If you use positive reinforcement and do not have prior experience training with a bark inhibitor collar, then I strongly recommend you avoid this kennel. We were recommended them as a short-notice opening for Thanksgiving (we were new to dog owning in this area and didn't know the length of time ahead we had to book). At first, they seemed great! The staff were nice and good with our first hand-off of our dog. However, when we went to pick our dog up, one staff mentioned that if our dog needed to stay for TG, they would require that we allow a bark inhibitor collar be placed. We have had 3 trainers and a vet behaviorist all trained in positive reinforcement. We don't train our dog in this style (although I recognize some people do successfully) and we don't want to, as he has made quite significant process with consistent R+. When asked why they needed the collar, the reasons changed, from (1)" I need the collar to handle him" - doesn't make sense if it's an auto bark collar (2)" we want to use it to keep him under threshold and make him happy" and finally to (3) neighbors would file noise complaints & they needed to keep barking to a minimum. Our dog has stayed in 2 other kennels and staff have never noted him to excessively bark or disrupt other dogs (I personally called to ask and specify). We tried to work out a compromise. They said our dog was fine during the day, but at night when they left they couldn't have dogs barking. They came in the morning and "all the dogs were barking". Although I am sure that our dog was also whining/barking like most dogs might, they could not tell me how they knew he had instigated. I wondered why only he needed a bark collar - unless they asked owners to collar all other dogs, which did not appear to be the case. We tried to offer some alternatives such as increasing his agitation meds (it really sedates him, we don't usually do it but this was approved by our vet as an exception). This is where I started to feel very uncomfortable. It would be one thing if this was a "transactional" interaction: they knew they were our last resort as it was clear our styles didn't align, but if not for this kennel then one of us couldn't go home for Thanksgiving; in return we wanted to brainstorm ideas for keeping him quiet at night. If that was the shock collar, then I wanted to know when/how (duration/volume of barking, do they take it off after that or would it remain for the duration of boarding) - our trainers/behaviorist expressed concern that this would set our dog back due to his fear reactivity. We were met with the kind of judgment I have never experienced. They kept saying things like, "We just don't understand why you don't want to do something that works (the collar). We're with pets all day and we know what we're doing". In response to us saying that we could increase our dog's meds, "I just don't understand why you want to change his brain chemistry. We don't understand why you don't want to make him happy." We forgot we once dog-sat a dog with a collar and felt the shock, so we said "no" to the Q of whether we had felt a shock ourselves. To this the staff replied, "you mean you've never even felt a shock and you want to judge??" Finally they said, "We'd love to see whatever materials you are using. Help us help you!" I sent an email with 4 papers and the AVAM Behavior Statement from my trainers and behaviorists. They replied to this, "It appears we're not a good fit. We will cancel your booking for Thanksgiving". After this, I asked the 30 other boarding places I called if a contingent bark collar was standard kennel practice. Every place was incredulous that a kennel would institute such a non-negotiable rule. MyOwnly knew that we were in a sticky situation. I appreciate that they worked with us for a period of time and allowed 2 trial boards, and I also understand that in the end it was not a good fit. However, the low rating is for the fact that I felt incredibly judged for not wanting to incorporate an aversive technique, that they cancelled on us without even considering our offers for alternative de-escalation, and on top of all of this knew that we would not be trying to work with them if we had absolutely no other option. I am very disappointed in this kennel - if you already use a collar then I think you'll be fine. read more

Nervous about boarding your dog? I was. I was so worried about how Sophie would do...so nervous. She's family. She is TBDE (the best dog ever)! She is our special-needs daughter's best pal. Sophie is all that and more. So, to leave her someplace was so scary... WORRY NOT! MYONLY BOARDING KENNEL is now my ONLY boarding place for Sophie! WHAT I LOVE... Sophie seemed to relax the moment she met the people there. I felt okay (and that is saying A LOT) leaving her there. She was happy (not nervous, not scared, not bolting) when we came to pick her up. She had not lost weight or hair while we were gone. She was perfectly happy, how cool is that? Did I mention they bathed and groomed Sophie (a German Sheppard)? "She hasn't ever looked as good as when they groomed her!" Those are my husband's words, and I couldn't agree more! Myownly Boarding Kennel has been absolutely fantastic! Our 93 lb German Shepherd has fear aggression - behavioral issues, so finding a place / someone to watch him while we were out of town was often very a stressfull experince. However, that is NO MORE after having found Myownly. I know that I can leave Zuko, our doggo, with them and have no fears about Zuko or any of the staff getting hurt during his stay. The staff have fantastic experience and care for dogs all over the behavioral spectrum and I am incredibly thankful that they exist! read more

