Most of the employees here were great. Unfortunately, one of them was completely awful, and it ultimately caused my sister to seek out bridesmaid dresses at another store despite the fact that she had already committed to buying her wedding dress here. While trying on bridesmaid dresses, my non-bride sister and one of my engaged sister's friends were trying on dresses. Now the friend was a few sizes larger, which is no big deal to us, but apparently it was to the sales girl. She repeatedly made a point of coming out with several dresses and loudly saying things like, "These will work for our bigger bridesmaid and then these others are the small sizes," as she handed the dresses to them to be tried on. Several other customers looked stunned at the way she kept phrasing it. What's especially odd is that other employees were nearby and no one thought to take her aside and suggest that maybe the "bigger bridesmaid" had a name that could be used instead of repeatedly pointing out the fact that her size was slightly out of the single digit range. If you have a less than petite bridesmaid, I would strongly recommend that you go elsewhere where you can be treated with a little more respect and dignity. I have no idea if this particular girl is still working there, but if the owners have any sense, they'll realize that her attitude cost them at least one big sale (4 bridesmaid dresses) and possibly many more with people who didn't speak up. read more

I have only dealt with this place through phone and a friend, but advise anyone to stay away. They're either dishonest or bad at their jobs, neither of which is appropriate. I submitted my measurements (plus "petite but athletic, true size 6. Seriously, order me a six.") to a friend, the bride. Upon working with Formals she was told to "round up." They ordered me a 12. In no way, shape or form, should that have ever been the case. Especially when two other bridesmaid selected dresses true to size (a 4 and an 8) so the store had a reference point. They had absolutely no merit to order off of whatever "size chart" they referenced. Two remaining bridesmaids also weren't able to make the sizing and were ordered a 14 and 16. A clerk actually recommended an 18 with a casual, "that will cost more for extra fabric!" However, they are also size 8s. So I'm writing this on their behaves too. Now I have to pay $90 for alterations for a dress that was never ordered correctly in the first place. Two other friends in the area are completely steering clear of this place now; we'd recommend others to do the same. read more

When we simply called to inquire about returning her dress, that she never received, Lisa took a very rude tone and started yelling at us! I bought my prom dress here. I had a great experience! Our consultant, who I don't know the name of, was very nice. She was very patient and helpful. She didn't push me to buy a dress and let me pick completely on my own what dress I wanted. She also made sure to check with us many times before letting me try on dresses over our budget. I also love the ring system they have. You pick 4 of your favorite dresses and put a ring on them when you come in. Then after you start trying on you are allowed to keep rings on two of your favorite dresses at all times. This helps you not get too confused on, which dresses you like. I'm glad Formals of Litchfield was able to help me find the perfect dress for prom my senior year! read more

I had a wonderful time selecting my wedding dress from here! I had tried several other places and one thing that frustrated me was that no one would let me take pictures of my dresses so I could look back at them while making my decision. Here I was able to take pictures of my final selections before officially deciding. They also were very understanding and flexible with payment options and when I decided to change my hairstyle last minute, they helped me pick out new accessories and weren't angry I was changing something at all. They took the time to sit with my mother and I before we even looked at dresses to get an idea of what we were looking for. They found a dress that matched perfectly what I described as my dream dress! I was also mesmerized by a beautiful dress they had on the mannequin. They didn't act annoyed in the slightest and took it right off the mannequin for me. That beautiful gown became what we called my va va voom dress and was the one I ultimately selected. I think they make great choices with their displays and I may have never found my perfect dress had it just been hanging on a hanger. I am so grateful for my experience there! read more

Beware that this store is pushy and rude. I took my daughter and her friend in to look at prom dresses. They only gave the girls 30 minutes to try on a maximum of 4 dresses. They kept asking "is this the dress because your almost out of time?". Now to be fair the store was busy but I felt very pressured to buy the dress right then. So we bought the dress only to find out a couple weeks later that her best friend bought the same dress in the same color, for much cheaper I might add! I called the store to see if there was any way to upgrade to a more expensive dress or perhaps exchange for a different color and not only would they not help, they were very rude about it. I will not be shopping here again. read more

