When I went to file a rodent damage claim, was told the storage policy does not cover pest damage! Also, lights go out after 17 min and you have to go back down the corridor to turn them on if you need more time. Why no motion sensors? Elevator down button broken for at least three weeks and counting. Office often closed during regular hours. Prices go up substantially every six months. Bait and switch with initial pricing. Do not store your items here! I stored some furniture and several boxes of clothes and home items for 2.5 months. When I came to get my stuff, I found that my boxes were damaged by rodents, and there were numerous rodent droppings in my storage unit. They chewed through the boxes and my items, and they left droppings everywhere. I had to throw away a lot of my items and throughly inspect and clean my remaining items, which was a monumental chore. When I contacted CubeSmart, they offered no resolution. They said that I would have to go through my insurance to get compensation even though insurance does not cover pest damage, and they refused to refund my rent. CubeSmart: 501 Callowhill, Philadelphia PA: DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY. We rented a 10x10 unit in March '22 in a temporature-controlled gated area. We usually come once or twice a month to bring new items or retrieve other items. Yesterday when we arrived, the motorized loading gate was broken and was wide open, though I did not see any car backed in and using it (wonder how long that had been broken and open). Also, we noticed that one of the doors that should close automatically behind a guest doesn't quite catch and is often left ajar if you don't manually close it (wonder how long that had been not operating properly). So, On Sunday 2/25 when we got into our area, we noticed a pair of our slippers sitting outside of the garage gate to our unit. The lock appeared to still be on the garage door; howevever, when we touched it the entire locking apparatus fell to the floor. We lifted the gate and discovered that we had been robbed! Someone had entered the secure location, climbed on top of the storage units, looked down through the chicken wire (I guess they liked what they saw in ours), cut through the wire on the top, looked through all of our things and ransacked our possessions, unscrewed the locking apparatus from inside the unit, exited through the garage door, jerry-rigged the lock to LOOK like it was intact and walked out with large, expensive and some irreplaceable items. To add insult the injury, there was a single staff person on site (there is usually just one person and the only security is doors/gates that require a code). We immediately notified the staff person who was only able to take pictures and give us a brochure to call for insurance. There was no offer for a free temporary space to house our items until a secure location could be found....not even an offer for free boxes to box the items that had been removed from luggage (that was stolen) and strewn about. We filed a police report, and we will definitely file a claim...which won't cover all that we have lost like personal papers, priceless jewelry, etc. We will also notify the BBB and every outlet that we can find to help others from making the same mistake that we did by using this facility. Just now leaving there in Uber where I had to wait outside 8/10 mins in 25 F degree weather because manager was cozy inside but on break so she would not let me wait inside. If you want your unit broken into, and your items stolen and destroyed, this is the place for you! Oh how I wish I had NEVER rented a unit here. I had two units. One day I received a call that one of mine had been broken into, along with many others. They said it could have been a former customer. The person from CubeSmart who called me was not apologetic or helpful at all. Quite the opposite. They said I needed to go over there, make a police report and replace the lock myself. I said I couldn't do that, since I was in another state several hours away. I had to demand that they go into my unit, take a photo and replace the lock, which of course they charged me for despite the break-in being 100% their fault. I had movers move my stuff out of there. They discovered that a desk that was a family heirloom had a broken leg, since the thief likely climbed on that desk to help him get from my unit into someone else's. I also have other missing items, including a flat-screen television and collectibles. Furthermore, I gave the movers the combination to the lock on my other unit. When they arrived, the combination lock was gone and in its place was a lock with a key. The key was at the front desk. How did this happen? Did someone break into that unit too? I'll never know. There are a lot of suspicious things happening at this location. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. read more

Leonard was there to assist me and what a pleasure he is to deal with. Very friendly, helpful and re-assuring! After speaking with him, I left the facility feeling maybe last month's bad experience was just a one-off. Just to be clear, Leonard was not working the day of my bad experience. The quickest way to judge a storage facility is to count the branded vans in its parking lot. See colorful VitaminWater, Patron and PopChips vehicles? You've probably found a good one. People in the marketing/promo business store their stuff in these type of DIY facilities and visit them way more often than the average consumer who moves a bunch of old furniture in there and only looks at it once a year. Owners of small stores and Ebay businesses are obviously in evidence, as well. All for good reason. This facility is located in a safe, heavily trafficked location on Callowhill St., and your storage space includes access to the totally fenced parking lot for the duration of your rummage. The storage floors are allegedly climate controlled, but in the depths of this summer's heatwaves, there was no way for that thing to keep up. Sometimes it's hotter than Hades in here, sometimes it's cool and a whole Roy Orbison album is playing over the PA system. Sometimes you can find a person working in the office, sometimes it is inexplicably locked from both sides during normal business hours. All in all, it's not the cheapest, but also not the worst, place to stash your junk. A-OK. read more

