Every time I go in, I am greeted in such a friendly way by Andy and get excellent customer service. He remembers everything from previous visits, and I have no complaints about the staff & service. The online experience requires some extra hoops to jump through in order to log in, but I am fine with that. Being patient is a good exchange for the extra degree of safety that's being provided. Without instant access I know that my account is safe, especially in this day and age, so the extra steps to log in are okay with me. The biggest thing is that numerous times was hit with overdrawn fees, multiple times, adding up to a lot of money, which they kindly replaced. Been here on a few occasions when I need quick access to funds. It's close to my home and the ATM is well lit. I feel safe coming here after hours and will probably return for the convenience. What is great is that they do not charge fees for using their services as long as you are a credit union customer. I'm thankful that I no longer have to drive a few miles to get to NFCU! Point Loma CU is the only CU in this area and it is a member of "co-op network" - which means their ATM saves me tons of money on frivolous charges like withdrawing my own money. Grossly mismanaged credit union. Customer service is terrible. They will hold payroll checks for days unless you make a personal call to get it released. This continues even if you get the same check for years with no issues. If you use the online messaging system their stock answer is to have you call in, which means you have to take time out of your busy day to make a phone call, go through a gauntlet of security IDs, then you have to explain your simple request three times before they understand. Presumably these are college graduates, so why they can't listen is a disgrace. They emailed me a form and there was nothing attached to the email. Why they're using a third party (Adobe) to have you sign forms is a massive security breech as clearly Adobe is getting personally identifying information for marketing purposes. Their security is so tight they blacklist third party ATMs so you can't get at your own money. High APR on their credit card (Bank of America's is half their rate!) Generally, I recommend credit unions over banks, but stay away from this one. read more

I've had problem after problem with this bank. Latest example, deposited $200.00 CASH, not a check, into the ATM (located at the branch by the way). This was done on the 15th to cover a bill that would automatically come out on the 19th. Well there still holding my cash on the 20th, 5 days later, so they covered the bill and charged me 31.00 "courtesy pay fee", while their holding my money that covers the bill. It's always blamed on a "third party processor". Am I the only one who thinks this is unacceptable. The tellers are fine, this isn't about them. But anyone who you talk to on the phone knows they will never have to see you face to face, and that's exactly how I've always been treated. I switched here from B of A because everyone knows how awful they are, but frankly this credit union is just as bad or worse. read more

I have banked with (PLCU then) MyPoint since 1986. In these many years I have noticed customer service/tellers service has gone down considerably. The tellers in the bank could care less and online I get scripted replies to messages. I HATE the new look of their new website, it is not user friendly at all. Half the time I struggle to even login, like today for instance! Since I'm in deep with many accounts there I most likely won't change but hope any new clients with take a second look before becoming a member. Sad. read more

Very disappointed with this bank. I got a car loan from them in 2011, and I almost paid it off. I have been making double payments every month just to pay off the loan quicker and earn a good relationship with this bank. But when recently I came to them for personal loan, they just turned me away and ignored the fact that I have been loyal customer and never missed a payment even by a day. Moreover, it is not like, I don't have job; I have two of them one full-time and one part-time. Additionally, I have a successful business that I started 8 months ago. I did not expect this kind treatment. I just cannot explain how disappointed I am. In couple of months I paying off the loan and never coming back to this bank. So if you are thinking that once you start relationship with this bank and maintain it, they will count it and help you out in the future then go somewhere else. read more

Beyond Disappointed. Wished I would have read the reviews before doing business with PLCU. I attempted to set up a children's savings account, and an account for our nanny. We began this process at 10:30 am and it is now 2:30 pm, and three trips later without success. Who has this kind of time? The bank was busy and John, one of the employees, took all of the identifying documents, and suggested we come back later and everything would be ready. He also asked my husband to stop in and sign for the minor account. I thought this was great. We could run some errands, return, and be out the door. That was not the case. When my husband came in, John "went to lunch and no one else could help him. When I came back, nothing was done to prepare either account. It took an additional 40 minutes just to open a simple savings and checking account for the nanny. Unless we made a 4th trip, for my husband's signature, we would not be able to open the account. I told John we didn't need to do business with someone that has such poor customer service. I decided that it was not in our best interest to have my son bank at PLCU, and will be closing our other accounts there as well. I'm sure there are other establishments that offer much better customer service. read more

I was against a tight loan approval deadline and John took me without an appointment and managed to get my loan done the same day in parallel with back to back appointments on his calendar. The whole experience was customer focused every step of the way. David followed up by making sure that the check was received by the dealership and kept me informed every step of the day. It is so hard for me to understand how a community credit union can provide such poor customer service. It has taken me a while to accept the fact the I need to close my accounts and move on. I started banking here over 20 years ago and due to the longevity of the relationship I kept hoping it would improve. Other PLCU branches are not bad but this one in Rancho Bernardo is intolerable. Years ago the managers were friendly and over time even remembered your name. A new manager was assigned to this branch a year or so ago. Well that is the point all niceties vanished. He is rude, condescending, and treats customers and if they are an inconvenience. I expect his poor treatment of customers is only a part of the problem. Each time you go there there are new employees. The previous ones had been there for ages. Maybe a question should be asked... Why don't these employees want to stick around? I was fortunate to have had excellent relationships with the prior managers which made banking a breeze. No longer. Sad actually. After all, a credit union sets itself apart from the big banks with the down home service. All that is lost here. Even when bringing this up at the branch myself, this manager was visibility annoyed and it was obvious he didn't care nor should any changes be expected. I am done. Moving to Wells Fargo. Do not get a house loan here. No one who bought a house from point Lima credit union qualifies for any government programs that might help someone save their home. They rather foreclose on a house than help them keep it. My interest is 6.25 percent. Current rates are around 4. Since I owe more than what my condo is worth, they will not let me refinance. Re-fi could help me save my condo. They tell me I am too big of risk to re-fi. Does that make sense? So, all other banks participate in government programs except credit unions. Stay away from them. read more