I am a plus size bride and I went to 5 or 6 stores before someone told me about formals of Litchfield. After all those stores of dresses that didn't fit me because I am not the "ideal sample size" I was feeling very anxious and nervous about continuing wedding dress shopping. I can honestly say formals of Litchfield was the first time my wedding dress experience was 100% positive. We went at a time where no one else was there and we had assistance from the owner and both consultants. Our primary consultant (I wish I can remember her name) was excellent. She encouraged me to only try on dresses that would fit me where other salons just pulled whatever size they had and shoved me into it. Nothing destroys a bride's self image more than being told that half the dresses she was interested in won't fit her. After trying on five dresses I finally found my dress that I had been wanting, fit, fabric, and everything! Not to mention they had MATCHING cap sleeves in stock! I got the dress, my accessories, and a bag for less than what other salons wanted for just the dress and alterations alone. No pressure what so ever (the owner actually told me that if the dresses I was trying on didn't beat the one dress I had already picked out, to go back to the other salon and get the other dress...not try to sell me one that I wasn't sure I LOVED). After I purchased my dress they also let me look through bridesmaid samples and gave me ideas there as well. They even pulled a few samples they had in stock for me to look at so I had I better idea than picture. Much more positive experience than my previous appointments. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone. Just a note though they do sell "off the rack" so if you find a dress you love, buy it then because it might not be there when you come back. read more