Even though I disagree with the letter "U" in place of "You" in their business name, I can appreciate the fact that they offer easy online payments, a personal access code for entry, and a giant dumpster for boxes. I come here all the time to pick up Yelp schwag and I've never had a problem. I do believe there are humans who work there, but I only saw them when I initially signed up. Otherwise, it's a do it yourself kinda place. Loading dock, clean facilities and plenty of carts to lug your stuff up and down the elevator. Highly recommended over the UHaul facility in South Philly - which is where I first considered storing stuff. read more

Well, it's a little scary when the light timer runs out and you get stuck in the dark, but other than that, not too bad. The rental fee for a very small closet is edging ever closer to $100 per month, but I have to say, I'm happy to have a place that isn't my own apartment to store all my schwag. We have a 10' x 15' unit on the 5th floor and, after going to the unit on Tuesday, June 21 at 7PM, the elevator (#2) malfunctioned and with large noises and major thunks, it stopped with us in it and we were trapped between the 5th and 4th floor. We used the emergency button and the call center was helpful but hampered by management protocol and they were unable to secure a rescue soon enough for us. After 15 minutes without a resolution coming from Cube Smart we called 911 - very fortunately our cell phones worked. The 4th & Arch Rescue team showed up - 12 firemen and at least 2 fire trucks and they got us out of the elevator car - we had been trapped for 45 long minutes and the rescue was very stressful. Cube Smart didn't contact us at all. When we called and then emailed them for an understanding about the safety of the elevator and an apology they did respond - with no information and a "hope you have a good day!" email. We're extremely unhappy and have no confidence in the safety of the building and elevators. read more

To have this much real estate so close to center city at these reasonable prices is a blessing. So what if the lights go off? Walk to the switch and turn it back on. It's an energy saving feature! We had a load of 10 heavy cartons of books to be picked up by our freight carrier. The cartons were too heavy for us to lift. Jesse one of the Cube Smart staff came to the rescue. He put all the cartons on the delivery palette for us. He did the required shrink wrapping as well. We were absolutely stunned by his great attitude and competence. We didn't even ask him to help because we thought the driver of the moving company would do the task. He graciously refused a gratuity and said it was company policy not to accept tips. We were not happy with the place at all. They had a lot of hidden fees that they didn't tell you about. A security fee is required even though the facility is supposed to be safe - how does that make sense? Also, it was supposed to be temperature controlled but the room has an open ceiling anyway with some wires or something running across the top. He never told us how to "control" the temperature in the room. Also, we had to buy a lock. So I rented a 5x5x8 room (pretty much the smallest unit possible) that was temperature controlled, and even with 10% off plus half off first month I was told in the e-mail I would only have to pay $65.20 at move-in. When we actually moved in, all the hidden fees ended up making $100 due at move-in. - which by the way they didn't tell you until you were signing the paperwork. It was just ridiculous. This place is a rip-off. read more

I just wanted to make it clear that this is a review of the local site, not the national organization. Good points: Clean. As far as I could tell, no homeless people living in the units, which is unfortunatley more common than you think. In a relatively safe part of town. Bad points: TOO EXPENSIVE (don't be fooled by the price guarantee). I was irritated at myself for not planning earlier and finding some place cheaper. On moving in my access code failed to work (even though I'd checked it at lease signing) and there was no one at the desk so I had to wait for someone to return. The person behind me's access code also failed to work so it wasn't just me--it's lucky that it didn't happen after hours or we'd really have been screwed The lease says if you already have renter's/homeowner's insurance you do not need to pay their extra insurance, but I was told to bring proof later to get the charge taken off. A clear ploy to get people to give up and accept the extra fee, so I was determined not to be tricked and arranged the extra paperwork. But when I was ready to give said proof then I was told that was never the arrangement? In a less than polite tone too? Sketchy. The kind of BS not worth puttting up with when you pay so much. read more

I have had a unit there for over 2 years and have suffered through two vehicle break-ins (broken windows and theft), as well as a complete looting of my storage unit. I had a great experience booking a storage unit and moving my stuff in. The morning of my move-in, I thought my stuff wouldn't fit into the size I had reserved, so I called and asked to switch sizes. Tina said they would be happy to switch me but recommended that I take a look at the unit after arriving - and she was right, all my stuff easily fit. I appreciated that she didn't just encourage me to take the bigger unit, which would have cost a lot more. The place looks clean and well-maintained. It's easy to come and go as you please since they give you a unique access code. There are also flat bed carts to make loading your stuff easier. I saw lots of vendors using it it for their delivery men to pick up products (e.g., Vitamin Water, Old Dominion Distributors, KIND bars), which I think is a good sign that the place is reliable and clean. read more

Shortly thereafter, the manager of the location called to answer any questions I had and was very accommodating about holding the reservation until a time that was convenient for met to come in.