Love this place. First time taking our dog Mac here and you can immediately tell that your Pup is going to be in great hands. They are very nice, personable, professional, and most of all clearly love dogs. They go way above and beyond. I was super impressed with how much detail they want to know to customize your dogs care to ensure the best stay possible. It also made me feel better to know that I could spoil my dog with marrow bones, grooming, etc. while I was away. My dog is going here every time from now on. read more

I have a reactive dog. For over two years this kennel was great, until it wasn't. My dog reacted on a walk, and the handler jerked on the leash. This broke all protecals we set up for my dog. First, the handler was the bather, second the handler didn't know my dogs protocal (I give them a muzzle but they refuse to use it). and thirdly when I picked up my pub I was told he needed new protocals. WRong answers.....as an owner of a reactive dog, I am liable for anything. this handler put my dog and myself in danger by not knowing his behaviors. After five days, the owenr, Andy, a young man, called me to tell me he was sorry to hear what happened with Duke. HOwever, becasue I (the owner) was upset about what happened, I was no longer able to bring my dog to the kennel Duke,who big the handler, was welcome anytime, but Jared, the owner, was not. This place is run my children. I am an elementary school teacher of 25 years and I was told I couldn't come back. If I wasn't leaving the state and moving, I would sue this business and put them out....they have no business dealing with people. In fact, don';t try to contact or call them...it's a pain. They've done everythhing possible to limit contact with people....I used to think it was smart...now I realize they just don't know how to deal with people......Andy, the owner, is a big wimp. He's yelled at me because he doesn't like what I say.....now he's feels strong by telling me I can't come there....what bullshit! Childrend. I was a customer here for grooming only the past couple of years. There was a female there who always groomed my dog and I never had any problems. I went in today but was booked with someone else this time. The man said he was the new owner and he was going to groom my dog. He asked me to sign a contract allowing them to charge my card in case they had any injuries with my dog which was a big red flag to me. Then, when we talked about the grooming, the man said he might not be able to cut my dogs hair at 1 inch like I've always done and he might shave him if he has mattes and that would be $100 an hour. Red flag #2. Then I told him I wanted my dogs face rounded instead of of the handlebar mustache kind of cut and again he told me he couldn't make any promises. That was red flag #3. His tone was very controlling and rude. I was in the middle of filling out the "contract" and I told them I had changed my mind. I tore up the contract because it had my personal information on it and asked for my dog back. He told me to give him the torn up contract because it was his property and he would not give me my dog back until I did. I scratched out my personal information and got my dog back and left. Their practices are shady and he wasn't even sure he could cut my dogs' hair the way it's always been cut. I was there just a few months earlier and didn't have any of these problems. He and his front desk office staff were rude, laughed at me when I chose not to leave my dog and even threatened not to give me my dog back over a piece of paper that they were going to throw away since it was already torn up. I will never go back here again and I highly recommend you find another place to groom or board. read more

Our dog, Cady, is a rescue from an auto body shop in New Jersey. She's the Rizzo to my Sandy. If she were our human daughter, we'd probably have to have an intervention on Dr. Phil. She'd be a delinquent and she'd cut you. Since our first kennel experience didn't work out so well (http://www.yelp.com/biz/lOn-qtrVvFgZxTb72RTGPQ), we searched frantically for a better option for our week-long October trip. A neighbor's dog walker said she took her dogs to Myownly Kennel in Monroe so off we went for our pre-meeting. Now Monroe is 70 minutes from our house so that will give you an idea of how desperate we were. We like our vacations. If it were up to Chris, Cady would join us on every one but sometimes you have to take an airplane and follow other folks' No Pets policy. Our initial meeting was successful, complete with adorable dachsund puppies. These are true dog people who've set up a wonderful facility in the middle of Monroe horse country. Cady was a little reluctant when we dropped her off for her first stay but Holly was so wonderful that it all went smoothly. We called in from vacation to hear that Cady had been shy at first (all an act, trust me) but had soon come out of her shell and all was well. What a relief! When we went to pick her up, Holly was very pleased with how it had gone and said Cady was welcome any time. That is music to a dog parent's ears! We went outside to await the release of our crazy canine, but what did we see? Instead of the whirling dervish we used to receive from our kennel in New York, here comes Cady trotting down the center aisle, taking one last demure peek at her kennel mates, sweetly acknowledging us wearing a Halloween bandana tied around her neck. She came out and immediately sat down. I think our jaws were on the floor. Okay, that lasted for 1.5 seconds and then she started running around with her usual enthusiasm. When we got home, she jumped on the bed and sacked out for the night. Excellent. For the deluxe stay (2 walks and playtime), Myownly charges $31/night which is exactly what we used to pay in NY. Nice thing here is that provide their own beds and toys so we don't have to haul everything back and forth. Pick up time on Sunday is 4 pm....that's pretty much the window, 4 pm, so that's not exactly convenient but we made it work. At least we knew our dog was in good hands. read more

