Initially, I used My Guy Plumbing to flush my hot water heater. I was pleased with the service and signed a 1 yr contract. included was a free inspection. I had the inspection and the plumber found a leak in my crawl space. They also found 2 other items in need of repair. I agreed to the work. They did a good job and were great to work with. I'm not convinced one of the items really needed the repair. Not long after, I found water accumulating between my hot water heater and my furnace. MGP came out and determined it was the pressure relief valve on my 3 yr old HWH. There wasn't any water in the pan under it. The valve was replaced and a recommendation for an expansion tank was made. I chose not to do the tank at that time. Within a week, i noticed the water accumulating again. I called my HVAC company. They said it was from condensation on the AC line coming in. It did not require any repair and would stop when the humid weather passed. It has. I contacted MGP to complain. The office was very nice and said they would have the owner call me. He did call. I missed the call and called him back. He was driving and didn't have my file and said he would call me back. He has not. I am dissatisfied. I would like a refund for the part replacement that wasn't necessary. The company is responsive and does good work to my untrained eye. I felt the prices were high and that they looked for things to repair each time they came out. This and the owner's lack of response has left a bad impression. Therefore I would not recommend My Guy Plumbing. I will make sure my neighbors and others in my senior community are aware of my experience. read more

As a woman homeowner I felt overwhelmed when I realized flooding in the basement, leaks in my sewer line and water issues throughout my 80+year old home. Be aware before scheduling, ask for an approximate price quote. We scheduled an appointment for our toilet that was leaking inside the tank and the fill valve was constantly filling up. Two technicians arrived, inspected the toilet, then requsted to inspect the main shut off in the crawl space. After going to their truck they returned to my home to have me review the quote to replace the fill valve. The quote was $587. Seriously the part costs under $20. This was a disgrace, after refusing the service still paid the service fee. I kept saying that price might be to replace a toilet, but they stuck to that price. Turned out to be the rubber flapper, cost $5.00 and did it our selves. read more

We called MyGuy Plumbing for a laundry list of things to repair. Matt C arrived with a smile and pink booties and I knew we were in good hands. After showing their license and insurance, explaining pricing transparency and their service plan, we discussed all of my requests in detail and I showed him around. He then worked up several options so I could select what was best for us. Honestly I was so surprised all the work could be done in a day and he had everything needed in his gloriously vibrant truck. So when he said it was done and took me on a tour of my new faucets and now functioning toilet, I'm almost certain all of Toms River heard me I was pretty giddy. Amazing job. I am thrilled. The quality of the service was good, but giving 2 stars is generous considering the very high cost. I paid $430 for a tankless water heater flush. The unit is 6 years old and easily accessed and easily serviced. They were in and out within 30 minutes. Should not have cost over $300. Will not use them in the future. read more

Pro: MyGuy Plumbing was very professional, clean, organized and on time. The work they performed so far has been great, no issues. I would recommend their work to others. Con: I was charged almost $500 to swap out a sink faucet that took about 20 minutes for them to do. They have a book that outlines cost for their service folks, and isn't based on actual job at hand. I'd love to use them again, but I can't afford to bring them back for future jobs at their rates and pricing structure. If the costs are defined, then I wish they had provided a quote over the phone to start showing ballpark figures, with me understanding things could possibly change once they get out there to fully inspect the situation. Similar to another review, I was charged $400+ to swap out a kitchen faucet. Prior to booking the job, I asked for a price quote over the phone to which they said wasn't available (??). The two main determinants, from what I understand after a completed job, is whether I provided my own fixture or purchased theirs ($900+!!). In the end, the swap took two guys 20 minutes. They were professional, but I felt like it was more of a sales pitch - upsell me to their supplied faucet using scare tactics of no warranty on my provided faucet, plus upsell to their service subscription. In the end, I needed the faucet swapped in that moment and didn't have time to book another plumber and wait a week to find a less expensive option. In the end, it's my fault for enabling the business to keep charging these rates and using the tactics. But, I feel strongly that there is a better way to conduct business transparently. Will lead to long term customers instead of one and done. read more

I was given specific violations from NJ Natural gas. They came- and their first idea was to bring gas pipe through the bathroom (?) and rip out the tile wall( and exterior wall) it's a long way from the problem. I didn't mention I had worked for a HVAC company in the past- and knew enough, that that was stupid. He said he would try and think of something else.. and call someone.. he came up with ( I need two shut off valves, a leak fixed in the line going into the gas line and the outside pipe) breaking through the wall behind the range( but they are not dry wallers ) and connecting the pipe. $1,600. Or a less practical answer of separate piping outside to all three appliances $4,000. Hard pass. read more

I have used MyGuy in the past and was pleased with the quality of work that was done. So I called MyGuy again to come and evaluate/repair a leaking shower drain. I was charged a reasonable amount for that service. While there, my wife asked the plumber to look at two of our toilets that we're constantly running. The work was completed and we were charged an exorbitant amount for the repairs. On top of this, I had to repair the toilet when I returned home as the toilet was still not working properly. To say the least I'm not thrilled with your quality of service and questionable business practices. This is how you treat a repeat customer? I will never have call you for service or recommend you to anyone. I also intend to file a complaint with the State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers and the BBB. read more

Had a broken pipe under house in the crawl space, tight area. Had other company come out and gave a price that was crazy. Said it's alot more because it's under the house. I told him to leave but thank you for coming and paid the 50 dollar service fee... didn't even look at pipe. I then called MY GUY and he came next day. Mike was the plumbers name. Very professional and extremely a nice guy. Talked to me like I was family. His price was 1/3 of the first companies price. No hidden charges or up sales. I'm in the home contracting business and this is how I treat my customers also. I was very impressed and will definitely be using My Guy on all my future plumbing jobs. So here is my understanding of the plumber's response: They DID give me three options: install sink in basement, install sink and lavatory, install sink, lavatory and toilet. But you can see that these are just the prices for the three items I needed installed. I do appreciate that they have experienced plumbers that should get the job done efficiently. Myguy was recommended to me by my HVAC guy, and before calling I read reviews on google (why are almost all of the Yelp reviews filtered? They're not all fake, Yelp!) and looked them up on the Better Business Bureau website. Everything checked out and I gave them a call. Was told there was a fee for coming out to do the estimate but that it would be absorbed into the price if I ended up using them. Mike (and apprentice) showed up within 20 minutes of the text that announced they were on the way, so they were on time. They both were wearing 2 masks which I appreciated, and when they entered my crawl space, wore booties. The pricing seemed reasonable and Mike actually ended up saving me some money by pointing out some reasons why I didn't need one of the items I had wanted to install. He also made some great suggestions like a WiFi shut off valve for my main water valve since this is a secondary property I must be vigilant on winterizing it. read more
