Exceptional!!! DJ Tim Preston was the linchpin of our wedding celebration. Tim started off with a call with my fiancé and myself to understand what we were looking for regarding music, flow and setting. I was disappointed when I found out that the wedding coordinator found my daughter upset in her bridal sweet because the DJ was not playing all the music from her playlist she created. The name sounds kind of bush-league, like pets.com. But I went to them for my wedding, and they -- specifically the highly recommended Michael Bell -- were the epitome of class. Michael worked with us closely from the start. He came all the way to DC to meet with us twice to go over our music tastes and the vibe we wanted to have at the wedding. He also made it clear that he wasn't one of the guys who talks too much or hijacks somebody else's show with a mic, which was class, once again. We didn't want our wedding to resemble a middle-school dance. He stuck to his word at the wedding and blended perfectly into the scene. If it resembled a middle-school dance, it's my fault because I requested "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls and "Lovefool" by The Cardigans. He didn't play everything we originally requested, but he knew how to respond to the mood of the party better than us. Trust him: He knows what he's doing. Mike used to (and might still) work at Clyde's on Thursdays, where he spun an eclectic mix for the drunken AU crowd. Where to begin? My wedding was at the Hay Adams and when we locked down the venue we knew we had raised the expectations for everything related to our wedding. So I did my research and came back with MyDeejay based on the hundreds of glowing reviews. My initial communication was with Jennifer (Co-Owner) and she was incredibly helpful not only locking down a DJ (Brian) but also providing recommendations with other vendors for our wedding. I can't honestly remember if my wife went with their vendor recommendation but Jennifer was prompt with her response and always making sure we had all the information we needed. Now on to Brian Jones, He's Awesome as a professional and awesome to work with. My family and friends are hispanic so I wanted to get a DJ that would be in tune with the style of music we wanted (salsa, merengue, music from my home country Colombia) while also mixing with electronica / club and more mainstream styles. I also wanted someone who could pronounce our names correctly when introduced at the reception and he went above and beyond to make sure he got everything right. During the preparation phase we met twice, once in person to talk initial information and contract, he was very accommodating about time and place and made everything super easy for me. We were then given access to their online tools which include a massive database of music where you can choose from "Must Plays", "Play if possible", to "Do Not Play" songs and artists. We added some songs they didn't have in their Database but he got the music in time for the event. The second time we met we were able to make a video call via skype with him and completed the last items which was perfect because it was getting close to our wedding and we were really swamped with wedding related events and to-dos. On our wedding day, Brian was at the reception ready to go way in advance of the time we needed him, he positioned himself perfectly on the dance floor in order to let the guests enjoy the view from the Top of the hay and made sure he was impeccable in both performance and attire. He met us prior to the reception after the photos to double check the list of events, names, pronunciation and met with the wedding party before they walked in and made sure his pronunciation was on spot. During the reception the music was perfect, followed the crowds moods with just the right music, I think he took requests (which we allowed) and stayed within our guidelines. The bottom line is we had an AMAZING time, we are incredibly grateful to Brian for the work he did and MyDeejay for making the whole process just easy. Several of my friends are professional photographers and as such they have strong opinions about the use of "party lights by DJs". One of the discussions was particularly about how these party lights ruin otherwise perfect wedding party pictures because of green dots on dresses, or other designs that detract. So when I went looking for a DJ I specifically was looking for one that I could have them skip the lights. We found MyDeeJay through a friend and had an excellent experience in booking. The pricing is clear on their website and their online system to pick music is easy to manage. We met once with Anthony (our DJ) to go over and sign the contract and we chatted with him over the phone about two weeks before the wedding to make sure everything was what we wanted and that he had everyone's name right. Some of the music we wanted was a little more obscure and he found about 6 versions of one song we really wanted. Based solely on my comments about the song he picked the right one, but sent it to me via email a few days before the big event to ensure it was the right version. He was incredibly professional. Shortly before procession into the reception, my best friend's little girl made friends with my niece (our flower girl) and they didn't want to separate. So I asked her to join the party and Anthony was able to announce her entrance with my flowergirl all at the last moment. We worked with Brian Jones, of MyDeeJay, and he was absolutely fantastic. He, without a doubt, made the party what it was. From the very beginning, Brian was amazing to work with. He was extremely professional during our introductory phone call - explaining his style, how he liked to work with couples, and his back-up plan in the event of unforseen illness or unavailability. (That was particularly important to us when we were hiring a specific person - and Brian's plan was comprehensive and perfect - not that it was necessary!) In particular, we loved Brian's philosophy of keeping the party moving without becoming the center of attention. Brian was fantastic to work with in the days leading up to the wedding. We filled out MyDeeJay's online form (which asked for songs we wanted to hear, and those we didn't want to hear) but Brian also set up a call where we were able to talk through everything, and make sure we were all on the same page. He was also very responsive in terms of making sure that there were adequate equipment for the ceremony, enough microphones for the readers and co-officiants, and that he was all set for the music cues. We also had a friend of ours who was singing a few songs, and he was great to work with to make sure that our friend had the equipment and tracks she needed. The day of itself was amazing! Brian was great at setting everything up, and then for the dancing itself, everything was just perfect. He was so good at reading the room, and