We have been using Myownly for about a year. We found Myownly when we had a unplanned trip come up and the two kennels we had been using in the Woodenville/Bothell area were full. What a great find! Being a smaller kennel, Myownly provides what I believe to be a more attentive approach to taking care of our dogs. The past three times we have used Myownly, they have come back less stressed than their stays at other kennels. I always feel like the staff listens to all of my requests/comments when checking the dogs in, and they give great feedback on how they did when we pick up the dogs. Monroe is a bit out of the way for us, but we believe that the care provided is worth the extra drive. read more

We have left our two little doxies at MyOwnly twice now. One of them tends to be extremely nervous and can be a little aggressive, but everyone here has always been helpful and friendly. Some kennels can get a little snippy about keeping a dog who is a little unpredictable, but not here. The lady who owns the kennel (excuse me for not remembering her name!) is very knowledgeable about different breeds of dogs and their typical traits and peculiarities. I also agree with another reviewer who said that she seems to really care about your dog(s) and remembers them, which is wonderful to me. I love my dogs very much and they have come home twice now safe and sound! I feel like they receive excellent care. I am always given a thorough run-down of what they did (even going potty!), how and what they ate, etc. One of our dogs would not eat one of his meals this time around (of course, the nervous one!), so they gave him a little cheese and of course, he could not pass that up! I feel like they go out of their way to make your animal happy. When the dogs walked out when we were picking them up today, one of them even went walking back into the kennel area (guess he wanted to stay!) and my husband had to chase him, so he obviously did not mind being there! We took our 9 pound Chihuahua/Dachshund cross, Lady to Myownly Boarding Kennel for a one night sleepover yesterday. We were having a large gathering at our house and felt she would be safer if she wasn't under foot. It was a great experience all around. The staff is very friendly and genuinely caring about the animals. Lady was well cared for, enjoyed her walks and was spoiled. I have been taking all five of my rescue dogs here for 15 years. My dogs all have unique backgrounds and unique issues due to serious trauma prior to when I adopted them. Andy and the staff here are phenomenal. They go above and beyond for us every time. I have very serious health issues and am often hospitalized. Knowing the dogs are happy, well taken care and can stay as long as necessary given I often don't know how long will be in the hospital, is a huge source of relief and comfort for me. I miss the dogs but know I never have to worry about them on top of everything else. The dogs love going to the kennel and in fact, the staff has helped several of them make great progress in terms of being comfortable with strangers, especially men. My Ownly Boarding Kennel Monroe, WA In a word, WOW! (Along with caring, understanding & knowledgeable) (I'll start with two points: we live right near SeaTac airport and I don't care for driving. Yet, I still chose to drive the 40+ miles to Cathi's kennel anyway.) McLovin - History and Challenges My wife and I have three American Pitbull mixed dogs. Our latest addition, McLovin, came to use from a rescue in Valhalla Animal Rescue in Graham, WA. McLovin was one of 50+ dogs who were rescued from a hoarder situation in Pierce County, WA. And, he was one of the very last to find a permanent home. While he had no issues with aggression during his 8 months in the rescue (where he ran freely with a pack), he - quickly - had an issue with the male APBT in our house. In reality, the existing male had an issue with McLovin. After seeing a short but intense fight between the two, (which we later found out is common for dogs, but we hadn't seen before) we decided the best thing for when we travel is to have McLovin boarded at a kennel. And, because we don't know his history, we wanted him at a place where he didn't have free run with other dogs. Just a warm, comfortable, safe and loving place where we knew we'd find him in the same condition as when we left him. Drop Off/Expectations My wife searched the internet for days for kennels that boarded large breeds and kept them separated at all times, while still providing personal attention/care and exercise. She finally found Cathi's kennel and it seemed like a perfect match. Cathi was very thorough during the intake/drop off. And, she made clear that her role was to feed, exercise and love McLovin, not let him roam around. I think she, "To make sure he's comfortable and cared for until you return. That's it." And, that's exactly what we wanted. Pick Up/Findings I went to pick McLovin up and found only one negative... he seemed to like Cathi and her staff more than me! While we were concerned about abandonment issues considering he'd been locked in a trailer the first few years of his life and obviously abused, he didn't feel the least bit neglected. Rather, he found new family. Little Extras The best thing one can say about a business is that it treats its customers like family. Well, Cathi and her team treated McLovin, and us, like family. It was awesome. And, we had a few more surprises... First, McLovin's nails were trimmed, complimentarily. Second, McLovin received a very creative and thoughtful, doggy 'report card'. Third, and best and most touching of all, Cathi had taken MANY professional quality photos of McLovin with a professional camera and background to boot. And she emailed us a number of these pictures, FOR FREE! This was flat out fantastic! I recently had to board my two dobermans for 2 weeks. I had no idea where to take them. Myownly proved to be an excellent choice! The two are rescued dobes and inseparable. The kennel worked with my to ensure they had a space to share to ease any anxiety/separation issues. While away, I received two emails on their status, including photos, and a call prior to my return. The staff is professional, knowledgeable, courteous and caring. Myownly remains awesome. We got another dog about a year ago, and have had both dogs at Myownly a few more times. They do an amazing job with our sometimes difficult to manage herding dog, and also with our new mutt. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place, but I don't want them to get so full that I can't get my pooches in there. They are actually quite large however, and *so far* I haven't had difficulty if I give a bit of advance notice. We love Cathi and the team at Myownly! read more

