When I first started wedding planning about 9-10 months ago, we wanted an Asian American wedding with a modern twist and a western reception with subtle Asian elements. TL;DR: 11/10 would hire My Wedding Songbird again and recommend them to get things done. I had been working with Sarah and her team at My Wedding Songbird for the last six months for my wedding. After I booked my venue in August I thought I was close to done. Then I was overwhelmed with questions and inquiries about everything else I was supposed to do and I realized I wasn't even close to being done. Once my shock had passed and I was coherent again I asked my husband's sisters for advice. They gave me 4 planner to contact. Sarah was the only one to respond with such warmth and kindness that I knew I was already tethered to her. I had no vision for my wedding but through conversations, simple questionnaires, and zoom meetings, Sarah was able to visualize my wedding for me. As calm as I started in our initial meetings, I freaked out each month because I'm disorganized and have short attention. Sarah was always there for me when I needed her. Sarah from My Wedding Songbird was a literal Godsend for our wedding - our Lady Savior from above! I would start a church in her name if I could. We first booked Sarah as our officiant and day-of coordinator in 2019 from a word-of-mouth referral (yes, she was that popular). From the first meeting, she came off as someone who cared deeply for her clients and made us feel very comfortable, even though we were in way over our heads by trying to plan our own wedding & didn't know any better. Thankfully, she was always happy to offer expert advice whenever we needed a nudge in the right direction. When we had to postpone due to the pandemic, Sarah was happy to move our dates no questions asked, and even sent us a lovely gift on our would-be wedding day. While our big day drew close, her team started engaging us 6 weeks prior and laid out very organized & detailed spreadsheets to document every minute detail of the event. As an officiant, Sarah was hilarious, charming, and incorporated a ton of personal details into the script that not only made our ceremony extra memorable, but also kept all the guests laughing and entertained. Not to mention her Mandarin & vocal skills were both on point. I lost count of how many guests had told us how great of an officiant she was after the wedding! For the day of coordination, I won't go into everything she and her team of 3 wonderful assistants (Demi, Patricia, and Anna) did because they did so much, but I would say a good way to tell if your coordination team did an amazing job is if you (bride/groom) had a great time and didn't have answer a single question from the vendors the entire evening. And that's exactly what happened. We had a blast and didn't have to worry about a thing! Well, we did have to put up with vendors constantly pestering us about how great a job Sarah and her team did throughout the night :P A few things worth noting: 1. We had a ton of DIY decors that needed Sarah's help to set up, and she did an amazing job, especially with our dessert and welcome tables where we left her very little instructions. 2. We actually ran out of bottled water a few times throughout the evening, and her team went out and got multiple cases for us right away. 3. I'm confused because Sarah's other reviews are so glowing and positive. I chose her because a friend of a friend hired her for a multi-cultural wedding banquet, which looked gorgeous. From the beginning, I was up-front that I didn't mind doing legwork, but that I didn't want to worry in the days leading up to and day of the wedding. I had said if this was for my best friend, I could be the planner and coordinator, but since it's for me and my best friend is abroad, I needed help navigating rentals, vendors, day-of. Sarah likely does better in a more traditional environment where she can bring in her chosen vendors & budget is more open. We DID use 4 vendors she had worked with before, so I really don't understand what happened. As a hands-on, creative problem-solver like myself, she did not step-up where expected (or outlined in the contract) until mere days before our wedding. Sarah wasn't a good match & was the only awkward link in an otherwise amazing day. TL/DR version: 4 helpful things Sarah did: Had our day-of signage printed, saving us $60. Table setting mock-up. Convinced venue to store some chairs out of sight at the last minute. Loaned us items from her inventory. 6 things I did as the bride, but had expected the "partial planner / coordinator" to help or provide input on: 1. Created layouts/seating charts for ceremony/reception 2. Created day-of timeline 2 mos ahead. Sarah's input was suggesting we cut the cake BEFORE we sat down to eat dinner. 3. Determined rental items (chairs, plates, etc). Sarah didn't provide input until 1 wk prior. 4. Determined the number of staff she needed, including hrs/rate. 5. 