clingy parents :) I would and do recommend this daycare to all my friends who have kids between 2-5. As a parent finding a daycare for your child is by far one of the most nerve wracking experiences (so far). I had been actively on a few daycare waitlists (as in call every month to check the status) since I was 3 months pregnant (my child was 9 months old at this time). My standards were impossible. I had high expectations for the person or people who would be caring for my child. We had just moved to Santee and my search had expanded to my new local area. When I called Lisa she informed me that she did not have any open spaces (I was not surprised) I asked to be on her waitlist - but nothing was guaranteed. Here is where Lisa impressed me beyond measure. She called me back and offered me her resources. She had a list of daycare providers that she could recommend that may have openings. This was huge for me. Instead of just adding me to a list, she went above and beyond to try and help me find someone I could trust. I was intrigued - this showed that her passion was not just in her own business but in parents like me that were on the verge of giving up! MY FIRST VISIT AND DAYCARE DESCRIPTION: My first visit with MPJFK was shortly after this (after a miracle of cancellations and no-shows on the wait list). The feeling you get when you walk into this place is pure comfort - like going over to your favorite family member's house. I was astonished by the organization, friendliness of everyone, and genuine love and support. Lisa has transformed her house into an epic learning center! There is a learning classroom that teachers dream of. Each child has there picture on their cubby under a weekly activity board in the entrance. She has her own office set aside from the children's area. There is a covered outdoor classroom with tables and activities ready to go. And the backyard is transformed into a child's haven! Everything is clean and super organized. Each child has their own bedding, their own cubby to hold their belongings, and there is a wall of sensory specific toys that would make even the most organized parent jealous. LISA AND HER STAFF: This is NOT your typical daycare. Lisa has put so much heart into this program. The kids have a daily/weekly/monthly curriculum and a classroom like structure with plenty of different play and learning areas. The staff are aware of the kids' needs and their belongings down to a science (I have never even lost a shoe/sock/Tupperware lid there). Lisa texts me with immediate updates throughout the day whether my child is happy, scrapped her knee, is having a rough day, took a fall, or even just a picture. That is so comforting to a parent! My child is so happy when I pick them up and drop them off. I know Lisa, and her staff are caring for and loving on my child each day by the way she smiles at them. They are using their time, not just to watch my child but to teach my child and give my child boundaries. PROGRAM: My values as a parent are mimicked here from structure and play time to attention and nutrition. Lisa has been so thorough in creating a plan for each child that allows for them to be comfortable who they are, grow, discover and learn in the best environment they can. They have daily activities for each group of kids which is broken down into smaller age groups. They have plenty of play time and a new theme each week which includes Friday theme days where the kids get to dress according to the theme. Lisa makes sure to involve the parents too with family parties during the holidays and parents night out where she watches the kids for the parents to have a date night! I am so grateful to have My Place Just for Kids, we could not have found a better place for our child to grow. I can't stress enough to think twice about this daycare! I never expected to post ANOTHER review, but I think this should be seen. After writing review, I reached out to Lisa about tax information through text message and this was her response (at 10:30am on a Tuesday). *Disclaimer: everything she said is a lie and everything I said in my review is based on my own account.* Daycares don't send tax forms in the mail. That is a responsibility of employers to an employee. It is the parents responsibility to keep track of childcare expenses, as this was explained to you at the time of enrollment. But of course I keep records and out of courtesy I provide current clients a form at the end of the year and as they leave ( which I printed and provided to you on your last day). Thanks for the yelp retraction. Very kind of you. I'm sure you got a lot of the false information from the employee I terminated but that's irrelevant now. I'm glad to have this opportunity to clear up your misconceptions: I NEVER fed kids "Kraft" cheese slices!!! I feed the kids whole natural cheese and cut it into slices, and I do feed organic granola bars!! I do right by the children and make a conscious effort to NOT cut corners, especially with food. You would know any of this if you were ever present at breakfast or snacks. You could ONLY have received this untruthful information from the x employee you befriended. (I WAS PRESENT AND THIS WAS BASED ON MY OWN ACCOUNT) The moldy sippy cup spout was brought to YOUR attention, not the other way around...and we never fed your baby from it after we detected the mold on day one. It was an in appropriate type lid that was hard to keep clean. (THIS WAS NOT WHAT WAS SAID TO ME VIA TEXT. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CUP WAS CONTINUALLY WASHED, BUT MOLD KEPT COMING BACK) It's amazing how you viewed things so differently than how they really occurred, but didn't come to me with any of these concerns. Instead you left leaving us to believe everything was harmonious. You failed to include that your child was a chronic biter and grumpy each afternoon only because he was redirected from play for another bite. (THIS IS A HILARIOUS STATEMENT AND SO NOT WORTH MY TIME) Your complaint is cowardly and made from behind the computer screen. I know that disgruntled x employee fed you a bunch of crap. That why she was terminated: for her dishonesty. She couldn't get along with others either. She made up stories daily about them to me and vice versa. Even if this isn't the case, You too, seem to find fault in others very easily and your sharp tongue is visible to all who encounter your unkindness. You were the only mom at our daycare who didn't bond with the group. (AGAIN, ALL MY OWN ACCOUNT AND DIDN'T FEEL THE NEED TO TELL LISA DIRECTLY AFTER I HAD TIME TO THINK THINGS OVER AND MY CHILD WAS NO LONGER IN HER CARE. I AM STILL FRIENDS WITH MOMS ON FB!) We, including me treated your child with the utmost love and compassion and never held it against him that his mother was so rude. (I NEVER SAID YOU DID AND WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT. THAT SEEMS CRUEL!) I spend 50 work day hours a week plus weekends working on my business here and if I run personal errands on my RARE breaks that is my business. You try working 50 hours a week and not take a break! I am well within the time frame that a business owner should be present. I never shared the nature of my appointments on my personal time with parents, so again, you were given information from your friend. You didn't attempt to try and know anything about me or us. You didn't like the staff or the parents and it showed. I hope for your child's sake that you treat his future caregivers better than you did us, because some people out there aren't as nice to the child of a "meanie mom". (NICE NAME-CALLING. AND THESE ACCOUNTS OF TIME SPENT AWAY DOING HER NAILS AND HAIR CAME FROM HER MOUTH WHILE PICKING UP MY CHILD) I won't be replying to any more correspondence from you unless it is peaceful and until you remove that ridiculous yelp retraction. This isn't just a daycare. This is family and you feel like you're part of the family the moment you step inside. I searched for a long time for a daycare I felt comfortable leaving my son with. Looking in San Diego and the cost for daycare I almost went crazy. I found My Place Just For Kids online and decided to visit and get a tour. Fell in love! My son was with Lisa from about 2010 to 2012 and I was so sad to leave (The ONLY reason we left is because our family got stationed across country) The environment there is so nurturing and fun. There were lots of holiday parties that brought all the parents and children together like a small little community. She cooks the children yummy, delicious meals everyday, they had tons of time to have fun outdoors and be creative (My son always brought home the cutest arts and crafts). My son has been going here since he was 2 years old he is now 5 years old and is prepping for Kindergarten in Fall. He just took his assessment to start Kindergarten and he passed all areas with flying colors. This would have not been possible without the Amazing People at My Place, Just for Kids. The old daycare he was in felt he had learning disabilities and wanted him to join a special program but when an opening came available with Lisa and her daycare I put him in right away. MPJFK is wonderful! We came upon this place because our previous child care provider decided to close down. We had no idea where we were going to send our son. Then I remembered a friend of ours raving about where they sent their son. I looked up My Place Just For Kids on Facebook and was SO impressed with the setup considering it's an in-home day care. I quickly came to realize that this place has a very preschool vibe and that they would not just be watching my son but they would be teaching him as well. Lisa is very experienced and knowledgeable. There are not enough amazing things that I could say about my place, just for kids! We consider ourselves extremely blessed that our son is able to go to daycare here and be loved and taught by Lori and Lisa. He's so excited to go every morning without any fuss and that definitely makes this mama's heart happy and at peace. The amazing learning that they're teaching him at such a young age is a huge added bonus to the love and attention that they give. They make it fun everyday. They aren't just learning numbers and colors, they're being taught sign language, Spanish, science, cooking etc. There's a new project sent home everyday that's such a keepsake with his little hands, feet, paintings and crafts. Every week they get to bring a toy to share as well as once a week have a fun "dress up" day. This being incorporated is as fun for the parents as it is for the kids! When my husband and I toured and learned about this daycare, we knew this was the daycare for our (at the time) 1 year old son. My son is now 2 and he still loves it here. It offers the perfect mix of structure and warm home environment. Our boy has also learned please, thank you, bless you, and excuse me from attending! I'd love to take the credit for it, but he definitely surprised me! I was fortunate enough to be a SAHM for a while so as you can imagine, going back to work was tough because after all, who could I trust to take care of my babies better than me?! My kids are very close in age (15 months apart) so I was very lucky to be home with them both. We enrolled our daughter when she was 20 months old, initially on a PT basis so that she could learn and develop her social skills independently and so I could enjoy some one-on-one time with my son, but then we moved her to FT 6 months later when she decided to give up her naps at home. I don't know how Ms. Lisa does it but she is definitely, IMO, the non-napper's whisperer ..... now at 4-1/2 and 3-1/2, my kids are still napping for her (and only her -- still no naps when they're home with me -- Ha!). So eventually I went back to work so both my son and daughter have been enrolled at MPJFK since they were each 20 months old. I checked out other preschool facilities, as