Megabus - Megabus bus stop in Philly between walnut and chestnut streets along Schuylkill

    Megabus

    Powelton Village, University City

I guess you get what you pay for…read more This bus stop is located a few blocks (about a 5-10 minute walk) from Philly's 30th Street Station. The system for waiting is a bit unorganized. I did not see a lot of signage, so you just hope that you are in the right line for your bus' destination. It's kind of like the blind leading the blind until the bus arrives. A couple of annoying aspects of the bus stop. 1. The lines are not managed. Although I was one of the first people to arrive for my bus (about 30-40 minute prior to departing), I ended up being one of the last people to get on the bus. Why? Once the bus arrives, people throw queueing etitiuqe out the window and will make a mad dash to the bus. It would be nice if Megabus could have an employee manage the line, but I guess that might cut into Megabus' profits. Also, I do not think many folks would be willing to stand outside for several hours managing folks in a line...something GROWNUPS should be able to handle on their own. 2. Since you are waiting on a sidewalk, the waiting area is uncovered, so you will be exposed to the elements. Fortunately for my fellow passengers and me, it started raining 15 or so minutes after we pulled off. #phew.

Have charging stations everywhere! Even by your bed AND in your locker!!! Have Rocky movie poster on every floor indicating which floor you are on. Rocky(1st floor), Rocky 2(2nd floor), Rocky III( 3rd floor), Rocky IV(4th floor). They have pool table, piano, board game for your entertainment. Tons of restaurants within walking distance. You do need your keycard to get into the hostel AND to the stairs to your room. They have vending/soda machine by the kitchen Cons: NO Elevator!!! Sometimes it's hard to walk all the way up to the top floor. You might missed this street if you were wondering around on Market st, if you walk past 2nd or 3rd st, you go too far because this Bank st is between those 2 streets. I almost got lost a few times. The water pressure in the shower was a bit weak, not strong at all, but they are pretty warm so that's good. I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone who are staying in town for a few nights.

If being specific, the day after I checked in I noted that someone went through my medications I left in the fridge and rebagged them. On the one hand this is quite rude and made me feel violated. On the other hand they simply have people hunched over-passed out-doing drugs across from the doorway and so I shrugged it off as I assumed they were having trouble with this. A couple of the ladies were especailly kind. Stephanie I believer her name is took the group on a rather fun ghost tour which when compared with the tour I spend $25 on later was better. Another lady working checked out their umbrella and I didn't have to like 'ah leave ID or anything. That was cool. But then some of the staff are just deal breakers. On my last night I bought a Philadelphia Cheesesteak and wanted to eat in the lounge while either deciding to extend the weekend or treck back eariler to New York. Dude in a trucker hat with long hair said to clear out and then waited and watched me pack up my stuff from the fridge. So kinda ruined my hoagie, I was like 70-30 on staying the weekend, that put a bad taste in my mouth but ah, now I'm having that hoggie. I would stay at the other hostel as I heard through the grapevine they do more social activies and it's online a bit cheaper. I haven't seen it but imagine safer for familes and groups. Alright.

Ideal for privacy but a shared space. Location is superb. Walking distance of everything in downtown Philadelphia, old town, and all the historical areas. Rittenhouse Square is a large urban park surrounded by upper scale restaurants, coffee shops and all the usual urban amenities. Hotel doors open just across the street from the park. The Hotel staff were extremely friendly and always helpful. The Hotel is more boutique feeling with a bar to your right as you enter and a swanky restuarant to the left. The room had a small kitchen, large common area and two very nice bedrooms both with their own bathroom. I do recommend.

B It's the a.k.a. residence that has a little bit of a pretentious attitude about them. They have a 30 day policy to sign a lease if you say for more than 29 days. I stay there for two days. Then two weeks later I tried to stay there for one day and they wanted me to fill out a credit check and background check even though I paid upfront. I had to get them to refund my money immediately. I was so upset with Brittany that I had to hang up the phone on her. She told me that if I don't fill out the application, I can't stay there for the night. I was so disappointed & I felt like I was being discriminated against for some reason or another. The ambience is amazing. The room are stellar. I just don't care for Brittany.

A newcorollary is I'd skip a 2.5 star pizza place but would be fine with most 2.5 star hotels. Wyndham is getting hit by the Urban Parking Penalty. This isn't the place for me to discuss the obnoxious elements of car culture or even its occasionally-annoying opponents. I don't have a car but when I did I never expected cheap parking in any major city. More esoterically, Wyndham's rating is getting dinged by one-time events that are statistically unlikely to afflict your trip. And the ratings are balanced out by the swooning that might follow a glamorous Omni or a buzzy mid-market location like Tru by Hilton. The room was large and clean. The workers were friendly. There's no rooftop pool or Conga Line Tuesdays. The TV doesn't have 800 channels and to my knowledge wasn't "smart." Geography note: Old City is pleasant. It's not far from the 5th St. subway stop; during off-peak hours I'd prefer to walk up 4th or even use the 2nd St. stop. This is less than a mile than the most important tourist attraction in America, the Reading Terminal Market.

Upon entering the doors, there is nothing and no one, but a set of small elevators. The elevators take you to the actual lobby. To check-in, the representative took me over to a kiosk. It took about two minutes to enter my info, pay, and get my keycard. The lobby has a coffee/espresso machine, sofas, and chairs and tables. My room was on the 6th floor. It was a tiny room with a queen sized bed, desk, mini fridge, and chair. There is not a lot of walking space. The bed was pretty comfortable. The mini fridge seemed to have a cool temp in 2-hour increments. The bathroom was also tiny with a small counter space and a 2x3' standing shower. The shower pressure was better than a lot of other hotels. They provide shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, and body lotion, but no hair dryer. The hotel is located near Rittenhouse Square and in a pretty convenient location. I was able to walk to Reading Terminal Market, Chinatown, Mutter Museum, Liberty bell, among other places. If you have the late night munchies, there is an Asian Food Hall 2 minutes away that closes at 2am.