48 hrs pre-wedding, she had not gathered COIs (certificate of insurance) from vendors, which were due 2 wks prior. Her own was submitted only 5 days prior. We demanded she stop making excuses & fix it immediately, so venue didn't cancel wedding. 6. I requested linens steamed + paid for extra folks to help her. Seeing the photos of the wedding, the tablecloths have hard creases and don't appear to be steamed at all. 11 issues that indicated her lack of being detail-oriented or engaged: 1. At rehearsal, she asked about things already set for 2+ mos. She asked how to identify VIPs. I said there's a tab in the spreadsheet. She got defensive and said it wasn't there. But it was. 2. She had cringey moment w/caterer in 1st group mtg. She made judgmental comments about officiant, who is a dear friend. She eye-rolled ALL of us at some point. 3. Guests asked if this was Sarah's 1st wedding. They said everyone else was on-point, but the "girls with headsets" seemed confused. 4. For the tea ceremony, I found most of my guidance on Google. My husband asked her to give his parents a little primer to ease their nerves & she offered zero help. 5. Her team forgot the boutonnieres in fridge. The chef showed them to me as we packed-up. 6. Cake table wasn't moved into guests view. I beckoned everyone to gather/watch us cut cake. Drapery was never secured out of the way properly. I had to shove it behind a plant myself. 7. Sarah approached me about staff being stuck in parking lot, with a tone suggesting it was my fault. The issue was a simple shift change. Blaming me in the middle of my wedding was uncool. 8. Sarah alerted us the bartender was out of wine as I watched servers behind her pouring wine for guests. Problem was solved before she approached us, but our dinner was interrupted because of poor communication. 9. Sarah's team never retrieved the payment, parking, & tip envelopes I prepared for vendors. They sat in my bag all night. A fail for her commitment to vendors. 10. As we were leaving to go home, Sarah informed us that she wasn't taking the bins of decor w/ her. We drove home, unloaded our vehicle, returned to the venue for the bins. Sarah tried to leave before we returned, but my MOH and cousin insisted she stay to load the bins for us. Sarah tried to get my husband to overrule them. Poor way to close-out our wedding celebration. Friends & family would have loaded-out for us, but Sarah's news came after everyone left. Even the caterer offered to take the items for us. Surprises suck. Especially on your wedding night due to poor communication. 11. One of her team posted about our wedding & mischaracterized we hired 2 extra staff (it was my call, not hers). When I reached out to Sarah over Instagram her response was "I didn't know what she was going to write." Ok, but Sarah reposted it & tagged me, which was either laziness or shade. I just can't imagine that each of these things is a mere misunderstanding or that I was a jerk. 1 or 2 things. Sure. Maybe even 3. But all of the above points add up to bigger issues. There was a contract & a few thousand dollars exchanged. I never asked for anything free. Being budget-conscious isn't the same as cheap. Hiring Sarah was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding! We went with the partial planning package as we had secured the venue already but felt unprepared to do the rest without support. This package worked for us as we did not know how much things should cost and how to budge appropriately. We wanted someone to get quotes, secure vendors, and advocate for us. Sarah checked all these boxes for us. See reasons below: 1. We didn't have much of a vision on what we wanted our venue to look like. Sarah went to the venue on her own as we were busy at work to look at table cloths, table settings, napkins, and chairs for us. She took example pictures for our reference. We didn't know if we needed chair covers but Sarah assured us the chairs would look ok without them. This helped us stick to our budget without compromising the final look. 2. Sarah helped obtain multiple quotes for all the vendors. She was able to coordinate my hair and makeup trial (after I got turned down by 2 hair/makeup artists who were already booked 9 months out) with our engagement photos which was a difficult feat given all the competing schedules and limited time frame. She also obtained multiple dance floor quotes which saved us so much time and hundreds of dollars. 3. Sarah was familiar with our photographer and was able to work with her to get us a discount and accommodate a 2.5 hour break on our wedding day between our tea ceremony and wedding ceremony/celebration. 4. Sarah held our hands through the entire process with monthly check-ins and a mega-Google spreadsheet with multiple tabs that helped us stay on schedule and organized. She was friendly, easygoing, and non-judgmental the whole time which we are so thankful for. 5. She was also able to attend our tea ceremony the morning of our wedding to help walk us through the ritual and customs since my relatives in Asia were not able to attend and help us out with this process. 