well as other home daycares but none were good enough for my babies until I found MPJFK! They received the nurturing that you can only find in a home daycare setting coupled with the curriculum found in a preschool environment. My son definitely had some social challenges and I really didn't want him to be in anyone's care but mine but wow, what a difference 6 months and a year made for my little man ..... seriously! Ms. Lisa and her staff are amazing with my kids and they have all become a part of our family. Actually, all of the other daycare families are now an extension of our family. I love that Ms. Lisa hosts family parties throughout the year so that we (the parents) can all get to know one another and from there, new friendships were formed, not just between the kids but between the parents too. So it has become so much more than just a daycare for my children but (hopefully) lifelong friendships too. At MPJFK, my kids get the love and attention they deserve and the education (from a preschool standpoint) and social skills they need to help mold them into the little people they are today. I'm a parent beaming with pride over how smart, sweet and polite my children are thanks to Ms. Lisa and her staff. It's wonderful that we're always on the same page together since she is such a big part of how my children are being raised. As some of the other reviewers noted, Ms. Lisa's home actually looks like a home and always smells so nice ..... how she keeps her home so immaculate, I don't know ..... my home looks more like a daycare than hers does. Ha! I've never known of a home daycare looking and smelling so clean all the time like MPJFK does ..... all the time ..... I've always been so impressed! :) As for the education, she offers a school year curriculum (Sept-May) and then more of a summer camp style from June-Aug. My daughter has become quite the little artist this past year and I know it's because of MPJFK. Both my kids know their letters, numbers, colors, shapes, etc. and will be completely prepared for kindergarten when the times comes (which will be in 6 months for my daughter -- she's really making great strides and I feel confident she will be more than prepared when school starts in the fall). I just can't say enough good things about Ms. Lisa and her staff! The thought of my daughter leaving her for public school makes me so emotional but thankfully we still have some time before my son will be leaving too. She really has become an instrumental part of my children's lives and I'm thankful we found someone with the same core values as ours to help raise these two amazing little people!!! :) read more

I was always weary about home daycares until I found MPJFK. My little guy started there at 2 and has grown leaps and bounds (3 1/2 yrs old now). The teachers and owner really love and care about the kids in their care and help them learn in many ways. He even is learning a little Spanish which is awesome. Highly recommend!!! read more

Our 2 daughters have been attending MPJFK for 2 years and we couldn't be happier. Lisa is an amazing director who is always making her school current, fun, and an amazing place to grow. Sarah, her assistant director is amazing, and they always have a knack for picking the best staff members and teachers. Although this is an 'in-home daycare' Lisa truly runs her program with the academics of a big preschool. The staff:child ratio is amazing, typically 1:3 or 1:4. This allows each child's individual social and academic needs, concerns, developmental progress, etc. to be addressed and carefully monitored. She has a fun arts and crafts activity each day and incorporates letters, numbers, colors, shapes, frequency words into daily lessons. Our oldest was more than ready for Kindergarten & our youngest will be when that day comes. She also holds parties several times a year so that parents can mingle together and kids enjoy special guests like the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus! We just love all of the care, attention, events and our kiddos already LOVE school because of Lisa's program! read more

I had the privilege of working with Lisa at MPJFK prior to me opening my own home daycare. I love the quality of her daycare and used many of her teaching techniques and activities in how I ran my daycare. She is excellent with the children and treats them like her own. What I liked most about My place, just for kids is how well loved my son ( and all the kids) was. There is learning and laughter that goes on side by side. He was always happy to go and sad to leave. It felt like he was just part of a family, and when you have to leave your child and go to work- that is the best possible feeling. My son enjoyed his time with Miss Lisa and friends and only left as he "graduated" off to school- well prepared. I will always be grateful to Lisa for all the care and love she gives to all her kids, especially mine. read more

Wow! I don't even know where to begin. My Place Just For Kids is AMAZING!!! My oldest, now 4 1/2 attended there since he was 22 months old. In his young life he had been to several daycares... And none seemed the right fit for him and our family. Until we met Ms. Lisa... She is so warm and kind. She loves ALL children at her daycare. She takes the time to nurture them like a mom, yet help them learn like a teacher too. As a Kindergarten teacher myself, it is important to see my child being prepared for "big boy school" as he calls it. We love it there so much that as soon as he was old enough, our 2nd child began attending. The staff is loving and fun, the curriculum is engaging, and the environment is positive. This is not JUST a home daycare, it is a home away from home for my boys. We feel like My Place Just For Kids is part of our family. When previous students return to visit for years to come, you know that's a good sign. We love everything about this place. You'd be lucky to have your child attend! read more