Unfortunately, this Christmas was a totally different story. As much as I hate giving bad reviews, I can't pretend my experience didn't happen. I stopped in to pick up Cosmo after the holiday. I paid my bill and when Cosmo was brought out from the back, I noticed he was wet with some discoloration on his fur. I thought, maybe he just got in from outside and he's known to get grass stain from vigorous play. When I got him outside and into my vehicle, I could see plainly that the discoloration was urine. He smelled terrible and was obviously laying in a sizable amount of urine (it was far up his body). When I brought it to Danielle's attention, her response was "well, he was groomed yesterday and that included a bath". The correct response would have been "please bring him back in so we can get him cleaned up for you". The fact that they wouldn't even think twice about delivering an animal in that condition is beyond me. She didn't even think to discount the charge of the grooming for my inconvenience. Later in the day, Cathi tried to make it up to me with a heartfelt apology and partial refund in an email. I'll be honest, where the email and partial refund were a nice gesture, I can't help but wonder what condition the kennel is in behind the scenes. I've left Cosmo alone in my apartment for over 18 hours (due to an emergency room visit) and even after that long without being taken out, he didn't have an accident. For him to urinate in his kennel and be able to lay in it, something terrible must have gone on. I'm not sure if he was scared, neglected or what, but I've never seen him in such a state. I'll never leave him here again and I'd caution anyone else who cares about their animal from making the same mistake I did. read more

When my parents picked me up from my vacation at Myownly Boarding Kennel today I couldn't give enough kisses-- To them AND to my new human friend, Morgan, who took such good care of me while I was there! I'm only 3, but already on my third family after my older brother started attacking me, so I was a little nervous to see my parents go. But, as soon as I met Cathi and Morgan and was shown to my room, I hardly knew they were gone! My sleeping cot was very comfy and I had heated floors to lounge on too! All of my neighbors were very friendly and the Myownly staff came to visit often. There was good conversation--barking and the human kind--and we even got to enjoy music during the day! They served me yummy meals, kept my room clean and tidy, and even washed my blanket when I toweled off with it after a romp in the field and my play time with the pet nanny! They took me to the restrooms regularly, which were separate from my playing area and always freshly picked up and hosed down. I felt so loved by all the staff and even got some bonus cuddle time with a brush and massage! When my parents picked me up, I got lots of praise for being so sweet, loving, and agreeable but that was easy because I was just so happy to be here! Have boarded our dogs here for years. Myownly Boarding Kennel is helpful, caring, knowledgeable and organized. Our dogs have always come home healthy and happy and well groomed.