making sure that everyone was up and dancing. He was one of the best DJs we had ever seen - and many of our guests said the same. He really made the party what it was. Brian was professional, competent, and so good at making the party rock. MyDeeJay came recommend to my fiancé and I via my sister who had previously booked them for an upcoming wedding. After her glowing remarks and the great reviews read online, we figured we had to give them a try. At first, it seemed too good to be true, but we went with it. We first spoke with the VP, Jennifer (the owner's wife) and discussed the details of the wedding (venue, dates/time, guests etc...). They then put us in contact with a local DJ who seemed to fit our needs. We met up with Anthony and further went over the details of our wedding wants and wishes. Anthony was great, professional and willing to go above and beyond for what we wanted for our wedding day. With our venue being quite large, we wanted to ensure their equipment would be sufficient. Anthony stressed the high caliber equipment they used and since they don't charge for additional speakers, he would bring an extra subwoofer and pair of speakers to ensure quality sound. Unfortunately that was the end of the 'too good to be true' thoughts as it went downhill quickly. Anthony provided us a contract with price in which we had 2 weeks to sign and return. The next morning we get an email that states MyDeeJay is now going to charge us two times the original price. In the email it stated since our guest count was higher than 'normal' they would need to bring a second DJ, thus requiring the second cost of a DJ. Since when does running a Macbook through 5 vs 3 speakers require two DJ's? We immediately called Anthony to discuss and he was very vague and stated we needed to call Evan the owner. My discussion with Evan disproved any theory that the customer is even remotely right. Even though Evan admits both his employees, one being his wife, failed to inform us of the additional charges for a wedding over 250 guests, the only responsibility they took was to pass the additional charge directly onto us. They want to charge us $3500 to have a second DJ at our wedding for six hours. Since Evan stated they don't employ 'Roadies', the expertise needed in transportation/set-up/take down was worth an additional $1750. While very apologetic, at no point did anyone in the company come to us saying; 'I'm sorry we messed up. Since we realize it was our mistake, we would like to work with you on a price'. It's obvious to us their business is doing so well that losing a customer to their 100% error is fine with them and not worth making any attempt to resolve. While my fiancé and I have to laugh this one off, it astounds us that someone can run a business this way. Yes their website states that pricing is for up to 250 guests and if more please call for details. We did place that call, met with their DJ and thought we could move on planning additional details of our wedding. Then come to find out 2 employees of their business make an error and the additional price is outlandish. We would have never wasted our valuable time if they would have been up front and honest with us, as we were with them. While they have a great product to offer and even provide what to look for and watch out for in using a DJ, they don't stand behind their word or even their own literature "What to Avoid When Hiring a Wedding DJ' - 'Distraction and Misleading', 'Up-Selling and Add-Ons' and 'Double Dipping - When a DJ charges you for additional equipment'. read more

Absolutely amazing service!!! Evan was our DJ at Kent Manor for an event on 8/3/12 and he was able to make our evening great with perfectly timed transitions and a fantastic feel for the moment. He knew what songs to play and when to play them. Also for the outdoor ceremony he was able to accommodate various singers, an acoustic guitar amped, and mics for the pastor, without a single glitch. No feedback no reverb and everyone could hear what was going on. This is very hard to do but he made it look easy. When my now-husband and I started wedding planning, we agreed that having a great DJ was one of our highest priorities. We are so grateful to have found MyDeejay, specifically DJ Anthony. We could not have had a better experience with the company. From start to finish, MyDeejay was extremely professional and easy to work with. We were initially drawn to their excellent reviews and their philosophy: their business model is transparent (no hidden upcharges) and their DJs aren't gimmicky emcees trying to hog the spotlight. In our initial phone call, Anthony was clear that our wedding guests would know why they were there -- to celebrate our marriage! -- and that his job as the DJ would be to keep the dance floor packed and the evening moving along smoothly, without being cheesy or dragging people onto the dance floor. He asked a number of great questions about our musical tastes and the age demographics of our guests, which really impressed us. Ultimately, your wedding is a party for all your guests, so we appreciated him getting a read on the age groups that would be represented in advance so he could play music that would appeal to all different generations. In the lead-up to the wedding, MyDeejay sent us a link to their planning system, which is super convenient and allows you to specify your timeline and all your song choices for key moments (parent-child dances, bouquet toss, last dance, etc.). We could also enter a "definitely play," "maybe play," and "do not play" list, which was great. We kept our requests fairly minimal, since we trusted Anthony to read the crowd, but it was helpful to get our few song requests in before the big day. More importantly, it was helpful to specify the type of music we *didn't* want played (i.e., cheesy line dances and songs that we really didn't like or found offensive). Anthony was also super awesome when it came to editing a few key songs, including our first dance, which we wanted to trim from ~4 minutes to ~2 minutes. We gave him a very specific list of edits, because we wanted to keep key parts of the song while cutting sections out of the middle, and we were blown away by how natural his edit sounded -- it was perfect, not choppy or awkward-sounding at all. Most importantly, on our wedding day, Anthony absolutely killed it. He nailed every cue, was an elegant and professional emcee when it came to wedding party intros and announcements of key events like the bouquet toss, and kept the dance floor packed all night. He even offered to bring us drinks, which was extremely nice of him. We got a huge number of compliments on how awesome the dance party was and how great Anthony was. He truly knocked it out of the park and we were beyond thrilled, as were our parents. Anthony, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making our wedding the best night of our lives!