6. Sarah coordinated with our decorator to place a neon sign that we had given to her until 4 hours prior to the wedding. We just asked her to put it somewhere it could be plugged in. Because of Sarah's coordination, this neon sign became the focal point of our wedding photo booth backdrop and ended up in every photo! It looked absolutely amazing! 7. She accompanied us to 2 venue meetings and helped advocate for us with our nice but impatient Chinese restaurant manager who was always "too busy" to speak to us during hectic meal service hours but whom we couldn't catch during off hours. 8. Sarah also provided a bonus service of wedding content creator and posted multiple Instagram stories of the "behind the scenes" of our tea ceremony and wedding. These were so awesome to repost/review and save for myself. I often see people on Instagram advertising these services for a fee and was so excited we were able to enjoy this bonus with Sarah being out wedding planner. I booked her due to her being bi-lingual and because she had past experience at Lunasia, the chinese banquet hall I had my wedding at. After a lot of research and a few interviews with other planners, we hired Sarah as our partial planner/day of coordinator. I felt that she was the most personable of the bunch - she asked questions about us during the initial call that gave me a good sense that she was trying to 'learn' us, likes/dislikes, etc. and most importantly, she was within and understood our budget from the start. It was also important to us that our planner have experience with Asian weddings and spoke fluent Chinese as that was where our reception would be. I had already started researching other things that I had and explained that + what I needed help with. I know some people are hesitant about getting a planner (STRONGLY recommend getting a day of coordinator at least!!), but after this experience, I would highly recommend it. Sarah was such an amazing resource and her spreadsheet/monthly meetings kept us in check on the time line. I consider myself as a very organized person, but life can be overwhelming as it is, let alone planning a large event like a wedding. Her team was also amazing. If you're looking for a wedding planner/coordinator who is dedicated and on top of everything, you can stop looking because Sarah is your girl. We're from Chicago and wanted to have a destination wedding. We still wanted to include our traditional tea ceremony, (even though we knew it wouldn't be super traditional due to the travel), so we wanted to find an Asian wedding planner who would have experience with fitting that into the wedding day. After speaking with Sarah on the phone and seeing how she was super personable and experienced, we decided to book her. During the whole planning process, we conducted all our meetings over Zoom and Sarah was very accommodating with the time difference. She was super patient and flexible with us throughout, even when we had to change our destination 3 times due to personal reasons (I was freaking out but she remained calm and told me everything will work out, which it did). Sarah was also very responsive over email and texts so we always knew what was going on with vendors and whatnot. Since I'm very indecisive and wasn't too picky about details, she was always willing to offer her advice/input, which I appreciated. We had our wedding on the island of Oahu and everything turned out so beautiful. Prior to the big day, Sarah accompanied us on our venue and some vendor visits in Hawaii. She also helped us by picking up and transporting our signages and other miscellaneous decorations from LA to Hawaii. On the day of, Sarah and Chanel, her assistant, made sure all the guests and vendors knew where to go and did their best to stay on schedule. Sarah and Chanel also helped decorate the chapel for our Chinese/Vietnamese tea ceremony. Chanel did the Cantonese translation for the ceremony and I heard she did a good job (I only know Vietnamese so this is based on what my husband and guests told me haha). We are so glad that we have found Sarah as our wedding planner. She has been very attentive, involving and guiding us through every step of the way. We have told friends many times during the wedding planning process that Sarah was the best investment we made! She was incredibly thorough and asked things we never even thought about. She was so easy to work with and never made anything seem like a big deal. With Sarah, it was perfect in our situation (bilingual was a big plus), a one-stop shop - we used her as the wedding planner + officiant + MC. We had a great turned out, all the design/theme was perfect, our guests were having fun the whole time - eating ~ drinking ~ & playing! We had an emergency came up just 2 days before the wedding. Our rental vendor broke the wine glasses we rented, and there weren't enough for our event. It has been 6 months since my wedding. As I look back on the the big day, I still think working with Sarah is one of the best decisions I have ever made in life. Being a bride who had very limited resources and only got 3 months for planning, I would say Sarah's help was significant.