Horrible customer service! The owner, Lisa, was disrespectful and rude when questioned about establishing contracts with minors. We were treated with disdain and informed about her no refund policy of 27 years... even when the merchandise didn't leave the store within the 3 day deposit window. The notice she hands out states "You will be issued a STORE CREDIT for the $50.00 "after" the gown goes back to the floor at the end of the 3rd day." She argued that applied to anytime before, as well...3-day hold is also non-refundable. She was condescending and asked "Do you understand store credit?" I was stunned this was coming from the owner! Earlier she stated it was legal in Illinois to enter a contract with a minor...she was corrected, that only applies to emancipated minors and it must be a necessity. She confirmed it with her lawyer and attempted to claim clothing was a necessity. She refunded the deposit stating so she didn't have to deal with me. Lisa needs to work on her customer service skills and provide the higher level of respect for her patrons. She should be embarrassed by her behavior and stop forcing her employees to validate it! Her behavior was disgraceful and not provoked in any way. I went to another establishment on the same day $1K costs...totally positive transaction. $50?...It could gave been a completely different experience! Seriously Lisa! Formals of Litchfield is AMAZING!!! On Friday, August 29 I was absolutely devastated to find out that 2 weeks before my wedding, my wedding dress, which I bought from a large chain retailer in Springfield, IL, was completely ruined because of the VERY shotty alterations. Because the dress had been discontinued, the store was unable to replace it for me and told me I would have to find a replacement off the rack. Completely distrusting of that store, I made the choice to receive a full refund and take my business elsewhere. My coworker convinced me to give Formals of Litchfield a try, and promised me an unforgettable experience. From the second I walked in, the Formals staff was warm, friendly, receptive, and gave me undivided attention. Not believing that I could possibly find another dress that I would love as much this close to my wedding, I was a bit skeptical, however the staff promised me that they would do whatever they could to make me feel like the bride I was. After trying on only 3 dresses, I remember walking out of the fitting room in my dream dress, looking at myself in the mirror and crying happy tears for the first time in a long time. I looked and felt like the most beautiful bride and FINALLY had the moment that everyone hopes for! To my surprise, the dress was not only in my budget, but actually below what I expected! Upon checkout the store owner recommended a fabulous alterations store, and even called the store to see if they had openings! My entire experience at Formals was one I'll never forget. Now, less than 2 weeks from my wedding, I am counting down the minutes and seconds, eagerly anticipating wearing the dress of my dreams and becoming a wife! I had a horrible experience at Formals in Litchfield, Illinois. First of all, the bridesmaids dresses came in 2 weeks later than we were told. Then my zipper was broke and had to be sent back to the manufacturer. No big deal, things happen. I was told it would be back by a certain date. I called after that date to see if my dress was in and the owner was rude and yelled at me. She stated it would be here when it got here and not to call her back because this is not their fault and contact the manufacturer if I had anymore questions. She told me that our entire bridal party has been nothing but a nusance. I will never spend a dollar with Formals, again! read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME VISITING THIS ESTABLISHMENT. If I could give this store a zero star rating, I would. Short version, the owner is rude, dishonest, and takes advantage of under aged girls. For details, read on. The customer service was awful, and the owner, Lisa, was extremely rude and condescending to my mom and I. My sister, who is under the age of 18, visited the store with a friend to look for prom dresses. She payed $50 to put a $400 dress on hold and signed a contract which basically said that the $50 would have to either go towards that dress or used as store credit for anything else in the store. Because she is under 18, and Illinois law clearly states that no minor can be permanently bound to a contract unless for a necessity my mom had a huge problem with this did not want to do business with a store with such low ethical standards. My mom did not give her permission to do this, nor did she approve of the dress that was placed on hold, so we drove an hour to this store to get the money back. When we arrived, we were politely greeted by Lisa who introduced herself as the owner. After we explained our reason for coming, however, her attitude quickly changed. She lied to us, claiming tha legal age in Illinois is 17 rather than 18, spoke to us as if we were incompetent...asking questions like "do you know what store credit is?" and told us that she wasn't going to do anything about it. She told us that because my sister signed this contract, she wouldn't even take the dress off hold unless she heard from my sister's mouth that she didn't want it. She said that we were wrong about the legal age and that she didnt understand what we wanted her to do. I could see that they were both getting frustrated, so I tried to explain that my mom just wanted a refund because she had no longer had intentions on spending money there and my sister can't legally bind herself to any contract so she didn't really have a choice. She then told me to stop butting in because the conversation didn't involve me and that I was out of place. We left the store and referenced multiple people and online resources for the truth about this law, and confirming that the legal age for a binding contract was indeed 18, so we went back to the store to hopefully get the situation rectified. Upon our second arrival, we weren't greeted so politely. My mom told her what we found out, and she still said that we were wrong and said that she didn't know what we wanted her to do and said to take it up with her lawyer...but then she wouldn't tell us who her lawyer was or how to contact him/her. She told us that we needed to write her a letter requesting the information (mind you, were standing right in front of her). She, then, proceeded to call her lawyer, and he told her exactly what we told her. She wrote us a check for $50 dollars and told us to get out of her store. read more

Stephanie was super rude. The bride was judged based on how many dresses she had tried on and how many places she had gone to. Stephanie made the family feel like they were stupid and didn't know what they were talking about. The bride thought the dress was too tight in the torso. She liked the dress a lot, but was worried about not being comfortable in it. The buttons in the back were separating from where they should have been because it was a little too snug in that area. Stephanie did not point this out to the bride. Also, we asked if we could just order in a size up online and she was very rude to us about it. She said that it would need a ton of alterations. Then later she says that it won't even make a big difference anyways because it's only going to be an inch bigger. She was not thinking about the bride's comfort at all and what the bride wanted to do. She did offer to order it online, but like I said she was talking it down a lot. She said that we all needed to sit down and figure out what to do because she needs to order a dress right away, which we know that's why we are on the hunt. However, the bride shouldn't just be made to get a dress if she is not completely satisfied with it. Stephanie just wanted a sale. The bride cried after leaving the store because of how rude she was and her attitude towards her. read more
